    The Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim has reiterated the ministry’s commitment to sustaining the rehabilitation of the Chibok girls, commending their impressive performance at the American University of Nigeria (AUN)

    Speaking during her visit to the American University AUN in Yola, Adamawa State, where 68 survivors are undergoing rehabilitation, the Minister highlighted their strength in the face of unimaginable challenges.

    The minister stated that the visit aims to evaluate the progress and success of the girls in partnership with AUN.

    “I want to assure you that everybody here is important and your voice will be heard. And we’ll work together to ensure that not just only you, not just the empowered women of Chibok, but everybody that wants to contribute will be able to reach their full potential and support the emergence of the Nigeria World Dream”

    “The welfare and well-being of every citizen is a top priority for the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

    For the first time, we’re seeing an almost 1,000 percent rise in our budget. It means we can do more for women and for children and for families and for the vulnerable in Nigeria.

    You all have done so well for yourselves; it is one thing for people to experience life. “It is another thing for people to have the bounce back ability to be able to rise above it. Life happens. Life happens.

    “It can happen to anybody. Some people just go to bed, and when they wake up, they don’t have a house because of a flood, she said.

    On his part, the President of the University, Prof. DeWayne Frazier, described the girls as the most intelligent and strong women, saying that the institution is proud to raise them here in Adamawa state.

    He said: They have adapted so much to the environment. They are also doing well in their field of study. They have worked hard and overcame a lot.

    The Chibok girls were among those kidnapped by Boko Haram insurgents from the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok, Borno, in 2014.

    The Dean, College’s of Engineering and Technology, Lagos State University of Science and Technology, Engr. Dr. Yakub Bankole, has organised a 2-day workshop training to build Engineering and technology competence in Nigeria made Africa as a whole.

    The workshop, held at LASUSTECH Ikorodu Campus in Lagos and themed “Enhancing Engineering Education Through Research Methods and Design, Thinking For Industrial Development”, was sponsored by Royal Academy of Engineering, United Kingdom.

    Speaking about the workshop, Engr. Bankole said the training was put in place to enhance engineering and technology development in the Sub-Shara Africa through the Engineering Education.

    According to him, after the workshop, the students and all other participants would have understanding of relevance of research method and design, thinking towards industrial development, gain insight into integrating these approaches into academic project, learn about tools and techniques for effective problem-solving and innovation, and also be inspired to explore the real-world industrial challenges through research and design thinking.

    “The workshop was supported by the Royal Academy of Engineering, United Kingdom. The Academy has been a mover for the development of engineering education in the Sub-Sahara Africa as a whole. What they’ve been doing is that they invest through grants to allow people work to develop the engineering research for industrial development in the continent for engineering optimisation. This workshop is aimed at developing the grassroots for the youths who have interest in engineering. This is targeted towards the development of industry in the Sub-Sahara Africa.

    “We are trying to bridge the gap between the school and the industry by preparing the students for the industrial challenges right from the university. You will notice that in abroad, many of these departments in the university are owned and or sponsored by industries. The industries have their equipment in the departments for the training of the students.

    “This workshop is to prepare the minds of our students towards solving industrial problems and do meaning things for the nation, they are the solution providers.”

    He said the training would continue as the participants are still going for hackathon, where students from three universities in Nigeria including LASUSTECH, UNICAL, and Tarawa Balewa University would gather for further training as some of them would go for global training soon.

    In her paper presentation, the Vice President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Dr. Felicia Agubata, urged the students to be up and doing and make sure they gain the relevant industrial experience while in school.

    Talking about the anticipated challenges in industry and preparation for the challenges ahead, she admonished the students and participants to think outside the box by having vision for the future.

    Agubata, who noted that many lecturers do not have connection with industry machines, raised concern over the outdated curricula in the university education system.

    She urged the university managements in universities across the country to support research and encourage engineering education for industrial development in Nigeria.

    She also urged the governments to release fund for the development of research that would facilitate industrial revolution.

    According to her, there is funding for research and technology but the funds are not properly channeled to the right places.

    She noted that there is disconnect between what the students learn in school and the real industry as many of them see some of the machines first during their IT in the industry.

    She, therefore, canvassed for collaboration between the university and the industry, while calling for commercialisation of the research results in the university.

    Other guest lecturers at the 2-day workshop include Prof. D. S. Ogunniyi, Engr. Dr. Adekunle Yekinni, Engr. Oluwaswgun Akadiri, Dr. Abolaji Olusola, Engr. Dr. Lukman Animashaun all of LASUSTECH, and Engr. Bashiru Muhammad, who promises that his company would support new project developed by the students within the university.

    The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the cost implication for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE).

    In a post on its X account on Wednesday, the board disclosed that the cost implication for UTME with mock is N8,700 while UTME without mock is N7,200.

    The board has also introduced a mock trial for future candidates which will cost N3,500 to register. The registration for DE has been pegged at N5,700.

    “Cost implication for the 2025 UTME/DE Registration is as stated below: 1. UTME with Mock-₦8,700, 2. UTME without Mock-₦7, 200, 3. Mock Trial Testing for Future Candidates-₦3, 500, 4. DE-₦5, 700,” JAMB posted on its X account.

    According to the board, the breakdown is as follows: UTME/DE application fee- “₦3,500, Reading Text,- ₦1,000, CBT centre registration service charge- ₦700, CBT Centre UTME service charge-₦1,500, CBT Mock service charge- ₦1,500, Bank charges- ₦500, CBT Mock-UTME centre service charge- ₦1,500.”

    The Lagos-based board also announced that the 2025 UTME registration exercise will commence on January 31, and ends on March 8, 2025 at its accredited CBT centres across the country.

    Investigator news reports that the DE registration which is restricted to its state and zonal offices only will commence on March 10, and ends on April 7, 2025.

    JAMB had earlier said that said it is mandatory for all candidates to provide their National Identification Number (NIN), which will be used to generate a profile.

    “To generate your profile, get your NIN from the NIMC. Use a retrievable phone number that has not been used before on our platform to type NIN in capital letter, leave a space, then, the actual NIN and send to either 55019 or 66019. E.g: NIN 23456789012 send to 55019 or 66019.

    “Please ensure that the phone number you’ll be using belongs to someone very close to you (father or mother, if you’re below 18 years) to make retrieval easier in case of damage or loss of the SIM card.

    “The card is your unique identifier with the Board and must not get lost at any point in time. Peradventure that happens, you should retrieve it as soon as possible because it cannot be replaced thereafter,” the examination board said.

    The 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party,Mr Peter Obi has stated that he is not desperate of becoming Nigeria’s President rather he is so desperate to see Nigeria work because he believes it can work.

    He stated this at the Nexford University‘s convocation ceremony held on Lagos on Saturday 26, January 2025,stating that he is not desperate to rule.

    He said,” People say l am desperate,l laugh whenever l hear this because I am not desperate to be Nigeria’s president but I am desperate to see Nigeria work because l believe it can work”

    The former governor of Anambra State went further to charged Nigerian youths to help ignite the right leadership that the country needs for development.

    Speaking on the theme “Lead the Change, ignite your future”Obi urged the graduates to embrace integrity, character, and service to rebuild the nation in order to address past leadership failures.

    He asserted that Nigeria suffers from a crisis of leadership integrity, with more “yahoo people” in government than on the streets.

    “When we talk about vices, don’t think it’s just the yahoo boys on the streets,the truth is, there are more yahoo people in government than outside,it is because we’ve turned the entire country into a crime scene, with people both inside and outside stealing.”

    “All of this is to inspire you to ignite the change and provide support, it’s not about saying,I want to be in charge,I want to do this, or I want to do that but it’s about having a strong character and resisting the temptation to do wrong,”

    “Nigeria’s situation is like allowing drivers who have already reached their destinations to continue steering the vehicle,you cannot let people who have passed their time or reached their destinations drive you. That is what you need to help reignite. Use what you have to help us change the society.he stated

    While commending Nexford University opined that online universities are critical for Nigeria’s educational development as they are alternative to traditional higher education institutions in the country,noting that the establishment of more online universities will enhance the development of Nigeria’s education system.

     Nexford University (NXU), a next-generation online university based in Washington DC, America has graduated a total of 1200 students with seven students awarded for being outstanding in academics and character during its 2024 graduation ceremony.

    Speaking at the event held on Saturday at Landmark Event Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, Fadl Al Tarzi, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NXU commended the graduating students for their quest for knowledge and skills to compete globally.

    Tarzi who described Nigerian students as resilient said they valued education which has distinguished and placed them higher across the world, urging the 2024 graduates to showcase their superior skills to the world that will change the world

    He said, “We are really proud of our Nigerian students. Nexford will continue to help Nigerian students bridge skill gap to be able to fit into the real world job market place globally.

    “We are excited that over 75 per cent of our students have achieved their goal of investment with the quality of the education and the value Nexford has afforded them.”

    The keynote speaker,in his address, Mr Peter Obi urged the graduates to influence change for a better society and make meaningful contributions to the economy.

    “You have acquired more than anybody can acquire. If people in other countries go through the experience you pass through here, they won’t even pass. So go out there and influence change in the society that you live in.

    “Don’t go about thinking about only making money. Go check anybody that makes meaningful wealth, they do so by creating value, by giving themselves out to serve the society. It is for you to help solve problems in the society.”he stated.

    Addressing the graduands, Dr Obiageli Ezekwesili, a former Minister of Education, stressed on the need for Nigerian youths to embrace acquisition of the skill set of the modern-day job market.

    Ezekwesili, a board member of NXU, noted that the job market is fast-changing, saying Artificial Intelligence will further revolutionize how work will be done globally.

    “Whosoever you’re we want to see an objective solution that has come from you, because you got the best of skilled education. That’s what we pride ourselves for. This is skilled education that you’ve achieved and it’s the 21st century skilled education.

    “So, solve a problem and let your name be attached to that solution. It will be important. The fact is that when you go before board rooms these days, people don’t care about the certificates you’ve brought. They care about the complex situations that you can fix.”she submitted.

    In her goodwill message,Mrs Bola Adesola,Chairman Eco Bank PLC congratulated the 2024 graduands stating that their success today is at a result of their hard work, determination and resilience, while urging them to lead the desired change and ignite their future by inculcating whatever they have acquired from Nexford University.

    She went further to commend Nexford University for revolutionizing higher education by naming a greater socio and economic mobility across the world.

     

    Speaking to newsmen on the 2024 graduation, the Nexford Country Director, Oghogho Inneh, noted that the graduands emerged from various programs, which include Undergrad – BBA, Post Grad – MBA, MSDT, MSDA and MSE, noting that the MSE was launched last year, with potential to attract more uptakes.

    According to Oghogho, the MBA program (1606) has the most graduates in the class of 2024 followed by the BBA program (141).

    Oghogho said the Class of 2024 represents a dynamic and inspiring cohort of learners from around the world, united by their ambition to excel in their careers and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

    “The class has embraced Nexford’s focus on workplace-relevant skills. Many have already applied their learning to solve real-world challenges in industries such as technology, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and business management,” she added.

    She went further to describe the University as a game changer in higher education bringing online learning to student’s homes and enabling them to earn US degree without leaving their country.

    Also speaking,the former minister for Trade and investment in 2015 and Chairman African Capital Alliance,Dr Okechukwu Enelamah emphasized on the importance of technology in driving societal transformation.

    He noted that Nexford University is one of the global institutions that have visibly given the skills that are necessary for the 21st Century and he is very sure that Nexford would certainly help Nigeria to fix its human capital deficiencies.

    The Commissioner for Innovation, Science & Technology, Lagos State Mr Olatubosun Alake​ commended Nexford University for providing the necessary platform for higher technology outcome in Lagos State,noting that technology can change the economy, little wonder the state government is constituting a number of efforts in ensuring that technology thrives in Lagos State.

    Christopher Chukwuka Otakpor Outstanding Volunteer Award in the BBA, while Kayode Olaitan Owoyemi won the Outstanding Volunteer Award – MBA, for Outstanding Brand Ambassador Awards category, Abdul Shakur Haruna from Ghana was awarded while Christian Arimoku Ebhoma was awarded Outstanding Brand Ambassador – Nigeria and Best Peer Mentor Award goes to Egeneyemi Adetayo

    Meanwhile, with a loud applause, Oluwasegun Anuoluwapo Ogundiran, who finished with an impressive a 4.0 CGPA was awarded as the Valedictorian of the Year for Class 2024.

    ln a press release signed by her Special Assistant on Media and Publicity,Mr Jonathan Eze ,Hon lmaan stated that Prof. Maikudu’s remarkable achievements and dedication to education makes her an exemplary role model for women and girls in Nigeria, stating that her rise through the ranks, from Lecturer II to Professor of International Law, is a testament to her hard work and perseverance.

    The Director General (DG) of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General YD Ahmed, has reassured Corps Members that the disbursement of their newly increased monthly allowance of Seventy-Seven Thousand Naira(N77,000) is set to begin soon.

    The DG gave the reassurance on Tuesday January 7, in Abuja when he commissioned a 32-seater bus donated by Capital Express Insurance Company.

    Ahmed disclosed that arrangements to commence payment of the new minimum wage has been concluded.

    He stated that this development comes as part of ongoing efforts to enhance the welfare of Corps Members across the country.

    This was made known via a statement shared on the commission’s Facebook handle on Tuesday, January 7.

    It reads: “The Director General of National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General YD Ahmed has assured Corps Members that the payment of their new monthly allowance of Seventy-Seven Thousand Naira would soon commence.

    “He stated this today in Abuja when he commissioned a 32-seater bus donated by Capital Express Insurance Company.

    “The Director General said the bus would ease the transportation challenges being experienced by Corps Members and some NYSC Staff within the FCT.

    “General Ahmed who said his administration places high priority on Corps welfare, added that arrangements for the payment of new Corps allowance have been concluded.

    “Speaking further, the Director General expressed appreciation to the Management of Capital Express Insurance for the kind gesture.”he stated

     Polaris Bank, in partnership with key stakeholders, has reaffirmed its commitment to combating the alarming rate of out-of-school children in Nigeria.

    Through its targeted interventions, the Bank has ensured continuous education for over 15,000 students, providing them with the opportunity to learn, thrive, and contribute to a better future.

    While the initiative primarily focuses on empowering the girl child, male students in the targeted schools were not left out reflecting the project’s inclusive approach.

    Polaris Bank’s collaboration with strategic partners has further strengthened its efforts to combat the scourge of out-of-school children in Nigeria. Since 2020, these collaborative efforts have ensured continuous education for 16,000 students, showcasing the transformative impact of teamwork in fostering positive societal change.

    The initiative which includes empowering young learners with brain training techniques and emotional intelligence education alongside making and distributing school essentials (bags, uniforms, sandals, books, and pens) aligns with the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 4 which ensures inclusive and equitable quality education for all, is targeted at Nigeria’s most vulnerable communities, where over 20 million children lack access to basic education, according to UNESCO.

    This phase of the initiative targeted schools across diverse regions of the country, providing needed school essentials such as; school bags, sandals, uniforms, books, and pens to students. Research has shown that the lack of one or two of these basic school essentials has been a significant barrier to school enrolment, contributing to the alarming number of the scourge of out-of-school children in Nigeria.

    Polaris Bank’s Managing Director/CEO, Kayode Lawal speaking on the education initiative charged students to embrace opportunities that education offers saying that the intervention is in line with the Bank’s ongoing sustainability efforts aimed at reducing Nigeria’s current out-of-school children population and increasing access to quality education, especially for the girl-child.

    As part of its broader mission, Polaris Bank between November and December 2024 visited eight schools across various states, including Opebi Junior Grammar School in Lagos, National High School Arondizuogu; Iheme Memorial Secondary School; Akokwa High School in Imo State, Government Girls Secondary School, Kundila in Kano, Fortune Secondary School in Kogi, and Government Day Junior Secondary School, Maitama in Abuja, with that of Gbaja Junior and Secondary School, both in Surulere, Lagos moved to mid January 2025.

    The program aims to support 50,000 students by 2028, building on its current impact of 16,000 students across nine states.

    Beyond the provision of school essentials to indigent students of public schools, the initiative also embeds the Brighter Minds Programme, a transformative project bringing innovative brain-training techniques and emotional intelligence education to young learners.

    This program has achieved remarkable milestones, expanding access to a holistic learning approach that builds resilience, focus, and confidence in students.

    Each pilot group represents a new step in the journey of empowering young minds with life skills, made possible by the unwavering support of Polaris Bank, partners like EvolveCSR, schools, and parents.

    Complementing this educational intervention, is the Inspire Teachers Training Program, a 3-day value-based education initiative aimed at equipping teachers with critical soft skills and alternative teaching methodologies.

    This program explores topics such as heartful teaching, facilitation techniques, heterogeneous learning strategies, effective communication, heart-centered education, self-connection, and moral skill development.

    While the initiative has made significant strides, the final batch of schools to be visited—Gbaja Girls Junior and High Secondary School, Surulere, Lagos — has been postponed to January 2025.     ………..Promises to end 21 years without Electricity

    After twenty-one years of being without electricity, students of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Uli Campus are set to start enjoying power supply, courtesy of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo,even as Uli community will also equally benefit from the intervention when completed.

    This formed part of the commitments of the Governor during his one-day working visit to the campus in Ihiala Local Government Area.

    Governor Soludo said that even though the campus environment is orderly, it needs serious infrastructure upgrade.

    “We have to work out plan to connect power back to Uli and the campus.

    “Uli campus is not forgotten,our party mantra and governing ideology is leave no one behind.”

    “Education is the future and the foundation of Anambra.That is why we are investing in human capital that is productive at home and exportable abroad. We must deliberately invest in qualitative education. Yes! We are paying serious attention to quality.”

    “To do this, we also have the PPCP framework”; the Governor reiterated.

    While stressing the importance of having access to internet, the Governor also promised to provide access to internet and WiFi in public places within the campus, expressing optimism that it will further deepen their access to the digital world.

    “Today’s world is about what you can do, not just the certificate you possess.

    “Digitalisation will give this campus an advantage,we will also begin the gradual construction of the internal roads in the campus.

    He called on the community to make efforts to protect the institution.

    Lending his voice,the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, gave assurance of their unalloyed prayer and support for the Governor who she described as education-friendly.

    The Acting Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Kate Omenugha thanked the Governor for visiting as well as the support he has given to them, including their accreditation.

    “We are developing our strategic vision.

    “There are so many abandoned projects in the campus. If we propel this Uli campus, it’ll translate to the Japan of Africa, “she added.

    Investigator news reports that those who attended the event include the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, Chief Protocol officer, Hon Chinedu Nwoye (Glamour), member representing Ihiala Constituency One at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Barr. Jude Ngobili and his Ihiala Two counterpart, Hon. Chukwuebuka Iloh, Mayor, Ihiala Local Government Area and Anayo Orjiakor, among others.
