    The Global IMSU Graduates Alumni of the Imo State University , Owerri on Saturday 17, August 2025, held its Annual Global Convention  at the MAN House, Ikeja Lagos,signifying the successful culmination of a remarkable 3 Days event.

    The event tagged”Lagos Experience 2025 with the theme”Empowering Excellence: Celebrating Our Heritage, Honouring Our Past and Inspiring Our Future “had in attendance an array of alumni drawn from different walks of life.

    Welcoming the alumni members to the convention,the Global President of GIMSUGA, Dr Anayo Uhiara stated that this year’s event is particularly special as the alumni gather to celebrate their heritage, honor their past and inspire their future.

    According to him, the theme of the convention Empowering Excellence: Celebrating Our Heritage, Honouring Our Past and Inspiring Our Future “reflects their commitment to excellence and their dedication to empowering future generations.

    Dr Uhiara went further to provide updates on the achievements recorded by the association which include attracting an intervention project worth N40million to the University, renovation and reactivation of three toilets facilities on campus, donation of mowing machines and accessories to aid campus maintenance,donation of 10 computers and printers to support accreditation exercise, responding to members welfare needs, strengthening and expanding the membership of the association and enhancing the relationship between the University and the alumni body.

    The Global President noted that the association has decided to digitalize the institution with its legacy project”As part of our continued commitment to meaningful impact,we are unveiling a key legacy project during this convention: Digitally Compliant Office Initiative. This initiative aims to equip each of the 17 faculties of Imo State University with a fully functional digital office comprising a laptop, multifunction printer, internet router, internal cabling and one year paid internet access. This project will significantly enhance the university’s digital infrastructure and improve the overall learning experience for students.”

    He expressed his gratitude to the Acting Vice Chancellor of IMSU, Professor Uchefula Ugonna Chukwumaeze (SAN) and the Management team of the university for their continued support and collaboration, with special appreciation extended to the Director Alumni Service,Prof Helen Ibeh for her unwavering dedication to the smooth running of alumni activities in the alma mater

    While acknowledging the efforts of the planning committee led by Ambassador Rosemary Chimezie,he appreciated all members who supported the Executives under his administration called for a collective resolve to build a stronger and more vibrant alumni association, ensuring continued impact in various activities and welfare of its members.

    ” I am confident that with your continued support in this second and final tenure,we will reach even greater heights and leave lasting legacies for the future.”he submitted .

    Delivering the Convention Lecture titled,”Empowering Excellence: Celebrating Our Heritage, Honouring Our Past and Inspiring Our Future”Professor Ezebunwa Nwokocha,Dean Faculty of Social Science, University of Ibadan stated that heritage is a rich tapestry of traditions, stories, and values that define who we are, stating that celebrating our heritage, we pay tribute to the generations that came before us, acknowledging their struggles, achievements, and contributions.

    Prof Nwokocha who frowned at the level of infrastructure and lack of man power in most universities as they are no longer center of excellence but “glorified secondary school”.

    “Today we are looking at if the universities are still center of excellence as it used to be,but today most universities are no longer center of excellence, because the sector is gradually eroding as some of the university are now glorified secondary school in terms of infrastructure,man power and they are no longer center of excellence.”

    “When you go to some universities that have science laboratories,it is nothing to write home about as students now do alternative to practicals”

    He emphasised that in the 1980s,the Saudi Arabia royal family were visiting the University teaching hospital Ibadan for their treatment because the University had everything at their disposal and were ranked 4th in the Commonwealth.

    The Professor of Social Health Demographic of University of Ibadan went further to state that Nigerians and the Federal Government need to rediscover themselves in terms of higher education so as to give our future generations the foundation to lay upon

    “If the government has failed us,we the alumni can improve on the infrastructure of our alma mater and giving that facelift we desire for our universities through our contributions because celebrating our heritage is not just about looking back; it’s about moving forward with a sense of purpose and pride.

    Earlier, the Chairman Global Convention Planning Committee, GIMSUGA, Ambassador Rosemary Chimezie while welcoming members of the alumni noted that the gathering is more than just a reunion but a testament to the enduring bonds they formed during their time at the Imo State University walls .

    She opined that it is an opportunity to reminisce about the old times, forge new connections and rekindle the spirit that define them as IMSU graduates.

    ” I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all who have worked tirelessly to make this event possible —The Chairman of the board of trustees, Ambassador Patrick Akushie, members of the Global Executive Council,the leadership of Lagos Chapter, the immediate past Global President, Prince Ezeala Ferdinand Akano,elders and leaders,all members of the Alumni association.

    ” As we embark on this celebration,I encourage each of you to engage fully,share your experiences and learn from one another. Let us use this platform to strengthen our network, explore opportunities for collaboration and continue to support one another in our personal and professional endeavors” she submitted

    The Acting Vice-Chancellor,Prof.Uchefula Ugonna Chukwumaeze (SAN)who was ably represented by the Dean Student Affairs,Prof Nkeiruka Oly Alawuba highlighted notable achievements recorded by GIMSUGA over the past year.

    Prof. Chukwumaeze stated that the entire Management of the university , students is proud of the association for doing a great job.

    “GIMSUGA have shown that a lot of things is possible provided that we are determined and put our strength together. The alumni association belongs to all members and all members should be implored to continue to project the university positively by providing the needed support for the Uhiara-led administration.”he said

    In their goodwill message, the National Chairman, Association of Nigeria Universities Alumni ,Prof. Yakubu Ochefu described the association as a trailblazers in the nation’s academic sphere, stating that their remarkable achievements and steadfast dedication to the Imo State University, Owerri have set a benchmark for excellence that inspires alumni association nationwide.

    Prof Ochefu called for a closer partnership so as to create a powerful, unified national voice.” Together,we can share best practices, advocate for impactful educational reforms and champion the crucial role of the alumni in Nigeria’s development.Your participation would be invaluable. May your resolutions strengthen the bonds of your association propel Imo State University and its community to even greater heights”

    As part of activities marking the Convention, the alumni recognized some distinguished personalities in different categories such as the Entrepreneur of the year, Community Service Award and Excellence in Vocational Award,celebrating their immense contributions to the university and wider society.

    Among those honoured are the distinguished member representing Orlu East/Orsu/ Orlu Federal Constituency at the National Assembly,Hon Canice Moore Chukwugozie Nwachuku,the Deputy Speaker Imo State House Assembly,Rt Hon Amarach Chyna Iwuanyanwu who both received the Legislative ICON Award State/National Assembly respectively.

    Receiving the Business ICON Award,CEO Densky Global Resources Limited,Lion Desmond Nkwocha applauded the association for the award saying that the award would spur him to do more in the community and impact lives positively.

    The philanthropist per excellence went further to urge the association GIMSUGA to keep doing good especially in the area of the digitization of the university, while pledging his unalloyed support to the association.

    Another recipient,CEO of Art Nouveau Events who received Events and Hospitality ICON Award,Mrs Stella Onweagba stated that it is not an easy task to be in the industry for over 15years providing innovation and excellence in the event and hospitality industry.

    Receiving the award on her behalf,Dr Uzoma Kelechi Asuquo thanked the organizers for finding her worthy, noting that the award would encourage her to do more

    ” We will continue to do more because they say reward for good work is more work,so we will do more by repackaging ourselves and trying to beat and create more milestone so as to forge ahead”

    “Kudos to IMSU graduates for coming up with such initiative in digitalizing the institution and I also congratulate them for a successful annual convention as I wish them more successful achievements ahead “she said.

    Mr Kelechi Sunday Enwereuzor,CEO Kelecino investment Nigeria Ltd said that he is honored to have received the award from the association, knowing fully well that he is not a graduate of the institution.

    Receiving the award on his behalf,his wife Mrs Chinwe Sophia Enwereuzor stated that the award is a stepping stone to help him to do more within and outside his community, business and general life.

    The Dean Student Affairs IMSU,Prof Nkeiruka Oly Alawuba applauded the association, while thanking them for the recognition “I feel great for the award, the award is not just about me but about the trust, support and love they have for me and the good work they are doing in the institution.I hope to represent them by doing more work and reflecting the purpose of the award”she submitted.

    Speaking with newsmen, Dr Anayo Uhiara, Global President of GIMSUGA he noted that the essence of the convention is to chart the way forward so as to harness their strength,celebrate their success story so far and review their challenges in order to push forward to a greater heights.

    Uhiara opined that the association is a body that is poised to impact both members of the alumni and the university at large as they have donated 17 computers and laptop to the university faculties so as digitized the operation of the university.

     

    He advised members to remain focus and not be distracted by people whose intention is to bring the achievements of the alumni association down.

    Lending her voice,the Chairman Global Convention Planning Committee, Ambassador Rosemary Chimezie urge the graduates of Imo State University not to be deterred in giving back to the school who has impacted their lives positively.

    She said,” Stars are still shinning, people are still giving so we are encouraging Imo Stars to give back to their school by finding a project to embark on so as to give the university a new facelift compared to what we used to have as students.

    “GIMSUGA is still in the business of connecting with people so as to make impact”

    Ambassador Chimezie who was the immediate past Global financial Secretary and immediate past Vice Chairman Lagos Chapter thanked the leadership of GIMSUGA under Dr Uhiara Anayo administration for their selfless, dedication to ensuring that the association moves to a greater height.

    The Chairman, Rivers State Chapter, Ambassador Emmanuel Amadi said that the convention has been an impactful experience, while commending the planning committee for putting up a good outing.

    ” It has been an impactful experience most especially the one that has to do with unity in diversity,we have to acknowledge the fact that we are not the same as every individual is unique. Despite whatever God has deposited in us, there is need for us to work together in collaboration and partnership”

    “For over the years, GIMSUGA has been having conventions but this “Lagos Experience” led by Ambassador Rosemary Chimezie and members of her team ,is one of the best we have had in the past couple of years and it can only get better for improvement ”

    “We are going home with what we have learnt to expand our membership with a positive impact “he stated.

    Investigator news reports that the three days Global Annual Convention witnessed the Annual general meeting,a health walk and free medical eye screening for residents of Ikeja and its environs, where over 200 individual received free eye glasses and treatment, while others checked their sugar and BP level.

    Highlight of the convention was the presentation of award to some distinguished personalities, Cultural display by chapters, business panel discussion on the topic “The rise of innovation and social entrepreneurship”,Cultural dance display,fund raising and unveiling the house of friendship where members of the alumni displayed their products.

    The event witnessed the presence of the Commissioner for Tertiary Education who was ably represented by the Deputy Director Lagos State Ministry of Tertiary Education,Mrs Olaide Oladejo,the Acting Vice Chancellor,Prof Uchefula Ugonna Chukwumaeze (SAN),Ambassador Akushie among others

    The convention ended on a high note with thanksgiving and a renewed commitment to advancing the goals of the Global IMSU Graduates Alumni

    The management of a Nigerian established British standard secondary school, Shekinah International Schools, Ihiagwa, Owerri West local government area of Imo has revealed its vision and mission to restore the glory of education in the country with premium integration of global curriculum and extra curricular activities.

    Addressing newsmen in a press briefing in Owerri, the principal of the school, Christian Modebe said the mission of changing the educational narratives is wholly anchored on not only reaching the expectations of parents and guardians across boards but to impact on the students to be great ambassadors of the school, state, country and society at large.

    “We’ve also brought into our secondary education to make our students to compete globally, advanced placement courses for our students, where our students will do advanced subjects such as mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology.

    “They gather credits to enable them obtain admission into top universities abroad. We also have our students do online exchange programs with top universities, with tutors in top universities outside the country. And then they are assessed and it helps them gain admission into Ivy League schools and other top universities outside the country”.

    The Principal further disclosed that the school in its bid to fight unemployment head-on in society introduced school of entrepreneurship studies for students to choose their niches and make a living in fashion and designing, music, dance, martial arts, robotics among other courses; adding that the programmes are packaged with Google, AWS, CISCO and other global IT company’s certifications as well structured to redirect the mentality of consumption to production.

    “We have what we call the entrepreneurship schools. This is not just the normal skill position people to do.

    This entrepreneurship schools, they are well organized.

    We have the advanced programming school where students learn how to code from HTML to CSS to JavaScript to Python. We have the School of Catering, where students are taught how to cook different continental and national dishes.

    “We have our School of Fashion and Designing, where students learn how to make dresses. We also have School of Music, where we teach students different musical instruments and also how to sing. We have School of Dance. We have the School of Martial Art. We have School of Robotics”.

    He said the school is in partnership with Top Clubs outside the country to enable students in Shekinah British International School Football Academy actualize their football dreams of being connected to top soccer teams and academy outside the country such as Western and West Ham”.

    “Next year, our students will be going to Western.

    They will be going to the West Ham Academy summer breaks and boot camps to play football and have leadership development”.

    “We also have this happening in Spain and France so we help our students in the football academy, connect them with teams and when they are done with the secondary education, if they wish to continue in that particular direction, it is easier for them because they are already going for summer boot camps abroad”.

    Modebe however frowned at the high level of examination malpractice in the educational sector, stressing that the best way to fight the developmental monster is by employing qualified and experienced teachers and prioritizing supervision to get the students well prepared to face any examination while calling on the government to also contribute their quota by serving teachers welfare as and when due to boost their morale.

    “You see, I must tell you, examination malpractice increases with inadequate preparation by the students.

    “So for you to first curb examination malpractice, your students must be adequately prepared for these exams and for students to be adequately prepared for the exams, one must get teachers and qualified staff in schools to prepare them.

    “Now, if we are trying to curb examination malpractice in Nigeria, first of all, the government and educational institutions and ministries must first look at the qualifications, experiences of our teachers and ensure that our teachers are doing very well”.

    “On the part of the government, there must be good supervision because if you allow people to do what they want, they would continue to do it the way they want to do it. Without supervision, a lot of people don’t do well”.

    “There should be very good supervision in all schools. There are schools you go to, and the teachers are not even in the classroom”.

    “Now, coming down to Shekinah British International School,from day one, the child enters the school, to the last day they leave the school, there is 100% supervision.

    Supervision in the classroom, supervision in the hostel, supervision in the sports field and that is why I said our students are doing very well in all external examination and it starts from

    internal examinations while students are taking exams and they are well supervised.

    “As principal, I supervise them even from my office through the exam hall CCTV camera. So you see, when you aid and abate examination malpractice, it does not just have impact on your immediate school. It does impact on both the university and the products we have in the country.

    “So if we are to build Nigeria, it should be a collective effort of both the teachers, the school owners, the ministries of education and others stakeholders in education.”

    The Executive Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, Hon Seyi Jakande, has launched his Summer Tech Bootcamp, a flagship initiative under his HEWA Agenda.

    The program aims to equip young minds with essential digital skills to thrive in a technology-driven world.

    Investigator news reports that day  one of the tech bootcamp witnessed a flurry of excitement as children flocked to the two designated centers: Kosybethel Primary School in Ajenifufa and St. Martin Primary School in Damegoro.

    The atmosphere was electric with young, eager minds ready to delve into the world of technology and innovation

    Hon Jakande’s Chief of Staff, Mr. Taiwo Ogungbe, emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating, “We are here to ensure our children are given the best possible start in the digital world.”

    “The program confirms Jakande’s commitment to enriching the youth with relevant digital skills, setting the stage for them to lead the way in a digital future”

    “This initiative is a cornerstone of the HEWA Agenda, and we are committed to empowering our youth with the skills they need to succeed.”

    Investigator news gathered that the program schedule, primary school students will engage in focused training sessions from 9:00am to 11:00am, while secondary school students will have their sessions from 11:00am to 1:00pm from Monday to Friday.

    The two-week-long program is designed to offer hands-on activities and interactive lessons, aiming to nurture the next generation of tech-savvy individuals,as the program will focus on Information and Communication Technology to empower youth for a digitally oriented future.

    It will be recalled that the Bootcamp confirms Jakande’s commitment to dedication to enriching the youth with relevant digital skills.

    “This is just the beginning,” Ogungbe concluded,

    “We have a lot more in store for our youth. The future is digital, and we are setting the stage for our children to lead the way.”he said.

     Sterling Bank, Nigeria’s leading financial institution, has announced the first recipients of its ₦2 billion Beyond Education Scholarship, a groundbreaking nationwide initiative designed to fund university education for 600 exceptional young Nigerians and connect them to future careers in high-impact sectors.

    The announcement reflects a major step in the Bank’s commitment to long-term, inclusive national development through strategic investment in human capital.

    At its core, the Beyond Education program is built not just to provide scholarships, but to create real-world pathways to employment and socio-economic mobility.

    Launched in June 2025, Beyond Education is Sterling Bank’s most ambitious education-focused intervention to date.

    The scholarship fully covers undergraduate tuition at two forward-looking, accredited institutions, Miva Open University, Nigeria’s first licensed online private university, and Hillside University of Science & Technology (HUST), a STEM-centered campus in Ekiti State.

    Unlike conventional scholarship programs, Beyond Education is intentionally designed to support Nigeria’s critical development agenda.

    It aligns with Sterling’s HEART strategy, an investment framework focused on Health, Education, Agriculture, Renewable Energy, and Transportation.

    The goal is to build a talent pipeline for sectors that are vital to the country’s future.

    Abdulahi Afolabi, Damilare Tijani, Abdulwahab Eniafe, Abubakar Isah, Tahir Enesi Ibrahim, Julius Agbene Agbo, Chinedu Kelechi Patrick, Ayomide Ojo, Fyneseed Nwogu, Miracle Woyinmomoemi Daniel, Serene Clinton, Temiloluwa Orekunrin, Udeme Umoh, Victor Esogwa, Rosemary Kosipre, Ali Mohammed, Usman Isiaka Ololade.

    Others are Kayode Aikulola, Saviour Philip, Ademola Afolabi, Emmanuel Enekwa, Bashir Sani Ibrahim, Ezekiel Adeseye, Deborah Umeaku, Abba Kaka Lawan, Haisam Sunusi Mahmuda, John Gumuan, Afan Ajiji, Bajepade Kehinde, and Chioma Igwe.

    While the scholarship covers full tuition, recipients are responsible for associated costs such as internet access, learning materials, and living expenses, a structure designed for sustainability and scale.

    To ensure effective rollout, nominations for the next round of candidates will pause until September 2025.

    However, voting remains open, and verified nominees are encouraged to continue engaging their communities as the next cohort will be selected in the coming weeks.

    With 570 scholarships still to be awarded, Sterling Bank remains committed to expanding access to quality education and helping shape a future-ready workforce for Nigeria.

    In a bold step toward improving access to quality education across Nigeria, Fidelity Bank Plc has launched the “Lighting Young Minds” initiative, donating 1,000 solar-powered school bags to pupils in public primary schools throughout Ogun State.

    Unveiled during a special event in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Friday, 4 July 2025, the initiative reflects the bank’s commitment to tackling systemic barriers to learning—particularly the challenge of limited electricity in underserved communities.

    Speaking at the event, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Fidelity Bank, Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, stated that the initiative aligns with one of the bank’s core Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) pillars of expanding access to quality education.

    “At Fidelity Bank, we see education as not only a means of knowledge transfer, but as a transformative force—a bridge to opportunity,” she said.

    She explained that through the bank’s SWEETA initiative, 1,000 solar-powered school bags are being donated to enable children to study safely at night, without the dangers associated with candles or kerosene lamps.

    “Beyond helping them improve their academic performance,” she added, “we want to inspire young minds to see that innovation and resilience can light the path to a better future.”

    Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe also highlighted Fidelity Bank’s broader investment in education, such as the SWEETA School Fees Support Initiative, which has disbursed over ₦8 billion in tuition support to eligible customers; the Read2Lead Writing Competition, which has impacted more than 3,000 students across Nigeria through prizes and grants; the Back-to-School Loans for parents; the Fidelity EduLoan which helps schools with infrastructure upgrades and asset acquisition; as well as the Green Energy Financing Program, which complements the solar-powered bag initiative by promoting sustainable energy use in education via solar energy.

    The solar-powered bags—designated for schools across all 20 local government areas in Ogun State—were officially unveiled by Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe alongside Her Excellency, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, the First Lady of Ogun State.

    Mrs. Abiodun praised the project, calling it a crucial and timely intervention in child development and foundational learning.

    “This initiative directly enhances learning for children in communities with limited electricity. It’s a brilliant example of how simple, practical innovations can drive profound change—keeping children in school and helping them thrive,” she said.

    She further noted its alignment with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4, which promotes inclusive and equitable quality education for all, and called on other private sector players to emulate Fidelity Bank’s leadership in social impact.

    Governor Usman Ododo has successfully restored the MBBS programme at Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, after a 10-year suspension, following the National Universities Commission’s (NUC) full re-accreditation.

    The Kogi State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams, disclosed this in a press statement yesterday, describing the approval as a landmark achievement.

    The Health Commissioner Dr.Adams stated that the landmark achievement,is part of Ododo’s strategy to boost Kogi State’s healthcare workforce.

    According to him,the programme was initially accredited in 2012 but lost accreditation in 2015 due to infrastructure gaps.

    He noted that the administration of former Governor Yahaya Bello, upon assuming office in 2016, swiftly intervened by approving full scholarships and facilitating the transfer of affected third-year medical students to other institutions.

    “Today, over 90% of those students have successfully graduated,” he said.

    According to him, Alh. Yahaya Bello also approved the construction of a state-of-the-art clinical complex at the university, which has since been completed and put to use.

    “In addition, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Marietu Tenuche, was mandated to commence all basic sciences and allied health programmes required to support a robust MBBS curriculum—an instruction that has since been carried out.

    “Upon assuming office in 2024, Governor Ododo directed a fresh review of the requirements for restoring the MBBS programme and gave immediate approval for the provision of outstanding facilities.

    These included a multi-purpose medical students’ teaching laboratory, lecture halls, a library, consultant offices, and student hostels.

    “These projects received prompt approval from His Excellency, and I personally represented him at the official handing-over of project sites to contractors,”

    Dr. Adams noted that construction work began immediately and is now at an advanced stage.

    “Following the infrastructural and academic upgrades, the university invited the NUC for a fresh round of resource verification.

    “Based on the successful outcome of the exercise, the commission has now granted approval for the full re-establishment of the MBBS programme at the university.”

    Adams described the development as part of Governor Ododo’s holistic strategy to expand the state’s healthcare workforce.

    He highlighted other strategic investments in medical and health education across the state, including the College of Nursing in Obangede, the College of Health Sciences in Idah, the College of Medical Sciences at CUSTECH, Osara, and now, the fully restored College of Medical Sciences at PAAU, Anyigba.

    The Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, on his part, described the re-accreditation as another promise kept.

    “During his campaign, Governor Ododo promised to ensure the return of the MBBS programme to Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba.

    “Today, he has fulfilled that promise. He continues to make difficult tasks look simple with his results-driven style of leadership.

    “This is a remarkable demonstration of an unyielding commitment to improving healthcare resources in the state,” Fanwo stated.

    Leading financial institution, Fidelity Bank Plc, has highlighted its dedication to community-focused interventions with the donation of a newly renovated block of classrooms and text books to Aso Pada Government Secondary School, Mararaba in Karu local government area of Nasarawa state.

    The Elite Bankers class of inductees, through the Fidelity Helping Hands Program (FHHP), supported a classroom renovation and book donation as part of the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.

    FHHP enables Fidelity Bank staff to identify community needs, raise funds, and receive matched support from the bank.

    At the handover ceremony, Dr Meksley Nwagboh, Divisional Head, Brand and Communications, highlighted that the project supports the bank’s focus on quality education and youth empowerment.

    The project was funded with voluntary contributions from newly inducted staff, matched by the bank.

    He stated, “The school was selected due to its role in the development of Mararaba’s residents.

    The school had not undergone renovation for the past fifteen years, and with support from the bank and pooled resources from our Elite Bankers class of inductees, this renovation is now possible.

    The Oyo State government has reaffirmed its ban on mobile phones, smart watches, including Meta eye glasses in schools, especially during examination, warning that violators will face strict consequences.

    The Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola, made this known today while addressing education stakeholders including Permanent Secretaries, Inspectors General of Education (PS/IGEs), and Heads of Departments during a meeting held at the Ministry’s conference room.

    Hon. Olayiwola emphasized the importance of discipline and integrity in the conduct of examinations, noting that an official circular already prohibits students from bringing mobile phones into school premises and examination venues.

    He urged school authorities to enforce this directive without exception.

    He further stressed that the use of smart watches, meta eyeglasses, and other devices that could facilitate examination malpractice is also strictly prohibited.

    The Commissioner called on teachers, parents, and guardians to monitor their wards closely and ensure compliance with these directives.

    “We must all work together to uphold the integrity of our education system and maintain discipline across our schools,” he stated.

    Ahead of 2025/2026 academic session,the Lagos State Government has officially unveiled the 2025/2026 Harmonized Academic Calendar for all primary and secondary schools across the state. 

    The announcement, made by the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), ensures a standardized schedule for both public and private institutions below the tertiary level.

    Investigator news reports that the calendar was finalized after extensive consultations with education stakeholders, including school administrators, proprietors, teacher unions, and regulatory bodies. The Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, approved the harmonized schedule, which aligns with national policies, public holidays, and external examinations.

    According to the OEQA Coordinating Director, Mr. Remi Abdul, the approved academic calendar is structured as follows:

    – First Term: September 15, 2025 – December 19, 2025

    – Second Term: January 12, 2026 – April 17, 2026

    – Third Term: May 4, 2026 – July 24, 2026

    The schedule ensures compliance with the minimum instructional weeks per term while accommodating international schools and promoting equity across Lagos State.

    Mr. Abdul emphasized that all schools must adhere strictly to the approved dates. The OEQA will conduct compliance checks to ensure smooth implementation, preventing deviations that could disrupt academic activities.

    This move aims to maintain stability and predictability for students, teachers, and parents.

    Investigator news gathered that the state government reiterated its dedication to enhancing academic excellence through structured planning.

    The harmonized calendar is part of broader efforts to create a learner-centred environment, ensuring students receive uninterrupted, high-quality education.
