Parents in Bariga and Somolu breathed a sigh of relief on Saturday, 7 September 2024,as the new academic year began, thanks to the LiRA Foundation’s generous support.

The foundation’s 5th Annual Welcome Back to School Initiative, was held at the CMS Primary School Compound, Ilaje, Bariga, which provided essential school supplies to over 2,500 pupils and students across Lagos, thereby easing the financial burden on many families.

The event which offered more than just material aid,is fostered on an environment of encouragement and inspiration.

Investigator news reports that the initiative included not only the distribution of school items but also engaging activities like games, dances, and edutainment that brought joy to the children and their parents.

Delivering a motivational talks that resonated with the students. Hephzibah Oluwafolafemi Atilola, a renowned teen motivational speaker and author, shared insights from her book, “Speak Up, Your Voice Will be Heard.”

Other notable speakers included Nkwocha Princess, a young model, and Olori Oluwabukola Saliu, Wife of the Oba Oloworo of Oworo.

 

Investigator news gathered that the initiative’s success was attributed to divine guidance and the unwavering support of key stakeholders,particularly His Excellency Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu,as the event highlights the importance of community involvement in education, with the governor’s backing playing a crucial role.

Highlight of the event was presentation of educational materials to the children,As Alhaji Owolabi ‘Ajimomuya’ Oseni, the newly appointed member of the Governing Council, Federal University of Agriculture, Mubi, Adamawa State, also graced the occasion, showing support for this grassroots educational initiative.

Following his passion for academic excellence, desire to help indigent students and all round development of the youth, the Executive Chairman of Oshodi-Isolo Local Government, Otunba Kehinde Almaroof Oloyede has adopted and taken full charge of the best performing student, Master Emmanuel Ige in the mock examination conducted to select students during his free GCE Summer Coaching class for students within the council.

It will be recalled that the Executive Chairman after the successful conduct of the free GCE coaching classes for hundreds of students held a mock exam where 500 free GCE forms were given to well performed students.

During the presentation of the forms, Master Ige was presented before Otunba Oloyede as best performed students in each of the categories of the mocks conducted, there and then, the council boss presented him a N120,000 cash followed by an android phone.

The magnanimous council chairman felt the need to appreciate the young chap beyond the above, he announced adoption and full responsibility for this academic pursuits.

The Council Chairman commended the young lad for his exploits in his academic pursuits and assured that he will do everything humanly possible to ensure he excels in his pursuit of excellence.

The young Emmanuel Ige, who lost his soldier father in active service, praised the chairman for his philanthropic gesture and promised he will not disappoint him as he will strive to ensure he emerge victorious in the coming General Certificate Examinations (GCE) later this month.

Investigator news reports that the Council Boss who took over the payment of the school fees of Master Emmanuel Ige, posited further that he is impressed by the exceptional conduct of the boy during the qualifying examination that gave him the best student in the last examination.

In a brief interaction with Journalists on Saturday, Otunba Oloyede promised that he will continue to support the education pursuit of brilliant and indigent students in the local government, so that the best will emerge and make the council proud in the future.

According to him, “I am happy to adopt Master Emmanuel Ige, he is an exceptionally brilliant student, who during the qualifying examination for our GCE Forms, performed creditably well and in my commitment to excellence, I am adopting him.

I will support him in all his educational pursuits and ensure that he excels. I have paid his school fee today and I will continue to do it, till he passes out from the university. Either in or out of office, he is now my adopted son.

This gesture is also to lessen the financial burden on his mother, who is a widow and the need to express appreciation to his gallant soldier father, who died in the active service of protecting the territorial integrity of Nigeria.”he stated

In a commendable effort to support education and contribute to the T.H.E.M.E.S. Plus agenda of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, has initiated an educational outreach in Somolu Federal Constituency.

The Commissioner visited his alma mater, Morufdeen Primary School in Bariga, along with five other primary schools in the area, to distribute ‘back to school’ educational materials. This initiative comes as the new school session is set to begin next week Monday, aimed at providing students with the tools they need to excel academically.

While Hon. Osiyemi was on a state assignment abroad with Governor Sanwo-Olu, he was ably represented by the Education Secretary of Somolu Local Government Educational Authority, Hon. Dare Martins. The event also saw strong representation from Somolu’s political leadership, including Hon. Williams Lawanson, Chief Wale Mogaji, Hon. Yomi Olubamido, and Otunba Shakiru Anifowoshe Dengel, who lent their support to the educational initiative.

Organized by the Sean Pee Strategic Team, led by Mr. Olakunle Ashiru, the event was well-attended, with pupils from S.S. Peter, Wright Memorial, Alubarika, Aiyetoro, and Oke Metta Primary Schools joining their peers at Morufdeen Primary School to receive the educational materials.

In furtherance of his administration’s pursuit of ensuring school children get the best of education, the lsolo local government chairman,Hon Adebayo Olasoju is set to distribute educational materials to 14 public primary schools in lsolo LGA.

The Chairman, Hon. Olasoju who welcomes back all pupils and students living within the Isolo community to a new school calendar, stated that it is time to dream big again, work hard and stay focused as the world awaits their best, and academic excellence as they resume.

He said,”As the new academic calendar begins, expect to receive free educational materials such as exercise books, school bags, uniforms,Sandals,Socks and other writing materials, as this is one of our many priorities in Isolo LCDA.”

“As a government, we will continue to participate actively in your education, by providing and maintaining a good standard of education as it abounds in our blueprints.”he stated

Authorities of Tai Solarin University of Education Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode in Ogun State have announced the rustication of 31 students and an indefinite suspension of 47 others for various forms of academic and behavioural misconduct. 

This was contained in a statement issued by the institution’s Registrar, Dapo Oke on Tuesday.

Among those sanctioned is Ojo Michael, a 200-level student in the Computer Science Department, who was rusticated for the entire 2023/2024 academic session.

It was gathered that this decision was taken during the university’s Senate meeting held on July 31, 2024.

The statement further stated that  Michael was found guilty of forging his Cumulative Grade Point Average in a bid to fraudulently qualify for the Student Union elections.

In addition to Ojo  Michael, 17 other students were rusticated for examination malpractice, while five were sanctioned for making threats to life, and one other for fraudulent activities.

The statement also read that the university’s Examination Malpractice and Students’ Disciplinary Committee, after thorough investigations, recommended the penalties.

The university has further suspended 47 students indefinitely for various forms of misconduct, including impersonation.

Investigator news gathered that the Senate warned the affected students to stay off-campus so as to avoid potential confrontations with university security personnel.

The school authorities reiterated their commitment to upholding academic discipline and integrity, warning that any student found guilty of misconduct would face severe consequences in line with the institution’s rules and regulations.

“The Senate, at its Statutory meeting of 31st July 2024 has approved that Ojo Micheal, a 200-level student in the Computer Science  Department be rusticated for the 2023/2024 Academic session for forgery of CGPA to contest Student Union  Elections.

“17 other students got rusticated for examination malpractice, 5 for threat to life and  1 other for fraudulent act.

“47 students were found guilty of misconduct and were thus given indefinite suspension and another ten for impersonation.

“Other various punishments were also meted out for various misconducts as recommended by the Examination Malpractice and Students’ Disciplinary Committee.

“The affected students have been  advised in their interest to stay off the Campus to avoid being embarrassed by the University Security Personnel.”

The Member Representing Oshodi/lsolo 2 Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon.Okey Joe Onuakalusi on Wednesday,28, August,2024 laid foundation for the building of a new block of classrooms at Gbeleyi primary school, lshagatedo,lsolo Lagos.

Speaking during the foundation laying ceremony of the project,Hon( Bar) Okey Joe highlighted the significance of education and infrastructure development in the community, emphasizing the importance of providing a conducive learning environment for the pupils.

The lawmaker who was ably represented by his special Assistant in Politics, Chief John Uche stated that Education is the real passport to the future, stating that tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today as an investment in knowledge pays the best interest

Chief Uche went further to state that the construction of a new block of classrooms will ease overcrowding and provide a better learning environment for pupils.While laying the foundation stone, the lawmaker promised to support the school in making sure the children gets the best quality education, assuring them of his commitment of completing the project within few months.

He said the app enables students to learn at the comfort of their homes and pass both internal and external exams without attending physical exam centers or engaging home tutors. “This learning app secures the future of the child. It’s customized just like the fingerprints. It identifies the user and helps parents to monitor what their children read, even when they are not around”.

“It is also beneficial as it makes quality education affordable for students at all levels, which is customized and personalized depending on the learning ability of each ward”.

According to the CEO, the app is programmed with the school curriculum running across all examinations including JAMB, adding that it has the potential of improving the cognitive development, critical thinking skills and can be used in the classroom to aid in engagement. “It provides a platform where parents pay less and get quality results for their children”.

He hinted that the children will enjoy the comfort that the app provides, stressing that the need is to bring new ideas to mode of learning.

He called on school proprietors and other relevant stakeholders to buy into the app.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the 2024 results for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

While addressing a news conference in Lagos, the Head of the Nigeria National Office of WAEC Amos Dangut said out of the total number of candidates that sat the examination in Nigeria, one million, six hundred and eighty-five thousand, eight hundred and eighty-nine (1,685,889) candidates, representing 93.39% have their results fully processed and released.

According to Dangut he said“One hundred and nineteen thousand, three hundred and twenty-seven (119,327) candidates, representing 6.61% have one or more of their subjects still being processed due to some issues being resolved.”

” the analysis of statistics of candidates’ performance in the examination shows that out of the one million, eight hundred and five thousand, two hundred and sixteen (1,805,216) candidates that sat the examination, one million, three hundred and thirty-two thousand and eighty-nine (1,332,089) candidates, representing 73.79%, obtained credit and above in a minimum of any five (5) subjects (I.E. With or without English Language and/ or Mathematics.”he said.

He went further”The West African Examinations Council is pleased to inform Candidates who sat WASSCE for School Candidates, 2024 that the result has officially been released today, Monday, August 12, 2024,”To access the result, log on to https://waecdirect.org.”

“Candidates can check their results online by using the “Result Checker PIN and Serial Number”.

“The Result Checker PIN and Serial Number required by candidates to check their results online, are contained on the Candidate’s Smart Identity Card issued and used during the conduct of the examination,” he said.

“Hard copies of certificates of candidates whose results have been fully processed and released will be ready within the next 90 days, counting from today.”he submitted

The Governing Council of Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education, Owerri, has appointed Prof. Stella Ngozi Lemchi as Acting Vice-Chancellor.

The Council made the appointment at their inaugural meeting in the institution on Thursday, 25th July, 2024 following her recommendation by the University Senate. The appointment is with immediate effect.

In a letter signed by the Pro-Chancellor/Chairman of Council, Sen. Dr. Joy Emodi, CON and dated July 25, 2024, the Council congratulated Prof. Lemchi on her appointment. This development comes as the University continues to build on its recent upgrade from a College of Education to a University.

Under the leadership of Sen. Dr. Joy Emodi, CON, the pioneer Governing Council has emphasised the importance of cooperation between the Council, University and host communities. During the Council’s meetings with various stakeholders, Sen. Dr. Emodi urged for a tripartite relationship, stating that success would come through collective effort.

Prof. Stella Lemchi is a Professor of Home Economics Education and a former Provost of the erstwhile College of Education. Before her appointment, Prof Lemchi had been overseeing the institution’s affairs since its upgrade last year as the Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration).

Investigator News gathered that about four months ago,the coalition of four house unions in the institution have appealed to President Bola Tinubu to consider appointing Professor (Mrs) Stella Lemchi as the substantive vice chancellor.

The four house unions which comprises of Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) transiting to ASUU, Senior Staff Union in Colleges of Education, Nigeria (SSUCOEN) transiting to SSANU, Non Academic Staff Union (NASU) and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) jointly signed a communique passing a vote of confidence on the acting deputy vice chancellor, Prof. Lemchi to be promoted as the VC.

The unions highlighted some of the achievements of Professor Lemchi at Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education, Owerri, to include infrastructural Upgrade: such as prioritizing the renovation of hostels, enhancing their ambiance and functionality, deploying the federal government revitalization fund, to change over 200 doors and windows, tiling the floors of the two hostels, rebuilt the toilets completely and installed befitting and safe kitchens for the students,improved water supply in the hostels, complete repainting of the edifice and installation of electrical works, wardrobes and bed.

According to the unions, the acting DVC also initiated the construction of a Professors’ block in the Shell Camp area and increased developments in the campus across River Nworie. She has also fought doggedly to stop further encroachment in the campus across Nworie. Currently, the Lemchi administration is working on plans to fix the ecological problems in the river bank to enable the use of the bridge.
