    The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has noted with justified amusement the recent statement by former Sokoto State Governor and PDP chieftain, Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, in which he claimed that the so-called “battle to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu” is a “national consensus” and not a “northern conspiracy.”

    This is yet another failed attempt to rewrite the obvious truth: Nigerians overwhelmingly rejected the opposition in 2023 and continue to support a government that is focused on performance, not propaganda.

    President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was not imposed – he was elected by Nigerians from every region, faith, and background.

    And unlike the noise-makers in the opposition, he has hit the ground running. From economic stabilization efforts to legacy infrastructure projects, the Renewed Hope Agenda is already yielding visible results.

    Halfway into his first term, the entire nation is beginning to appreciate the clarity, courage, and competence of his administration.

    Let it be known: there is no national consensus to unseat President Tinubu. What is emerging is a national consensus to support good governance – and when the time comes in 2027, Nigerians will not hesitate to reaffirm their trust in a leader who delivers.

    As for Tambuwal, he would do well to concentrate on clearing his name before the anti-graft agencies, which still have open questions regarding his tenure as Governor of Sokoto State.

    Recent revelations have not painted him in a flattering light, and no amount of press statements can launder the trail of allegations surrounding his stewardship.

    Even more amusing is the opposition’s endless talk of “consensus” ahead of 2027. We watch with close interest as they struggle to build what will be, no doubt, an elusive alliance – sabotaged by their own greed, inflated egos, unbridled desperation for power, and self-righteousness.

    It will be a cold day in hell before the likes of Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, Goodluck Jonathan,Nasir El-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and others concede to one another.

    Their ambitions are incompatible, their interests conflicting, and their loyalty lies only in the direction of personal advantage.

    We, the ruling party, wait with bated breath as the comedy movie hits cinemas nationwide. Nigerians are watching too – popcorn in hand.

    In the meantime, the APC remains focused on delivering for the Nigerian people. While the opposition plays musical chairs and media politics, we are building roads, creating jobs, fixing power, reforming the economy, and laying the foundation for a stronger, more prosperous Nigeria.

    The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) notes with growing bewilderment the increasingly opportunistic commentary that has become Mr. Peter Obi’s political trademark.

    His latest remark – questioning President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s private vacation and linking it, quite carelessly, to the nation’s security situation – is yet another instance of his compulsive need to insert himself into every national conversation, regardless of relevance, accuracy, or basic decorum.

    So we ask, sincerely: Must Peter Obi comment on everything or anything?

    Nigerians are not deceived. Mr. Obi’s constant moralizing of the President’s every move smacks less of patriotism and more of a desperate grasp for relevance. In his attempt to cast himself as the nation’s ever-watchful conscience, he consistently cheapens the seriousness of governance and reduces complex national issues to mere talking points.

    Let us be clear: President Tinubu, like any responsible leader, remains fully briefed and in active communication with his security and intelligence teams – even while on a brief vacation. Governance does not grind to a halt simply because a leader takes time to rest—especially in an age where secure, real-time communication is always within reach. Mr. Obi knows this, but evidently prefers posturing over pragmatism.

    One would expect a former governor and presidential aspirant to appreciate that effective leadership also involves knowing when to speak, how to speak – and when to exercise the discipline to remain silent. Sadly, Mr. Obi appears to believe that his political relevance lies in reacting to every government action or inaction – regardless of context or consequence.

    It is perhaps time for Mr. Obi’s handlers to become more attentive to their principal – for the sake of both his wellbeing and his public perception. A statesman cannot afford to sound perpetually agitated, misinformed, or out of touch with the responsibilities of leadership in a modern democracy.

    While this administration works around the clock to rebuild the economy, secure the nation, and restore confidence in public institutions, Mr. Obi continues to offer little more than soundbites, sermons, and reactionary commentary. No policy, no proposals – just perpetual complaints.

    This is not leadership. This is not patriotism. This is noise.

    We urge Mr. Obi to exercise restraint and stop undermining serious national discourse with knee-jerk statements crafted for social media applause. Nigeria needs a credible, constructive opposition – not a professional Complainer -in-Chief since his dream of becoming a Commander-in-Chief has remained a nightmare.

    If he has meaningful contributions to make, let him bring them forward – thoughtfully and responsibly. Otherwise, silence remains an honourable option.

    As for us in the APC, and under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, we remain focused on the serious business of governance – not the daily performance theatre of political opportunists.

    The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is compelled to respond to yet another reckless and economically incoherent statement by Mr. Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State and failed presidential candidate of the Labour Party, who recently declared that “revenue targets are meaningless amid rising poverty.”

    Such a statement, coming from someone who still parades himself as an economic reformer, is not only disappointing- it is downright embarrassing. It reinforces what discerning Nigerians have come to realize: Peter Obi’s rhetoric is long on populism but woefully short on substance. His post-election bitterness continues to cloud his judgment, making him a consistent source of confusion rather than clarity in national discourse.

    Obi Is Wrong – and He Knows It

    To suggest that government revenue targets are “meaningless” in the face of poverty is not just laughably inaccurate; it is economically reckless. Every serious government- local, state, or federal- sets revenue targets because without revenue, you simply cannot fund education, healthcare, infrastructure, or the very poverty alleviation Obi pretends to champion.

    The Lagos APC finds it deeply ironic that this statement comes from a man who, as governor, prided himself on “saving money,” yet failed to invest significantly in long-term infrastructure or the people. What exactly does Obi think drives social investment if not sustainable, well-managed revenue generation?

    Peter Obi is old enough, experienced enough, and- one would hope-intelligent enough to know that this kind of economic ignorance will haunt his legacy. Long after the lights of the 2027 campaign have faded, Mr. Obi will look back on moments like this with regret, knowing he used his platform not to elevate the national debate but to pollute it with simplistic soundbites.

    Lagos: The Model Obi Can’t Deny

    Lagos State, under the leadership of the APC, is the clearest proof that targeted revenue generation can deliver tangible benefits to the people. We have built world-class infrastructure, improved public transportation, attracted foreign investment, and driven job creation-not by ignoring revenue targets, but by setting and achieving them.

    Unlike Peter Obi’s Anambra, which he governed with a miser’s calculator and little vision, Lagos has shown that economic growth and poverty alleviation are not mutually exclusive-they are two sides of the same coin, driven by disciplined revenue management.

    Populism is Not Policy

    Mr. Obi should stop trying to stay relevant by making wild, headline-grabbing remarks that collapse under the weight of scrutiny. Governance is not activism, and policy is not performance art. Nigerians are beginning to see through his carefully packaged brand of economic quackery-and many are asking: if this is the kind of thinking he would have brought to Aso Rock, then perhaps the country truly dodged a bullet.

    Final Word

    Peter Obi has made a habit of weaponizing poverty for political gain, without offering any coherent pathway out of it. To dismiss revenue targets in a time of fiscal constraint is not just bad economics- it is dangerous populism. We expect more from someone who still fantasizes about leading a complex economy like Nigeria.

    The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) issues this statement in the spirit of national compassion, political maturity, and honest reflection.

    We extend a humble plea to the Nigerian public: to exercise restraint, empathy, and above all, understanding- as Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai transitions from a once-formidable technocrat to a political ghostwriter and part-time opposition whisperer.

    This is not an attack. It is a plea for mercy- a call to consider the emotional toll that post-power irrelevance must inflict on a man who once projected himself as the blueprint for modern governance, but who now drifts in the wilderness of political solitude and contradiction.

    A Legacy Built on Bulldozers and Bloodshed

    Mallam El-Rufai’s public career began with demolitions- both physical and institutional. As Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, he approached governance like a sledgehammer, flattening homes and communities in the name of restoring the “master plan.”

    But it was in Kaduna State, as Governor from 2015 to 2023, that his legacy took its darkest form.
    Insecurity and the Inconvenient Casualties

    During his tenure, Kaduna became synonymous with bloodshed, displacement, and trauma. The state recorded some of the highest incidents of banditry, ethno-religious violence, and communal killings in the country.

    Rather than decisive action and empathy, citizens were met with PowerPoint slides, official reports, and government statements steeped in deflection and denial. While rural communities bled, policy remained abstract. While lives were lost, the administration produced lectures- not leadership.
    Selective Reformism and Institutional Amnesia

    Kaduna’s education sector bore the brunt of El-Rufai’s flawed reformist zeal. Sacking 22,000 teachers made headlines, but what followed was neither a renaissance nor recovery – just more headlines.

    Exam failures became the norm. Schools were repainted and restructured, but with no sustainable roadmap. Meanwhile, his economic and infrastructure policies prioritized the elite, leaving much of Kaduna’s population in fear, poverty, and neglect.
    Exit Wounds and Post-Government Identity Crisis

    Since leaving office, Mallam El-Rufai appears to be suffering from a chronic case of Post-Gubernatorial Personality Drift (PGPD). One moment a progressive, the next a cultural custodian. One day aligned with revolutionaries, the next day dining with the establishment.

    In his desperation to stay relevant, he has assumed the role of a political soothsayer or marabout, predicting winners and losers of the 2027 Presidential Elections with the reckless confidence of a drunken gambler shouting into the void. He now writes open letters to imaginary enemies, leaks his own WhatsApp chats, and hosts solo Twitter Spaces – like a man clearly in dire need of help.

    A Curious Ambition Worth Addressing

    We have also heard- courtesy of the ever-reliable political grapevine – that Mallam El-Rufai may be nursing a presidential ambition in the not-so-distant future.

    While ambition is the fuel of politics, we humbly suggest an alternative platform far better suited for his recent trajectory:
    The Presidency of the Internally Displaced Politicians (IDP).
    It would be a fitting crown, and to be fair, he would be in great company – surrounded by fellow wanderers of relevance, ideological orphans, and retired revolutionaries searching for a comeback script.
    A Gentle Appeal to the Public

    The Lagos APC urges Nigerians to treat Mallam El-Rufai’s post-office oscillations with a mix of patience, sympathy, and if necessary, controlled laughter.

    Let us not mock his condition. Let us instead recognize it for what it is: the terminal stage of relevance withdrawal syndrome – a common affliction among those who once ruled with clenched fists and now type with trembling fingers.

    Conclusion: Legacy Is Not a Thread

    Here in Lagos, we define legacy not by demolition or despair, but by service, humility, and sustained peace. While we address the daily realities of a growing megacity with vision and resolve, others seek to remain visible through tweets and tantrums.

    Lagos is not just a city. It is Nigeria in microcosm — an urban miracle built not on oil wells or political favoritism, but on vision, hard work, sacrifice, and inclusiveness.

    The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) issues this statement to reassert the indispensable role of Lagos in the Nigerian federation and to correct misguided narratives suggesting the state enjoys disproportionate attention or unmerited privilege from the federal government.

    Lagos: The Engine Room of the Federation

    No other state in Nigeria bears more of the weight of national productivity than Lagos. It contributes:
    • Over 20% of Nigeria’s GDP
    • Approximately 55% of the nation’s VAT revenue
    • 65% of corporate headquarters in the country
    • 70% of maritime imports and logistics activity

    These are not speculative figures — they are hard data, backed by facts and sustained by deliberate governance, not federal indulgence.

    A True National Capital in Spirit

    Long after Abuja took over as the official capital, Lagos has remained Nigeria’s de facto capital of commerce, culture, and continuity. It is where Nigeria meets itself — in its beauty, its complexity, and its ambition.

    Nowhere is this more evident than in Lagos’ unique ability to welcome all Nigerians as full participants in the Lagos story, regardless of state of origin, language, faith, or political affiliation.

    Lagos: The Retirement Home of the Nation’s Statesmen

    Indeed, Lagos is not just where Nigerians come to start their dreams — it is where many come to retire in peace.

    From retired heads of service to former governors, ministers, generals, diplomats, and captains of industry, Lagos has quietly become the retirement capital of Nigeria. These distinguished men and women, many of whom built their careers elsewhere, return to Lagos for one reason: it feels like home.

    In no other state would public servants from other regions live, thrive, and be respected in such large numbers — without fear, without prejudice, and with full access to the fruits of society.

    That alone speaks volumes about Lagos’ character, maturity, and national appeal and essence.

    The Toll of Being Everyone’s Home

    However, this open-armed embrace comes with tremendous pressure. As a megacity with a population of over 22 million, Lagos bears the weight of:

    Infrastructure Overload
    • Road networks, bridges, drainage, and transportation are under constant strain, requiring continuous reinvestment — often funded internally.

    Healthcare Demand
    • Public hospitals serve not just Lagosians, but hundreds of thousands of health seekers from other states, stretching resources and staff.

    Educational Stress
    • Public schools absorb the children of internal migrants daily, necessitating constant expansion, teacher recruitment, and infrastructural upgrades.

    Environmental Pressure
    • Lagos battles coastal erosion, waste management, and urban pollution— made worse by unregulated population growth and migration.

    Security & Policing
    • As a magnet for opportunity, Lagos must also confront crime, urban conflict, and overstretched policing — often with state-funded security innovations, like the Lagos Security Trust Fund.

    Housing Deficit
    • Lagos continues to build and incentivize housing, but population growth continues to outpace supply, driving up costs and informal settlements.

    Social Welfare
    • The state delivers extensive support to the unemployed, the elderly, widows, artisans and the underserved, many of whom are not originally from Lagos.

    And yet, despite these enormous pressures, Lagos remains functional, progressive, peaceful, and growing.

    Lagos Has Earned Its Place — Not Inherited It

    It is laughable, if not unfortunate, to suggest that Lagos is over-pampered by the federal government. In 2024, Lagos received just ₦531.1 billion in federal allocation — about 3.48% of the total shared from the federation account, even though it generates over 55% of VAT and more than a third of the country’s non-oil revenue.

    What Lagos has earned is not privilege — but respect.

    Let Lagos Be Applauded, Not Attacked

    Lagos is not a regional city. It is a national asset, a federating hub, and a home to all Nigerians, whether as traders in Alaba, executives in Ikoyi, artists in Yaba, or retirees in Lekki.

    This is My Lagos. Your Lagos. Our Lagos.

    To those who envy its rise or resent its recognition, we offer an invitation: come and learn. Replicate the Lagos model. Compete in policy, not propaganda.

    But above all, tell the truth:

    Lagos is not over-pampered. Lagos is overburdened, over-performing, and under-credited.

    The Call for a Special Status: A Matter of National Survival

    Lagos is not asking for pity. It is asking for recognition and responsibility.

    The call for a Special Status for Lagos is neither new nor partisan. It is rooted in logic, in data, and in the national interest. From the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and successive National Assemblies, the need for Lagos to be formally supported as Nigeria’s economic and demographic hub has been widely acknowledged — but not yet acted upon.

    Conclusion: A Call to History

    Lagos has given much — to Nigeria’s economy, to its unity, to its people. It has carried burdens, absorbed shocks, and provided platforms of opportunity for millions.

    We urge the National Assembly to rise above regional politics and partisan considerations, and do what is right, what is fair, and what is overdue:

    To finally accord Lagos the Special Status it has earned and long deserved.

    Let this generation of lawmakers be remembered as the one that acted with foresight. Let posterity write of a National Assembly that understood not only the needs of now, but the imperatives of the future.

    Because in truth:

    The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) wishes to register its voice and commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his bold, deliberate, and unmatched commitment to inclusive governance since assuming office on May 29, 2023.

    We observed with dismay the recent efforts of the disillusioned opposition to change the narrative of an unprecedented inclusivity in governance across the various sectors including appointments, gender balancing, youth inclusiveness and the spread of infrastructures across the various regions.

    Two years into his administration, it is evident that President Tinubu has gone beyond the limitations of ethnic, religious, regional, gender, and partisan lines to offer Nigeria a leadership style rooted in fairness, representation, and meritocracy.

    A Truly Representative Cabinet

    From the outset, President Tinubu made it abundantly clear that his government would be a true reflection of the Nigerian federation.

    His cabinet — one of the most diverse and competent in the country’s democratic history — has ensured that all six geopolitical zones are equitably represented, not in name alone, but through meaningful, impactful participation.

    Women now occupy central roles in shaping national policy, and persons from minority and historically marginalized communities have been appointed to positions that reflect the dignity and value of every Nigerian life.

    A Presidency Above Partisanship

    Perhaps one of the most commendable aspects of President Tinubu’s leadership is his willingness to reach across the aisle.

    In appointing competent Nigerians from opposition parties, civil society, and the private sector, the President has shown that governance is not about partisanship but progress.

    This inclusive strategy has fostered a national climate of collaboration, idea-driven policymaking, and renewed public trust. It sends a clear message: Nigeria belongs to all of us.

    Empowering the Youth, Embracing Innovation

    President Tinubu’s administration has also opened the doors of leadership to the younger generation. With several appointments of individuals under 40 into strategic roles, the administration is not only recognizing youth capacity but structurally empowering them to help shape the Nigeria of the future.

    One will recall that 29months ago, the insecurity situation of Nigeria was so alarming that farmers deserted their communities just to be alive. A situation that crumbled Nigeria’s agricultural bragging rights locally and internationally.

    Today, due to the unrelenting efforts of these three silent Champions (Nuhu, Matawalle, Bago) in their various selfless services as National Security Adviser, Minister of state Defence and Governor of Niger state, positions they have used to widen the scope of democratic dividends and services beyond their specified offices, Nigerians have witnessed drastic reduction in terrorism, banditry and cost of Food in the last few months.

    The Emerging Leaders Forum has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a Visionary Leader with Broad Appeal for appointing Nuhu Ribadu as National Security Adviser and Bello Matawalle as Minister.

    What sets these men apart from other Northern office holders is their ability to connect deeply with people from all walks of life, provide solutions to problems no matter how difficult the challenges are and unhesitatingly advocating for Renewed Hope and President Tinubu in the dark and in the open without mincing words.

    There social acceptance and popularity are not confined to political affiliations or partisan divides; rather, they reflect their genuine concern for the welfare, security and wellbeing of the people.

    They have turned nightmares to opposition leaders and actors both in the North and even the southern part of Nigeria.

    This broad acceptance can be attributed to their inclusive approach, which emphasizes collaboration and mutual respect for all.

    Of course, it is believed that true leadership transcends politics and is rooted in the ability to unite individuals around shared goals and aspirations, even though their opponents have sworn never to acknowledge any good from them.

    These Commanders of Renewed Hope Mantra have championed numerous initiatives within their states, region and nationally, aimed at improving the lives of the people.

    Most Nigerians are not surprised at their exploits as their previous tenured roles are marked by tangible achievements in areas such as infrastructural developments, economic and financial security reforms, youth empowerment, laudable lawmaking records, education and healthcare development.

    If there are three most committed Northern political office holders that are working round the clock to see that President Tinubu succeeds, give Nuhu Ribadu, Bello Matawalle and Umar Bago their flowers, they have shown capacity, commitment, loyalty, diligence and dedication to a course they believe in.

    As Nigeria continues to navigate the evolving landscape of power supply, the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) is proud to highlight its significant strides and victories within the power sector, marking a moment of progress amidst the challenges faced.

    While recent reports have reflected “mixed fortunes” in power supply, with occasional disruptions, it is undeniable that substantial improvements have been made over the past few years, thanks to the leadership and policies of the APC government.

    The government has invested heavily in both the infrastructure and human capital needed to improve electricity generation, distribution, and transmission.

    Although the opposition would rather gloat and celebrate occasional and negligible pitfalls as if they are citizens of another country, it has become imperative to highlight the successes of this seemingly jinxed sector in line with the electoral promises of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and in tandem with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

    Through key reforms and partnerships with both public and private entities, the APC has been able to expand the country’s power generation capacity, reduce losses, and stabilize the grid in ways that were previously thought impossible.

    Key Achievements:
    * Increased Power Generation Capacity: The APC government has overseen an increase in national grid power generation, with the addition of new power plants and the revitalization of existing ones.

    This has led to an increase in overall supply to households, industries, and businesses across the nation.

    * Expansion of Transmission and Distribution Networks: A significant portion of the APC’s focus has been on upgrading Nigeria’s outdated transmission and distribution infrastructure, which has long been a bottleneck for reliable electricity delivery.

    Improved network connectivity has allowed more power to reach urban and rural areas alike.

    * Private Sector Partnerships and Investments: By encouraging private sector participation through innovative financing models and strategic public-private partnerships, the APC has unlocked fresh capital to address the power sector’s long-standing issues.

    These partnerships are designed to ensure both sustainable growth and more consistent power delivery.

    * Renewable Energy Integration: In line with global trends, the APC administration has made strides in incorporating renewable energy sources such as solar and hydroelectric power into the national grid, diversifying the energy mix and increasing energy resilience.

    Though challenges remain, including persistent supply disruptions in some regions, these gains signify an upward trajectory for the power sector.

    The APC remains committed to building on this progress, ensuring that the nation continues to move toward a more reliable and efficient energy future.

    A Brighter Future Ahead:
    The path ahead may still have hurdles to overcome, but with the continued efforts of the APC, the Nigerian power sector is on track for even more successes.

    The party remains focused on finalizing ongoing power sector reforms, improving grid stability, and ensuring the sustainable delivery of electricity to every corner of Nigeria.

    The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has observed with concern the recent remarks made by Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, in which he accused the APC and the Federal Government of prioritizing politics over governance ahead of the 2027 elections.

    While we fully respect the right of opposition leaders to express their views, we find it both ironic and regrettable that such a statement would come from Governor Mohammed — a man whose presidential ambition has been unceremoniously truncated by the zoning realities within his own party, the PDP.

    We understand the frustration that can arise when one’s aspirations are dashed by internal party dynamics, especially in a political structure as confused and directionless as today’s PDP.

    It is no secret that Governor Mohammed had harboured presidential ambitions — ambitions that have now been zoned out of his reach by a party that continues to struggle with leadership, cohesion, and a clear sense of purpose.

    Rather than redirect that personal disappointment toward baseless attacks on the APC and the Federal Government, we encourage Governor Mohammed to channel his energy into addressing the pressing developmental needs of the good people of Bauchi State.

    Under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC remains fully focused on its governance agenda — with bold reforms in the economy, security, infrastructure, and institutional development.

    This administration has chosen to face the tough challenges of nation-building head-on, while some in the opposition are busy grandstanding in the media and chasing shadows.

    We also urge Governor Mohammed to look to Lagos as an example of what consistent, visionary, and people-centred governance under the APC can achieve. Governance is not a press statement; it is the hard work of delivering real results.

    The APC is not distracted by 2027. When the time for elections comes, our performance will be our campaign.
