Tier-one lender, Fidelity Bank Plc, has reaffirmed its commitment to community development and educational empowerment with the donation of essential learning materials to schoolchildren in Makoko Community, Yaba, Lagos under its Fidelity Helping Hands Program (FHHP).
The outreach, which was facilitated by the bank’s Legal Services Division, saw the presentation of school bags, notebooks, mathematical sets, writing materials, and other learning materials to pupils of Makoko Anglican Nursery and Primary School; Aiyetoro Nursery and Primary School, and Adekunle Anglican Nursery and Primary School in Lagos.
Speaking during the presentation, Divisional Head of Legal Services, Fidelity Bank Plc, Kingsley Ohiri, explained that the gesture forms part of Fidelity Bank’s broader CSR initiatives centered on empowering young people, supporting education, and enhancing social welfare in vulnerable communities.
“The Fidelity Helping Hands Program is our staff volunteer program that enables employees to identify and execute impactful CSR projects,” he said.
“Through this program, staff volunteers from the Legal Services Division are here today in Makoko to distribute back-to-school materials such as school bags, notebooks, pencils and other essential learning tools. This aligns strongly with one of our CSR pillars: education.”
Ohiri further emphasized the bank’s focus on improving access to quality education for children in public schools, especially those from indigent backgrounds.

The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) has added several Nigerian-origin words to its latest update, showcasing the country’s growing influence on global language and culture.
The December 2025 update features over 500 new words, phrases, and tenses, including “mammy market”, “nyash”, “amala”, “moi moi”, “abeg”, “biko”, and “Ghana Must Go”.
These additions reflect Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage, with words like “amala” (a staple food made from yam or cassava flour) and “moi moi” (a dish originating from the Yoruba people) highlighting the country’s cuisine. “Nyash” refers to a person’s buttocks, while “abeg” is an interjection used to express surprise or exasperation.
The OED also recognized “Afrobeats”, a music style that blends West African rhythms with jazz, soul, and funk.
Other Nigerian words added include “japa”, “agbero”, “eba”, and “419”, which refers to internet fraud.
Investigator news reports that this update is a testament to the growing global influence of Nigerian English, Pidgin, and street slang.
The latest addition also included “Ghana Must Go”, the popular name for the large, chequered plastic bags widely used in West Africa, whose expression traces back to the 1983 mass expulsion of undocumented Ghanaian migrants from Nigeria.

The Executive Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Seyi Jakande, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to education, security, and community development at a bursary and community support disbursement event.
The event, held at the Council Hall on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, saw the distribution of N50,000 bursary support to 250 tertiary students and financial support to security operatives and teachers(both pensionable and non pensionable)within the LCDA.

The library, a flagship project of the Rachisols Foundation, was officially unveiled on Saturday, November 29, marking a significant milestone in the pursuit of educational excellence and community progress.
Hon. Jakande who was represented by his Vice Chairman Hon. Niyi Awodogan, emphasized the importance of accessible learning spaces in shaping a prosperous community, stating that the renovated library is a sanctuary for the mind, a catalyst for innovation, and a cornerstone for community growth.
“Today is not just about reopening a library; it is about reopening the doors of opportunity for our children, our youth, and every resident of Ilupeju,” Hon. Jakande stated.
