In the late hours of Saturday, October 25, 2025, a tragic lone crash occurred at Alaka Under Bridge in Surulere, Lagos, resulting in the instantaneous death of a motorist.

The incident happened at precisely 11:45 p.m. when a Navy Blue Toyota Camry, registration number EKY 311 GK, traveling at an excessively high velocity inward Iponri,lost control and somersaulted repeatedly.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the Navy Blue Toyota Camry, with registration number EKY 311 GK, was travelling at an excessively high velocity inward Iponri, when the driver lost control of the vehicle near the Alaka Under Bridge in Surulere.

The vehicle somersaulted repeatedly, culminating in a fatal impact that claimed the driver’s life at the scene.

Eyewitnesses and forensic evidence gathered at the site corroborated reports that the deceased was intoxicated, a condition that severely impaired his judgment and reaction time, leading to the catastrophic loss of control.

Members of the LASTMA 24 hours Night Duty Patrol Team, who were actively monitoring vehicular movement within the Surulere corridor at midnight, arrived expeditiously at the crash site, secured and cordoned off the affected area to prevent secondary incidents, and immediately alerted officers from the Bode Thomas Police Division.

The Police, upon arrival, conducted comprehensive documentation of the incident and subsequently released the remains of the deceased to his wife and family members, who were contacted through the deceased mobile device retrieved from the wreckage.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed profound sympathy to the bereaved family, describing the incident as “a tragic yet sobering reminder of the fatal consequences of intoxicated driving.”

He urged all motorists to remain vigilant, responsible, and safety-conscious, especially during the Ember Months, a period historically characterized by increased road traffic and elevated crash risks.

Mr. Bakare-Oki further reiterated that one of the central resolutions of the recently concluded ‘LASTMA Ember Months Stakeholders’ Forum’ was the intensified crusade against drunk driving, a societal menace that continues to exert a heavy toll on human lives within and beyond Lagos State.

He recalled that the forum’s theme, “Safe Roads, Safe Lives… LASTMA Cares,” was purposefully crafted to amplify LASTMA’s renewed commitment to the sanctity of life through enhanced enforcement, sustained public enlightenment, and strategic inter-agency collaboration.

A fully loaded six-tyre truck with registration number AKD 135 YK plunged off the Oshodi Bridge into the terminal ditch, leaving one person severely injured.

The accident occurred due to brake failure while the truck was descending from Oshodi-Oke inward Mile 2.

 

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) responded swiftly, rescuing the injured victim and conveying him to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

The driver was apprehended and handed over to the police for further investigation.

Investigator news reports gathered from the scene indicated that the ill-fated truck experienced a critical mechanical failure while descending the bridge.

The unfortunate incident, which could have culminated in catastrophic casualties,was mitigated by the prompt and professional intervention of LASTMA personnel.

They cordoned off the scene, diverted traffic, and supervised the clearance of the wreckage, restoring traffic normalcy within a short period.

Upon arrival, officers commenced rescue operations and successfully extricated the male victim who sustained grievous injuries in the accident.

The injured man was conveyed to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment.

A devastating accident claimed the life of a pedestrian along Osborne Road, Ikoyi, after a Mercedes Benz truck with registration number KRD 466 XJ suffered a mechanical brake failure.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) swiftly apprehended the driver.

According to reports,the truck was traveling at high speed, lost control and in the ensuing chaos, rammed into a pedestrian walking along the roadside instantly killing the victim.

Investigator news reports that LASTMA officers responded promptly, securing the scene and ensuring smooth traffic flow.

The driver was arrested and handed over to security operatives from Dolphin Estate and Ikoyi Police Divisions for further action and the remains of the deceased pedestrian has been conveyed to a mortuary in Ebute Metta,pending formal identification by the victim’s family.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed deep sorrow and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, describing the incident as both tragic and entirely preventable.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has apprehended a Togolese driver in connection with a fatal road accident at the Adeniji Adele Intersection, inward Ilubirin, Lagos Island.

Investigator news reports that the incident occurred when the driver, operating a Mazda vehicle with registration number EPE 749 GS, lost control while speeding and struck a pedestrian, causing severe injuries.

The forceful impact grievously injured the victim, leaving him sprawled in a pool of blood.

In a brazen bid to elude justice, the culpable driver attempted to abscond from the scene with his vehicle.

LASTMA officers pursued the driver, who attempted to flee the scene, and handed him over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.

Emergency responders from LASAMBUS rushed the injured pedestrian to the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island, where medical treatment was administered.

LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, emphasized the importance of safety consciousness among motorists, noting that excessive speed is a leading cause of accidents in Lagos.

A devastating accident occurred on Tuesday 23, September 2025,along Ijora Causeway in Lagos, claiming the lives of two individuals, including a serving police officer.

Investigator news reports that a fully laden 40-foot container truck container truck XP 368 AKD which overturned upon a commercial tricycle KJA 364 QN conveying unsuspecting passengers resulting in instant fatalities.

Preliminary findings suggest the articulated vehicle lost control while attempting a maneuver beneath the Ijora Bridge, leading to the fatal accident.Regrettably, two passengers among them a serving Police Officer were killed instantly.

LASTMA operatives, in collaboration with emergency responders, rescued two victims with severe bilateral leg fractures, who were rushed to Jimsan Hospital for medical attention as the remains of the deceased Police Officer were subsequently conveyed to a morgue at Yaba by security operatives, while grief-stricken relatives of the second victim, a female passenger, hastened to the scene to retrieve the remains of their loved one.

Combined security personnel from nearby police divisions established robust security cordons to pacify irate onlookers and safeguard emergency responders.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki,expressed profound condolences to the bereaved families of the late Police Officer and the deceased female passenger, describing the tragedy as deeply grievous and most regrettable.

He further offered prayers for the swift recuperation of the two surviving victims who remain under intensive medical care.

Mr. Bakare-Oki went further to equally laud the combined emergency and security agencies for their prompt intervention, commendable professionalism, and proactive measures which forestalled further fatalities and prevented escalation of the situation.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) have jointly responded to two road accidents caused by excessive speed and perilous road conditions due to incessant rainfall in Lagos.

In a press release signed by the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq stated that the first accident was a lone accident involving a Ford automobile occurred along Ozumba Mbadiwe road, Victoria Island, when the driver lost control of the vehicle due to reckless velocity and rain-slicked roadway.

Investigator news reports that the driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was critically injured.The violent collision caused the motorist to strike his chest forcefully against the steering wheel, rendering him critically unconscious and he was rescued by LASTMA operatives and LASAMBUS medical personnel.

In a related but equally tragic development, a multiple-vehicle collision occurred between a Coaster bus (NCA 118 XB) and a Mini bus (FKJ 118 XB) at Volks, inward Abule-Ado.

Investigations disclosed that the coaster bus, travelling at an inordinate speed on the slippery highway, lost control amidst the torrential downpour and violently rammed into the mini bus.

LASTMA personnel, with swift collaboration from medical responders, extricated two gravely injured male victims and urgently transported them to GMC Hospital, Ilaje, Abule-Ado for immediate treatment.

Reinforcement was duly provided by security operatives from the Ojo Divisional Police Command.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, urged motorists to exercise caution and reduce their speed during the rainy season to prevent accidents.

He further conveyed his heartfelt wishes for the swift and complete recovery of all accident victims currently receiving treatment.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed its prompt intervention in two separate road accidents that occurred over the weekend at Olohunsogo Bus Stop, inward Mile 2, and the Stadium Hotel axis of Ojuelegba, Surulere.

In a press release signed by Adebayo Taofiq,Director Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA said that at Olohunsogo, a Toyota Camry with registration number FST 450 HG collided with a stationary Scania truck marked LSR 243 YC. LASTMA’s swift response led to the rescue of the Camry driver and a passenger, both of whom sustained serious injuries. They were rushed to Ademola Hospital for medical attention.

Preliminary investigations suggest that excessive speeding by the Camry driver led to the loss of control, resulting in the crash.

The driver of the Scania truck was detained at the scene, while LASTMA personnel and Ijanikin Police Division officers worked together to clear the accident scene and restore traffic flow.

Taofiq went further to state that in a separate incident at Stadium Hotel, Ojuelegba, a white commercial Mazda bus with registration number KRD 141 YH crashed into the median within the BRT lane.

The bus driver who was discovered unconscious at the point of rescue, together with two passengers, was swiftly evacuated by LASTMA officers and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Fortunately, all three survived without fatal injuries.

One of the survivors, Mrs. Aina Kadri, reported that the bus suffered brake failure while traveling at high speed, leading to the collision.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, lauded the rapidity, professionalism, and collaborative synergy exhibited by LASTMA officers and the Nigeria Police in managing both emergencies.

A devastating road accident occurred at Ibeju Bus Stop along the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos State, resulting in six fatalities and nine injuries.

The accident involved a blue Volvo FL6 truck carrying wooden planks and a white commercial bus.

Investigator news reports that six people lost their lives, including two adult males, three adult females, and one minor child while nine others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

It was further established that four individuals escaped unscathed from the wreckage of this tragic incident

The victims were promptly attended to by the LASTMA Rescue Unit, operating in synergy with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), and the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), whose collaborative efforts ensured rapid evacuation and immediate restoration of order at the scene.

Preliminary investigations revealed that excessive speeding and reckless driving infractions precipitated the accident.
