Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has reviewed the curfew imposed on troubled communities in the Lamurde and Guyuk local government areas.
Following a deadly clash over land ownership and use, curfews were imposed on Waja and Lunguda-speaking communities in the two LGAs.
“It is exactly one month today that I directed the imposition of curfew on Lafiya and Boshikiri, as well as the surrounding villages of Mumseri, Mere, Kupte, and Zakawon, following the unfortunate breach of peace despite repeated attempts to broker peace in those Communities,” Fintiri said in a statement released to the media on Friday by his Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou.
“The curfew, which was in effect from 5 p.m. to 6 a.m., has now been relaxed to begin from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily, and the review is effective immediately,” the governor said in a statement.
“The development is a result of the relative peace that has returned to the areas,” Fintiri added.
He urged security agents to continue performing their duties and urged residents to work with them “to maintain Adamawa State’s status as one of the most peaceful, especially during the Sallah break.”
On June 8, 2022, the government imposed a curfew on the two LGAs in an attempt to facilitate a return to peace following the bloody clash that claimed four lives.
