    IMO: Imo Lawmakers Moves to Stop Tertiary institution From Delaying of Results Of Graduating Students.

    —-Urges Governor Uzodinma to Swift into action.

    Worried by the delay in releasing transcripts, certificates and statements of result of graduating students, the Imo State House Of Assembly has mandated all tertiary Institutions in the State to ensure that their graduating students are no longer subjected to undue and unwarranted delays in the processing and releases of the statements of result, transcripts and certificates.

    In a motion by the Member Representing Ezinihitte Mbaise State Constituency, Hon Dr Henry Agbasonu, expressed sadness over what has become the”Culture Of Corruption” by Tertiary Institutions in Imo State in deliberately delaying the issuance of transcripts, statements of result and certificates to graduating students.

    Hon Dr Agbasonu, who is the Chairman,House Committee on Education, while displaying his displeasure explained that the issue of result and certificate in Tertiary Institutions in Imo State has become very frustrating and demoralizing, which discourages new students from seeking admission into Tertiary Institutions in the State, due to corrupt tendencies where people intentionally make things difficult for others, in other to rip them of their resources.

    According to him,”Some students may need to further their education in other Institutions, but face very difficult tasks in getting transcripts. Perhaps, they have done the needful in clearance, school fees etc, yet these Institutions make things difficult for them to have Transcripts and Results, due to unnecessary bureaucracy, which puts the beneficiary at risk of jeopardizing chances of meeting up with the deadline fixed by the prospective institutions and organizations. This has become terribly difficult for graduates to do their Masters and Post graduate courses, because of the difficulty it takes in having first degree certificates issued to them”.he submitted.

    Hon Dr Agbasonu went further to state that from 2020 to 2023, the results of the pupils and students who sat for both Basic Education and Certificate Examination (BECE) and First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) are yet to be released, noting that both examinations are conducted by the Ministry Of Education, through the Examination Development Centre, EDC, noting that while BECE is an Examination written by JSS 3 students, FSLC is an Examination written by Primary 6 pupils.
    He argued that the Ministry Of Education has no cogent reason to offer as explanation for the delay in releasing the results for four consecutive years from 2020 to 2023

    “If the results are released today and it is discovered that some of the promoted JSS 3 students who are now in SS1, SS2 and SS3 failed their examination, will they come back to retake the JSS 3 exam?”

    The Speaker and other Lawmakers thereafter beckoned on the Education-friendly Governor, His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodimma to direct the Ministry Of Education to do the needful to correct the anomaly by releasing the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and First leaving School Certificate (FSLC) results of 2020 to 2023 respectively.

    Speaking at the event, the colour day committee chairperson,Mrs Adesanya explained that the event is designed to foster a genuine appreciation of the beauty and diversity that colours bring.


    According to her,colours are known to impart humans’ emotions, feelings, decisions, amongst other things and colours are capable of changing the moods, by bringing about reduction or increase in tension, activate excitement, passion, energy, enthusiasm, amongst other things.
    Adesanya went further to say,”Colours make the world beautiful.They define the atmosphere, they tell what an environment looks like or should look like, they promote differentiation, uniqueness, easy identification and also help in branding and designing.”she submitted.


    She advised everyone to embrace the diversity of colours and bask in the smiles they bring to our faces, noting that the children decided to add fruits so as to make it unique.
    Earlier the Proprietor of the school,Mr Ezekiel Onilude in his welcome address stated that the activities of the day were centred around the creativity behind colour choice, the hidden meanings of colour and the encrypted message that each colour carries and symbolises.


    Mr Ezekiel opined that,to some, colours have even deeper meanings than meet the eyes and to some colours could mean calmness, abundance, peace and spirituality while urging the parents and the children to use the event to know the importance of colours and fruits in their various life.


    The Colour/Fruit Day had children research and present information on the importance of colour,the origin and nutritional values of various fruits, from pawpaw, watermelon,mango, strawberry, orange, cherry among others.

     

    Highlight of the event were dance, singing, comedy, spoken words, picking of balls, and drinking competition by the children and parents.

    First group of Edo University medical students graduates

    34 students from the first group of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery classes graduated from Edo State University, marking another significant achievement for the faculty of medicine.

    The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria’s Registrar, Dr. Tajudeen Sanusi, conducted the induction and oath-taking ceremony and urged the newly inducted doctors to take their profession seriously.

    He noted that the doctors should exercise great compassion in their work and that their call to service was a call to humanity.

    This career is like the paramilitary, according to Sanusi; there are many dos and don’ts, and the responsibility involved is greater than the excitement you are experiencing right now. You have to make sure we don’t hurt anyone because we’re dealing with human life.

    The registrar, on the other hand, expressed gratitude to the state government for its assistance in establishing the university’s medical school and upgrading the Auchi General Hospital into the Edo State University Teaching Hospital, which the council accredited for housemanship for aspiring physicians.

    The event, according to the university’s vice chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor, marks a significant turning point in the development of education in Nigeria.

    While congratulating the inductees, the VC noted that they were able to finish the demanding programme in record time because of their perseverance, resilience, dedication, unwavering commitment to studies, pursuit of knowledge, and determination to become medical professionals.

    None of this would have been possible, he declared, if not for the outstanding professors and instructors who have trained and mentored these students. These students have become capable and caring medical professionals thanks to your enthusiasm for teaching, devotion to your profession, and unwavering commitment to excellence.

    “The government’s unwavering commitment to healthcare and education has paved the way for the seamless graduation of these students, and the state-of-the-art facilities provided by the government have created an environment conducive to learning, research, and innovation.”

    80,000 sit for rescheduled UTME on Saturday

    Adamu Adamu, Minister of Education, expressed satisfaction with the rescheduled 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination on Saturday.

    Adamu, who, along with the registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, monitored the exam at the Computer Based Test Centre in Mambilla Barracks, Asokoro, Abuja, expressed delight at the exam’s smooth conduct.

    “I am very happy with what I have seen,” Adamu told journalists gathered at the centre. Regarding the (temporary) holding room (for candidates) and the arrangement where they will take the examination, I believe everything is in order.

    “Everything is fine, have you noticed any problems?” “Perhaps they should have a class for the holding room; I believe that is the only improvement they will make here,” Adamu suggested.

    Meanwhile, in an interview with journalists at the venue, JAMB’s Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, Dr Fabian Benjamin, said that approximately 80,000 candidates who were unable to sit for the 2023 UTME within their scheduled time due to no fault of their own sat for the rescheduled UTME across the country.

    According to a JAMB spokesperson, the candidates affected include those who were verified at their centres but were unable to sit the examination, those who could not be biometrically verified, and those with mismatched data, among others.
    He stated that the use of innovations in the exam’s administration paid off handsomely, as the exercise had the fewest reported cases of infractions.

    “Examination malpractices were almost non-existent in this year’s UTME,” Benjamin said.

    When asked when the results of the rescheduled UTME would be released by the examination body, Benjamin stated that the board’s management will analyse the conduct of the exercise after its conclusion before making a decision.

    It was previously reported that the board released the results of candidates who had previously taken part in the exam, which began on Tuesday, April 25, 2023.

    A total of 1,586,765 candidates registered for the 2023 UTME.

    Buhari applauds UNICAL for entrepreneurship education training

    President Muhammadu Buhari has urged Nigerian universities to continue to prioritize entrepreneurship education training.

    He stated that this would result in a class of graduates who would be trained as job creators in the country.

    Buhari made the announcement on Saturday in Calabar, through Mr Goodluck Opiah, Minister of State for Education, at the University of Calabar’s 35th convocation ceremony.

    He stated that his administration is committed to meeting legitimate expectations about shaping the future through education.

    He praised the University’s entrepreneurship program and the institution’s collaboration with both national and international development partners.

    He went on to say that the handshake between the town and the gown was admirable.

    “I’d also like to commend the University for its effective collaboration and linkages with other institutions around the world, which will provide students with opportunities for scholarship and research.”

    “The achievements in online result handling and management, as well as the daring attempts to create a smart campus, are also commendable.”

    “My administration is committed to meeting legitimate expectations about shaping the future through education.”

    “As a result, I challenge our universities to continue to emphasize entrepreneurship training so that our graduates can become job creators rather than perpetual job seekers,” he said.

    “I also challenge you to work with industries to increase the level of production going on in the country so that we can achieve a diversified economy,” he added.

    He stated that his administration’s commitment to the growth of the education sector was evident in various intervention agencies, and as a result, funding was provided in addition to budgetary allocation.

    “This is evident in projects such as the Tertiary Education Trust Fund and Needs Assessment in public universities to improve facilities for meaningful research, teaching, and learning.”

    “I commend UNICAL’s management for the sustained campaign against cultism, which has resulted in a tremendously peaceful and congenial environment for the healthy academic enterprise over the decades,” he added.

    Prof. Florence Obi, Vice Chancellor of the institution, stated that the university was in desperate need of funds to build a perimeter fence around the water front to prevent crime.

    Obi stated that she has made significant progress in repositioning the university since taking office in December 2020 by instituting reforms and providing facilities.

    She stated that the lecture pavilions, office complexes, and two student hostels had all been completed successfully.

    “Within a short period of time, we have also completed massive hostel renovations and classroom furnishing, as well as installing solar street lights, resurfacing roads, and constructing flood control drainages.”

    “Through the use of Information and Communication Technology resources, we are gradually achieving our smart campus goal,” she said.

    Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, the institution’s Chancellor, promised to work tirelessly to ensure that the university remains competitive in the global academic community while also being the best university in Sub-Saharan Africa.

    The institution’s Pro-Chancellor, retired Gen. Martin Luther-Agwai, stated unequivocally that UNICAL was grossly underfunded.

    Luther-Agwai explained that the underfunding was caused in part by a decrease in government funding.

    The event’s high point was the awarding of the title of Professor Emeritus to Prof. Patrick Ebong, a University Professor of Endocrinology.

    CSO drags Buhari to court over retirement age of JAMB DFA

    A Civil Society Organisation, the Incorporated Trustees Of Anti-Corruption And Integrity Forum (ACIF) has dragged President Muhammadu Buhari before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, over the retirement age of the Director of Finance and Accounts (DFA) of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Mr. Mufutau Alabi Bello.

    In the suit with number FHC/ABJ/CS/2166/2022 the CSO said Mr. Mufutau Alabi Bello is due for retirement from service but still remain in the employ of the Federal Government contrary to Civil service Rules and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999.

    In the court documents sighted by journalists, the Plaintiff said Bello was supposed to have retired as a civil servant on May 9, 2022 but still remained in active service with the tacit approval of Prof. Is-haq Oloyede being the JAMB Registrar.

    The group prayed the court to compel Mr. Mufutau Alabi Bello to refund all the salaries and allowances he has collected since May 9, 2022 when he was supposed to have left active service till date. Others joined as Defendants in the case alongside President Buhari and Bello are Minister of Education, Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Chairman, Federal Civil Service Commission, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede (Registrar, JAMB) and Chairman, Governing Board, JAMB.

    Amongst other questions, the group prayed the court to determine:

    “Whether this Honourable Court is not entitled to direct the 2nd 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Defendants to forthwith remove the 7th Defendant from office as the Director of Finance and Accounts of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on the ground that he has attained the compulsory retirement age on 9th May, 2022?

    “Whether this Honourable Court is not entitled to compel the 7th Defendant to refund to the coffers of the Federal Government of Nigeria under the leadership of the 5th Defendant all the salaries, allowances and other emoluments he has received as the Director of Finance and Accounts of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) from 9th May, 2022 till date being that he did not legally earn those salaries, allowances and other emoluments?

    The Plaintiff claims against the Defendants jointly and severally as follows:

    “A declaration that going by the interpretation of Chapter 2, Section 8, Rule 020810 of the Federal Government Public Service Rules 2009 read in community with Section 318 (1) (c) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) Mr. Mufutau Alabi Bello sued as the 7th Defendant herein is not qualified to remain in office as Director of Finance and Accounts of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) having attained the mandatory retirement age of 60 (Sixty) years on 9th May, 2022.

    “A declaration that the action of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th 5th and 6th Defendants by allowing the 7th Defendant to continuously remain in office as Director of Finance and Accounts of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) even after attaining the mandatory retirement age of Sixty (60) years on 9th May, 2022 is usurpation of the powers of President Muhammadu Buhari sued as the 1st Defendant herein and therefore illegal, improper, null and void and tantamount to a flagrant breach of Chapter 2, Section 8, Rule 020810 of the Federal Government Public Service Rules 2009.

    “An order directing the 2nd, 3rd 4th 5th and 6th Defendants to forthwith remove the 7th Defendant from office as the Director of Finance and Accounts of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on the ground he has attained his compulsory retirement age on 9% May, 2022.

    “An order compelling the 7th Defendant to refund to the coffers of the Federal Government of Nigeria under the leadership of the 1st Defendant all the salaries, allowances and other emoluments he has received as the Director of Finance and Accounts of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) from 9th May, 2022 till date being that he did not legally earn those salaries, allowances and other emoluments.

    Also in two separate cases with numbers FHC/ABJ/CS/2164/2022 against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC and FHC/ABJ/CS/2165/2022 against the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, respectively, the same ACIF prayed for an order of mandamus of the court compelling the two agencies to release to it the report of investigation against Prof. Oloyede and Mr. Bello.

    Recall that the duo of Prof. Oloyede and Mr. Bello have been in the eye of the storm over allegations of corruption, fraud, abuse of office and illegal diversion of public funds from the coffers of JAMB. Several organizations including Transparency Advocacy for Development Initiative, TADI have been calling on Mr. President and the Honourable MInister of Education to sanitize JAMB by sacking the two principal officials.

    The three cases have been assigned to Justice Lewis Allagoa and fixed for 10th and 13th January, 2023 respectively for hearing.

    A member of the governing council, Federal Polytechnic Wanune, Mike Msuaan, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to assent to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Trust Fund bill to institutionalise his achievements.

    Msuaan, who is the North Central Coordinator of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council spoke at an APC Presidential rally.

    According to him, the NYSC Trust Fund will address the challenges bedeviling the scheme.

    He said: “I see the Trust Fund law as a very apt one because there was an urgent need to address identified challenges bedeviling the scheme over the years, as nothing can be compared with the paucity of matching funds to discharge the lofty mandate of the scheme.

    “It is believed that economic progress achieved by any society is strongly associated with the quality of its human capital and social interaction.”

    He said the NYSC is still fundamental to the unity and survival of the entity called Nigeria.

    “This scheme has continued to remain the most formidable, organised, and well-composed youth organisation in the country, without deviating from its mandate of integrating and unifying the country as one indivisible entity,” he said.

    Msuaan, therefore, urged President Buhari to
    assent to the NYSC Trust Fund bill that has been placed before him as his parting present to Nigerian youths.

    He reiterated that the bill will further strengthen the responsibility of expelling the erroneous conception and the few misguided expressions about the nobility of the intent of the NYSC scheme, and Nigerian youths in general.

    “It is worthy of note that the Trust Fund will help prioritise human capital development and social inclusion as a central anchor of our nation’s development agenda.

    “The effect of the Fund Is predictably foreseeable. Nigerian youths are creative, resilient, upwardly mobile, and ambitious.”

    Innysblog was built on an observation I had noticed. I can’t explain without giving the full story of how Nigerian society has, in no small way, made some people zombies.

    I’ll take my money in human development. If I can gather a community of individuals who feel inspired and become better individuals, that will be worth more than a million dollars.

    Money is important, but that isn’t why I started the blog. That’s why we have a donation page for viewers who fancy the vision and want to see the blog continually running. However, for me, as the founder, investment in people is profit enough.

    The Senior lawyer said Taxation is the major source of revenue for all the countries of the world, most especially, in the face of the dwindling relevance of crude oil.

    During his 60th birthday in Abuja, last year, Raji had said the introduction of Wealth Tax Policy will make super rich Nigerianss to pay deserved tax that would be used to cater for the downtrodden citizens in the country.

    At public lecture to mark the day, entitled, “Taxing Powers in a Federal System”, said time has come for government to do real balancing between the rich and the poor in Nigeria.

    He argued that in the face of harsh economic situation starring poor Nigerians in the face, the poor needs to be subsidized and not to be taxed under any guise so as to balance their anger against the rich.

    The Senior Advocate of Nigeria noted that evidence are sufficient that some super rich class own personal jets worth $50M each at a time when some families could not afford to eat twice a day adding that the country cannot witness genuine peace under such situation.

    “It is a fact that the downturn in Nigeria’s economy is having harsh and devastating effects on the poor majority Nigerians. The wide disparity between the rich and the poor should be of grave concern to patriotic Nigerians and the way out must be found.

    “The gap between the rich and the poor is so much and so offensive that It can lead to break down of law and order in any moment.

    “It is in the interest of justice that the super rich should shed part of their stupendous wealth to cater for the downtrodden masses before it is too late.

    “Majority of Nigerians are in absolute poverty. Over 90 percentage of the Nigerian population is in abject poverty and time has come for us, including myself to address the ugly situattion.

    “Any attempt to pretend that all is well may spell doom for the nation. We will be sitting on a keg of gun-powder, if we refuse to address the challenges of the poor masses now” he warned.
