     In celebration of the 2025 edition of Global Money Week (GMW), Polaris Bank took its financial literacy advocacy to NANA College, Warri, Delta State, where students received firsthand insights on money management, saving, and investing.

    The event, which was held within the school premises,witnessed an impactful engagement led by Mr. Andrew Komori, the Group Head of Polaris Bank, who represented the MD/CEO at the event.

    Addressing a hall packed with enthusiastic students and faculty members, Mr. Komori delivered a compelling lecture on financial literacy, emphasizing its critical role in shaping a secure and prosperous future.

    He explained that financial literacy is not just about knowing how to spend money, but understanding how to make informed decisions, avoid debt traps, and build long-term wealth.

    According to him, “Financial literacy empowers you to take control of your future.

    It is a life skill that helps you plan, protect, and grow your money wisely.” One of the highlights of the session was Mr. Komori’s explanation of the fundamental difference between saving and investing.

    Using relatable examples, he illustrated that saving involves setting money aside for short-term needs or emergencies, often in a bank account, while investing is the act of putting money into vehicles like stocks, mutual funds, or businesses with the expectation of generating returns over time.

    He urged the students to develop both habits early, noting that each plays a vital role in achieving financial stability.

    He further emphasized that saving is important, but investing is what will set individuals up for long-term financial success.

    Mr. Komori also stated that achieving financial freedom requires a combination of earning, saving, and smart investing.

    Investigator news reports that the event was designed to be engaging and participatory.

    Following the lecture, there was a highly interactive session where students eagerly asked questions and shared personal experiences.

    The facilitator responded with clarity and encouragement, helping the students understand real-life applications of the financial principles discussed.

    The vibrant interaction underscored the curiosity and readiness of young Nigerians to learn about money and how it works.

    Both the faculty and students expressed their gratitude to Polaris Bank for the impactful session.

    Mrs. Madamedon, the Principal of NANA College, thanked Polaris Bank for facilitating the event, saying, “On behalf of the entire school, I would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to Polaris Bank for investing in the future of our students.

    Mrs. Onakufe, the Vice Principal, also expressed her gratitude, adding, “We are excited that Polaris Bank chose our school for this important event.

    The knowledge shared today has already sparked conversations among our students, and we believe this will have a lasting impact on their financial decision-making as they grow into adulthood.”

    In addition to NANA College, Polaris Bank also visited several other schools across Nigeria, including Excel International School, Damaturu, Baptist High School, Ede, Christ the King Excellent Academy, Lokoja, and Graceland International School, Ogotun Ekiti with a mandate to visit at least one school in each state.

    These sessions have helped extend the Bank’s financial literacy outreach to a larger group of students. The students also shared their excitement, describing the session as “eye-opening” and “life-changing.”

    Polaris Bank continues to demonstrate its commitment to youth empowerment through various financial literacy initiatives targeted at secondary schools and higher institutions across Nigeria.

    The Bank believes that a financially literate population begins with equipping the youth with the tools they need to make smart financial decisions.

    Global Money Week is an annual global awareness campaign organized to inspire young people to learn about money matters, livelihoods, and entrepreneurship.

    With this year’s theme focusing on “Think before you follow, wise money tomorrow,” Polaris Bank’s initiative at NANA College and other schools aligns perfectly with the global mission to build financially responsible generations.

    The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, has officially launched the School-Based Management Committee – School Improvement Programme (SBMC-SIP) and the Teacher Professional Development (TPD) initiative, both implemented by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

    He stated that these transformative programmes, funded through the UBE Intervention Fund, aim to strengthen school governance through community participation and improve teaching standards to enhance learning outcomes. This aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

    Dr. Alausa announced the Federal Government’s support for UBEC’s 2025–2027 targets, which include:Construction of 7,200 UBE facilities,Provision of 1.68 million school furniture units,Renovation of 195,000 classrooms,Installation of 22,900 boreholes and 28,000 toilets and Perimeter fencing in 14,000 rural schools.

    Investigator news reports that these efforts align with the upcoming competence-based curriculum, with Teachers’ Guides in development.

    He emphasized the importance of teacher upskilling and community engagement, urging State and Local Governments to support and monitor the SBMC-SIP.

    While commending UBEC, he called on stakeholders to support the Renewed Hope vision. Prof. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, Minister of State for Education, reaffirmed the government’s dedication, citing achievements in infrastructure, teacher training, and resource distribution.

    Dr. Aisha Garba, UBEC Executive Secretary, highlighted the initiatives’ focus on bridging infrastructure and teacher quality gaps.

    “We are not merely launching programmes; we are reaffirming a national commitment to every Nigerian child,” she said.

    Investigator news gathered that with over ₦2 billion allocated to 1,147 SBMCs, over 15,000 projects will be supported, fostering transparency and sustainable development.

    Identifying and knowledge of one’s culture as a child is paramount to self realization. Thus, having knowledge of other people’ culture is an added advantage to the formation and overall development of the growing child which opens the mind to the understanding of different cultures.

    This will no doubt forge the spirit of unity and coexistence devoid of unnecessary strives that cause fighting and war.Towards this realization,St Maureen School Ejigbo Lagos,organised it’s 2025 Cultural Day celebration on Saturday 29, March 2025 to showcase culture in 3 geo political zones of Nigeria, South West, South East and South South.

    It was a beautiful sight to behold as the pupils paraded in their colourful traditional attire, dancing participating in all sort of didactic and etertaining activities to give the day it’s true meaning.

    The students were painstakingly groomed to showcase the 3 geo political zones in Nigeria, South West, South East and South South cultures in terms of of their native attire, language,belief system and local delicacies were on display by the aforementioned groups.

    Also parents couldn’t help but dance along in succession with the presentation of Yoruba,lgbo and Efik cultural dance.

    Speaking at the occasion, the School Coordinator,Lolo Susan Obesie said the day is set aside for the children to know their culture and the need not to abandon our cultural heritage because Nigeria has a unique culture.

    Lolo Obesie went further to state that the essence of the event was to encourage the children in embracing their culture which is a testament to the beauty of our difference and strength that come from embracing our unique identity.

    “Today we gather to commemorate the rich diversity of our culture, tradition and heritage. As we celebrate,let us remember that our culture is not just a reflection of the past but also a bridge to our future,that is why it is important to teach our children our rich culture for continuity, respect and values for our culture “she said.

    Speaking with investigator news,she stated that so many children, parents have embrace foreign culture,thereby forgetting our culture.

    “The aim is for that cultural diversity, so that all our children will know the cultures of each zone and each tribe. So, even the different types of foods each tribe eats. Different types of dances. You can see the Igbo,Yoruba, Efik which represents the South South”she submitted .

    She called on all parents to always teach their children their dialect, take them to their community as it will help them especially when they are in danger.

    The Chairman of the occasion, Comrade Ogbu Valerian applauded St Maureen School for the initiative, stating that culture which is seen as the people’s way of life would bring the children together so as to a observe our cultural heritage.

    Comrade Ogbu said it was necessary for each citizen of the country to forget about ethnic egoism and leave what divides Nigerians and make use of what bound everyone together in other for the nation to be indivisible, stating that the purpose of organizing the cultural day was to train children to embrace their culture, as it is important in the development of society.

    “Let us learn to observe our culture,no matter the situation, though the whites came and brought their culture which now change our mindset to certain things especially we Nigerians but thank God the crusade is ongoing especially in schools like St Maureen School Ejigbo where they can see, learn and embrace our culture”he stated.

    He appealed to parents to always teach their children their culture, language and what makes their culture unique as it will help the children in future, while commending the students for their performance, urging them to learn from different cultures displayed at the event.

    One of the Special guest of honor,Alhaji Sulaimon ldera emphasized the importance of culture, saying that culture has now been enshrined in the school curriculum, stating that Africa and Nigeria at large has a beautiful culture that showcases our culture and identity to the outside world.

    Hon Sulaimon,a Chairmanship aspirant of the All Progressive Congress Ejigbo LCDA advised parents especially mothers to always encourage their children to speak their language and understand their tradition and culture,as they are seen as the first teacher while urging the children to take their studies seriously as education can take them to any length of their career in life.

    Lending her voices,the Royal mother of the day Chief Mrs Nneka Sanyanolu urged the pupils to appreciate the different cultures in order to ensure peaceful co-existence of the country.

    She said,” there is need to constantly remind the students to get abreast of their various cultural diversities and appreciate other people’s culture”

    According to her, most of these children are born in Lagos and most don’t even speak their dialects,so they need to be reminded of who they are and where they come from.”

    “They don’t know their language and perhaps they have not even visited their villages but with a program like this,it will help them to know their languages “she stated.

    While applauding St Maureen School Ejigbo,she urged parents to make their children see the importance of their culture, noting that our culture is very rich.

    Chief Mrs Sanyanolu used the occasion to congratulate mothers as they celebrate world international mothers day, saying that mothers are amazing and special breed, while calling on them to be role models to their children.

    Also speaking to investigator news,the mother of the day,Mrs Nnenna lroh said culture unites people especially in the school environment as it promotes opportunity for the pupils to rediscover the root and remind them of the tangible and intangible cultural heritage that has been in existence for generations.

    She commended the school for promoting culture among the children which would make the pupils to understand the different cultures we have in Nigeria.

    “Our language is our identity and organizing such event would bring to the understanding of the children,the diversity in our cultures and making them to understand and see where they are coming from”

    “These children are learning,this is not just to get fun as there’s an educational impact in it.Thank God the school just don’t teach children academically but teaches them all around education in terms of social, culture, and everything. So that the children will grow up to become full-blown children.”she submitted.

     

    Highlight of the event was unveiling of the school magazine,the cultural dance competition,food competition, fashion parade and general presentation by the pupils. Each cultural group showcases their traditional dance moves and competed for top prize.

    The competition was fierce and the judges had a tough time deciding the winner, what made the celebration even more remarkable was how it brought together pupils from different cultural background.Regardless of their cultural difference pupils bonded over their shared love for their country’s heritage

    The pupils from the South South took the day and went home with the top prize, South East took second position and South West came third.

    The Honorable Commissioner for Tourism, Hospitality and Culture, Imo State, Barr. Jerry Egemba,has urged school principals in lmo State to promote Igbo culture and encouraged parents to teach their children how to speak Igbo in their respective homes.

    He noted that most of the children from Igbo extraction are losing grips with Igbo culture and language,as one will begin to imagine what will happen to Igbo children in diaspora.

    He disclosed this during the black history month celebration in honour of Igbo black icons, organized by Blazing Youngsters Achievers Network in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, Hospitality and Culture Imo State, held at Metro Event Center Owerri,on Friday 28, March 2025.

    He said, ” government will continue to support initiatives that will uplift the youths,promote our cultural heritage, and position Imo State as a hub for creativity, talent, and tourism.

    ” Together, we will build a future where our history is not just remembered but lived with pride and purpose.

    ” I commend His Excellency,the Executive Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, for his unwavering commitment to the development of our state,especially his remarkable support for youth empowerment,education,and cultural advancement.

    ” Under his leadership,Imo State has witnessed transformational progress in various sectors,and his vision for the youth remains a beacon of hope and inspiration”. He stated.

    The Commissioner went further to appreciate governor Uzodimma for believing in young people,and for creating opportunities that allows them to thrive.

    He thanked Black Youngsters and Achievers Network ( BYAN), for organizing the celebration in partnership with the government which reflect a shared vision of preserving Igbo heritage,while equipping the next generation for greatness,commended their relentless dedication to youth development and cultural preservation.

    Egemba urged the students and young achievers who won prizes in Igbo language to embrace knowledge,to also take pride in their roots,and be ambassadors of Igbo reach culture wherever they go.

    He described Igbo language as a superior language, while urging BYAN to ensure that they make the event clips available and accessable to Imo youngsters in diaspora, even as he thanked the Chairman of the occasion Hon. Modestus Abiazie Osakwe, Commissioner for Homeland Security and Vigilante Affairs Imo State for his role.

    Also speaking, His Royal Highness Eze Luck Okoro PhD. The Secretary Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, from Eziobodo Autonomous Community, in Owerri west,stressed the need for youngsters to prepare themselves for future advancement.

    He advised the students to always maintain close relationship with their parents to learn from them,adding that it will enable them to trace their roots in the future.

    Earlier, the Chairman of the occasion, Hon. Modestus Abiazie Osakwe, Commissioner for Homeland Security and Vigilante Affairs Imo State, expressed happiness for the wonderful displayed of art by the children who participated at the event.

    He noted that art and history are interwined, stressed the need to reintroduce history in schools to enable the youngsters understand their own history.

    Osakwe, commended the organizers for coming up with such an educative cultural event, he encouraged the youngsters to live up to expectations as they heard the history of the Late Onyeka Onwenu and their likes even as he assured them that tomorrow they will be equally be celebrated.

    The Imo State Shared Prosperity government, in her effort to build tomorrow’s leaders through Good Hope Women’s Initiative organized a one – day capacity building tagged” Reaching Forward Mentorship Program For Women And Girls” held on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Rockview Hotel, Owerri.

    As the main objective is to nurture and inspire young women and instill them with ethical principles and values to excel in their choosing careers.

    The event which involved all the secondary schools and universities in Imo state graced the occasion to learn steps towards positioning themselves for better future.

    Speaking to journalists shortly after the event, the Imo State First Lady, Her Excellency Barr. Dr. Chioma Uzodimma, expressed happiness for the outcome of the program and says it has been her desire to encourage young girls and women for them to know that they are not alone.

    She revealed that the program aimed at equipping women and girls with the guidance, skills, and confidence to excel, charged the pupils to discover who they are, saying it would help them control their future.

    The First Lady, disclosed that she is a product of mentorship and the impact really helped her to stand tall today.

    She advised the young girls not to relent, no matter the challenges facing them they will still be what they wants to be in life through good mentorship.

    The founder Good Hope Women’s Initiative, assured that she will continue to empower young girls and women in the state for better development, even as she commended Governor Hope Uzodimma for his love and support.

    She said, ” God be in our side, it will get to the targeted people so that in future years to come, our girl child will make us proud and will still feel fulfilled in whichever careers they have chosen”. She stated.

    Hezekiah University, Umudi, in Nkwerre LGA of Imo State, is set to hold its historic, first ever convocation ceremony on Saturday, March 8, 2025.

    The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Nnamdi Okere, together with principal members of the management team, including Dr. Chika Ogbufor the Admissions Officer, Dr Ahamefula Mbah, the Director of Academic Planning, Dr Alex Madu, the Dean of Deans and Dr. Alex Madu, and others voiced their happiness at the upcoming epoch-making occasion at a press conference with newsmen at the university’s senate chamber.

    Talking in advance of the highly anticipated convocation, Prof. Okere spotlighted the university’s commitment to developing graduates of academic excellence and good morals.

    In his word, “Our students are groomed to epitomize the motto of the university which is academic excellence with good morals. They are an injection of good seeds into society,” he opined.

    As noted by the Vice Chancellor, all 16 disciplines have maintained consistent 100% accreditation classification over time.

    He expressed his thankfulness to the proprietor and Chancellor of Hezekiah University and the students for the sound achievements of the citadel of learning and joyful to be the Vice Chancellor to oversee the maiden convocation of the school.

    The Admissions Officer of the institution, Dr Chika Ogbufor disclosed that all students of the university gain from a scholarship of N100,000 from Daddy Hezekiah, saying that this highlight s the institution’s commitment to budget-friendliness and accessibility to tertiary education. And that Hezekiah University accepts school fees in two installments so that parents that can’t pay one-off can afford to send their children to school and that the university accepts the lowest school fees among private universities in the country.

    She also commended the proprietor for the forthcoming promotion of members of staff and increment in salaries that’s being paid timely.

    She also stated that members of staff from the lowest to the highest also enjoy unique incentives at the university, including gifts of clothing, money, and other items as part of the institution’s welfare initiatives. The incentives extends to the host community as part of the institution’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

    Admissions into the university are carried out through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), thereby guaranteeing admissions based on transparency, openness and competence.

    The Dean of Deans, Dr Alex Madu, further revealed the school’s accomplishments and gave details of how the graduates have been equipped to have positive effect in their respective areas of endeavour and the larger society.

    He averred that “the inaugural convocation of Hezekiah University Umudi, Nkwerre LGA, Imo state, will reset the benchmark for academic distinction, uprightness, and public participation which strengthens the citadel’s position as a catalyst for growth, advancement, and expansion.”

    The university recently featured a researcher from Imperial College London who trained staff and students on advanced biomedical research methods. This was done with the view of establishing collaboration with other international researchers and the possible introduction of biomedical courses such as Nursing. It also plans to introduce other faculties such as Law.

    The convocation lecture will be delivered by the Vice Chancellor of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Prof. Michaels Nnabugwu Okolie as the event is expected to draw captains of industry from all walks of life.

    The Federal Ministry of Education has reinforced its dedication to revitalizing Nigeria’s education sector through strategic planning, policy implementation, and accountability.

    Speaking at a three-day workshop on the 2025-2027 Medium-Term Sector Strategy (MTSS) and the 2025 Annual Work plan, Permanent Secretary Education Dr. Nasir Sani – Gwarzo represented by Dr Ejeh Usman Director of Polytechnics Education highlighted the MTSS framework’s role in aligning education initiatives with Nigeria’s Agenda 2050, aiming for national development and global competitiveness.

    The Permanent Secretary highlighted key priorities, which include strengthening governance and financing for better education service delivery, aligning policies with national development goals, and enhancing monitoring and evaluation for transparency.

    He further reiterated the Ministry’s vision to reposition Nigeria’s education sector for global competitiveness, ensuring that every investment translates.

    In her presentation, Mrs. Obianuju Anigbogu, Director of Educational Planning, Research, and Development (EPR&D) represented by Mr Mathew Nganjiozor Director Research Policy Statistics/NEMIS emphasized the importance of capacity building in MTSS budget preparation.

    She noted that a major challenge in aligning education planning with financial commitments is the lack of understanding of the MTSS process.

    To address this, the Ministry plans to track MTSS implementation across institutions, introducing a structured performance monitoring system with dashboards and quarterly reports. A performance reward system will also be introduced to recognize contributions.

    The workshop brought together key education stakeholders from all geopolitical zones, focusing on teacher effectiveness, MTSS alignment with national policy planning, infrastructure, and inclusive education.

    Stakeholder engagement and transparency in decision-making were also emphasized.This initiative is part of the Ministry’s efforts to transform Nigeria’s education sector

    Through its dedicated education Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) pillar, the bank recently undertook significant projects aimed at promoting quality education delivery across the country.

    In Benin-City, Edo State, Fidelity Bank recently renovated the library at Emotan College, Wire Road.

    This initiative, which was executed under the auspices of the Fidelity Helping Hands Program (FHHP), was championed by the Phoenix Inductee Class of Fidelity Bank.

    The FHHP allows Fidelity Bank staff to identify community needs, raise funds, and receive matching support from the bank to implement impactful projects.

    At the official handover ceremony, Ovie Mukoro, Regional Bank Head, Midwest 1, Fidelity Bank Plc, highlighted the alignment of the renovation project with the bank’s CSR pillars, emphasizing the promotion of quality education and youth empowerment.

    Mukoro stated, “The renovation project reflects the Bank’s commitment to enhancing the lives of its host communities through the dedication and generosity of its newly inducted staff who voluntarily contributed funds to support the project.”

    The Principal of Emotan Junior College, Mrs. Idukpaye Henrietta, expressed her gratitude, noting that the investment in the school is an investment in the nation’s future.

    She looked forward to a lasting partnership that would continue to uplift and empower the students. Similarly, Mrs. Sandra Iyalekhue, Acting Education Secretary, Oredo Local Government Education Authority (LGEA), commended Fidelity Bank for the kind gesture, noting that the project would contribute to the educational development of the students and promote research work.

    In Abuja, Fidelity Bank further demonstrated its CSR commitment by donating 40 tables and chairs to LEA School at the Federal Capital Territory.

    This initiative, also executed under the FHHP by the Prodigies Inductees Class, aims to support quality education delivery in a bid to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 4 – Quality Education.

    Meksley Nwagboh, Divisional Head, Brand and Communications, Fidelity Bank Plc, emphasized the importance of supporting education as a tool for societal improvement.

    He stated, “At Fidelity Bank, we recognize the importance of supporting education as a tool for improving society. Through initiatives like this, we aim to ensure that every child has access to essential educational resources and become an asset to their family, their community and the nation.”

    The headmaster of LEA School, Mr. Mohamed Musa, expressed his gratitude for the timely intervention, noting that the donation would address the critical need for adequate classroom seating, preventing students from having to sit on the floor during classes.

    He encouraged other corporations to follow Fidelity Bank’s lead and support quality education delivery.

    These initiatives come to join a long list of Fidelity Bank’s interventions in the education sector.

    It will be recalled that the bank launched the Read2Lead Initiative last year to foster a culture of reading and writing among young people.

    The bank also hosted a webinar targeted at businesses operating in the education sector, themed, “Maintaining Educational Standards Amidst Current Economic Realities”, in September 2024 as part of its strategy to improve the country’s education system.

     Two students of Osun State University have been awarded a sum of N273,000 in scholarship funds by Temvert Empowerment Foundation.

    The beneficiaries, Blessing Olushola, a 200-level student of Linguistics and Communication Studies and  Oluwapelumi Rotimi, a 300-level student of English and International Studies, received the funds at an award ceremony held on February 6th, 2025  at the institution’s College of Humanities and Culture, Ikire Campus.

    Speaking during the event, Temvert founder, Temitayo Olatunde stated that the scholarship which was designed as an avenue to give back to his alma mater will enable students focus on their education without financial constraints.

    Temitayo,  the UK-based graduate of English and International Studies who was represented by his team members, Margaret Adetoye and Adepitan Abdulrasheed added that the scholarship scheme is named after Professor Muyiwa Awodiya, in recognition of his positive impact on students’ lives.

    He further emphasized his foundation’s commitment to supporting and empowering students to achieve their full potential.

    “It is with great delight that I announce to you that we have awarded a N170,000 scholarship to Blessing Olushola and N103,000 to Oluwapelumi Rotimi. Having a scholarship scheme named after Prof. Muyiwa Awodiya under our foundation is also a means to recognise his impact on students’ life both academically and financially.

    ” Prof was my supervisor and I remember how he financially sponsored the printing and binding of the final year projects of all the students he supervised. This is just one of the thousands of humanitarian acts of Prof over the years.

    “At Temvert Foundation, we are committed to ensuring equal access to quality education and will continue to support students . With this award, the beneficiaries will be able to focus on their studies without financial burdens,” Temitayo stated.

    Speaking on behalf of the university management, the Sub-Dean of the College, Dr Saheed Ashafa appreciated the CEO and entire members of the foundation for reaching out to the students , soliciting for further collaboration between the foundation and the university.

    He said, ” We want to appreciate you for this brilliant gesture and we pray that your foundation will continue to grow stronger. We also appreciate the fact that the number of beneficiaries would be increased next time. We are happy that you remember where you left. God will continue to remember you too”.

    Similarly, the College Provost represented by Dr Rabiu Iyanda commended the CEO for not hesitating to give back to the society which nurtured him.

    “We want to appreciate the Temvert Foundation for deeming it fit to give back to where they started their career.

    It is a lesson to all of us. No matter how small it is, giving back to the community will be highly appreciated”, Rabiu stated.

    He subsequently admonished the beneficiaries to develop and harness their full potentials stating  that  “this scholarship is more or less a ball that has been thrown to you and you have to throw it back to other people”.he stated

    Polaris Bank and one of its strategic CSR partners, Evolve Trust Charity on Wednesday stormed Gbaja Girls (Junior and Senior) High School, Surulere, Lagos in continuation of its presentation of school essentials programme to selected public school students in the country.

    The partnership which birthed in 2021 and primarily focused on empowering the girl-child and their male counterparts has reached over 15,000 students across 35 public schools in nine states including Lagos, Kano, Kogi, Imo and FCT, Abuja.

    Amongst other things, the initiative includes empowering young learners with brain training techniques and emotional intelligence education alongside making and distributing user-sized school essentials (bags, uniforms, sandals, books, and pens).

    The initiative also captures training of teachers in the respective schools, all sponsored by the Bank.

    Speaking at the presentation on Wednesday, the Bank’s Executive Director, Corporate and Investment Banking, Mrs. Abimbola Ozomah emphasized that the Bank being a signatory to United Nations’ (UN) Principles for Responsible Banking aligns its practices and strategies with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Climate Agreement thus igniting its sustained interests in the training of the girl-child.

    According to data from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), there are about 10.5 million out of school children in Nigeria with six million of them being girls.

    “This event is not just about distributing educational materials but empowering girls for bigger roles because educated girls grow into informed women.

    At Polaris Bank, we are committed to bridging the educational gap, empowering girls and building sustainability aligning with global framework,” she said.

    The Executive Director further charged the students to embrace the opportunities inherent in education while stating that the Bank will stop at nothing to support them.

    “Education is most powerful tool at your disposal and you have to utilize it to the maximum. Polaris Bank will not relent in supporting this laudable mission to empower girls who will drive the needed change to better our country and world.

    This intervention is in line with the Bank’s ongoing sustainability efforts aimed at reducing out-of-school children population and increasing access to quality education, especially for the girl-child and we urge you all to take full advantage,” Ozoma noted.

    Also speaking, Programme Manager at Evolve Charity Trust, Ejeh Godwin thanked Polaris Bank for keying into the Trust’s mission of supporting the girl-child nationwide. Godwin noted that while the initiative commenced in 2020, Polaris Bank partnered in 2021 and the Bank has never for once backed out since then.

    “I want to specially appreciate Polaris Bank for their tremendous support since 2021 that the partnership started. We couldn’t have done this alone nor come this far without their support.

    We’ve expanded our reach and hope to even bring more schools in other states on board this year, all thanks to Polaris Bank,” Ejeh said.

    The Principal, Gbaja Girls Junior High School, Mrs Dabiri Nwabuoku Adetoun Iyabo in her remarks also appreciated Polaris Bank for including the school in the intervention programme.

    “I want to specially thank Polaris Bank on behalf of staff and students for finding us worthy of benefitting from this laudable programme.

    You can feel the energy in the hall that the students are happy and so are the staff.

    This has boosted our morale, and we are incredibly happy about it,” the Principal enthused.

    One of the beneficiaries and Assistant Senior Girl of the school, Bankole Oreofeoluwa Emmanuella also thanked the Bank for symbolic gesture while promising to put the items into judicious use.

    “My friends and I are happy about this gesture from Polaris Bank, and we can’t thank the Bank enough.

    These items will further ease our learning, and we promise to not only put them to judicious use, but imbibe good maintenance culture,” Bankole said.

    Highlight of the event was presentation of the items to students by officials of Polaris Bank and Evolve Charity Trust.
