Sowore’s Reckless Attacks on Christian Leaders Must Stop – CCYF

The Concerned Christian Youth Forum (CCYF) has called on the Nigerian government to take urgent action against Omoyele Sowore over his recent derogatory remarks about Christian leaders.

The forum warned that his reckless and inflammatory statements could incite religious tensions and pose a threat to national peace and stability.

Describing Sowore’s comments as baseless, offensive, and deeply disrespectful, CCYF emphasized that respected pastors and bishops, who have made significant contributions to society, should not be subjected to unwarranted attacks.

CCYF, in a statement signed by its Convener, Adama Paul James, emphasized that labeling respected Fathers of Faith as failures, uneducated, or jobless is not only false but also a deliberate attempt to demean the contributions of these esteemed spiritual and intellectual figures.

    The statement reads below:

“We, the Concerned Christian Youth Forum, have recently learned of the disrespectful and abusive comments made by Omoyele Sowore against Christian Leaders in general. This behavior is completely unacceptable

“To label our Fathers of Faith and Pastors as failures, uneducated, or jobless is preposterous, egregiously disrespectful, and therefore, unacceptable. The time has come to put an end to Sowore’s incessant attacks on the Christian Faith and her reputable leaders.

“It is a shame that he, Sowore has chosen to denigrate the accomplishments and contributions of some of the most revered Fathers of our Faith and Pastors in our country, each of whom has achieved remarkable success in their respective fields.
Bishop Francis Wale Oke, Pastor E.A Adeboye, Bishop David Oyedepo, Pastor W.F Kumuyi, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, Pastor D.K Olukoya, Pastor David Ibiyeomie, Dr Pastor Paul Enenche, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, Pastor Paul Adefarasin, Apostle Johnson Suleman, Pastor Poju Oyemade, Apostle Joshua Selman, and Pastor Jerry Eze, Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo, Pastor Godman Akinlabi, Pastor Emmanuel Iren, Pastor Korede Komaiya and many others that space will fail me to mention, all possess impressive academic achievements, not to talk of their years of service and devotion to their calling.

“Sowore should reflect on the fact that these individuals are not only spiritual leaders but also intellectual heavy weights who have earned the respect and admiration of millions of people around the world. Academically, Sowore is a dwarf where most of these men are standing. How can a sane man refer to a First Class graduate of mathematics or a professor of mathematics as uneducated?
“It is apparent that Sowore’s insults are not grounded in reality but rather in ignorance and hate. His insults are further confirmations that he is an uncouth, uncultured and unlearned man who is desperately seeking attention and relevance.
We urge him to rethink his approach and refrain from further attacks against Christianity and her leaders. The Concerned Christian Youth Forum will not stand idly by and watch our Faith and leaders disrespected and maligned by Sowore.

“This is to serve a strong note of warning to Omoyele Sowore and his ilk that any further attacks on Christianity or Christian leaders will be met with a stronger response. Sowore should be mindful of the fact that his miguided words and actions have far-reaching consequences, even capable of causing a breakdown of law and order. He should be held accountable for his reckless, rascally and ignoble role in inciting social and religious disturbance in a volatile society such as ours.

“We, the Concerned Christian Youth Forum, stand in solidarity with our Christian Leaders and our Faith. We will not tolerate any further attacks against them, and we will continue to defend their honor and integrity. We wish to draw the attention of the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the potential danger of Sowore’s rascality especially as it borders on religious sensitivity and the implications for national peace and security.”

  • CSO Writes AGF, Seeks Probe Of DPPF Over “Frivolus” Charges Against Businessman, Lawyer

CSO Writes AGF, Seeks Probe Of DPPF Over “Frivolus” Charges Against Businessman, Lawyer

A civil society group, Federation for Truth and Justice has called on the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, to investigate the activities of the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation, DPPF, Mohammed Abubakar Babadoko.

The group, in a letter dated February 25, 2025 is asking the AGF to use his office to probe the relationship between the DPPF and one Asabe Waziri, a staff of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL

According to the letter, signed by the leader of the group, Comrade Henry Owolabi, the activities of the DPPF regarding the case of a businessman, Cecil Osakwe and his Counsel, Mr Victor Giwa calls for probe.

He said in the letter, “Our attention has been brought to many alleged illegal, and suspicious activities been perpetrated by the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Mohamned Abubakar in the Ministry of Justice.

“It has come to our attention that Mr Abubakar, whom hereafter we shall refer to him as DPP is believed to be abusing his office by using his office to intimidate, persecute and threaten perceived opponents of his cronies, in this case one, Asabe Waziri, a staff of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCLTD).

“Sir, the DPP has with a clear intention to intimidate Asabe Waziri ‘s opponents, framed and filed two charge sheets against one Cecil Osakwe and one Charge sheet against Cecil Osakwe and his Counsel, Victor GIWA, for standing up to opposed DPP’s illegal action against his client.

“The charges are Charge No: CR/244/2022 at the FCT High Court, Charge N0: FHC/ABJ/CR/331/2022 at the Federal High Court and the latest is Charge N0: CR/222/2023 in the FCT High Court, Abuja.

“Curiously, sir, these charges against Cecil Osakwe, a businessman and his Counsel where framed by the DPP, with the intention of weaponizing the charges against Cecil Osakwe and force him to conceded to Asabe Waziri’s reliefs which she could not get in civil courts.

Sir, the subject of the disputes between Asabe Waziri and Cecil Osakwe is the proposed purchase of 2 blocks of flats from Cecil’s Osakwe property -Abeh Signature Apartment in Maitama, Abuja.
Asabe has proposed to purchased the two flats at a purchase price of two hundred and sixty million naira (260,000,000) and made a fifty million deposit, after which was given possession.”

He said shortly after taking possession, there were issues which led to management of the property to terminate the sales agreement.

“The management of the Property decided to terminate the contract with Asabe and refund her deposit. Asabe Waziri insisted on remaining in the property and vowed to deal with Cecil Osakwe.

“The matter was submitted to the FCT High Court before his Lordship Hon Justice Othman Musa, who terminated the transaction and ordered that Asabe Waziri be refunded her deposit including her agency and legal fees and vacate the premises.

“Inspite of the Court Order, Asabe Waziri refused to vacate the premises and subsequently Court Order was enforced against her.

“Surprisingly, the DPP framed and filed the first charge against Cecil Osakwe, accusing him of collecting money from Asabe under false pretense on a property Asabe Waziri stayed for over two years before she was vacated.

“DPP has continued to use the charges against Cecil Osakwe to negotiate Asabe re-entry to the premises even after Cecil Osakwe lodged an appeal against the Court of Appeal decision, setting aside the trial’s court judgement.

“Honourable Minister sir, it based on the allegations of abuse of office, official corruption and bribery that we make the following demands:”That you cause the withdrawal of the Charge no /222/2023 against Cecil Osake and his Council Victor Giwa in the High Court of the FCT for been obtained through money inducement by Asabe Waziri through one Matthew Una of the DPP.

“That you investigate the attempted bribery in dollars by DPP through his agent Matthew Una of an FCT High Court Judge who refused that bribe to arraign Cecil Osakwe”.

  • Binance Allegations Provide Evidence or Face Consequences- Agbese

Binance Allegations Provide Evidence or Face Consequences- Agbese

The Deputy Spokesman of the House of Representatives and Honourable member representing Ado. Okpokwu and Ogbadibo federal constituency of Benue State, Philip Agbese has told the finance executives to provide evidences of the 150 million dollars bribe he and two other lawmakers demanded from them or face the consequences.

Agbese in a statement he personally issued and signed in Abuja said he was outraged by the false allegations made by Tigran Gambaryan, an executive of the controversial crypto firm Binance, claiming that he was among those who demanded a $150 million bribe from him.

Agbese said the allegations are false.

“I was not part of any meeting with any Binance executive regarding money for any purpose. The leadership of the Committee took the matter to court, and Binance has already apologized.

“Let it be on record that I am not a member of the Committee on Economic and Financial Crimes. I visited my colleague, Hon. Peter Ankpanke, in his office, where he was meeting with some visitors about an activity of his Committee, with Hon. Peter Anakwe, a member of the Committee present. We exchanged pleasantries and, in character with my person as an avid pursuer of knowledge, discussed Binance’s activities that did not include any demand from anyone.

“It was during this visit to the office of Hon. Peter Ankpanke, with Hon. Peter Anekwe present, that he told me they were interfacing with Binance Team from abroad over a referral to their Committee. What transpired between the two of them and the Binance executive after I left the office is left to them. I never saw those visitors again after that chance meeting and did not afterwards attend any meeting with Binance executives, the EFCC, or the DSS.

“I am aware that when this issue was first raised, the Chairman of the Committee went to court and Binance apologised. So, all inquiries should be directed to the Committee, not to Hon. Philip Agbese.

” I have never used any cryptocurrency as I do not have a crypto wallet anywhere in the world, so I could not have asked for funds to be credited to a non-existent wallet.

“Gambaryan and his associate, who escaped from prison, should return to the EFCC and defend themselves. Instead of trying to implicate me, they should focus on addressing the allegations against them.
As a consequence of the foregoing, I demand that Tigran Gambaryan publishes any evidence that links Hon. Philip Agbese to the issue. The man has spewed many other lies in his report about the government demanding information on opposition elements and other outrageous claims. I further demand that, failing to provide evidence as stated, Tigran Gambaryan must cause a retraction of his malicious claims and publication and apologise to me within the next 7 days or face legal action from my lawyers.

“This is not the first allegation against me by a foreign entity. The first was that I work for the past government and the Armed Forces to promote Nigeria’s agenda, which shows the extent of desperation by entities that are interested in undermining public office holders they perceive as nationalistic” he said

  • Christian Youth Forum Demands Action Against TikToker Who Targeted Pastor Adeboye

Christian Youth Forum Demands Action Against TikToker Who Targeted Pastor Adeboye

TikToker Seaking crossed the red line by insulting, cursing Pastor Adeboye – Christian Group

The Concerned Christian Youth Forum has reacted to the arrest of popular TikToker Ogunsanwo Olumide John, also known as Seaking, for allegedly insulting the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor E.A. Adeboye.

Recall Ogunsanwo was picked up by officials of the Nigeria Police in Lagos and moved to the Federal Investigation Department (FID) in Abuja under DIG Dasuki Galandanchi for alleged cyberbullying.

The content creator had, in a viral video on TikTok, branded Pastor Adeboye as “very stupid and foolish” for subjecting his congregation to a 100-day fast.

According to the convener of the Concerned Christian Youth Forum, Adama Paul James, which claimed responsibility for the petition that led to the arrest of Seaking, targeting such a prominent and respected figure as Pastor Adeboye serves as a stark reminder of the growing menace of cyber harassment and the urgent need to address it before it spirals out of control.

He said, “This act of brazen cyber harassment is not only reprehensible but also strikes at the heart of our cultural norms and values. It undermines the crucial principle of respect for elders that is so deeply embedded in our society and threatens to erode the very foundations of our moral framework.

“The current social media landscape has exposed a disturbing trend among the younger generation, where they are brazenly attacking and insulting respected Christian leaders with impunity, all in the name of content creation. This phenomenon of moral degeneration is now endemic in our society, reaching unprecedented levels that challenge the very fabric of our values.

“Christian leaders and all elders in our society deserve to be treated with the utmost respect, as they represent the wisdom, experience, and cultural legacy of our nation. The erosion of this fundamental principle of respect for elders is a worrisome development that must be addressed with urgency.

“This is to inform the general public that the said Ogunsanwo Olumide John has been arrested and will be charged to court for his unprovoked, distasteful, and disrespectful insult directed at the revered Christian leader, Papa E.A. Adeboye, on the social media platform TikTok.

“The Concerned Christian Youth Forum is behind his arrest. Let me reiterate that as concerned Christian youths, we will no longer fold our hands and watch such reprehensible behaviors, especially those targeting highly esteemed and prominent figures like genuine leaders of the Christian faith. Such attacks will no longer be tolerated or condoned in our nation.

“Ogunsanwo Olumide John’s insult constituted a grave violation of the Nigerian cybercrime law, specifically Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2024, as amended, which criminalizes cyber harassment, making it punishable by imprisonment.”

  • Cyberbullying: Reno Omokri Lied, Court Never Vacated His Arrest Warrant – Christian Group

Cyberbullying: Reno Omokri Lied, Court Never Vacated His Arrest Warrant – Christian Group

James Paul Adama, the Convener of the Concerned Christian Youth Forum, has described as untrue the recent claim by Reno Omokri that the warrant of arrest issued against him by a court has been quashed.

Recall that the court, presided over by His Worship, Chief Emmanuel A. Iyanna, issued the remand warrant against Omokri through an ex-parte motion filed by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on January 13, 2025, for defaming Christianity and harassing religious leaders online.

However, Omokri, in a post on his Facebook page, claimed that the order had been vacated by the court.

The Concerned Christian Youth Forum, which launched the petition, said Reno’s claim is false and misleading.

Adama, in a statement on Monday, said that contrary to Omokri’s claim, Pastor Paul Enenche never at any point initiated or filed any legal case against him.

He vowed that the group’s primary goal is to put an end to the disparaging remarks and cyberbullying directed at Christianity and its leaders.

    His statement reads:

“I am here today to correct a false assertion made by Reno Omokri and his legal team regarding the claim that his remand warrant was quashed. It is simply untrue and has been made with the intention of creating a deceptive narrative.

“It is important to set the record straight and to ensure that the public is not misled by this misinformation. The matter is ongoing.

“To clarify the matter and set the records straight, contrary to Reno’s misleading claims in his malicious report, Dr. Paul Enenche has never at any point initiated or filed any legal case against him.

“The case in question was brought forward by the concerned Christian youths, not Dr. Enenche, and we have already addressed this fact in our previous media conferences.

“Despite Reno’s continuous and unwarranted attacks on Dr. Paul Enenche, it is important to note that Dr. Enenche has consistently refused to lower himself to Reno’s level by dignifying him with a response — that is, if he even has enough time to read or listen to Reno’s blabbings.

“Reno, a known blackmailer who is notorious for speaking from both sides of his mouth, has no moral high ground to stand on in this matter.

“Dr. Enenche has always maintained his dignity and refused to engage in petty squabbles with morally bankrupt individuals who thrive on falsehood and deceit.

“Reno must take responsibility for his actions and face the concerned Christian youth, who are the rightful parties in this matter.

“It is high time he stopped dragging Dr. Paul Enenche into his ignoble web of lies, hypocrisy, and deceit.

“Dr. Enenche will continue to focus on his ministry and the positive impact he is making in the lives of countless people around the world, leaving Reno to deal with the consequences of his own egregious actions.

“I am perplexed as to why Reno Omokri and his lawyer would attempt to deceive the public by claiming that the magistrate dismissed his case.

“The truth of the matter is that Reno Omokri is still facing legal proceedings, and the claim that his remand warrant has been quashed or that he has been cleared of any wrongdoing is false.

“This misrepresentation of facts is typical of Omokri’s modus operandi, as he has long sought to subvert the truth in order to suit his own agenda.

“The fact remains that the absence of Reno Omokri’s name from the FIR is merely a procedural issue and does not absolve him of any wrongdoing. As the legal process moves forward, it will be up to the courts to determine the veracity of the allegations and deliver justice accordingly. I have obtained the CTC of the court ruling of that day, and it is contrary to the assertion being peddled by Reno Omokri and his co-traveler.

How Car Gift Spark A Row Between Defence Minister, Matawalle, Former Commissioner

A car gift has sparked a row between the minister of state for defence and former governor of Zamfara state, Alhaji Bello Matawalle and his media handler, who also served as Information commissioner in his cabinet in the state, Malam Ibrahim Dosara.

It was gathered that controversy broke out between the minister and Dosara, a highly experienced British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC, trained journalist, with a Facebook outrage alleged to have been sponsored by the minister against him.

In the Facebook post, the former information commissioner was terribly castigated by the minister ‘s facebookers, calling him all sort names, including blackmailing his patent rights.

According to findings, the row began when the minister ordered his aides to give the former commissioner a used car ( Mercedes 230 car 2005 model) which Dosara gifted out to one of his social media managers.

The action angered the minister and his allies which led to media attacks and campaign of columny against Dosara.

All efforts to reach out to either the minister of state defence or Ibrahim Dosara prove abortive.

Dosara has been a strong pillar in defending the minister of state for defense in the series of litigations, petitions, negative media attacks and image making.

The Importance of SSL Certificates in Web Hosting: A Focus on Multiplatforms Web Hosting

An SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate is crucial for any website, and when it comes to web hosting, it plays a significant role in ensuring the safety, trustworthiness, and efficiency of the service. For Multiplatforms web hosting, implementing SSL certificates is vital for both security and business success. Here’s why:

    1. Data Encryption
SSL certificates encrypt the data exchanged between the web server and the user’s browser, ensuring sensitive information like passwords, payment details, and personal data is protected. Multiplatforms web hosting ensures your website visitors’ data is shielded from eavesdropping and cyberattacks, offering an additional layer of security that’s critical for any website.
    2. Building Trust with Visitors
With SSL enabled, your website’s URL will begin with “HTTPS” rather than “HTTP,” and the padlock icon appears next to the address bar. For visitors on websites hosted by Multiplatforms, this reassures them that the site is secure. This is particularly important for e-commerce platforms and financial sites, where customer trust is paramount.
    3. Improved SEO Rankings
Google ranks SSL-secured websites higher, prioritizing them over non-secure sites. For websites hosted on Multiplatforms, this can result in improved SEO rankings, leading to better visibility and more organic traffic. Multiplatforms web hosting’s integration of SSL certificates aligns with this SEO benefit, boosting your website’s search engine performance.
    4. Data Integrity
SSL ensures that the data exchanged hasn’t been tampered with during transmission. Multiplatforms web hosting guarantees the integrity of the data being transferred, preventing “man-in-the-middle” attacks where attackers alter content or inject malware. It’s a proactive step in safeguarding both user data and your website’s reputation.
    5. Compliance with Regulations
For websites that deal with user data, having an SSL certificate is often a legal requirement. For platforms hosted with Multiplatforms, this includes compliance with privacy regulations like GDPR, PCI DSS for e-commerce, and others. Ensuring SSL is enabled helps you stay legally compliant and avoid potential fines.
    6. Customer Confidence and Conversion
A website with an SSL certificate is essential for gaining customer confidence, especially for businesses handling sensitive information. Multiplatforms web hosting ensures that your site’s security is in place, reducing the likelihood of cart abandonment and increasing conversion rates. SSL not only secures transactions but also enhances your brand’s reputation.
    7. Protection from Phishing
SSL certificates provide protection from phishing attacks, which cybercriminals use to create fake websites to steal data. Websites hosted by Multiplatforms with SSL certificates are flagged as secure by browsers, reducing the likelihood of your site being impersonated in phishing scams. This protection builds further trust with your users.
    8. Better Website Performance
Modern SSL protocols, such as TLS (Transport Layer Security), enhance security and can improve website performance by enabling faster data transmission with HTTP/2. With Multiplatforms web hosting, SSL implementation also leads to improved load times and a better overall user experience, making your website faster and more responsive.

    Click to order now!

    Conclusion
In summary, SSL certificates are essential for securing user data, enhancing SEO, improving customer trust, and complying with legal standards. Websites hosted by Multiplatforms web hosting benefit from these advantages, ensuring both security and performance are top-notch. As SSL is a fundamental part of modern web hosting, partnering with a reliable provider like Multiplatforms guarantees your website remains secure, fast, and trusted by visitors.

  • This Blasphemy Must Stop”: Lawyer Adama Paul James on the Arrest of Defamatory Bloggers

This Blasphemy Must Stop”: Lawyer Adama Paul James on the Arrest of Defamatory Bloggers

Activist and lawyer, Adama Paul James has expressed deep concern over the increasing wave of online attacks targeting the Christian faith and revered clerics in Nigeria.

Addressing a news conference on Monday, the lawyer condemned the surge of disparaging statements, libelous claims and malicious accusations circulating on social media platforms and blogs.

His comment came amid the arrest and detenion of a former paster turned atheist, Abraham Daniel and two others for defamation.

According to Adama, “These individuals have consistently used their platforms to launch baseless allegations against the Church and its leaders, seeking to demean and drag the Christian faith into disrepute.”

Adama specifically named one of the prominent individuals involved, Abraham Daniel, who claims to be a humanist.

He said Daniel has repeatedly insulted men of God, made defamatory statements about the Church, and described Christianity as a scam.

“Such actions are not only reckless but are also capable of inciting religious tensions in an already fragile nation. This blatant abuse of social media poses a grave threat to religious harmony and national peace,” he warned.

In response to these online attacks, Adama confirmed that he has taken legal steps by petitioning the relevant authorities.

His efforts have led to the arrest and detention of some of the suspects involved in the campaign of calumny.

He commended the Nigerian Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies for their prompt actions in addressing the issue.

Adama reminded the public of the constitutional provisions guaranteeing freedom of religion and belief. He emphasized that Sections 38 and 40 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as well as international human rights standards to which Nigeria is a signatory, protect the peaceful practice of faith.

“The targeted attacks on Christianity and its clerics constitute a gross violation of these provisions. I am fully committed to ensuring that such attacks do not go unchecked,” he affirmed.

Adama vowed not to remain silent while a few disgruntled elements seek to drag the Christian faith into disrepute and sow seeds of discord in the nation.

He pledged to pursue the matter to its logical conclusion, ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.

He further highlighted the global issue of social media misuse, particularly cyberbullying.

According to Adama, this problem is worsened in Nigeria by the targeted attacks on Christianity and its revered leaders, which have become fodder for content creators, resulting in widespread mockery and defamation of the faith.

“Such blasphemous acts are not only insulting to Christians but also pose a grave danger to societal harmony and tolerance,” he noted.

Adama expressed personal concern about the impact of these attacks on the future of the faith and the spiritual upbringing of younger generations. He described the experience of witnessing deeply held beliefs come under attack as harrowing and unbearable.

He called on all relevant authorities, including the Police, DSS, and other security agencies, to intensify efforts in identifying and prosecuting those who misuse social media to incite religious tension and propagate lies against the Church and its clerics.

“To be clear, this is not a battle against free speech but against the abuse of free speech to promote hatred, falsehood, and religious intolerance. The law is unambiguous: anyone making defamatory or inciting statements must be prepared to substantiate them,” he clarified.

Adama reaffirmed his vision of fostering a society where all faiths are respected, religious harmony is upheld, and the sanctity of belief is protected.

“To be forewarned is to be forearmed. Let this serve as a notice to all those who seek to malign the Christian faith: I will not rest until justice is served and peace is preserved,” he declared.

  • Defamation allegations: CCY claims responsibility for arrest of ex-Pastor-turned-atheist, Abraham Daniel

Defamation allegations: CCY claims responsibility for arrest of ex-Pastor-turned-atheist, Abraham Daniel

The Concerned Christian Youths, a Christian body organisation, has claimed responsibility for the arrest and detention of some persons for cyberbullying and attacks on some Christian leaders in Nigeria.

Recall that the Nigeria Police had invited a former pastor-turned-atheist, Abraham Daniel, and one other person for using their social media platforms to troll some clerics.

However, a section of the media had attributed the arrest to an Abuja-based cleric.

The Christian group in a statement by its cordinator, James Paul Adama, has now confirmed that it is behind the petition that led to the invitation of the suspects by the police.
    The statement reads below:

“Our attention has been drawn to some online publications purportedly claiming that some individuals were arrested by or at the instance of a certain revered man of God. Nothing can be farther from the truth.

“We would like to sensitize the public to treat such publications as egregiously malicious, inciteful and fallacious with the intention of swaying attention from the truth.
“The individuals in question are cyber bullies who have been attacking the Christian Faith and reputable Christian leaders in Nigeria. Those publications are being peddled by the same acrimonious agents in furtherance of their nefarious agenda against the Christian Faith and Christian leaders in Nigeria.
“The arrests were rather made by us, Concerned Christian Youths and Spiritual Sons of the Faith. And we invoked the relevant provisions of the Law against cybercrimes.

“The Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, ETC) ACT 2015 with the Amendment Act, 2024 have explicit, unambiguous provisions against cybercrimes, including cyber-bullying.

“Section 24 sub-section (1) provides that, “A person who knowingly or intentionally sends a message or other matter by means of computer systems or Network that –
    (b) he knows to be false, for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience, danger, obstruction, insult, injury, criminal intimidation, enmity, hatred, ill will or needless anxiety to another or causes such a message to be sent.
“Commits an offence under this Acts and is liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term of not more than 3 years…”
“Similarly, Section 24 Sub-section 2 provides that, “A person who knowingly or intentionally Transmits or causes the Transmission of any communication through a computer system or Network –
    To bully, threaten or harass another person, where such communication places another person in fear of death, violence or bodily harm to another person;
    (c) containing any threat to harm the property or reputation of the addressee or of another or the reputation of a deceased person or any threat to accuse the addressee or any other person of a crime, to extort from any person, firm, association or corporation, any money or other thing of value, commits an offence under this Act, and is liable on conviction –
In the case of paragraph (a) and (b) of this sub-section, to imprisonment for a term of this sub-section, to imprisonment for a term of 10 years…, and,
In the case of paragraph (C) of this sub-section, to imprisonment for a term of 5 years…”
Following the provisions of this Act, the Nigerian Police Force in December 2024 declared cyberbullying as a criminal offence punishable by Law.
“Thus, the activities of the arrested individuals made them liable to prosecution and conviction under the provisions of this Act as highlighted above, and that is the reason for their arrest.

“Before this time, we have invoked the above provisions to arrest and press charges against a certain prophet who was picked up by the police from Lagos, and after having tasted the other side of the Law, he offered a public apology both in electronic and text forms and published same in reputable national dailies. This shows the extent to which we are ready to use the provisions of the Law to confront anyone who denigrates our Faith or attacks our fathers of faith. This is regardless of whether the cyberbully is a self-acclaimed clergy or a laity.
“We are not alone in this war against social media anarchy, brigandage and gangsterism.
“In July 2023, a social media influencer (Tiktoker), Okoye Blessing Nwakaego was sentenced by Justice Oweibo of the Federal High Court, Lagos to 3 years imprisonment for engaging in cyberbullying a Nollywood actress, Eniola Badmus. “The police had accused the convict of conspiring between December 2022 and July 2023 to commit a felony, to wit: cyberstalking.
“The convict was also said to have knowingly caused the transmission of communication via Tiktok, gossip mill tv, remedy blog and other social media network, which is grossly offensive and false and to cause annoyance, inconvenience, danger, insult, injury, criminal intimidation, enmity, hatred, and needless anxiety to the prejudice of one Eniola Badmus.

“And away from Nigeria, in July 2021, a French court convicted 11 people charged with harassing and threatening via the internet, a teenager who harshly criticized a certain religion. The verdict was the first of its kind since France created a new Paris court in January to prosecute online crimes, including harassment and discrimination.
“The court sentenced the defendants to suspended prison terms of four to six months and fined them about $1,770 each.

“Across the globe, the hazards of social media, especially, cyberbullying have assumed a worrisome dimension.
“In Nigeria, it is even more worrisome as these attacks are targeted at the Christian Faith and her reputable leaders. Almost every content creator in Nigeria is using the mockery of Christianity and Christian leaders to ply their trade. This is denigrating, defamatory and blasphemous to Christianity, and therefore unacceptable. No genuine Christian can watch the mockery and denigration of Christianity as is being done in Nigeria with indifference.

‘The most vital part of every man’s existence is his faith or belief system. We find the foundation of our existence as Christians, and our hope for the future, both in this world and in the hereafter, threatened by the barrage of unwarranted attacks against our spiritual leaders.

“Most reputable leaders are either too big or too busy to engage detractors, and we cannot sit idly by and watch some malicious elements attack their reputation with the aim of confusing the minds of their followers. These are the very people from whose mouths we receive the gospel of hope and salvation.

“Beyond this, the activities of these individuals are breeding social anarchy, moral decadence and lawlessness with the overall implication of plunging our society if not the whole nation into an inferno of social and religious violence. Our country has grappled with the challenges of insecurity for so long; we cannot afford to open a new front for another form of violence and insecurity. Therefore, it is in the overall interest of national security to address this social media brigandage called cyberbullying.

“These are the reasons why we cannot hold our peace. We are ready to use every applicable provision of the law to tackle these unwarranted, illogical, brazen, malicious and ill-conceived attacks on the Christian Faith and reputable fathers of Faith in Nigeria regardless of denomination until justice is served and sanity is restored. We are fully armed with the truth, and we know that the forces of evil will always bow before good as the wicked bows at the gates of the righteous.

“In conclusion, we want to reiterate the fact that the publicized arrests were made by us and not by any man of God as purported by those malicious publications. Therefore, any attempt to further twist the narrative and force falsehood down the throats of the public will be vehemently resisted, if necessary, with further legal actions using applicable provisions of the Law.”
