    95 members of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House have expressed interest in becoming the next Awujale of Ijebuland. Otunba Jadiara, Lateef Owoyemi, Olori Ebi of Fusengbuwa Ruling House, announced this at a Nomination Meeting in Ijebu Ode.

    The Olori Ebi of Fusengbuwa Ruling House who is also Otunba Jadiara, Lateef Owoyemi disclosed this today at the commencement of Nomination Meeting of the  held at Bisi Rodipe Hall, GRA , Ijebu Ode.

    Other leaders of the Ruling House at the meeting included Deputy Olori Ebi, Otunba Ajidagba, Chairman, Chief Fassy Yusuf among others.

    Otunba Owoyemi, who is a former ICAN President, told the meeting that the names of those who scaled the first hurdle would be forwarded to the Afobajes.

    He said the Afobajes would pick one of the candidates as the next Awujale and forward his name to the Ogun State Government.

    He those in disagreement with the exercise can channel their grievances to the government.

    President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday attended the Grand Finale of the week-long 2025 Eyo Festival, in a white robe, a damask sash slung over his shoulder, and a distinctive hat emblazoned with bold, decorative stars.

    Like other revellers, the President also carried a long staff called an opambata.

    The colourful event, held at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos, began with paying homage and presenting the festival staff to the President at his Lagos residence on Sunday, December 21.

    The Eyo Festival, which dates back to 1854, was held this year for the first time in eight years. The 2025 edition honoured four distinguished Lagos personalities, a departure from the usual practice of celebrating one or three individuals.

     

    The honourees are: the first military administrator of Lagos State, Mobolaji Johnson; the first civilian governor, Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande; a former civilian governor, Sir Michael Otedola; and a former Iyaloja and mother of the current President, Alhaja Abibat Mogaji.

    The carnival showcases the deep cultural history and heritage of Lagos, with various Yoruba families participating in regalia, dance, unity, and peace.

    President Tinubu, in a message sent to the organisers, described the carnival as “a great rekindling of our culture”.

    “The Eyo Festival is a vibrant expression of the rich traditions of Lagos. It celebrates the achievements, outstanding contributions, and exemplary lives of distinguished Nigerians—not only eminent Lagosians.

    He added that all the honorees deserved the recognition. “They were leaders and builders whose visionary leadership, influence, and diligence in public service helped nurture Lagos State to both national and international prominence”.

    The President also noted the festival’s timing, which coincides with Detty December, a period when Lagos welcomes thousands of Nigerians from the diaspora and foreign visitors.

    “It is a reminder that our culture and traditions hold great tourism potential. Indeed, our cultural assets can serve as valuable resources for destination promotion.

    The glamour of white-robed figures parading our streets in celebration of distinguished Lagosians sends a resounding message about our identity and our country”.

    President Tinubu encouraged all revellers to celebrate peacefully and ensure the safety of all participants.

    In his welcome address, the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, described the event as not only historic for the President but also a homecoming.

    “What we’re celebrating here today is the first of its kind. As our son, our father, we are seated with the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to witness a history of the cultural heritage of Lagos.

    “Mr President, it is not just a coincidence; it is history in your lifetime that is being put in place today.

    “We honour you, give God the glory for your life, and we are indeed excited that God Almighty can bring you and most of your people to come and celebrate the best of the cultural heritage of Lagos,” he said.

    Governor Sanwo-Olu commended the traditional institutions under the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, for their exemplary leadership in reviving the festival.

    “Today, we gather on this historic ground at the Tafawa Balewa Square, wrapped in the timeless majesty of the Eyo Festival, the sacred Adamu Orisha Play.

    “After an eight-year interval, this revered tradition returns to Lagos in full splendour, standing as a powerful affirmation of our identity, our resilience, and unbroken connection to our history.

    “The Eyo Festival is far more than a pageantry. It is a living archive of our Yoruba heritage and a symbol of unity, a symbol of purity and the communal strength of Lagos.”

    The governor assured his audience that his administration will continue to advance the state’s socio-economic trajectory without abandoning its cultural roots. He said his administration will maximise the festival’s potential as it projects Lagos onto the global stage.

    Dignitaries at the celebration included the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma; Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; members of the diplomatic corps; and senior officials of the federal and Lagos State governments, among others.

    The event, featuring cultural performances, traditional dances, indigenous music and chants, and a procession of Eyo groups, concluded with special prayers for the President and the country.

Seyi Jakande,received accolades at the annual Eyo Adamu Òrìṣà Festival held at the Tafewa Balewa Square in Lagos for carrying on the legacy of his father, the late Alhaji Lateef Jakande, Nigeria’s first civilian Governor of Lagos State.

     

    The festival celebrated individuals who have advanced Lagos State’s growth and development, with special tribute to Alhaji Lateef Jakande’s contributions to governance and nation-building and Seyi Jakande was praised for embodying his father’s ideals of equity, discipline, and service to the masses.

    Speakers and dignitaries at the event praised his commitment to equity, discipline, and service to the masses, highlighting his purposeful leadership and dedication to cultural preservation.

    The Association of Tourism Practitioners of Nigeria (ATPN) has announced that Lagos will host its 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM).

    The decision was made by the National Executive Council (NEC) following a majority vote in favor of hosting the event in the South West Region.

    According to Dr. Piriye Kiriyamo, National Publicity Secretary, ATPN,the AGM is expected to bring together tourism stakeholders,industry experts, and dignitaries from across the country.

    He stated that Lagos was unanimously chosen as the host city, with the aim of garnering national support for the upcoming South West International Tourism Expo (SWITEX 2025), scheduled to take place on December 5th and 6th.

    Investigator news reports that the AGM is expected to bring together tourism stakeholders, industry experts, and dignitaries from across the country.

    The Igbo community in Mushin, Lagos, came alive on November 8, 2025, as Onyeisi Ndigbo 1 Na’ Mushin,Eze Ambassador Dr.Peter Umeh(JP),celebrated the 2025 Cultural/New Yam Festival, and launching of Almanac in grand style.

    Eze Ambassador Dr. Peter Umeh, led the celebrations, which featured prayers, conferment of Chieftaincy titles, cultural dances, masquerade displays, and free medical services.

    The ceremony was attended by prominent Ndieze Ndigbo, including Eze Ndigbo in Ikeja, Eze Uche Dimgba, Eze Ndigbo in Oshodi, Eze Ruben Ezeibeakanma,Eze Augustine Sunday Ojukwu,Eze Ndigbo in Amuwo Odofin,Eze Anosike Tony,Eze Ndigbo in Onigboigbo,Eze John Greg Ezediabu,Eze Emenike Okpaga,Eze Ndigbo in Buknor,Eze Udenmba of Ezinifite,Eze Ndigbo of Iba Land,Eze Ndigbo Isolo, Eze Ikem Agbasi,Ichie Anselm Njoku,Chief Chris Ekwilo,Prince Andy Moore Ezejioha,Mr.Okechukwu Elota,many Igbo sons and daughters including non indigenes, friends and well wishers to celebrate the new season of bountiful harvest and thanks to God almighty for the gift of life.

    Chief Henry Chinonso Anagwu said that his recognition would spur him to expand his humanitarian efforts, particularly towards supporting vulnerable members of the community.

    Chief Chinedu Ugoagu( Eze Chiwubelu)said he is full of thanks to Eze Peter Umeh for giving him the recognition, stating that he would continue to assist the needy in his little capacity.

    Speaking with newsmen after the occasion,Eze Peter Umeh,(Eze Chimereze)urge the Igbo community to respect the cultures and traditions of their host communities while supporting the Lagos State Government and promoting peaceful co existence.

    The United Nation Peace Ambassador applauded the administration of Hon Aruwe, Executive Chairman Mushin LGA for the good job he has done within his 100 days in office as he has placed infrastructure as one of his priorities.

    While highlighting the essence of the free medical care during the new yam celebration,he opined that the reason for his existence here on earth is to transform and assist the less privileged in the society.

    Eze Sunday Augustine Ojukwu(Eze Udo II),the Eze Ndigbo of Amuwo Odofin Community, Lagos State celebrated his New Yam Festival in grand style at the Trade Fair Motel in Lagos.

    The event which took place on Friday 24, October 2025 was a festival which showcased the cutting and eating of yams and a rich tapestry of cultural performances,such as traditional music, masquerade performances,the energetic Chinese Lion dance and the Waist drum dance, among other captivating performances.

    The festival was a testament to the rich cultural heritage of the Igbo people, and it brought together members of the community including the yoruba and Hausa community to celebrate and pay homage to the monarch.

    As part of the celebration,Eze Ojukwu, in collaboration with the Chinese community in Lagos, presented food items and cash awards of N300,000 each to ten individuals.

    The gesture was widely applauded, with many expressing gratitude to the monarch for his generosity and commitment to promoting the welfare of his people.

    The chairman went further to commend Eze Sunday Augustine Ojukwu for his leadership and steadfastness in sustaining the age-long cultural practice “that serves as a rallying point for our people”.

    “It reinforced my conviction that our cultural and traditional heritage remains a vital pillar for communal harmony and sustainability, which informed our insistence as a government never to allow our cultural practices to be used as covers for criminality,” he added.

    Chief Elechukwu urged other community leaders to continue preserving and promoting the Igbo cultural heritage in ways that truly reflect its essence and enduring significance.

    Speaking with newsmen, one of the Chiefs in the yoruba community, Chief Mustapha Adisa Thompson applauded Eze Ojukwu for preserving the cultural heritage of the new yam festival, while appealing to Igbos to always unite and live in peace with the yoruba community in Lagos.

    He described the Igbos as hardworking and dedicated personalities who always promote and develop the community they found themselves.

    He also used the occasion to urge his people to continue to work hard and strive for excellence in all areas of their lives. The monarch’s message was well-received by the guests, who left the event feeling inspired and motivated

    Lending his voice, Prince Chidi Iwuanyanwu noted that Ndigbo has the best culture typically the celebration of New Yam festival, which he described as unique and is being celebrated all over the world by Ndigbo.

    He commended Eze Ojukwu for his passion and compassion to touch lives and humanity through his philanthropic gesture over the years.

    Chairman Ohaneze Ndigbo Lagos State, Oto-Awori Chapter, Chief Emmanuel Ubah commended Eze Ojukwu for his efforts in touching lives and humanity.

    He called on other Igbo traditional leaders to emulate him while noting that Ojukwu has been an aggressive giver over the years.

    Also Speaking with newsmen,Eze Ojukwu called for peace in Lagos State and urge Ndigbo to always respect the culture and traditions of the host community and continue to support the Lagos State Government in all ramification.

    He also used the occasion to urge his people to continue to work hard and strive for excellence in all areas of their lives.

    The Chairman Council of Ndieze Lagos State, Eze Ambassador Dr Chika .C.Nwokedi, has called on the Igbo community to be ambassadors of peace wherever they find themselves.

    According to him,promoting peace and harmony is essential for the growth and development of the nation.

    He gave this charge when presenting Chieftaincy Certificate to some distinguished individuals who were given Chieftaincy titles during the new yam festival.

    Eze Nwokedi,Okpoko 1 of Obodoukwu emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence and urged Ndigbo to promote unity and understanding among themselves and with other communities.

    He advised the new Chiefs to be a good ambassador to their family and the society at large,noting that every Igbo has a reputation for resilience and hard work, and that these values should be complemented by a commitment to peace and harmony.

    Eze Nwokedi who is also the Eze Ndigbo of Ijegun and Ijedodo community urged Ndigbo to be mindful of their actions and conduct themselves in a manner that would promotes peace and understanding.

    “To the new Chiefs that were honoured during the new yam festival held last month, my advice to them and the Igbo community at large is for them to be good ambassadors to their family and the community at large”

    “They were honoured because of what they have done and lives they have impacted, therefore wherever they found themselves let them stand for the truth and respect the rules and regulations guiding the land where we are”

    “My prayers for Ndigbo is that whatever they lay their hands to do,God will continually protect and bless them and to the new Chiefs,the honor given to them would not bring shame and disgrace, rather it will attract more honor and we shall all eat the fruit of this land” he said.

    Eze C.C. Nwokedi went further to appreciate members of his cabinet in ensuring that Ndigbo within and outside Ijegun and Ijedodo community live in peace and harmony with the yoruba community, urging them to shun whatsoever that would cause chaos in the society.

    “Let me use this opportunity to thank members of my cabinet for promoting peace and harmony, also my sincere appreciation goes to those who supported us during the new yam festival,my God will replenish their pockets and we will all live to see next year in Jesus name”he submitted.

    Speaking with newsmen,Nze Collins Nwosu(Onowu Obi Udo)applauded Eze Ambassador Nwokedi for finding him worthy and recognizing him with a chieftaincy title.

    He noted that with the certificate being presented to him,he would ensure that peace and unity remains his watchword and would contribute to the growth and development of Ndigbo in Lagos State.

    Lending her voice,Hon Chief Mrs Elizabeth Nwakata(Akwa Ugo Nwanyi Lagos) promised to continually support the less privileged,widows and empower the women.

    She thanked Eze Nwokedi for the opportunity and honor, while assuring him of her unalloyed support to growth of Ndigbo in Lagos State.

    It was a day of joy, celebration and thanksgiving to God for bountiful harvest  on Saturday 4, October 2025 during the new yam festival,otherwise known as Iwa ji,organized by Eze Ndigbo of Mainland,HRH Eze Ambassador (Sir) Godwin Chukwubuna Njubigbo JP so as to usher in the new season.

    The Igbo new yam festival which is an annual occasion of offering and celebrating immense thanks to God almighty for making the farm yields possible as well as offering for even a better harvest in the subsequent planting season, witnessed a large numbers of the Igbo speaking community,yoruba and Hausa community as well as the China community.

    The Kudirat Abiola play ground (Evans Square)Ebutte Metta Lagos,venue of the event, was literally shut as huge crowd made their way to the venue  to behold a cultural spectacle and catch some fun usually experienced once in a year.

    Investigator news reports that the event was simply a display of glamour and celebration of Igbo rich cultural heritage.The peaceful ambience that surrounded his royal palace,the harmless presence of security personnel who mounted surveillance at the junction and the joy on the faces of Ndigbo and non indigenes living in Mainland served as a pointer that Eze Godwin Njubigbo is a man of peace,loved and mostly revered not just by Ndigbo but the yoruba and hausa community

    There was heavy drumming, singing, trumpeting and breathtaking dance steps by cultural dancers who thrilled guests who had seated before the arrival of the dignitaries.The weather was clement as the sun shone brightly out of the azure sky.

    The event started with prayers at the palace of Eze Njubigbo (Ezedioranma)for peace and progress of the nation and continuous peaceful coexistence of Ndigbo in Lagos State, thereafter a procession to the venue followed where Eze Njubigbo was accompanied by other Eze Ndigbo from other part of the state.

    In his welcome address,Eze Ambassador Sir Godwin Chukwubuna Njubigbo said the Igbo new yam festival is a cherished culture of ndi Igbo, stating that our relationship with God which our forefathers has already established should not be discarded because of modernism.

    He, however, urged the youths at all times protect, project, and promote the origin of the Igbo man and their traditions, while calling them to shun drugs and other social vices.

    The monarch commended members of his royal cabinet,members of the Igbo speaking community, Ohaneze Ndigbo,men, youths and women for turning out in large number to attend the 2025 new yam festival.

    Speaking with newsmen, Ezedioranma after performing the usual ritual of cutting the new yam, he expressed gratitude to God for making a bountiful harvest after the planting season. He also prayed God to aid the Igbos to sustain their rich cultural heritage and values.

    Ezedioranma noted that the new yam festival or Iri ji is one of the significant cultural events in Igbo land. He added that the event provides the Igbo  man the opportunity to thank God for bumper harvest in yam and other farm varieties.

    The United Nation Peace Ambassador used the occasion to urge his subjects to promote harmony and peaceful coexistence, emphasizing that unity is essential for progress and development.

    He said,” Peace is my hobby,I have lived in the community for over 40years and I can tell you for free that the Igbos and non Ndigbo have relatively live in peace, therefore I want to urge my people to always live in peace with their host community so that more development and progress can come to them.”

    He called on Nigerians to always pray for the leaders, stating that Nigeria would get better .”As we gather to celebrate today, peace and celebration of good things will be the portion of Ndigbo in particular and Nigerians in general.”he submitted.

    Lending her voice, Ugoeze Ambassador Ngozi Njubigbo JP called on Igbos to embrace peace as it promotes peace and harmony which Igbos are know for.

    She also called on parents to always teach their children the Igbo culture and traditioons so that they won’t forget their roots.

    The Onowu of Mainland,High Chief Edwin Nwosu,Chidalu Igbo stated that new yam showcases the heritage of Igbo-speaking community, noting that the new yam festival has brought different Igbo groups together to unite because according to him,Eze Njubigbo is a man of peace.

    One of the special guest at the occasion,High Chief Royal Ifechukwu Asonya describe the new yam as one of the most precious crop Ndigbo adorns and respect.

    He went out to point out that new yam is a symbol of unity that unifies every Igbo man, noting that in Igbo land no man would eat the new yam except they thank God almighty for making them to be alive so as to witness the new yam festival after planting

    High Chief Royal called on Ndigbo to unite and speak with one voice so that progress will continue to follow Ndigbo living in Lagos, while praying for Eze Njubigbo for long life, wisdom and understanding ,he eulogise the Eze Njubigbo for showing exemplary leadership, charming and endearing personality, and also elevating the culture and traditions of Ndigbo living in Lagos State.

    Speaking with investigator news,an Erudite Professor , Professor Friday Nwankwo said that culture is what makes people to be known in the society.He enjoined every Nigerian to embrace unity for peace and harmony to reign in our country.

    Chief Stella Ntanta,Ezinne na Lagos Mainland  enjoined parents to teach their children the culture, traditions of their forefathers so that Igbo language won’t go into instinction as predicted  in 2030.

    Chief Ubah Emmanuel, (Otunba Ojoto), chairman Ohaneze Ndigbo Lagos State noted that the Igbo exhibit the spirit of oneness and unity which Nigeria needs by making anywhere they find themselves their homes and contribute immensely to the socio-economic and political development of their host communities.

    He enjoined every Nigerian to embrace unity for peace and harmony to reign in our country.

    The monarch’s palace was filled with merriment and joy as guests and well-wishers gathered to pay homage to the royal father.
