The Delta State Police Command has announced glowing achievements recorded from its policing activities in the last couple of months.

The Command made the announcement during a parade of suspects and press briefing at the State Command headquarters in Asaba, Delta state.

 

Addressing Newsmen at the police headquarters,the police image maker,SP Edafe Bright in a statement said that the Command has lived up to expectation in the protection of lives and property of Delta state citizens as it has clamped down different reprehensible crimes.

The statement noted that some landmark breakthroughs were achieved during the period under review.

The first of the achievements was the case of arrest of some suspected armed robbers and cultists at different locations of Oghara town in Ethiope East LGA of Delta state, where five suspects namely Ochuko Joel Ofoye 35yrs of Jedo Community in Okpe LGA Delta State a member of Juris Confraternity and Michael Anwul 29yrs of Alisimie Community Agbor, in Ika South LGA Delta State of Juris confraternity Great Ojareri 35 yrs. of Oghareki Community in Ethiope West Oghara Delta State Member of Eiye Confraternity and Innocent Esefeta 31 yrs of Efisere Community in Ughelli North LGA Delta State a resident of behind Ibori Road Oghara Delta State, Ogaga Ebuke 27yrs of Okpe Community in Orerokpe LGA Delta State a resident of Western Delta Road in Oghara Delta State were arrested and items recovered include one Beretta pistol, two AK-47 magazines, one locally made cut-to-size gun, and twenty-nine rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. The suspects are in custody and investigation is ongoing.

In another case two suspects,Abibu Haruna age 37years and Sanusi Haruna aged 22years both residents at Hausa quarters were arrested in possession of a bag containing 55 iPhones, one HP Laptop, Two Android Tabs, 33 Android Phones. Upon further interrogation,the PPRO went on to say that the suspects confessed to having bought the said phones and laptop from two suspected armed robbers namely Nasiru and Ghala surnames unknown both trading in Hausa Quarters Warri, stating that they usually transport the phones to Niger Republic on trailer carrying Scraps that one Agaji,surname unknown resident in Niger Republic is their sponsor.

Further investigation revealed that some of the phones were part of those stolen during the armed robbery attack on Niger Delta University students. Manhunt to for the fleeing suspects is ongoing.

Other areas of exploits as detailed by the statement include the arrest some suspected kidnappers,who has been terrorizing the residents of Agbarho,noting that the arrest was successfully carried out at uwurghelli village by the rail track following an intelligence report from a concerned resident. Sequel to this information, the DPO Agbarho Division swiftly detailed and led Police operatives to the bush, cordoned off the entire area and carried out an intensive search during which sack bags were sighted hidden and upon search of the sack bags, three (3) AK-49 rifles, two (2) AK-47 Rifles, and Two Hundred and Seven (207) rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition were recovered as the command has launched a serious manhunt for the fleeing suspected kidnappers.

SP Edafe went further to state that the police command also recorded another milestone as three suspected gun runners who manufactures guns and supply to suspected armed robbers and kidnappers were arrested .The trio Tega Dierunaba 44yrs of Ororokpe Community in Okpe LGA Delta State a resident of Enehren area of Warri Town, Chibiuke Anuforo Cosmas 42yrs of Orlu Town in Nkwerre LGA Imo State a resident of Musheshe Cold-Room Industrial Area, Enehren Road Warri, a distributor of arms supplied and Sunday Moses Pam 36yrs of Von Community in Jos South LGA Plateau State a resident of Oka Closed Street, in Enehren Warri Delta State who usually concealed and convey the arms from Plateau State to Delta State.

He noted that all suspects have admitted to the crime as confessed earlier by one Goodluck Sakutu 38yrs of Ekpan Community Uvwie LGA Delta State who was earlier arrested and one fabricated AK-47 rifle was recovered from him. Suspects are in custody while investigation is ongoing.

He said,”Acting on credible intelligence gathered over a period and an in-depth technical intelligence related to the kidnapping of one male victim (name withheld) kidnapped at his resident in Adjakota area In Ughelli South LGA of Delta State, the operatives on Special Assignment led by ASP Julius Robinson cracked down the deadly kidnapping syndicate responsible for the act on 01/07/2024 at about 1200hrs and arrested one Ismaila Umaru 28yrs ‘m’ of Kekura Village in Awe LGA of Nasarawa State but resident at Oghara town by Power Line, Delta State. On 04/07/2024 at about 2030hrs, the suspect led operatives to the arrest of two (2) other gang members namely Chede Mohammed ‘m’ 18yrs a native of Nasarawa State but resident of Agwara in Ughelli South LGA of Delta State and Mohammadu Sani ‘m’ 26yrs a native of Banbiru area of Abuja but resident at Upper Agbarho Area of Ughelli North. Acting on their confession at about 0530hrs of 05/07/2024, the operatives stormed the bush by Oviri-ogor where the operatives encountered an attack from other gang members, one where one of the suspects hiding in the bush sustained serious gunshot injuries and was taken to the hospital where he died while receiving treatment. One AK 49 rifle was recovered in the hideout, investigation is ongoing.”he submitted

Sequel to series of cult related activities, Kidnapping and armed robbery in Sapele, Oghara and its environs,the Delta state police command has arrested five suspected armed robbers and cultists terrorizing the citizens in the state.

Parading the suspects at the police headquarters,the Commissioner of Police CP Olufemi Abaniwonda directed the team on special assignment to work collaboratively with the DPOs Oghara and Sapele Division in order to clean the state from crime and other nefarious activities.

He went on to say that on the 18th of July,2024 the team led by ASP Julius Robinson raided three different syndicates of cultists and suspected armed robbers at various location in oghara town, Ethiope East LGA of Delta state, where five suspects namely Ochuko Joel Ofoye 35yrs of Jeddo Community in Okpe LGA Delta State, a member of Juris Confraternity and Michael Anwul aged 29yrs from Alisimie Community Agbor, in Ika South LGA Delta State of Juris confraternity, Great Ojareri aged 35 yrs from Oghareki Community in Ethiope West LGA Oghara Delta State, a member of Eiye Confraternity and Innocent Esefeta aged 31 yrs of Efisere Community in Ughelli North LGA Delta State,a member of Juris confraternity were arrested

Abaniwonda noted that two(2) AK 47 Magazines and Twenty-Nine (29) rounds of live ammunition,one beretta pistol,a locally made pistol with one live cartridge concealed in a shoe were recovered, stating that the suspects are in police custody and investigation is ongoing

According to NDLEA Spokesman,Femi Babafemi,the hard drugs were meant to be smuggled in and out of Nigeria through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), noting that some suspects were apprehended

“A businessman, Abdulwahab Owolabi Alebiosu was on Thursday 18th July 2024 arrested at his Horizon Court, Lekki, Lagos residence after a consignment of 40 parcels of Loud weighing 20.30 kilograms hidden in packs of chessboards, scrabbles, checkers, and poker set, brought in from Canada on a British Airways flight was intercepted at the SAHCO import shed of the Lagos airport during a joint examination of the cargo with men of Customs Service,” the statement read.

“A search of his home also led to the recovery of more exhibits including some drug paraphernalia, such as a weighing scale, and cannabis potency test kit, while four vaping machines were recovered from his business premises on Admiralty Way, Lekki. A Mikano black truck with registration number FST 657 HP was also recovered from his house.

“In the same vein, NDLEA operatives at the NAHCO export shed of the MMIA on Friday 19th July intercepted two jumbo bags going to Pakistan. The bags contained dried hibiscus leaves, dried bitter leaves and other food items, which were used to conceal four parcels of cocaine and 14 parcels of Loud, both weighing 1.360kg. Further investigations led to the arrest of a businesswoman, Eze Queen Ogechi who claimed she was sending the illicit consignment to Pakistan on the instruction of her brother, Eze Nnamdi Promise based in the South Asia country.

“Also at the Lagos airport, NDLEA operatives attached to Terminal II, Departure Gate of the MMIA, on Thursday 18th July intercepted a male Beninese passenger, Orobi Adoubi Amen, travelling with a bag containing some female native dresses. The suspect was going to Dubai via Accra, Ghana on an Air Peace Airline flight and a connecting flight to Dubai, UAE on Emirates Airline. A thorough search of the bag revealed eight parcels of Loud weighing 2.10kg were concealed in the ladies’ native wears. The suspect claimed he was given the consignment for a fee of N600,000 on successful delivery in Dubai.”

On his part, the NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd) commended anti-narcotics officers for the seizures.

He said that their operational successes and those of their compatriots across the country are well appreciated, urging them not to rest on their oars but continue to intensify ongoing drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction efforts

The Delta Police Command has rescued thirty five women among which twenty three are teenage girls who were allegedly being trafficked from the East to Ughelli, Delta state for prostitution.

This was disclosed by the command’s Public Relations Officer,SP Bright Edafe while briefing journalists on Thursday,18th July,2024.

Edafe stated that the operation was carried out on the 15th of July,2024 based on credible intelligence that a human trafficking syndicate who specializes in trafficking women from the East and brings them to Ughelli, Delta state for prostitution.

He revealed that a combined team of Surveillance stormed the hotel ‘Big Dafe Hotel’ by Ughelli/Patani Road, and arrested one Chioma Edafe aged 36yrs of Umuogbezea Community in Imo State who runs the hotel and Thirty-Five others among which twenty-three are all teenagers.

SP Bright Edafe went further to state that the command had earlier received a credible information on the activities of one Chinyere(surname unknown)who specializes in trafficking women from the East,brings them to Ughelli Delta state for prostitution, noting that further intelligence revealed that she lures them by telling them that they are coming to Delta state to work as sales girls in a restaurant.

He said,”The Commissioner of Police Delta State CP Abaniwonda Olufemi who has zero tolerance for human/child trafficking detailed the DPO Ekpan CSP Aliyu Shaba to immediately work on the gathered intelligence and ensure that the hotel is located and the suspect arrested. Consequently, on 15/07/2024 at about 1900hrs, one of the victims (name withheld) was located and she revealed the illegal activities of the said suspect Chinyere ‘f’ surname unknown currently at large.”

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested three suspects,Tega Dieruaba aged 44years from Ororokpe Community in Okpe LGA,Chibuike Anuforo Cosmas aged 42years from Nkwerre LGA of lmo state and Sunday Moses aged 36years from Von community in Jos South LGA Plateau state, over alleged gun manufacturing and supply in the state.

The Commissioner Of Police in the state,CP Olufemi Abaniwonda while parading the suspects at the police headquarters, stated that the suspects were members of a syndicate specialising in distributing and supplying of fabricating guns.

Narrating how the suspects were arrested by the police, Abaniwonda noted that during a sting operation by the intensive intelligence operatives led by by ASP Julius Robinson following credible intelligence led investigation on CP’s special assignment with base in Ughelli related to the earlier recovery of a fabricated AK 47 revolver rifle recovered on the 8th of June 2024 arrested the trio and that upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime,as earlier confessed by one Godluck Sakutu of Ekpan community Uvwie LGA Delta state who was earlier arrested.

He said,”Following an intensive intelligence-led investigation by operatives on CP’s special assignment with base in Ughelli related to the earlier recovery of a fabricated AK 47 revolver rifle recovered on 8th of June 2024. The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Police Inspector Aminu Muhammed and his gang for alleged armed robbery in the state

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Kogi State Police Command, SP William Ayah, who confirmed the arrest to Newsmen on Tuesday, said the Police Officer has been arrested and is already in detention.

It was gathered that he robbed the residences of those living around the Police ‘C’ Division in Lokoja, the state capital.

According to the source, he was arrested last Sunday after a robbery incident, and further checks revealed he has been involved in several similar cases in the past.

Luck, however, ran out of him this time following the escapades of a notorious gang of armed robbers who specialise in robbing houses of household items and cars.

The source further confirmed that one of the cars he allegedly stole was found in the workshop of a panel beater, *Arome Moses* who was already working on changing the car’s colour at Ochadamu near Anyigba in the State.

Those who knew the vehicle and were aware of the robbery incident that occurred in the owner’s house on June 14, 2024, quickly raised alarm upon sighting the car.

The car’s plate number had already been changed to an
Abuja number just as a car dealer’s receipt, backdated to 2020, was presented by the Officer as his evidence of purchasing it.

It was gathered that the panel beater had primed the car prior to changing its colour before the alarm was raised.

After raising the alarm, personnel of the Quick Response Unit (QRU) attached to the Police Area Command, Idah, were quickly invited, and the panel beater was apprehended.

Upon reaching the ‘A’ Division in Lokoja, where the QRU took the apprehended panel beater to, it was found that the criminals who committed the robbery had already been arrested for the another crime.

One of the members of the gang of armed robbers, who had also been on the Police Wanted List for other crimes, confessed to the commission of the robbery and named the Police Officer as the mastermind.

He confessed that they were contracted to rob the house of the owner of the car for the sole purpose of getting the car for him.

Other sources from the Police Officer’s village, Akpakidigbo, revealed that he has brought uncountable numbers of cars to his palatial mansion in the village in the past, thereby raising suspicions over his source of income and leading to the conclusion that he has been thriving on the proceeds of crime.

The community is accordingly waiting to see the outcome of the matter, pointing out that the State Government under His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has been ensuring adequate security for the State.

They are, however, worried that the involvement of the Police Officer in robbing citizens and residents of the State is already sending the wrong signal and may truncate the government’s efforts at providing security.

They are therefore angling for justice to be done in this matter as a deterrent to others.

Similarly, sources close to the Police Headquarters in the State disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in the State has personally picked interest in the matter, having earlier vowed not to condone any act that will tarnish the image of the force.

However, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Ayah, said that the Commissioner of Police, CP Bertrand Onuoha, has ordered a thorough investigation before the next line of action can be taken over the alleged misconduct.

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have uncovered and intercepted various quantities of cocaine and opioids such as tramadol, pentazocine injection, morphine sulphate, ketamine injection, among others concealed in soles of shoes, clothes and other items being shipped to the United States, United Kingdom and Cyprus.

Disclosing this in a statement on Sunday, Femi Babafemi, who shared videos of the seized contraband on X on Sunday, stated that tramadol pills were found concealed in custard containers in a separate discovery.
According to him,”NDLEA operatives in Edo state on Wednesday 10th July 2024 intercepted a vehicle marked Abuja GWA 273 DD at Ewu junction, Esan Central LGA following credible intelligence. The luggage of one of the occupants, Aminu Abdullahi, 32, was searched and found to contain custard containers, where 3,000 pills of tramadol 225mg were buried in the custard powder. In his statement, the suspect claimed the drugs were bought in Onitsha, Anambra state and he was taking them to Mararaba area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja to sell.”

“In another operation, operatives on Thursday 11th July raided the Ohen forest, Abudu area of Edo and destroyed 5,429.751kg of cannabis on 2.918 hectares of farmlands where four suspects: Godday Ariye, 37; Friday Okafor, 59; Obinna Nwosu, 48; and Yusuf Adamu, 27, were arrested. Similarly, 300 kilograms of the same substance were recovered from Uzzeba Obi camp in Owan West LGA when NDLEA officers raided the location on Saturday 13th July.”

“In Ogun state, operatives on Tuesday 9th July, recovered a total of 2,865 kilograms of cannabis at Afami Ibese while the suspected owner, Umar Ibese is currently at large. At least, 2,455 kilograms of materials for the production of Akuskura, a new psychoactive substance (NPS), were recovered from a warehouse in Konduga town, Konduga LGA, Borno state on Tuesday 9th July when NDLEA operatives in a joint operation with men of the Nigerian Army raided the area. The following day, Wednesday 10th July, operatives in Katsina state arrested a 54-year-old Sabo Sule with 47kg cannabis in Katsina town.$

“In Lagos, operatives on Monday 8th July raided a warehouse in VGC, Lekki where they recovered 148 cartons of non-medical nitrous oxide popularly called laughing gas; 108 cartons of fast gas cylinder; 134 pieces of balloon and 109 cartons of infusion charger, among others. A female suspect, Suliyat Abdulsalam was arrested in connection with the seizure.”he submitted.

He warned travellers to be cautious when accepting luggage or items from others to deliver, as they may be unaware of the contents.

Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA,Brig.Gen.Mohamed Buba Marwa(Rtd) who commended the officers and men of Edo, Borno, Ogun, Katsina, Lagos, and FCT Commands as well as those of DOGI for the arrests and seizures noted their drug supply reduction efforts balanced with WADA sensitization activities while he charged them and their compatriots across the country to maintain the current tempo.

The officer who was alleged to have had carnal knowledge of a 17year old girl in his office at Ojota Police Station has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command.

The Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) simply identified as Owolabi,was arrested following the order by the Commissioner of Police Lagos state,Adegoke Fayoade

His arrest followed a referral letter dated July 1, 2024, and addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, by the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency.

Investigator news gathered that based on the referral letter, the Commissioner of Police ordered for immediate investigation into the matter.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the arrest said the Command has placed under arrest one of its personnel accused of defiling a 17-year old girl.

Hundeyin, on his X handle said the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, has also, directed a full-scale and thorough investigation into the allegation.

“The Command assures the public that there is absolutely no attempt at a cover-up as such hideous acts are at variance with the code of conduct and professional ethics of the Nigeria Police Force.

“To this end, CP Fayoade once again assures Nigerians that the officer would be dealt with in accordance with police regulations and the law if found culpable” he said

It will be recalled that the mother of the victim, Mrs Aramide Olupona, who had accused the Police of cover up, alleging that her daughter began bleeding a day following the assault she suffered in the hands of the officer was taken to the Mirabel Centre, where it was confirmed that her daughter had been defiled.

The Delta State Police Command has neutralised a suspected kidnapper in a gun duel during which three others were arrested and are presently in police custody.

In a release signed by the image maker of the command,SP Edafe Bright noted that a special operative team deployed to Ughelli led by ASP Julius Robinson stormed the area and engaged the kidnappers in a gun duel, murdered one in cold blood and recovered one Ak-49 rifle .

The statement disclosed that the police team, acting on credible intelligence gathered over a period and an in-depth technical intelligence related to the kidnapping of one male victim (name withheld) kidnapped on 17th May 2024 at his residence in the Adjakota area in Ughelli South LGA of Delta State and later murdered by the kidnappers, cracked down the deadly kidnapping syndicate responsible for the act.

 

SP Edafe went further to state that CP Abaniwonda Olufemi on resumption of duty frowned at the incessant kidnapping in Ughelli axis and other parts of Delta state, changed the security architecture and deployed a new divisional police officer with a clear mandate to flush out kidnappers in the area.

According to him,this proactive measure taken by the CP has been paying off and is still paying off as the special team has again cracked a gang of four suspected kidnappers in Ughelli.

The Police in Rivers State Command  have raised an alarm over possible mass secret cult initiation nationwide.

A spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.

Titled, ‘Planned Cult Celebration By The Neo Black Movement, Aka Aiye Or Black Axe,’ Iringe-Koko alerted the public to the alleged planned mass Founder’s Day celebration of the suspected cult group which is believed to be planned for Sunday, 7th July.

“The event, code-named AIYE Day or 7/7 is meant to be observed in all states of the federation, especially in higher institutions of learning,” the statement read.

“The Command is aware of the antecedents of the Neo-Black movement, notorious for killings on campuses, inter-cult clashes and excessive violent conduct among other criminal actions.

“We estimate that the annual AIYE DAY celebration will likely be held in the cult group’s dens and strongholds, especially in tertiary campuses nationwide.
