Investigator news reports that the first incident occurred at Abijo Bus Stop, where a Mitsubishi pick-up van bearing registration number AKD 733 JM, travelling at an exceedingly perilous speed, lost control and crashed into a stationary Craneburg Construction Company equipment, lawfully parked, killing four occupants and injuring three others.

LASTMA rescue teams swiftly rescued three additional female occupants from the wreckage. These survivors were promptly stabilized and handed over to officers of the Eleko Division of the Nigeria Police Force for onward transfer to nearby medical institutions for urgent care and further evaluation.

In a separate incident, a Toyota Escort Jeep at an ungovernable speed, crashed violently into a parked Dangote truck in the Frajend Group axis inward Bogije, along the same Lekki-Epe Expressway killing the driver and injuring two passengers and were meticulously extricated by LASTMA personnel after a laborious and delicate rescue operation.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) through the Director Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq confirms the crash happened at a boundary corridor between Lagos and Ogun States, prompting an emergency response.

Investigations by LASTMA show the fatal collision was caused by brake failure on one of the trucks (YA 701 AAA), which was speeding excessively.

This mechanical failure led to a devastating crash when the truck hit another vehicle ahead, resulting in a terrifying impact.

The force of the crash was immense, turning both trucks into mangled steel and causing widespread panic among motorists and residents nearby. Sadly, an unidentified woman was trapped between the two wrecked vehicles.

The impact was catastrophic, leaving little chance of survival for several occupants.

“The tragic accident instantly claimed the lives of eight passengers, including the driver of the ill-fated bus and his conductor, casting a somber pall over the Badagry axis and leaving the community in profound mourning and collective grief,”

The incident which happened at approximately 1:30 a.m. at Idi-Iroko, inbound Maryland saw LASTMA’s prompt response and skilled rescue operation saved the life of a male occupant trapped in the wreckage.

According to preliminary assessments conducted by security personnel—who were urgently summoned to the scene by operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA)—the articulated truck suffered a critical mechanical failure, specifically brake malfunction, believed to have been precipitated by excessive speed.

Investigator news reports that this malfunction caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, leading to the truck’s container detaching and toppling violently onto the Sienna, which was crushed entirely beneath its massive weight.
