    Hundreds of residents of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA gathered at Kings Bar on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, to benefit from a 3-day free eye medical treatment program launched by the Executive Chairman, Hon Jakande Seyi, in partnership with Precious Sight Foundation.

    Investigator news reports that the exercise would cover free medical prescription, free lenses and frame including professional consultations, prescription and reading glasses, and medications all at no cost for the poor and vulnerable.

    The initiative, organized in partnership with the Precious Sight Foundation, has provided hundreds of residents with essential ophthalmic services, including professional consultations, prescription and reading glasses, and medications—all at no cost.

    Speaking with newsmen,Hon Jakande emphasized that the outreach aligns with his administration’s HEWA Agenda, which prioritises “Service to the People” as a foundation for “Prosperity for All.”

    He noted that the essence of the 3 days free medical outreach is part of his continued medical support to the people of Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye LCDA, noting that the program was designed to ensure that no resident is left behind in accessing basic health services, particularly in specialized areas like eye care.

    He said that the target audience for three days is over 1,500 persons as he promised to continually provide and promotes programs that would be of great beneficiary to the people of Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye.

    “It will be recalled that few weeks ago,we had a medical outreach with EKO Atlantic from the United States of America where we had an extensive medical examination and treatment for residents,so this is a continuous program and the people would witness more”

    “Our goal is simple: to bring healthcare closer to the people and make it accessible to everyone, regardless of their economic status. This outreach is part of a broader vision to improve quality of life in our communities,”

    ” This program is going to run for 3 days with medical doctors being on ground to attend to the patients and for those whose cases might be beyond what we targeted in terms of free medical care,we are re- partner with another agency where the patients might need surgical procedures and when such case escalated back to us,we would ensure that they get the required attention ” he said

    Jakande used the occasion to thanked the people for their continued support to his administration , while noting that he would continue to ensure that all the electorates promises comes to reality, while wishing them a merry Christmas and a happy new year in advance.

    According to him, the beneficiaries requiring surgery would be referred to the hospital”Good vision is essential for daily life, education, and work. Unfortunately, many people in our community struggle to afford the eye care they need,” said Hon Jakande “This programme is a step towards ensuring that everyone, regardless of their financial situation, can see clearly and live healthier lives.”

    Speaking with some of the beneficiaries,Mrs Mopelola commended the Chairman for his large-heartedness,describing Hon Jakande as ‘a fantastic man’ who had been doing well for the people of Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye since his assumption into office”

    Another beneficiary, Mr Oludare Okeleye also commended Jakande for having the heart of giving and taking care of people’s health.

    “I don’t think we can have anybody who can match his record in terms of prioritising people’s welfare.It was because of him that I went to collect my permanent voter card (PVC),” he said.

    A security man with Kings Bar,Mr Gbenga Christopher who also benefited from the eye test, commended the Chairman for his kind gesture.

    He said: “I remember the programme he organised at the council secretariat recently,it was awesome, though I could not attend due to the nature of my job but thank God that he brought this to my domain.

    He noted that the current economic reality had prevented many people from checking their health status, saying that the programme had helped some to know the state of their health.

    Investigator news reports that the Chairman and the Vice Chairman,underwent an eye test publicly, underscoring their hands-on approach to governance.

    Investigator news also gathered that the beneficiaries went rejoicing as they urge the chairman to make it a quarterly event as the three-day eye care program will conclude on Thursday, December 18, 2025, and has already earned widespread praise from residents, reinforcing Jakande’s reputation for delivering practical, people-focused governance

    In another development,the Chairman went on an inspection to Damegoro street where his administration is constructing a new drainage system and a new road.

    “Damegoro Street, off, Shokunbi Street Drainage and Road Construction is moving fast and shaping up to become what the residents of Damegoro Street and beyond will start enjoy”he said

    Hon. Seyi Jakande,the Executive Chairman of Òdì-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, has officially launched the E-Birth Registration initiative in collaboration with the Lagos State Government and the National Population Commission (NPC).

    The eventThe event, held at the LCDA Secretariat, marked a milestone in the council’s push for transparent, efficient governance under his “HEWA Agenda”.

    Jakande described the digital system as a “game-changer” for data accuracy and access to social services, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s Smart City Vision.

    “This aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s Smart City Vision. No child will be left unregistered,” he said.

    He emphasized that every child deserves a legal identity, and the innovation makes registration faster, safer, and inclusive.

    Jakande praised the NPC and stakeholders for their collaboration, noting the project will bridge gaps in rural communities.

    The LCDA urges nursing mothers, health workers, and community leaders to support the initiative by registering children at the Council Secretariat.

    “Registering children digitally secures their future,” Jakande added.

    Ikeja, Lagos – The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), has shown his commitment to improving healthcare in the area by attending the Mother, Infant and Child Development (MICHD) Programme at the Yeye Kemi Nelson Primary Health Care Centre, Ikeja.

    The programme, organised by the Lagos State Government through the Office of Political,Legislative and Civic Engagement in collaboration with the Lagos State Health District VI, is aimed to promote maternal,infant,and child health across communities.

    In his remarks,AKOD praised the initiative, saying it aligns with the I.K.E.J.A Agenda’s focus on inclusive governance, better healthcare services, and improved quality of life for all residents.

    He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening primary healthcare delivery and ensuring that mothers and children in Ikeja have access to quality medical attention.

    The Chairman also applauded the Lagos State Government under the leadership of Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, for sustaining people-centered programs that directly improve community wellbeing.

    The Kogi State Ministry of Health Government in collaboration with the Kogi State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KSPHCDA)on Tuesday 7, October 2025 officially kicked off the 2025 Integrated Measles-Rubella, Polio, and HPV Vaccination Campaign, a major public health initiative aimed at protecting children and adolescents across the state from vaccine-preventable diseases.

    The campaign, flagged off by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, marks a significant step towards eliminating vaccine-preventable diseases and protecting young girls against cervical cancer, which underscored the administration’s commitment to safeguarding the health and well-being of every child and adolescent in the state

    The vaccination campaign targets 1.9 million children aged 9 months to 14 years and will run from October 6th to 15th.

    Speaking at the flagoff,Governor Ododo described the initiative as a renewed commitment to saving lives and strengthening primary healthcare across the state, emphasizing that the vaccines are free, safe, and effective.

    Ododo reaffirmed his administration’s determination to build a healthy and productive Kogi, stressing that the vaccines are free, safe, and effective. He further urged that no child in Kogi should be left behind in the journey to a healthier life.

    The Governor urged parents, caregivers, traditional and religious leaders to support the campaign, assuring that the vaccines are completely free and essential for every eligible child.

    He appreciated development partners and health workers for their continued support and dedication to improving the well-being of Kogi’s citizens.

    Also speaking at the event, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza, Lauded the Governor’s leadership and highlighted the growing community support for the revitalization of Primary Health Centres across the state.

    He expressed gratitude to religious, traditional, and community leaders for their invaluable roles in advancing public health awareness and promotion.

    Earlier in his address, the Executive Director of the Kogi State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Mu’azu Musa Omeiza, announced that Kogi State is launching a vaccination campaign targeting 1.9 million children aged 9 months to 14 years against Measles and Rubella, with additional coverage for Polio and HPV.

    He explained that the campaign, running from October 6th to 15th, is a coordinated, cost-effective, and evidence-based approach to protecting the state’s future generation.

    Dr. Mu’azu expressed appreciation to all stakeholders for their support and commended healthcare workers for their dedication, urging households and the media to ensure that all eligible children receive the life-saving vaccines.

    In a goodwill message, Alh. Abdulrazaq Babatunde Ishola of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) praised Kogi State for achieving 100% immunization coverage and commended Governor Ododo’s commitment to public health.

    Over 50 women benefited from a free cervical cancer screening exercise organized by Hon Okey Joe Onuakulusi Foundation in partnership with My Body My Asset Foundation in Ejigbo, Lagos.

    The free screening which held at Ejigbo Lagos was to mark October’s Cancer Awareness Month activities,2025,aimed to promote awareness and early detection of cervical cancer.

    The Founder/President My Body My Asset Foundation Ambassador Mrs. Franca Eze, said the partnership was to mark 5th anniversary of her non-governmental organisations (NGO) as it is committed in raising awareness about cervical cancer in the past five years.

     

    She said the major cause of cervical cancer in women is a persistent infection with high-risk types of the human papillomavirus (HPV).

    As HPV is common and often clears on its own, a long-lasting infection with certain high-risk strains can cause abnormal cell changes on the cervix, which can eventually develop into cancer if not treated.

    She said this is the reason why the foundation decided to carry out the cervical cancer screening in order to educate women about the causes cervical cancer.

    She applauded the lawmaker for partnering with her organization in ensuring that women in his constituency gets free screening on cervical cancer.

    ” Let me use this occasion to appreciate Hon Okey Joe Onuakulusi, member representing Oshodi-Isolo 2 at the federal house of representatives for taking this bold step as this is the first time a man would partner with us to organize a free cervical cancer screening for women,it is laudable and he must be commended.”she said

    The Programme Director HOJ Foundation Mrs. Uchenna Offormata, said her organisation went into the partnership because many women do not know their status when it comes to cervical cancer.

    She explained the free cervical cancer screening aimed at reducing number of women who come down with cervical cancer in the society through awareness creation.

    “Today’s event is to create an awareness and generally this month of October is “Cancer awareness ” and we all know the rate at which people die of cancer,so the Hon Okey Joe foundation thought it wise to partner with the NGO to bring to the people of Oshodi-Isolo 2 federal constituency so that a lot of women who don’t know their status can benefit from this initiative”

    Mrs Offormata went further to emphasize the importance of women checking their health status,as early detection of cervical cancer saves lives.

    She highlighted some of the achievements already recorded by the Hon Okey Joe Onuakulusi Foundation,who she said has empowered so many youths,men and women especially the women through various empowerment program.

    Speaking with newsmen,Hon Okey Joe Onuakulusi, member representing Oshodi-Isolo 2 who was ably represented by the Labour party local government chairman for Oshodi-Isolo 2 federal constituency,Hon Bishop Remigius Agu urge the women to always take care of their health as Cancer is a deadly and dangerous disease that need urgent.

    Hon Onuakulusi opined that checking of their health status regularly would detect cervical cancer early, therefore he appealed to the women to always care for their body so as to have healthy living.

    Some of the beneficiaries who spoke with newsmen thanked Hon Okey Joe for bringing the initiative to the constituency as it will give the women ample opportunity of checking their health status.

    Mrs Gbaka Juliet urge the women to always visit the hospital whenever they have unusual pain in any part of their body especially their cervical part.

    Private hospitals in Imo State have formed the habit of disrupting and sabotaging the well thought out health policies of Governor Hope Uzodimma’s Administration by reportedly engaging in unwholesome activities. This is no longer a secret.

    Unwholesome Private Hospital Activities in Imo State include the following : Patient Harm From Medical Negligence,Poor Hygiene,Re-used Equipment,Lack Of Sterilization, Which Leads To Infections And Fatal Complications,Disrespectful Treatment Of Patients,Lack Of Patient Safety Protocols,Environmental Hazards From Improper Waste Management,Chemical Exposure For Staff and so on and so forth.

    All these have been undermining the very good intents of the Imo State Government in the Health Sector, on one hand, and Care Quality and Patient Well-being, on the other hand.

    MARK OF GLORY SPECIALIST HOSPITAL, located at No 30 MCC Road Ikenegbu Layout Extension Owerri in Imo State is guilty of the above listed medical infractions, which are violations of professional and ethical standards in the medical field, vis-a-vis ; medical malpractice, negligence and misconduct.

    At MARK OF GLORY SPECIALIST HOSPITAL, human life means nothing, hence deaths occur virtually on daily basis, and its doctors and nurses are reportedly primed to stand aloof as patients suffer.

    It is a notorious fact that their doctors and nurses reportedly recommend unnecessary and very expensive medical tests for patients, not really to assist or aid patient care, but for the sole aim to generate revenue for the hospital. And in most cases, these tests are never conducted, but patients are allegedly given ponzi and falsified results.

    Under the watchful eyes of the Chief Medical Director, Dr Mark Okhueleigbe, an Edo State indigene, MARK OF GLORY SPECIALIST HOSPITAL prescribe very expensive medications and tests that are reportedly unrelated to patient’s condition, all in a bid to earn commission from recommended Diagnostic Centres.

    Residents of Ikenegbu Layout Extension are not comfortable with the activities going on at the hospital, and therefore wants urgent action from the State Government, to save lives of innocent people. The following example is a clear indication of what has been going on at the hospital.

    Mr Jacob Ogbonnaya and his wife, Mrs Ogechi Ogbonnaya, are indigenes of Ebonyi State, and have been married for about 12 years.

    However, they are resident at Orji Community in Owerri-North Local Government Area of Imo State, and are involved in the economic activity of trading

    Mrs Ogechi Ogbonnaya had a health challenge of not urinating properly, and was initially admitted at BELIEVE HOSPITAL at Orji Community. From there, she was referred to MARK OF GLORY SPECIALIST HOSPITAL on the 13th of August 2025.

     

    At this Hospital, a scan was purportedly conducted and a recommendation made for her to be operated on.

    However, a Bill of One Million, One Hundred and Fifty Five Thousand Naira (N1,155, 000) was charged, out of which the husband, Mr Jacob Ogbonnaya, made an initial deposit of N285,000.

    After making this initial deposit, Mr Jacob Ogbonnaya pleaded with the Chief Medical Director, Dr Mark Okhueleigbe, to commence the surgery, as his wife, Mrs Ogechi Ogbonnaya, was passing through severe pains, difficulties and slowly dying.

    Rather than save life first, the Hospital Management gave him the condition of depositing his LEXUS 330 RX as collateral. Desperate to save his wife, he bowed to the manipulation and deposited his vehicle. Yet, the Hospital refused to commence the surgery.

    The following day being the 14th of August 2025, Mr Jacob Ogbonnaya raised additional N300,000, which he further transferred to the Hospital Account. Surgery was eventually conducted, but was poorly done, wherein Mrs Ogechi Ogbonnaya became infected.

    Next, the Hospital demanded and collected the following items from Mr Jacob Ogbonnaya :His BVN Number,his NIN and Photocopy of his Driver’s License.

    The Chief Medical Director’s demand for Mr Jacob Ogbonnaya to release his ECO Bank Password was resisted. Within these time, Mrs Ogechi Ogbonnaya, who was already under Medical Detention, was never given any further medical attention. Rather, the husband was pressured to sign more documents.

    Later, Mr Jacob Ogbonnaya was asked to make further payments, so that his wife would be placed on “Special Drugs”, to treat the infections.

    Mr Jacob Ogbonnaya, who had by the time become frustrated, cried out to his friends, and they raised N200,000, N90,000 and another N300,000, respectively, for him, and all these monies were sent to the Hospital Bank Account, 5333565267

    MARK OF GLORY LIMITED, yet no “Special Drugs” were administered on his dying wife.

    Fearing that his wife, Mrs Ogechi Ogbonnaya, would die, but never wanted her to die in their Hospital, Dr Mark Okhueleigbe and his Team referred her to another Hospital, REGION HOSPITAL, at MGBIRICHI in Ohaji-Egbema LGA of the State (a distance of about 30 kilometers, as if no other nearby hospital could be recommended), for Dialysis, since according to them, their own Dialysis Machine was faulty.

    The idea was that before the traumatized husband, Mr Jacob Ogbonnaya, would have arrived REGION HOSPITAL at MGBIRICHI with his wife in an Ambulance, she might have died,but Almighty God had a different plan.

    All this while, Mrs Ogechi Ogbonnaya’s stomach, which was opened by Dr Mark Okhueleigbe and his Team, was yet to be stitched.

    Rather than take Mr Jacob Ogbonnaya and his wife to REGION HOSPITAL at MGBIRICHI, the Nurses from MARK OF GLORY SPECIALIST HOSPITAL who were assigned by Dr Mark Okhueleigbe to take them, first took them to ELELE in Rivers State, before turning back to MGBIRICHI, where REGION HOSPITAL is located.

    Don’t forget that Mrs Ogechi Ogbonnaya’s stomach was not stitched, so she was first transported to ELELE and thereafter to MGBIRICHI with an unstitched stomach.

    Dialysis was done and she was brought back to MARK OF GLORY SPECIALIST HOSPITAL, after which her stomach was stitched, but was poorly and badly done, such that Mrs Ogechi Ogbonnaya’s intestines were not properly put back in its proper position.

    This was followed by a hasty discharge by the Hospital on the 19th of August 2025, which led to more serious complications and negative patient outcome, after being extorted financially and properties still seized.

    Frustrated, traumatized and trusting only in the miraculous power of Almighty God, Mr Jacob Ogbonnaya took his dying wife, Mrs Ogechi Ogbonnaya, to the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Owerri, and she was re-admitted. At FMC, a lot of Medical infractions committed by MARK OF GLORY SPECIALIST HOSPITAL were detected. First, the infection was treated.

    Secondly, a proper surgery was carried out, with professional touch. To the Glory of God, Mrs Ogechi Ogbonnaya is recuperating.

    The implication is that Dr Mark Okhueleigbe and his Team don’t know what they are doing at MARK OF GLORY SPECIALIST HOSPITAL Ikenegbu Layout, yet they extort money from unsuspecting people and even force them to deposit their cars and other valuables and properties.

    Till this moment, MARK OF GLORY SPECIALIST HOSPITAL has refused to release properties of Mr Jacob Ogbonnaya in its possession.

    Seeking for justice, a petition has been submitted to the Imo State Commissioner of Police.

    Secondly, the Imo State Government is hereby called upon to investigate the unwholesome medical activities and infractions going on in MARK OF GLORY SPECIALIST HOSPITAL at No 30 MCC Road Ikenegbu Layout Extension, to find out why Dr Mark Okhueleigbe and his medical team are undermining the very good intents of the State Government in the Health Sector, and ensure they face the consequences.

    As stated earlier, Residents of Ikenegbu Layout Extension are no longer comfortable with the activities going on at the hospital and wants urgent action from the Authorities, to save lives of innocent people.

    Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has unveiled a series of health sector reforms aimed at improving healthcare delivery in the state.

    The reforms include expanded health insurance coverage, revitalization of primary healthcare centers, and incentives for medical personnel.

    Speaking at the event, Ododo described the initiatives as “a major step towards making quality healthcare accessible, affordable, and sustainable for every Kogite.”

    He assured that his administration remains committed to strengthening healthcare infrastructure while prioritizing the welfare of health workers.

    To encourage service in rural areas, the Governor announced a ₦300,000 allowance for medical doctors posted to hard-to-reach communities.

    He also revealed plans to sponsor the training of 100 medical doctors annually in partnership with the Federal University, Lokoja; Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba; and the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara, as part of government’s long-term strategy to address manpower gaps in the health sector.

    The Governor went further to disclose that doctors’ quarters would be built in strategic parts of the state, while qualified Kogites would continue to benefit from new appointments into the healthcare system.

    The Governor stressed that security remains critical to the wellbeing of citizens, expressing concerns over the security risks posed by trailer parks at Zariagi and Osara, which, according to intelligence reports, had become hideouts for criminal elements disguised as truck drivers.

    To this end, the Governor gave operators of the parks a one-month grace period to vacate the locations, after which no trailer will be allowed to park there or in any other unauthorised area of the state, particularly during hours prohibited by law.

    He directed security agencies to ensure full enforcement of the order, saying the measure is necessary to deny criminals any safe haven and strengthen security operations across Kogi State.

    Ododo expressed gratitude to development partners, including the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, CIHP, AHF, Malaria Consortium, and Marie Stopes International, for their support in improving healthcare delivery in Kogi State.

    While reaffirming his administration’s focus on people-centred governance, the Governor declared: “Together, we’re building a Kogi State where good health is a right, not a privilege; where security is guaranteed, and where every citizen has a fair chance to live, work, and prosper”.

    The Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Fanwo, and the Commissioner for Works, Hon. Mohammed Yusuf, have led a media tour to inspect newly remodeled and constructed healthcare facilities in Mopamuro and Kabba/Bunu Local Government Areas.

    The tour is aimed to showcase the strides of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration in improving rural healthcare delivery.

    Investigator news reports that the Commissioners inspected the remodeled Primary Healthcare Centre at Ileteju in Mopamuro LGA, which features improved infrastructure, solar power, clean water supply, and modern equipment.

    A newly constructed primary healthcare centre with staff quarters was inspected at Aiyegunle Igun in Kabba/Bunu LGA, demonstrating the government’s commitment to rural development.

    Hon. Fanwo noted that the intervention represents one of the legacy projects of the administration targeted at improving rural healthcare delivery.

    “We have 239 wards in the state, and the government is currently remodeling over 256 primary healthcare centres. What you’re seeing here is not just renovation, it’s a complete transformation.”

    “We’ve improved the infrastructure, provided solar power, clean water supply, and equipped the centres with facilities that will make them fully functional for our people, Fanwo said.

    A staff member of the facility, Mrs. Aguda Ruth, expressed gratitude to Governor Ododo for coming to their aid after years of neglect.

    She stated that before now, the roof was leaking, the environment was not conducive, and even the staff were scared whenever it rained. But today, the story has changed.

    We now have a modern, fully equipped centre with water, solar power, and facilities to treat patients effectively. We no longer have to refer most cases to the general hospital.

    This is a big relief to our people, and we’re sincerely grateful to our Governor,” she said.

    At Aiyegunle Igun in Kabba/Bunu LGA, the Commissioners inspected a newly constructed primary healthcare centre complete with staff quarters.

    Speaking at the site, Hon. Fanwo described the project as part of the health revolution under the Ododo administration.

    The Commissioner noted that the previous administration invested heavily in tertiary and secondary healthcare facilities.

    This government is complementing that by bringing quality healthcare to the grassroots. What you see here is not just a health facility but a comprehensive system with staff accommodation, ensuring sustainability.

    This demonstrates the Governor’s commitment to rural development. Our slogan is that rural lives also matter, and we are proving that with actions,” he emphasised.

    He further disclosed that, in addition to the ongoing primary healthcare projects, the government is in the process of establishing one general hospital in each of the 21 local government areas of the state to further strengthen the health sector.

    The Commissioners reaffirmed that the Ododo administration remains focused on agriculture, rural development, and healthcare as foundations for improving the quality of life for the people of Kogi State.

    The Kogi State Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and development partners, has launched the development of the 2026 Annual Operation Plan (AOP) for the state health sector.

    This initiative aims to enhance healthcare delivery and accessibility for the residents of Kogi State.

    The Kogi State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza inaugurated the AOP development session at the Barcelona Hotel, Blantyre Crescent, Wuse 2, Abuja.

    Dr. Adeiza, at the inauguration ceremony on Wednesday, emphasised that the AOP is intended to serve as a living document that will guide operational activities within the state health sector.

    He noted that the 2026 AOP will act as a strategic framework to direct various initiatives and will be utilized to assess the sector’s progress.

    The Commissioner went further to express gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the substantial resources allocated to support the health sector across Nigeria.

    He acknowledged the commitment of Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, who has prioritised healthcare as a key focus of his administration, stating that the foundational work laid by the former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, in advancing the state’s health sector.

    While reassuring participants of improved funding for healthcare, the Commissioner urged them to dedicate their efforts towards the advancement of the health sector.

    Investigator news reports that the technical session, Dr. Asiru Adamu from the National SWAP Office highlighted that AOP is a critical driver of both state and national health policy programs and initiatives.

    He encouraged participants to adopt intentional strategies in the implementation of health activities within their respective departments, institutions, and agencies.

    Adeiza expressed his sincere expectation for a departure from traditional practices, advocating for a creative and improvement-oriented mindset to ensure that past mistakes are not repeated.

    Earlier in his opening remarks, Mr. Johnson Aieyedogbon, the Director of Health Planning, Research, and Statistics at the State Ministry of Health, expressed his enthusiasm for Kogi State being the first in the nation to initiate the development of the 2016 Annual Operational Plan (AOP).

    He stressed that the achievement underscores the state government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare service operations and delivery for the overall well-being of its citizens.

    Mr. Aieyedogbon noted that the AOP development process is a week-long endeavor, relocated from Lokoja to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to ensure participants’ focused engagement, thereby maximizing contributions and achieving successful outcomes.

    In a significant milestone for medical education in Kogi State,the Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, has received full approval from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) to commence its Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme.

    This development comes after a successful two-day advisory visit by MDCN officials to the university.

    With this development shortly after the National Universities Commission (NUC) re-approved the MBBS program,PAAU has now secured full approval from MDCN to commence its MBBS programme, paving the way for the university to admit its first cohort of 50 medical students for the 2025/2026 academic session.

    The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams, confirmed this on Thursday, highlighting it as a major victory for healthcare and medical education in the state.

    “This approval by MDCN is a game-changer. It marks the reactivation of medical training in PAAU and reinforces the state government’s commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare education.

    “We appreciate the political support from the Chief Servant of Kogi State to make this a reality. Kogi is on track to become the epicenter of medical education in Nigeria.”he said

    Dr. Adams also noted that this achievement follows the already running MBBS programme at Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, where the first cohort is currently in session.

    He hinted at further expansion, revealing that the next destination for an MBBS program is Kogi State University (KSU), Kabba.

    “This is a strategic push. First CUSTECH, now PAAU, and very soon KSU Kabba. We’re building a future where Kogi will not just produce doctors, but will become a centre of excellence in healthcare delivery and education,” he submitted

    The reinstatement of the PAAU MBBS programme is expected to strengthen the state’s capacity to train more doctors locally, address healthcare workforce shortages, and improve the overall health outcomes for the people of Kogi State.

    “Health is everything. We shall do more,” Dr. Adams assured

    The Commissioner went further to thank the University community led by the Vice Chancellor, the Prince Abubakar Audu University Teaching Hospital community, the Ministry of Education and all the Stakeholders that made the feat a reality
