    Mob Lynches suspect, sets body ablaze in Anambra as operatives rescue two victims

    In Awada, Anambra State, an angry mob is said to have lynched a kidnapping suspect and burned his body.
    The incident was confirmed by the state police command on Friday.

    The deceased, who was a member of a seven-man kidnapping gang, was reportedly left behind by his associates after security personnel stopped the vehicle in which they were transporting two abducted victims, making it impossible for him to escape.
    They were accosted by the security personnel while they were carrying their victim along Obosi Road in Awada, close to Onitsha.
    He allegedly tried to flee, but locals pursued him, seized him, and lynched him before setting him on fire.
    The source claimed that their victims had also been saved unharmed.
    The state police public relations officer, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, confirmed the incident and stated that it took place in Awada.
    A Toyota Highlander jeep with registration number NSH 398 HA and a Toyota Camry with registration number BRS 941 AA were recovered by operations working with security operatives at around 9 p.m. on June 23, 2022, he said.

    Security personnel “intercepted a seven-man kidnapping gang along Awada,” DSP Ikenga continued. Six of the seven gang members fled as police tried to apprehend them, abandoning both the victim’s car and their own working vehicle. Before police officers could arrive on the scene, the seventh person who had been arrested had been lynched and set on fire. As a result, the police commissioner, CP Echeng, criticized the actions of some members of the public who use “jungle justice” to hold criminal suspects without first going to the police for a full investigation.

    “Echeng also told them to never use the force of the law and to always be calm. When they catch them, they should try to get them to the nearest police station as soon as possible. This would give the police a chance to look into the suspects’ bad behavior and bring them to justice according to the law. Police have started an operation to catch the gang members and suspects who are running away after setting the arrested suspect on fire.

    The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed that Uzairu Salisu, who is 16 years old and lives in Kwanan Gulmanmu, Jahun quarters in Bauchi metropolis, was attacked by a friend who took out both of his eyes.

    Ahmed Wakili, the spokesman for the state police command, told the Tribune that on Thursday around 6 p.m., a distress call came in from Mohammed Lawal, the Ward Head of Birshi, which is a suburb of Bauchi metropolis.

    Lawal said in the statement that a 16-year-old boy was found in a pool of blood at Dutsen Jira in the Yelwa area of Bauchi with his eyes pulled out.

    Ahmed also said that a group of police officers led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Yelwa went to the scene of the crime and took the victim to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital Bauchi (ATBUTH) for treatment.

    The victim told investigators that Ibrahim of Rafin Zurfi, whom he had known for a while, lured him to the bush with a promise of a simple job and then cut out his eyes.

    The police spokeswoman said that the victim was getting care at the hospital and that the public would be kept up to date as the investigation went on.

    Umar Mamman Sanda, who is in charge of the police, promised to find out what was going on and make sure that anyone who was found to be responsible would be brought to justice.

    Sanda says, “It is more important than ever that the whereabouts of wards and the people they hang out with are always checked by all those in charge.”

    Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate for president, has broken his silence about the problems of Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, who are both in trouble.

    After appearing before a UK court on charges of bringing a child to the UK for organ harvesting, the Ekweremadus was remanded on Thursday.

    In response, Obi tweeted on Friday, “My family and I are with the Ekweremadu’s over their tribulation. We commit them into God’s hands for justice to be served, praying with all men of good will for the recovery of their daughter.

    Ekweremadu recently made headlines for declaring that the South-East region would not support Obi in the elections of 2023.

    The state ministry of education has released a 68-year-old retired permanent secretary and more than 140 other people who were caught impersonating during the Anambra State teachers recruitment Computer Based Test (CBT) examination on Saturday, June 18. This was done in violation of the Examination Malpractice Act.
    After beginning on Saturday, June 4, the CBT exam was later canceled due to website malfunction that was reportedly caused by a suspected cyber-attack only 30 minutes into the test.

    About 1000 teachers employed by the former governor Willie Obiano and members of the Parents, Teachers Association (PTA), who were protesting their dismissal by the government of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, were blamed by the state’s commissioner of education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, for the cyberattack.
    The education commissioner told SaharaReporters over the phone that the 68-year-old retired Permanent Secretary in the state—she omitted his name—presented an affidavit stating that he was 38 years old.
    She claimed that the man insisted on taking the test until she requested permission from the invigilating supervisors.
    “The man entered, unaware that we were watching him. The invigilating supervisor called me and said that the man was up to something, but I told him to wait, that I would catch him,” she said. “He wrote the first one and logged in for the second one.
    The man was apprehended, according to the commissioner, while attempting to write the second exam; he later claimed to be a senior citizen. But when pressed on the matter, he explained that he was impersonating one of his three children because his wife had been running late and he was living alone.
    “When I questioned him about whether what he did was appropriate given his age, he insisted that we allow him to take the exam. More than 146 impersonators were caught by us.

    When asked what happened to the 68-year-old man and the other impersonators discovered during the exam, she responded that they were prevented from taking the test but were released.
    “We released them but forbade them from writing. We then asked the elderly man to leave after removing the first letter he had written to his daughter from history.

    In the meantime, Section 3 (2a-c) of the Examination Malpractice Act 1999 No. 33 said about impersonation, “A person convicted of an offense under subsection (1) of this section is liable on conviction to a fine of N100,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years, or to both such fine and imprisonment in the case of a person under the age of 18.”

    Two Nigerians have been charged by the London Metropolitan Police with conspiring to bring a child to the UK for the purpose of harvesting organs, the police announced on Thursday.

    Ike Ekweremadu, a former deputy senator in Nigeria, and his wife Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu share the same names and ages as the accused, a man and a woman.

    The Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Team conducted an investigation, according to the police, who provided the following information about the accused:
    [A] Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55 (10.9.66), of Nigeria, is accused of conspiring to set up or facilitate another person’s travel with the intention of exploitation, specifically organ harvesting.

    [B] Ike Ekweremadu, 60 (12.05.62), of Nigeria, is accused of conspiring to set up or facilitate another person’s travel with the intention of exploitation, specifically organ harvesting.

    According to the police, “the investigation was started after detectives were notified of potential offenses under modern slavery legislation in May 2022.”

    The biographical information provided is consistent with the husband and wife of Mr. Ekweremadu, a senator currently serving as the Deputy Senate President.

    Uche Anichukwu, the spokesperson for Mr. Ekweremadu, has been contacted, but as of the time of publication, he has not responded to our inquiries.

    They have both been placed back in custody and will show up in court later today, according to Met.

     

    Since criminal proceedings are currently under way, Met stated, “We will not be providing further details.”

    The police said that “A child has been safeguarded and we are working closely with partners on continued support,” without specifying the child’s gender.

    On Thursday, the Anambra State Commissioner for Culture, Tourism, and Entertainment, Don Onyenji, stated that the state government had eventually clamped down and completely sealed off the hotel in the Nkpor Idemili-North local government area of the state where underaged girls were used as sex slaves, prostitutes, and baby sellers.

    The hotel was located in the Nkpor Idemili-North local government area. The Commissioner, who made this statement during an exclusive interview, said that his ministry had gone to the hotel and discovered that the said location does not qualify to be called a hotel because it didn’t meet the criteria for the classification of hotels in the state.

    The criteria for the classification of hotels in the state are as follows: the hotel must have at least ten rooms.

    Oyenji went on to say that the location lacked the necessary certifications and licenses to function as a hotel in the state of Anambra, and the government does not include it on the list of hotels that are currently operational in the state.

    According to him, it is an illegitimate hotel, and he was the remote reason why illegal and various forms of criminal activity were allowed to hold sway therein. He says this hotel is full of criminals.

    Onyenji disclosed further that the necessary government organs have conducted their checks on the hotel, and that some arrests have been made at the location while the government continues to keep an eye on the facility while it is sealed.

    Onyenji also stated that the hotel has been sealed off by the government. However, he disclosed that there is a plan in place to revalidate all of the hotels in the state of Anambra to ensure that they are operating with licenses and legally, as well as to standardize the tourism industry, which he said includes the operations of hotels to ensure that their operations met global standards.

    He said this will ensure that the hotels are operating in accordance with the law. That in accordance with the vision laid out by Governor Soludo, the ministry would make every effort, within the bounds of the law, to ensure that all of the necessary components are in place to bring about the creation of a smart megacity in the state.

    The Lagos State Police Command has detained potential traffic robbers. Usman Mohammed, Azeez Adeleke, and Solomon Odiya in three Ikeja.

    SP In a statement released in Lagos, Benjamin Hundeyin, the Command’s spokesperson, confirmed the arrest.

    According to Hundeyin, the suspects were taken into custody on June 19 at around 8:00 p.m. on Mobolaji Johnson Road in Ikeja.

    “The suspects were detained by Alausa Division of the Command officers in response to a distress call the police received regarding an ongoing robbery attack at Ikeja.

    “After robbing their victims, they were caught as they tried to flee with their loot. One Tecno mobile phone, one dagger, and N5,400 were found on the suspects, the official said.

    According to him, preliminary investigations showed that the suspects had previously operated in the area a few times, stealing the possessions of unwary bystanders.

    At the conclusion of the investigations, he said, the suspects would be arraigned in court.

    Residents could rest easy knowing that Hundeyin and the Command, led by Commissioner of Police Abiodun Alabi, would continue to take every precaution to protect people and property in the state.

    The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has received a petition to investigate a Senior Advocate of Nigeria for alleged contract fraud.

    The SAN was accused of breaching an agreement on a contract worth NI, 310,195,055 awarded by the Kebbi State Government to a company in which the senior lawyer was alleged to have an interest, according to a petition filed by a group under the aegis of Group Against Corruption on June 14, 2022.

    According to a petition signed by Mr Benjamin David, the contract was for the supply of beds to the Kalgo Local Government Area of Kebbi State, but the items were never delivered in full, despite Swiss Biostadt, the company introduced to the Kebbi government by the SAN, collecting an upfront sum of N786,117,033.
    As a result, the group urged the commission to conduct a thorough investigation into the situation.

    Part of the petition addressed to the commission chairman reads, “Sir, it is perplexing for a person of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria who has reached the pinnacle of his legal career to bring a company that siphoned money meant to provide essential facilities that would have strengthened the health delivery services in Kebbi State to bring a company that siphoned money meant to provide essential facilities that would have strengthened the health delivery services in Kebbi State.”

    “The SAN has provided the Kebbi State Government with numerous legal services, and his firm maintains a retainership with the state government.”

    “Sir, it is within all persons and institutions of government in Nigeria’s avowed constitutional responsibilities to expose suspicious financial scandals in order to ensure a corrupt-free society, and the leaders are enjoined to act swiftly in the interest of a peaceful society.”

    “In light of the foregoing, we respectfully request that you use your good offices and direct your capable officers to do the following: Examine the contract that was given to Swiss Biostadt Limited.

    “Track and trace the contract sum’s linkage to the SAN, investigate payments for which taxes were not remitted to the Government coppers by him, prosecute those involved, recover the looted funds, and ensure the project’s completion.”

    Police kill four bandits and apprehend female arms supplier in Kaduna

    According to the Kaduna State Police Command, its officers killed four bandits in a gunfight and detained a female guns and ammunition supplier in the state.

    The success, according to the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Muhammed Jalige, was the result of a sustained onslaught against banditry and other criminal elements in the state by operatives of the Special Tactical Squad Force Headquarters, Abuja, in conjunction with Operation Yaki of the State Command on June 15, 2022, at around 0650hrs, while on the trail of suspected bandits intercepted their target along the Saminaka–Jos expressway.
    He stated they were apprehended in a Sharon car, blue in colour, operated by James Dawi, 31, of Vom town in Plateau State’s Jos South LGA.

    “Sensing an inescapable hazard presented on their approach to transfer some lethal weapons to their accomplices,” the suspected bandits “quickly engaged the operators in intermittent gunfire,” according to Jalige.

    “However, the operators were able to terminally hurt four suspects with tactical precision.” The injured suspects were airlifted to Kaduna’s Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, where a medical specialist pronounced them dead.

    “The shootout lasted around 30 minutes, and the Police’s firepower led the robbers to flee into the forest with gunshot wounds.”

    The following exhibits were discovered during a search of the car and the surrounding area: one AK49 rifle loaded with six rounds of live ammunition, one AK47 rifle, one empty magazine, 134 rounds of various calibres of live ammunition, and an operating motor vehicle.

    “The operation resulted in the arrest of a female accomplice, who confessed to supplying arms and ammunition to bandits in Kaduna State during the course of investigation. Meanwhile, a discreet investigation into the case has been launched with the aim of unravelling the identities of other criminal gangs, as well as finding the source of these dangerous weapons, in order to prevent future occurrences and make the criminals face the full wrath of the law.”

    “The Commissioner of Police for Kaduna Command, CP Yekinin A. Ayoku, has praised the well-executed intelligence-driven tactical operation that led to the breakthrough.”

    “He promised the good people of Kaduna State that the Command will be uncompromising in the fight against the enemies of collective security under the command of the Inspector General of Police, with robust backing from the State Government and active coordination with other security agencies,” he said.

    “The Commissioner also urged members of the public to continue to provide important information about all types of criminal activity to the police, saying that officers under his command would treat such information with promptitude and strict secrecy.”

    Mr Onwele Anayo, 34, has been arrested in Hillview Estate, Nkwelle-Ezunaka, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, for the murder of Divine Eze, a three-year-old girl.

    DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, the command’s spokesman, revealed this to journalists in Awka, the capital of Anambra State, on Thursday.
    “Anambra State Police operatives arrested one Mr Onwele Anayo ‘M’, 34, on the murder of Divine Eze ‘M’, 3, residing in Hillview Estate, Nkwelle -Ezunaka, today 16th of June, 2022,” he said.

    “According to preliminary information, the suspect paid a visit to the victim’s father on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, and stayed the night at the victim’s residence.” A fight broke out between the suspect and his father in the early hours of Thursday, June 16, 2022.

    “The suspect (Mr Anayo) kidnapped and killed the child (Divine) while she was sleeping on the floor. Mr Anayo walked around the house with a knife in his hand, threatening to kill the father.

    An investigation is underway after police officers arrived at the scene and discovered the child’s body. We’ll keep you updated as things progress.”
