    The grand finale of the highly anticipated Season 5 of the Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA Chairman’s Cup took place on Wednesday, September 3, at the newly constructed Jide Sanwo-Olu Arena, located at Ilupeju Secondary School.

    The event brought together young athletes from various categories across different parts of the state, showcasing their talents and competitive spirit in a celebration of sportsmanship and community.

    Investigator news reports that this year, participants competed in five categories: Under 10, Under 15, Under 17, and Free Age for both male and female divisions. The winners were Fortune FA (U10), HB Utility (U15), Starlight FA (U17), Ghetto Tigers Ladies (Female Category), and Ghetto Tigers (Free Age Category).

    In a display of camaraderie, a novelty match was played between the political staff and the council staff of the LCDA, which ended in a goalless draw, further emphasizing the spirit of unity that the Chairman’s Cup embodies.

    Hon. Seyi Jakande even earned the title of Man of the Match, impressing spectators with his football skills.

    Expressing his delight at the impressive turnout, Jakande reiterated his campaign promise to maintain the Chairman’s Cup as a platform for engaging youth in the community.

    “Sports is not just a pastime; it is a powerful tool for empowerment,” he emphasized. “Through initiatives like the Chairman’s Cup, we are not only nurturing talents but also fostering discipline and teamwork among our youth.”

     

    Jakande encouraged all participants to maintain their enthusiasm for sports, assuring them that next year’s tournament will be even larger and more inclusive.

    “I assure you that next year will be bigger. We are committed to providing more opportunities for our young athletes to shine,” he added.

    Hon. Seyi Jakande, Executive Chairman of Òdì-Olowo Ojuwoye LCDA,has embarked on a community tour on Monday 25, August 2025,that showcased his administration’s commitment to empowering the youth and fostering community development.

    The tour featured visits to summer Boot Camps, a proposed football pitch site, and a Permanent Voter Card Registration Centre.

    Investigator news reports that Hon Jakande visited the summer Boot Camp situated at Kosybethel, Ajenifuja St, Off Adesiyan St in Ilupeju, where he commended the instructors for their efforts in equipping young minds with essential 21st-century tools.

    He thereafter proceeded to another Boot Camp located at St. Martins, Damengoro Street in Mushin, where primary school students are engaged in training for digital literacy, coding, and various tech skills.

    During his address at the camp, Hon. Jakande emphasized, “Education is the foundation of progress. These camps ensure our children are not left behind in the global digital economy,” and he pledged to expand such initiatives throughout the LCDA.

    Jakande also inspected the proposed site for a modern football pitch at Nusaraudeen Primary School on Ayantuga Street, aimed at nurturing local talent and promoting grassroots sports.

    Investigator news gathered that the football pitch set for completion by the fourth quarter of 2025,will feature artificial turf and spectator stands.

    “Sports unite communities and keep our youth productive. This pitch will be a hub for future champions,” he asserted.

    Next,he visited the ongoing Permanent Voter Card (PVC) Registration Centre at Ayantuga (Party Secretariat), encouraging residents to take the opportunity to exercise their democratic rights. “Engagement in our democratic process is vital for community growth,” he stated.

    In a significant announcement, he revealed plans for a mass distribution of free GCE (General Certificate Examination) forms across the LCDA, set to start the following week. “Education must be accessible to all. This initiative will support our students in achieving academic excellence,” he affirmed.

    The Chairman’s tour was strengthened by a high powered team,including the Vice Chairman, Hon Niyi Awodogan; Leader of the House Hon. Olamilekan Adeyi, Deputy Leader Hon. Adeosun Haruna, Council Manager Mrs Afolake Otenaike; Council Treasurer Mr. Mujitabah Rufai.

    Others are the Council Engineer Mr. Giwa; Councillors Hon. Ipaye Ibrahim, Hon. Adisa Rahman, and Hon. Akinniyi Lookmon; his Chief of Staff Mr. Taiwo Ogungbe; and several key officials such as HRO Mr. Lawal Rafiu, HOD Information Mr. Ayodele Kayode, HOD Environment Mrs. Kemi Fawole, Imam Rasheed (Imam Ọjà), Clerk of the House Hon.     Joseph Street have been officially crowned winners of the maiden edition of the Lagos Street Soccer Competition Oshodi 2025 which came to a thrilling close on Sunday, August 10,2025, as fans witnessed an action-packed finale that brought the tournament to a memorable end.

    The grassroots soccer street competition organized by Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had sixteen teams from the nooks and crannies of Oshodi-Isolo, slugged it out for the mouth-watering prizes to remain four teams for the yesterday’s final matches.

    The grand finale kicked off with the third-place match between Wahabi Larinde Street and Bello Street where Wahabi Larinde won the 3rd place match by 2-1 to claim the bronze medal in a dominant performance that thrilled their supporters.

    Goals from Quadri Oja of jersey number 8 and Lanre Kushimo of jersey number 3 gave Wahabi Larinde the bronze medal, while Oyewole Olabisi from Bello Street, jersey number 7 who equally won the man of the match award scored the consolation goal.

    But the highlight of the evening was the much-anticipated final match between Joseph Street and Osho Street. In a stunning start, Joseph Street scored the first goal,8mins into the game through Femi Obadeye, jersey number 9.

    The early goal set the tone for a fiercely competitive encounter, with both teams giving their all in a bid for the title,despite several attempts from Osho Street, Joseph Street held their ground and in the 29mins of the game, Joseph Street scored the second goal from Osimehin Emmanuel, jersey number 3 to emerge as champions of the 2025 tournament.

    The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu,who was ably represented by the General Manager of the Lagos State Planning and Environmental Monitoring Agency (LASPEMA), Tpl Daisi Oso,reiterated that his administration will continue to encourage youth participation and sports development to build a sane society.

    Sanwo-Olu,who was excited at the level of unity and togetherness the grassroot sports has unified the youths of Oshodi stressed that his government “would not leave any stone unturned in terms of using the instrumentality of sports to develop every nook and cranny of the state.”

    The governor who was the special guest used the occassion to pledge his continued support to grassroots sports development in Lagos State.

    He said that the gesture was part of his administration’,the “Theme Plus agenda “in promoting grassroot development.

    “Currently, Nigeria is laden with various kinds of instabilities such as political, ethnic, and religious violence, and there is no doubt that youths are now at the centre of these vices. This is because the love of sporting activities among the youths has been replaced by other endeavours like internet fraud, drug abuse, armed robbery, and some other vices.”

    “This shows that the youths are yearning for more sporting activities and that our administration is really touching the heart of the youths especially as it concerns football “he said

    While extolling the Senior Special Assistant on Grassroot Sports Development,Hon Atewogboye Adebanji for his contributions and achievements, Sanwo Olu called on the youths to be more focused and resilient.

    Reports has it that the 7-day Street Soccer Competition saw thrilling matches, stunning goals, and enthusiastic fans, where some outstanding players were also recognized for their performances in different category awards as best team, best player, highest goal scorer, young footballer of the match to mention few.

    The atmosphere at the venue was electric, with an enthusiastic crowd turning out in large numbers to support their teams. A live band featuring drummers and saxophonists kept the energy up throughout the match, while a DJ lifted the mood during halftime and pre-game intervals with lively music.

    As with the opening ceremony, security remained a top priority. Uniformed officers were stationed at every entry point and throughout the venue, ensuring a safe and well-coordinated experience for all.

    The event was attended by top dignitaries, including the Governor of the State,Mr Babajide Sanwo Olu who was ably represented by the General Manager of the Lagos State Planning and Environmental Monitoring Agency (LASPEMA), Tpl Daisi Oso,the local government Chairman of Oshodi-Isolo LGA, Otunba Kehinde Oloyede-Almoroof represented by one of his aides, Hon. Gideon Balogun,the APC apex leader of the area, Comrade Bamidele Ogunshakin,a representative of the State Exco, Hon. Israel Akiode (Osha),the CDC Chairman.

    Others are ward chairmen and LGA Excos of All Progressive Congress (APC),including the present and former councilors of Shogunle, Ogunoloko, Ewu and Igbehinadun wards of Oshodi-Isolo local government marked their present in the remarkable event.

    Speaking to newsmen  Hon. Israel Akiode (Osha), expressed gratitude to the Executive Governor of Lagos State for bringing such initiative especially to the people of Oshodi while pledging their unalloyed support to his administration.

    He also commended Hon Skibanj for taking the youths to heart as he has embark on various sporting activities that will bring the youths together.

    The Executive Chairman of Oshodi LGA Otunba Kehinde Oloyede Almoroof who was ably represented by his aide,Hon Gideon balogun thank the Governor for such initiative and bringing the maiden edition to the people of Oshodi.

    ” As you can see, the atmosphere is wonderful, people are happy because sports is a unifier. Sports unify the youths and we are happy that he is bringing such a laudable program to Oshodi at this time”.

    ” This activity will unify the youths, instead of indulging in drug abuse or any youths vices,this will go a way in ensuring that our youths come together for one purpose.” he said

    The Council boss went further to encourage the youths to see sports activities as a yardstick for peaceful co-existence among themselves while pledging that he will develop grassroot sports to the fullest in this present dispensation.

    A resident of Oshodi,Kazeem Ogbeyinka stated that the event is well organized as he applauded Hon Atewogboye Adebanji for coming up with such initiative, noting that through this measure all the youths are been assembled to speak with one voice.

    Kazeem opined that this sporting activities will promote unity and cooperation among the youths even as many talents are discovered. He called on the youths to embrace this privileged given to them so as to experience more of this programs.

    Also lending his voice, the PRO Oshodi/Mafoluku/Shogunle youth forum,Ayinde Olawale called on all the leaders to emulate Hon Skibanj so as to curb crime among the youths by introducing more programs that would promote unity among the youths while urging the government to introduce more productive programs for the youths.

    Throughout the tournament,Hon Atewogboye Adebanji reinforced its commitment to grassroots football and youth development.

    Highlight of the event was the cash presentation to the winner of the Lagos Street Soccer Competition as the winner was presented with the cash award of N500,000,the 1st runner up went home with N250,000 and the 3rd place winner went home with N100,000.

    Other prizes won at the event was the young player of the tournament went to Adekogbe Abdusamod,man of the match and highest goal scorer went to Rasaq Mustapha and the team of the match went to Joseph Street.

    This thrilling match showcases the skills and teamwork of the participating teams, highlighting the initiative’s potential to nurture young talents and promote community engagement in Lagos State.

    Investigator news reports that this thrilling match is part of the larger Lagos Street Soccer Stars Initiative, launched by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu to promote grassroots sports development, which provides a platform for young talents to shine, and reduce crime and social vices among youths.

    With the introduction of the “Lagos Street Soccer game organized by the Governor through the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Grassroot Sports,Mr Atewogboye Adebanji Adeoye has provide young people with a positive outlet to reduce involvement in crime and social vices,foster community engagement and promote social cohesion through sports.

    As thousands of spectators witnessed the electrifying kickoff, transformed the normally bustling Oloyede Street,it has equip youth with essential life skills, including teamwork, discipline, and problem-solving,enhance their confidence and self-esteem among participants and instill a sense of purpose and direction among young people.

    Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s exciting Lagos Street Soccer Stars Initiative has been officially launched in Oshodi-Isolo, aiming to boost active community sports participation among Lagos youths.

    The inaugural three-a-side Lagos Street Soccer Star Oshodi 2025 competition organized by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Grassroot Sports,Mr Atewogboye Adebanji Adeoye will feature 16 street teams battling it out for top prizes and cash rewards.

    Investigator news reports that Mr. Atewogboye Adebanji Adeoye, Senior Aide to Governor Sanwo-Olu on Grassroots Sports Development, launched this 7-day tournament to engage Lagos youths in grassroots sports activities.

    Speaking to the teams,he urge them to imbibe the spirit of fair play stating that,the winner of the competition would be going home with the sum of N500,000,N250,000 for the 1st runner-up, and N100,000 for the 2nd runner-up.

    He noted that this event aligns with Governor Sanwo-Olu’s vision to promote grassroots sports development, provide a platform for young talents to shine, and revive the glory days of MTN Street Soccer in Lagos.

    Thousands of spectators witnessed the electrifying kickoff, transformed the normally bustling Oloyede Street. A temporary transformation of a “bumpy street” into a miniature indoor sports complex was achieved.

    A sleek synthetic turf was laid, complete with goal posts and sponsor signage, creating a professional atmosphere.

    Before the opening whistle, the participating teams, clad in branded jerseys, took to the pitch. At precisely 4:10 p.m., the referee led the teams for the first match of the seven-day event between Arowojobe St vs. Alimi Oke St.Adeoye Adebanji Atewogboye, SSA on Grassroots Sports Development, was invited to the centre field to take the ceremonial kickoff, officially launching the competition.

    The tournament’s maiden edition adopted a thrilling knockout format and teams grouped into A and B.. Four teams in group A battled their way into the quarter-finals, with two matches decided in the regular game play and two more going down to the wire in nail-biting penalty shootouts.

    Investigator news gathered matches will take place across various local street teams, with exceptional players already being recognized for their outstanding performances.

    Speaking with newsmen,Hon Adebanji a.k.a Skibanj stated that this initiative is expected to drive sports development, youth engagement, and community outreach, with plans to expand to other local governments in Lagos, starting with Surulere later this year.

    Adebanji opined that It will also help to promote APC mobilization strategies and engage youths through community sports developments.

    “As the SSA on grassroot sports,it is my duty to engage the youths through sporting activities. This initiative is just to engage our youths and see how we can used sports activities to reduce crime, drug abuse and make them buy this initiative as we plan to take this game to all the local government in the state.”he said.

    The SSA went further to appeal to the youths to make use of this initiative and engage themselves during this holiday, noting that the subsequent edition would be bigger than the present edition.

    On his plans for the youths,Hon Adebanji said that the Lagos State government through his office is organizing a summer camp coming up on the 25th of August to September as it aligns with Governor Sanwo-Olu’s agenda to promote grassroots sports development and provide a platform for young talents to shine.

    He acknowledged the State Governor,Mr Babajide Sanwo Olu for the youths the platform to showcase their talents,security agencies, the DPO Akinpelu Police Station, and the Community Development Association for ensuring participant safety.

    At the end of the day,Arowojobe Str played 1:1 with Alimi Oke Str after the 20mins game, thereafter a penalty shootout and Alimi Oke took the upper hand(1-3.

    Others are Samuel Street 0:2 Osho Str, Church Str 2:2 Adeyemi Str(Penalty 1:2)and Adeyemi took the day and the last match was Oremeji Str 2:3 Joseph Str.

    Despite the torrential rain, the fan were treated to high class, artistic football display as the atmosphere was charged with energy, thanks to the booming tunes of a DJ, and the event was managed with impressive attention to detail, including adequate security and readily available medical services.

    At the end of the match, outstanding players were rewarded with awards from the organizer,Mr Atewogboye Adebanji Adeoye (Skibanj)

    The competition continues at the same venue, with kick-off remaining at 4 PM, with eight teams from group B  to compete for a spot in the quarter-finals, promising another day of thrilling street soccer action.

    The Organizing Committee of Oshodi Street Soccer Stars has announced that team registration for the inaugural edition is now open, inviting football enthusiasts to participate in the exciting tournament.

    In a press release signed by the Local organizing committee,the registration will take place on Saturday 7, June 2025,from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at Owoseni Primary School, Oshodi, Lagos as teams are encouraged to register and learn more about the competition format, rules, and prizes.

    It was another exciting sporting event on Tuesday May 27, 2025 at the National Stadium, Lagos, as the second edition of Skate Lagos wrapped up in celebration of new talents with cash prizes worth over N2million.

    The annual event, which was to mark Children’s Day 2025, was themed: “Lagos Rocking Future Stars”, attracting large numbers of professional skaters, coaches and spectators across Lagos and beyond as this year’s edition was different as it attracted foreigners attending the event.

    The event which attracted the likes of the State Governor,Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu who was ably represented at the occasion by the Commissioner for Youths and Social Development,Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende,was a demonstration of the affirmation of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration to give youths in the state a platform to excel to the world of sports.

    Investigator news reports that the Senior Special Assistants to the Governor on Grassroot Empowerment,Hon. Kehinde Bakare,(Sports)Hon. Oluwadamilare Orimoloye,(Wealth Creation)Hon. (Amb.) Tijani Saheed,(Sports Marketing and Management)Hon. Onaopepo Adu,as well as Hon.Toyin Aremu (Transportation) and Hon.Ruth Lijirin graced the event.

    In his welcome address, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Grassroot Sports Development,Mr. Atewogboye Adebanji Adeoye said that the event was part of the ways of achieving the T.H.E.M.E.S plus agenda of the governor with the hope that future Stars would emerge from the grassroots level to represent the state in international sports competitions.

    He went further to urge the participants to make good use of the event in showcasing their talents as the governor has agreed to give the youth a brighter future in sports activities.

    “Through the efforts of Gov. Sanwo-Olu’s sponsorship, we have represented Lagos well in the International Skate-a-Thon in Calabar 2025, Gateway Games 2025 and achieved medals and cash prizes in a thrilling spectacle performances. We are also set to participate in another competition in Ijebu, Ogun State”. He said

    The Senior Aide also added that one of the best ways to engage youths in grassroots is through competitions to identify talents.

    The Commissioner for Youths and Social Development, Mr Mobalaji Ogunlende commended Hon Skibanj for initiatives in developing talents through skating and other sporting activities in Lagos State.

    He called on the youths to abstain from drug abuse, trafficking and embrace sports with a view to becoming healthy and wealthy, noting that Lagos will continue to adopt strategies that will curb drug abuse among the youths population and take them off the streets.

    ” In line with the Theme Plus Agenda of his Excellency,Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu,my administration will continue to give total support to the youths in all self reliance program in the state”

     

    ” I stood resolute in my commitment to bolster the growth and development of youths and sports in Lagos, once again I want to say that Hon Skibanj has done marvelously well and we will continue to support this kind of programs and to crown it all, today is children’s day celebration and we have discovered raw talents in this kids that have showcased their skills, which shows that Lagos is an embodiment of raw talents, truly Lagos is working ” he stated.

    Speaking with investigator news,the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Grassroot Sports,Hon Kehinde Bolaji Bakare called on the government to concentrate more on grassroot programs as it would bring job solution to so many teeming youths, while calling on private sectors to always support government initiatives and programs so that the youths can develop the state and the country at large.

    ” Today is children’s day and instead of Hon Skibanj giving the children rice and chicken,he came up with this idea,sold it to the Governor and today they are empowering and encouraging young talents so as to secure a better future through skating “Bakare stated.

    Hon (Amb) Tijani Saheed Oluwadare, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Wealth Creation stated that the event which is the second edition is a welcome development as it an opportunity of tapping the raw talents from the cradle.

    Hon Saheed appeal to the Governor to make it an annual event and also ensure it is spread across the 57 local government area so as to discover more talents that would represent the state at the National and international level.

    “This initiative is commendable and I want to sincerely appreciate the SSA on grassroot sports development for coming up with such initiative in trying to bring out the hidden talents in our children”

    ” I also want to appeal to the State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu to make this event an annual event and ensure that it spreads across the 57 local government we have in the state.

    “Also assist in releasing more funds into sports so as to encourage this kind of sports as it will make more younger people attention to be diverted from crime, criminality,drugs into a meaningful engagement that would eventually add to the economic, peace and tranquility of the state and society at large.”he submitted.

    One of the guest at the occasion, Evang. Damola Ogunlan appreciated the State Governor Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the SSA, Hon Skibanj for such initiative and programs to the youths, stating that this would keep them busy from engaging in crime and drugs abuse.

    Coach Emmanuel Chikezie of Wondrous movers skaters applauded the state government for the initiative, noting that such program would encourage the children to excel.

    He said that the Skaters association has been neglected for years but thank God that they are recognized today with empowerment by the State Governor through the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Grassroot Sports,Hon Adebanji.

    ” I feel excited and happy that members of my team won most of the medals e”specially the Overall winner went to a member of my club. I am grateful to the state government for this initiative and we need more of such programs.”he said

    Investigator news gathered that among the elated participants who took part in the event were the overall Speed Skating Senior Male category, Abiodun Adeniran with tag number 259 winning N250,000 thousand and the overall Speed Skating Senior Female category, Kadejo Arafat Adaeze with tag number 373 took home N250,000 thousand expressed their appreciations to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his senior aide, Mr. Atewogboye Adebanji

    The second runner up, Segun Oguntade and third runner up, Omotayo Gideon (213) in the male category were presented N150,000 and N50,000 cheques respectively while in the female category, Onitimire Bukola (255) and Rosea Sayi (364) smiled home with another N150,000 and N50,000 respectively.

    In the free jump for female adult final Category, ThankGod Emmanuella (winner) took N50,000, Nimot Hassan (1st runner up) and Rosemary David were presented N30,000 and N10,000 cheques.

    Free jump for male adult final included Omene Daniel (winner) N50,000, Smart Emmanuel (1st runner up) N30,000 and Igangan Samuel (2nd runner up) N10,000.

    Other categories were speed skating female kids where the winner (tag no 288) went home with N50,000, second runner up (tag no 283) earned N30,000 and third runner up (tag no 304) N10,000.

    In the speed skating male kids tag number 326 won N50,000, tag number 278 went home with N30,000 and tag number 305 was encouraged with N10,000.

    In the speed salom (female adult), tag number 373 earned N50,000, tag number 218 was gifted N30,000 and tag number 344 went home with N10,000

    The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Grassroot Sports Development,Mr Adebanji Adeoye Atewogboye has commended Damilare Arowolo on his incredible achievement: breaking the Guinness World Record for the Longest Marathon on a Punching Bag for 60 hours non-stop.

    In a congratulatory message, Adebanji stated that Damilare’s determination was awe-inspiring, especially when he pushed through exhaustion and pain at the 48-hour mark and his refusal to quit was a testament to his grit and purpose.
