A tragic vehicular crash at the Mosalasi Roundabout on New Ipaja Road, Lagos, has claimed the life of an innocent female pedestrian after a speeding Toyota Tundra with registration number FST 222 HV veered off the road and struck her.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the vehicle, travelling at an egregiously excessive speed, veered uncontrollably off the carriageway, mounted the pedestrian walkway, and fatally struck a woman who died instantly from the impact.

The momentum of the vehicle subsequently propelled it into a nearby private premises known to be engaged in the sale of livestock, where it inflicted significant structural damage to the perimeter fence and an adjoining advertising billboard.

Investigator news reports that the driver attempted to flee the scene but was swiftly apprehended by the coordinated and courageous intervention of LASTMA officials and handed over to security personnel from the Gowon Estate Command.

The suspect is currently undergoing interrogation by police authorities as part of an ongoing investigation into the incident.

In a release signed by the Director Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department,Taofiq Adebayo,the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed his profound sorrow over the tragic loss of life and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

He said,”This is a deeply sorrowful occurrence that underscores the grave consequences of reckless driving. We mourn with the family of the deceased and pray earnestly that the Almighty grants them the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”

Mr. Bakare-Oki went further to issue a clarion call to all motorists,private and commercial alike urging them to subject their vehicles to routine safety checks, with particular emphasis on the integrity of braking systems.

He reiterated that adherence to traffic regulations is not merely a legal obligation but a moral imperative to safeguard lives and property on Lagos roads.

“The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority remains steadfast in its commitment to enforcing traffic laws and promoting road safety culture throughout the state.”he concluded

A gruesome accident occurred along the Sabo Onimalu corridor,inward Itamaga,in the Ikorodu axis of Lagos State,claiming the life of a commercial motorcyclist when a flour-laden articulated truck crushed the rider.

The incident which has sent shockwaves through the community transpired in the early hours of Sunday 1, June 2025.

According to the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq,the harrowing incident involved a commercial motorcyclist who,while reportedly navigating at an uncontrollably high velocity, tragically collided with a fully loaded articulated truck transporting flour.

He stated that preliminary findings from an immediate on-site investigation suggest that the motorcyclist suffered a sudden and catastrophic brake malfunction, rendering him incapable of regaining vehicular control.

As a result, he forcefully rammed into the rear of the moving trailer, culminating in instantaneous fatality.

Investigator news reports that LASTMA Officers, who arrived promptly as the first emergency responders, took swift and decisive action to manage the ensuing chaos and secure the accident scene.

During this intervention, it was discovered that the driver of the articulated vehicle had fled the location in a bid to evade responsibility.

Demonstrating commendable professionalism and presence of mind, LASTMA personnel embarked on a rapid pursuit, successfully apprehending the absconding driver.

Lastma personnel immediately transferred the arrested driver to the operatives of the Nigeria Police Force attached to the Shagamu Road Division, Ikorodu, for further investigation and potential prosecution under the relevant traffic and criminal statutes.

Investigator news gathered that the mangled remains of the deceased motorcyclist were tragically found trapped beneath the truck.

With clinical precision and due sensitivity, LASTMA officials extricated and evacuated the corpse.

The body was thereafter handed over to members of his family who rushed  to the accident scene after receiving phone calls from his other motorcyclists.

In a solemn response to the tragic event, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, conveyed his profound condolences to the family of the deceased.

He invoked divine comfort and strength for them in this moment of irrevocable loss and emphasized the importance of heightened vigilance on the part of road users.

Mr. Bakare-Oki went further to use the occasion to deliver a firm appeal to the leadership of commercial motorcycle operators’ unions across the State.

The GM urged them to intensify sensitization campaigns among their members, emphasizing the imperatives of vehicular integrity, adherence to safety protocols, and unwavering compliance with traffic regulations.

He reiterated the Lagos State Government’s policy on the restricted movement of commercial motorcycles along some corridors, highways and bridges, urging total conformity in the overriding interest of public safety and order.

“It is of utmost urgency that operators of commercial motorcycles assume greater responsibility by subjecting their bikes to routine mechanical checks—especially essential components such as brakes.

“The loss of life resulting from such preventable mechanical failures is both regrettable and unacceptable,” Mr. Bakare-Oki stated with gravity.

An auto crash involving two vehicles has occurred on Tuesday 27,May 2025,around Iyana-Oworo, by Olopomeji inward Car Wash.

The incident, which left a woman and a young girl severely injured, underscores the growing concerns about reckless driving and the blatant disregard for traffic safety regulations.

According to preliminary investigations, the crash was precipitated by a white commercial Toyota Hiace bus, with registration number LSR 701 EF, which was not only overloaded but also travelling at an excessive speed.

In a release signed by the Director Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Taofiq Adebayo stated that the vehicle reportedly suffered sudden brake failure and rammed violently into a private car ahead of it,stating that the impact of the collision resulted in extensive damage to the commercial Hiace bus and left 2 passengers in a serious distress.

Investigator news reports that LASTMA officials promptly arrived at the scene to administer emergency assistance to a woman, whose legs were fractured, and a young lady with multiple serious injuries and they were swiftly evacuated and handed over to the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), who transported them to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment.

Security reinforcement was promptly provided by officers from the Alonge Police Division, who ensured crowd control and safety of the crash site while LASTMA operatives efficiently cleared the wreckage and evacuated all involved vehicles from the road to restore traffic flow.

In his reaction to the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, decried the growing trend of over-speeding and disregard for traffic safety protocols among commercial drivers.

He emphasized the importance of complying with the state government’s mandatory speed-limiting devices installed in commercial vehicles, stressing that these measures are designed to curb road carnage and safeguard lives.

“We must collectively recognize that road safety is a shared responsibility. The installation of speed limiters is a deliberate policy to ensure that drivers operate within safe speed thresholds. This tragic incident might have been prevented had such regulations been followed,” Mr. Bakare-Oki stated.

 A collision involving a white Ford Jeep with registration number: (KWL 574 CY)and a commercial mini-bus with plate number: FST 207 YK number on the Lekki-Ajah corridor in Lagos has left the driver and a passenger of the bus unconscious.

In a release signed by the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq stated that the accident occurred on Thursday 22,May 2025 near Ikota School, inward Ajah along the ever-busy Lekki-Ajah corridor.

Preliminary findings indicate that the driver of the Ford Jeep, while allegedly travelling at a dangerously high speed, lost control of the vehicle and violently rammed into the moving commercial mini-bus.

The resulting impact left the minibus extensively damaged. Regrettably, the bus driver slipped into a coma after suffering a severe fracture to his right arm, while a passenger aboard the vehicle sustained intense nasal haemorrhaging and was rendered unconscious at the scene.

LASTMA officers promptly responded, coordinating the evacuation of the injured to a nearby medical facility while securing the accident site to ease traffic flow as Police officers from the Ajiwe Divisional Headquarters provided support and maintained security during the rescue operation.

The General Manager, LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, while reacting, underscored the grave dangers of reckless driving.

“Excessive speed remains a foremost contributor to fatal road incidents. Motorists are strongly advised to exercise prudence and prioritise life over haste,” he emphasised.

Bakare-Oki extended his sincere wishes for the swift recovery of the injured victims and reaffirmed the agency’s steadfast dedication to safeguarding lives through proactive traffic management and public safety advocacy.

A fatal accident involving two fully loaded Mack trucks with registration numbers T-10357 LA, and KJA 107 XM had a collision,overturn and crushed two dispatch riders to death at the Eko bridge inward Alaka corridor, Lagos.

In a release by the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA,Adebayo Taofiq stated that the fatal incident which has sent ripples of grief and alarm through the Lagos motoring public,suggest that the driver of one of the articulated trucks, reportedly was driving at an excessive speed while allegedly dozing off, lost control of the vehicle.

He went further to state that the truck careened into another moving trucks ahead of it, which triggered into a violent impact, noting that the catastrophic collision led to the dislodgement of a 20-foot container from one of the trucks, which subsequently crushed two unsuspecting dispatch riders who were navigating the route at the time and both victims were confirmed dead at the scene.

Investigator news reports that swift and coordinated response from Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) Officers, who were on routine traffic monitoring duty beneath the Eko Bridge, ensured the immediate rescue of one severely injured truck driver. He was promptly transported to a nearby hospital in a Lagos State Government ambulance for urgent medical attention.

However, the remaining two truck drivers absconded from the scene, presumably out of fear of the grim aftermath.

To forestall further incidents and safeguard other road users, LASTMA personnel immediately cordoned off the affected stretch of the bridge and redirected vehicular traffic through the Coastain Roundabout inward Alaka en route to Stadium.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, in his message of condolence to the bereaved families, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives.

He reiterated the critical importance of responsible driving, particularly for operators of articulated vehicles, while urging all drivers to exercise utmost caution,maintain full alertness, and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before commencing any journey.

Mr. Bakare-Oki further emphasized that the Agency’s ongoing, robust public enlightenment campaigns aimed at instilling safety consciousness among drivers, especially those operating heavy-duty vehicles,as investigations are currently underway to trace and apprehend the fleeing drivers involved in the fatal crash.

Investigator news gathered that other emergency responders at the scene of the accident includes: Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LSNSC), State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) and Police man from Iporin Division of the State.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has issued a stern warning and advise to the public, particularly pedestrians,on the critical importance of using designated overhead pedestrian bridges.

This appeal comes in the wake of a tragic incident over the weekend, in which a pedestrian lost his life after being struck by a lorry while attempting to unlawfully cross the Ojota expressway on foot.

Investigator news reports that the fatal collision occurred as the lorry was navigating the main carriageway at Ojota when it encountered the pedestrian who was crossing in violation of established safety regulations.

In a failed attempt to flee the scene, the lorry driver lost control of the vehicle and subsequently collided with a Toyota Corolla bearing registration number LND 905 HN.

Investigator news gathered that LASTMA personnel, responded swiftly and efficiently, apprehended the fleeing driver and secured the vehicle and handed both of them over to operatives of the Ogudu Police Division for a thorough investigation and appropriate legal action.

In accordance with official protocols, LASTMA officers respectfully transferred the remains of the deceased to officials of the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU), ensuring that due diligence and dignity were observed in handling the casualty.

He reaffirmed the Authority’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and promoting a culture of road safety in Lagos.

Mr. Bakare-Oki went further to underscored the grave risks involved in crossing high-speed expressways at unauthorized points, describing such actions as both dangerous and irresponsible.

“It is reckless and unlawful to ignore the infrastructural provisions made for pedestrian safety”
