    Group Faults Atiku’s Agenda To Sell Refineries

    The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) has criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar’s three-point agenda, which includes privatization of refineries, the rail sector, and the Nigerian Transmission Company (TCN).

    According to the union, it was challenging the former Vice President to a national television debate to explain how his regressive economic policies will benefit the people.

    Comrade Joe Ajaero, the union’s General Secretary, revealed this over the weekend in Abuja.
    “Our attention has been drawn to newspaper reports released by the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, outlining a three-point agenda aimed at privatizing refineries, rail, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), and breaking monopolies in all other infrastructure operations,” he said.

    According to him, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku was the Chairman of the National Council on Privatisation (NCP), a government committee tasked with overseeing the privatisation program launched by the Olusegun Obasanjo administration to deal with the disposal of state-owned enterprises.

    How many of the over 60 enterprises privatized since he became Chairman of the NCP in 1999 are operating optimally, he asked? From the glorified warehouse that is the Osogbo Steel rolling mill to the abysmal performance of the privatized Generation Companies (GenCos) and Distribution Companies (DisCos) eight (8) years after privatization.

    “Despite the Federal Government pumping in about N2 trillion as subsidy to these privately owned companies, power generation has nosedived from 4,000 megawatts to 2000 megawatts in nine years,” he added.

    “Who are these private companies’ ‘faceless’ owners, and why are they shrouded in such secrecy?” Many Nigerians have lost their jobs as a result of the privatisation agenda, many Nigerians have died as a result of non-payment of entitlements, many Nigerians are sick and hungry, and their children have been thrown out of school as the onslaught against the Nigerian masses in the name of privatisation continues.”

    Lagos State Govt starts putting in place plan to save energy for all Ministries in the State

    The Lagos State Government has started putting in place a plan to save energy and manage it for all of the Ministries, Departments, and Government Agencies in the State.

    Engr. Mukhtaar Tijani, the General Manager of the Lagos State Electricity Board, said in a statement that the government’s initiative is meant to improve operational efficiency and cut costs. This is in line with the “smart city ecosystem,” which is based on the smart use of energy.

    Tijani said that the State must improve its energy conservation and management to help her move toward redefining the energy mix and distribution systems. She said that the plan is one of the key recommendations from energy audits done on some government buildings.

    “It looks like this administration is putting together the infrastructure for a safe and resilient Smart City that will last. “Conserving energy and using it well should be a big part of the plan as a whole,” he said.

    The General Manager explained the importance of the initiative to the resilience of the city by saying that less energy use will lead to efficiency and energy sustainability in the State.

    Tijani said that the plan will figure out how much energy services are needed to improve the environment and lower energy costs by keeping resources from being used up.

    “Another important part of the plan is using smart energy sensors that can do more than one thing to get the right information and share it for predictive analytics. The General Manager said, “These data can be used to find and predict energy needs and give us valuable information during times of peak demand.”

    Tijani went on to say that the implementation exercise will also be a chance to educate the staff of different MDAs so they can make smart decisions about how to use energy and help the government come up with good solutions to energy problems.

    The General Manager said that the plan is to create a comprehensive portfolio of efficient and standard energy generation. He said that the exercise will help to show where other electrical installations in government buildings need to be fixed or updated.

    Tijani said, “The project will be done in stages across all the State’s facilities, such as general hospitals, primary health centres, and tertiary, secondary, and primary schools. It will also help MDAs set up ways to save energy and use it more efficiently.”

    NSCDC Destroys Five Illegal Refineries Distributing Adulterated Fuel In Nigeria

    Five refineries allegedly producing and distributing adulterated fuel across Nigeria’s states have been discovered and demolished.
    The illegal refineries were discovered, according to reports, in Delta State’s Delta South Local Government Area.

    In an operation led by the Commandant General’s Special Anti-Vandal Monitoring Unit (SAVMU), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) stormed and dislodged the reported refineries.

    According to reports, the security agency received information about the nefarious activities of vandals and oil thieves operating a large camp and acted quickly.

    During the operation, two (2) suspects were apprehended, while other collaborators escaped.

    According to an intelligence report made available to journalists on Monday, three individuals, one woman and two other men, own the illegal refineries.

    According to reports, the alleged owners have been apprehended and are currently in the custody of the NSCDC, where they are providing information to help with the investigation.

    Speaking about the operation, DCC Brah Umoru Samson, the Squad Commander, assured Nigerians that the SAVMU will not tolerate any act of economic sabotage, and warned all illegal operators to engage in legitimate business that does not violate the law or jeopardize the safety of the country’s Critical National Assets and Infrastructure.

    When their operations are finished, DCC Samson assured that the perpetrators will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

    He emphasized that the Squad will conduct a comprehensive manhunt for those still on the loose.

    According to him, the illegal refineries and other equipment used in the illegal business have been destroyed, and an investigation into the other criminals involved in the crime will be carried out with due diligence in order to bring them to justice.

    Kingsley Moghalu, a former deputy governor of Nigeria’s Central Bank, left the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Monday after losing the party’s presidential nomination.
    In a letter addressed to the party’s National Chairman, Okey Nwosu, Moghalu announced his decision to resign his membership.

    The former CBN Deputy Governor cited a lack of transparency in the party’s presidential primary as the reason for his departure.

    “I am writing to resign from the African Democratic Congress, effective immediately,” the letter reads.     “Despite the circular you issued to the primary a few days ago committing the party to provide transportation and lodging for delegates to and in Abeokuta, which we agreed would provide a level playing field for all presidential aspirants, the party under your leadership failed to do so.”

    “A few aspirants, including myself, donated to the ADC party account for this purpose, as requested by the party.” This apparent intentional failure allowed for massive electoral process abuses such as delegate capture and bribery of delegates.

    “This is just one of the many inconsistencies and lack of transparency and predictability in the party’s management that I had been complaining about for quite some time.”

    “As you know, I’ve consistently refused to join the APC or the PDP in order to avoid “cash-and-carry” politics. To stay in the ADC after what thousands of party members did in Abeokuta would be to endorse political corruption of the most heinous kind.

    “With the best of intentions, I joined the ADC in October 2021.     Three military officers participating in the Democracy Day Parade slumped in Eagle Square, Abuja, during the June 12 celebrations, creating palpable tension.

    They were thought to have passed out from exhaustion after standing for hours in one spot in the scorching sun.

    A network of young business leaders and aspiring entrepreneurs in Africa, Under 40 CEOs, has tasked Nigerian youths to play a more active role in politics and governance in order to address the country’s development challenges.

    The group also called on the government to integrate more brilliant young people into key leadership positions at national and state levels for inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

    Speaking recently at a forum organised by the group themed, Dinner with Needle Movers, Founder and Executive Director—Africa, Familusi Babajide, was quoted in a statement as saying, “By current estimates, up to 70 per cent of sub-Saharan Africa’s population is under the age of 30, representing about 806 million of the 1.151 billion people in this region. This demographic projection has significant implications for economic activity, public service provision, and state stability.”

    “As the group with the most at stake, young African leaders deserve to be part of the policy discussions that seek to find solutions to the challenges confronting the continent. More qualified youths must be drafted into leadership positions in presidencies and state governments, parliaments, corporate boardrooms, as well as civil society and faith-based organizations to assist in conceptualizing and driving critical development initiatives.”

    In his remark, the guest speaker at the event and oil business mogul, Tonye Cole, noted that the lack of visionary leadership and accountability remain the biggest challenges to development in Nigeria and, indeed, all of Africa.

The urgency of these efforts cannot be overemphasized, as the youths have the most to lose if solutions are not enacted.”

The price of success is building an economy that will move our youths from the streets to express their talents and their gifts. Oftentimes, a lot of us get frustrated by the system and just want to pack up and go.”

    President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF) and other party members to work together and ensure victory for Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the party.

    Mr Buhari, in a letter addressed to the Chairman of PGF, Atiku Bagudu, the governor of Kebbi State, said Mr Tinubu is no stranger to the governors.

    The excerpts of the letter was released by the Senior Special Assistant to the President, Garba Shehu, on Thursday.

    In the letter, Mr Buhari commended the Kebbi State governor, who served as the chairman of the election committee of the just-concluded convention, for his professional and efficient conduct of the primary election.

    Kaduna’s state government has confirmed that 32 villagers were killed in the Kajuru Local Government Area.

    According to a statement made public on Thursday by Samuel Aruwan, the commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs,

    the villages of Dogon Noma, Ungwan Sarki and Ungwan Maikori in Kajuru Local Government Area were attacked on Sunday by bandits,” the statement said.

    There have been reports that the bandits rode into the area on motorcycles and set fire to a number of homes before killing a number of the residents.
    There has been a constant flow of information from security agencies and traditional leaders in the areas since Sunday’s attack.

    32 people have been confirmed dead as of this report, according to a statement from the organisation.
    A report claiming that terrorists used a helicopter to kill the victims of the attack was published while the government mourned the gruesome killing and destruction of homes.

    At least one notable terrorist has been wounded in the last 72 hours and is being sought by security forces in the same general area.”

    Additionally, several kidnapped victims, including an expatriate kidnapped at a mining site, were rescued after a fierce battle with bandits.

    After learning of the attack, Governor Nasir El-Rufa’i expressed his condolences and prayed for God’s mercy on the families of the victims.” According to the statement, he also offered his deepest sympathies to the victims’ families.
