    The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has indicated willingness to reschedule examinations for candidates who were genuinely affected by technical glitches during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

    JAMB stated this in response to growing concerns from candidates affected by technical glitches during the 2025 UTME, clarifying that rescheduling is available for those genuinely affected by system failures.

    Olawanle Timileyin, an affected candidate, had appealed for help on X handle @Timzy534, after missing his CBT examination due to a system error.

    “I was unable to do the CBT due to system error, and I was told to come next year. It is not fair. Dear JAMB official, please help,” Timileyin pleaded, sharing his registration number publicly.

    JAMB in response to the statement, clarified that no candidate will be abandoned if system error occurs.

    “That’s a cheap blackmail. If a centre experiences a technical glitch that makes the session not to hold, the affected candidates are rescheduled and they’ll be required to reprint their examination slips for details on their new centre, time, and location.” JAMB stated on its official X @JAMBHQ.

    The board made it clear that genuine technical failures, such as system crashes or hanging that prevent candidates from sitting for their examinations, will not result in automatic disqualification.

    Besides, JAMB emphasised that affected candidates are expected to reprint their slips to get information about their new schedule.

    However, the board maintained that it will not reschedule examinations for candidates who came late to their centres and/ or absentees.

    “Such treatment isn’t available for late comers and absentees,” JAMB stated. This means that candidates who missed their examination because of lateness or personal absence without any technical excuse will not be rescheduled.

    Only those who experienced verified technical issues at their centres will be given a second chance.

    “If you missed your exam due to a confirmed technical problem, you should keep checking the JAMB portal to reprint your exam slip. Stay in touch with your CBT centre for official updates,” the board emphasised.

    A bill seeking to convert the Yaba College of Technology in Lagos State into a full-fledged university has scaled the second reading in the Senate, marking a significant step toward upgrading the institution’s academic status.

    Investigator news reports that the proposed legislation, titled a ‘Bill for an Act to establish the Yaba Federal University of Technology and Vocational Studies, Lagos State’, was debated today during plenary.

    Leading the debate, the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, noted that the upgrade of the polytechnic to a university had already received presidential approval, and the bill aimed to give it full legislative backing.

    According to Bamidele, the proposed university would offer a broad range of academic programs with a focus on technical and vocational education in line with national development goals.

    “This bill represents a bold step in Nigeria’s push for accessible, modern education tailored to the demands of a 21st-century economy. It will provide facilities for learning, encourage research with a focus on technical fields, and be open to all Nigerians, regardless of background,” he said.

    The bill, which was met with broad support from the lawmakers, has been referred to the Senate Committee on Tertiary Education and TETFUND for further legislative work to report back within four weeks.

    The Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA) has broadened its corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts with the second phase of its “Back to School Storm” initiative, reaching four public primary schools in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

    Investigator news reports that the Agency visited Methodist Primary School, Igbogbo; Anglican Primary School, Igbogbo; Etunrenren Primary School; and Muslim Primary School, Ikorodu distributing essential school supplies to pupils.

    The donated items included environmentally-conscious school bags crafted from repurposed advertising banners, alongside exercise books and writing materials.

    The initiative underscores LASAA’s commitment to both educational advancement and environmental sustainability, a vision championed by its Managing Director, Prince Fatiu Akiolu.

    The programme aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus agenda, which prioritises education and social development across the State.

    Key LASAA management figures, including the Director of Administration and Human Resource, Mr Gbolahan Oloko; Head of Operations and Innovation, Mr Adegbolahan Dixon; Head of Corporate Communications and Strategy, Mrs. Atinuke da-Silva-Osadjere; and the Head of Legal Department, Mrs. Titilope Raheem were present at the outreach.

    Investigator news gathered that the CSR initiative is a collaborative effort with the Omo Daada Foundation, led by Honourable Omoniyi Dada, who also participated in the distribution events. Dufil Prima Foods, a key sponsor, actively contributed by providing additional school items and nutritious lunches for the pupils at each school, adding a significant humanitarian aspect to the programme.

    Reaffirming LASAA’s long-term commitment, Prince Fatiu Akiolu pledged to extend the initiative to more public schools across Lagos, aiming to cultivate academic excellence and empower future leaders.

    Honourable Sesan Daini, Chairman of Igbogbo Bayeku Local Council Development Area, expressed his profound gratitude for LASAA’s benevolence and encouraged sustained support for the children.

    Further bolstering the initiative, Honourable Gbolahan Ogunleye, Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Ikorodu I and Chairman of the House Committee on Sustainable Development Goals and Overseas Investment donated table tennis equipment to promote sports and extracurricular activities.

    He emphasized the importance of holistic education, encouraging school administrators to prioritise activities that foster the physical, emotional, and intellectual development of pupils.

    The Inspector General of Police IGP Kayode Egbetoken PhD,has launched the safe school protection squad in Delta State,as he also organised a two day stakeholders forum on the security of schools in Delta State and training of the schools protection squad with the team strengthening security resilience and integration of host communities in the protection of education.

    The IGP who was represented by the AIG Zone 5 Benin city, AIG Salman-Dogo Garba,described the squad as the heart of the safe school initiative, noting that the team comprises officers specially trained and equipped to safeguard learning institutions and respond swiftly to distress or threats that may arise.

    Investigator news reports that during the two-day stakeholders forum which ended on 24th April 2025, resource persons from the educational sector, ICT, and security experts delivered power-packed lectures to the amusement of stakeholders.

    The event was graced by top dignitaries, including the Governor of Delta State Rt (Hon) Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, represented by the Secretary to State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, the Chairman Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM Maj. Gen. Felix Mujakperuo (Rtd.), CFR, mni, the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, represented by the second vice Delta state council of traditional rulers, HRM Obi of Obulunor.

    Also in attendance were the representative of National security adviser, the commissioner of Police Delta State command CP Olufemi Abaniwonda psc, the National coordinator School protection squad CP Abayomi Shogunle PhD, fsi, representative of service commanders of the various sister security agencies, school principals, teachers, secondary and primary students, vigilantes, members of Nigeria hunters, Anti-cult, Man-o-war, members of civil society groups, members of National association of Nigeria students, among others.

    The Coordinator CP Abayomi Shogunle PhD,in his remarks stated that in recent years Nigeria was faced with security challenges such as kidnapping, murder and other related crimes, which included destruction of school facilities, that sometimes led to closure of schools and also increased numbers of out-of-school children.

    CP Shogunle noted that the Nigerian government in the December 2019 formally signed the Safe School Declaration document, which signalled the country’s commitment to a safer school environment.

    He concluded by saying that the right to education is central to social and economic progress, and investment in education is an investment in Human capital development.

    The SSG who represented the Governor of Delta State commended the Police for the initiative to organize this stakeholders forum stating that he was impressed by the determination of the Inspector General of Police to keep schools safe.

    The glaring inflation of contracts, flagrant bypass and abuse of due process alleged to be perpetuated at the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), has attracted the attention of the United Action for Democracy (UAD), a pro-democracy group.

    UAD has however called on the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to immediately suspend the Vice-Chancellor of LASUSTECH, Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya, to prevent further corruption and imminent implosion of the institution.

    The group, a coalition of pro-democracy and human rights groups, in a petition, signed by its Organising Secretary, Kazeem Oloyede, cited what it termed grave allegations of corruption against the Vice-Chancellor, noting that his continued stay in office threatens the stability of the institution, endangers its credibility, and may trigger an uncontrollable internal crisis among academic staff, non-academic staff, and students.

    The group accused the VC of flagrant abuse of procurement laws for deliberately bypassing the Procurement Department and Lagos State Public Procurement Law 2021, personally awarding contracts without due process; corrupt contract awards, as he allegedly colluded with the Procurement Officer and Auditor to manipulate contract processes, selecting companies of personal interest for fraudulent financial gains; and massive inflation of contracts, among other allegations.

    “The unchecked corruption within LASUSTECH has triggered growing resentment among academic staff, non-academic staff, and students, who are on the verge of full-blown protests. If immediate action is not taken, the institution risks total breakdown, leading to national and international disgrace.

    “We are demanding the immediate suspension of Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya as Vice-Chancellor to allow for transparent investigations and prevent further damage to LASUSTECH. There should be the appointment of an interim leadership to restore confidence in the university’s administration and ensure accountability.

    “There should be a full-scale forensic audit into the mismanagement of the accreditation fund, and immediate prosecution of all individuals found culpable in the financial misappropriation to serve as a deterrent to future violations.

    “Your Excellency, the reputation of LASUSTECH, Lagos State, and Nigeria’s education sector is at stake. The global academic community is watching, and any failure to act decisively will tarnish the image of your administration and the state. We urge you to act swiftly to prevent the imminent implosion of LASUSTECH and ensure that justice prevails,” he said.

    He noted that several law enforcement agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Lagos State Police Command, have already received reports on the case, and investigations are said to be ongoing.

    “However, for justice to take its course without interference, it is imperative that the Vice-Chancellor is immediately suspended to prevent obstruction of investigations and further financial damage to the institution.”he submitted

    The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced April 24, 2025, as the new date for the commencement of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) nationwide.

    The update was made known in an official statement signed by Fabian Benjamin, Ph.D., Public Communication Advisor to JAMB, on Saturday.

    Investigator news reports that the examination was originally scheduled to begin on Friday, April 25, but was moved forward due to what the board described as “essential commitments by the Board and its partner agencies.”

    “The 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) is now set to commence on Thursday, April 24, 2025, instead of the previously scheduled date of Friday, April 25, 2025. This adjustment has been made to accommodate essential commitments by the Board and its partner agencies,” the statement read.

    As part of preparations, JAMB has opened its portal for candidates to print their Examination Notification Slips

    “All candidates who have registered for the 2025 UTME scheduled to commence on Thursday, 24th April, 2025, are urged to print their 2025 UTME Notification Slips before the date of their examination,” the statement added.

    The notification slips contain vital information, including examination date, venue (centre), and time

    To print the slip, students are advised to visit www.jamb.gov.ng, click on “2025 UTME Slip Printing”, enter their registration number, and click on “Print Examination Slip”.

    The board advised all candidates to print their slips and “familiarise themselves with the location of their centres before the date of the examination.”

    This is to help ease any last-minute confusion or delays on the exam day.

    JAMB reiterated a strict policy regarding examination locations, warning candidates not to appear at any centre outside their officially assigned venue or town.

    According to the Board, each candidate will be assigned to a centre strictly within the examination town they selected during registration.

    Any attempt to sit for the UTME outside this assigned town will not be permitted under any circumstances.

    “Please note that candidates will be assigned to centres within their chosen examination towns; no candidate will be placed in a centre outside their selected town,” they stated.

    Speaking during the official award presentation ceremony of the TSF-Nze Sir Raphael O. Iro Memorial Teacher’s Merit Award held over the weekend, at the TSF Programs Office Owerri Imo State, the Director, Programs Development, Dr. Sir Tobias Nwokocha noted that the award which comes yearly seeks to recognize serving and retired teachers for their contributions and commitment in raising and impacting their generations.

    “The Foundation is committed to enhancing human capacity and community development.

    “We recognize that teachers are not supposed to go unsung because the society is what it is today given the contributions of teachers. They should be celebrated and not neglected”.

    “The Foundation instituted the teachers merit award to immortalize the noble efforts they are making in/for the society.

    “The selection of the successful recipients of the award went through stringent measures by educational experts. The nominations were investigated upon to ensure that committed teachers were selected”.he said

    Nwokocha urged the recipients to live out the spirit of the award by being dedicated to their chosen profession of raising leaders, shun exam malpractice that demeans the quality of education and shun truancy.

    According to Nwokocha, “It has over the years continued to bring succor especially to the downtrodden and has gone further to institute the annual teacher’s merit award to encourage hard work and dedication to the teaching profession as well as promote learning in Nigeria”.

    One of the recipients, Mr. Gabriel Eluwa who is the Electronics teacher of Government Technical College Owerri noted that they will be spurred to keep the spirit of dedication and commitment on the award.

    He noted, “education of a nation cannot be higher than the quality of teachers. He lauded the foundation for the award and pledged to improved pedagogical experience”.

    The Executive Chairman of Isolo LCDA, Olasoju Adebayo has lauded Mr. Seyi Tinubu and his Spouse, Mrs. Layal Jade Tinubu; founders of the ‘Noella’ Foundation for complementing his administration’s strides in the education sector.

    Hon Olasoju gave the commendation in his remarks at the implementation of the foundation’s ’Pencil To Possibilities Drive’ held on the premises of Akinbaiye Primary School, Isolo on Wednesday.

    At the event, the organization doled out basic educational materials such as brand new school bags, writing materials, umbrella, and Socks among others to over 600 pupils of Akinbaiye Primary School and its sister Ansar-Ud-Deen Primary School.

    The council boss applauded the non-governmental organisation for the significant investment in education and also for counting Isolo LCDA worthy of the invaluable gesture.

    The headteacher of Akinbaiye Primary School, Comrade Rauf Salami expressed gratitude to the foundation and the council authority for the thoughtful partnership as he urged other NGOs to take a cue from the initiative and partner with the government on education.

     

    Others on the council boss’ entourage to the event included the Council Manager, Mr. Mojisola Ogabi, the supervisors for education and Environment, Hon. Adeolu Ikugbayigbe and Princess Balikis Agbabiaka, respectively, officials from the council’s education department and Ilerioluwa Women among others.
