    Ikeja Local Government Chairman, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD),has reaffirmed his administration’s focus on healthcare delivery, participating in a Joint Leadership Dialogue on Strengthening Primary Health Care System in Lagos State.

    The event, held at Sheraton Hotel, Lagos, brought together health sector stakeholders, including UNICEF, World Bank, and Nigeria Health Watch, to discuss strategies for enhancing primary healthcare delivery, accountability, and funding efficiency.

    Speaking on the importance of the programme,AKOD emphasized Ikeja’s commitment to building healthier communities, aligning with his human capital development agenda.

     

    He noted that insights from the dialogue would improve service delivery in Ikeja’s primary health centres through improved collaboration with state authorities and development partners.

    “Ikeja Local Government remains committed to policies and partnerships that promote accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare for all residents.”he stated

    Investigator news reports that discussions at the event emphasized the critical role of local governments in revitalizing the primary health care system,improving access to quality healthcare services,and strengthening health infrastructure,workforce capacity, and community engagement.

    Women across Nigeria are being urged to take a stand against the growing threat of digital violence targeting women and girls.

    The call was made by Princess Fauziyyah Olaloko, Chairperson of Women Rights And Child Advocacy (WRICAD), at an event in Lagos marking the International Day to End Domestic and Sexual Violence Against Women.

    Princess Olaloko emphasized that digital violence is a serious issue, and women must unite to fight against online harassment, cyberstalking, and other forms of digital abuse.

    She highlighted the importance of reporting incidents and protecting personal information, stating that “digital violence is real violence”.

    “Many people think violence only happens when someone is hit or beaten. But things have changed,violence now enters homes through phones and the internet. That is why we are speaking on the theme “Digital Violence Is Real Violence”

    “Some people receive threats on WhatsApp,get messages that bring fear, have their private pictures used to embarrass them and some are monitored online without their consent.”

    “Many young girls fall into danger because someone pretends to be a friend on the phone. All these things may not leave bruises, but they leave deep pain. They cause worry, sleepless nights,shame and that pain is also violence.”

    “It is said that when we understand something clearly, we can protect ourselves. That is why WRICAD is here. Our aim is to expose these silent harms and teach simple steps that can help keep women and children safe.”

    “If anybody is threatening you online, report it,if someone sends messages that make you afraid, do not keep quiet.”

    “If your child is using a phone, guide them,talk to them. Watch what they do online and stop sharing private things with strangers. And if anybody tries to use your information to control you, know that you have rights,you can seek help”she said

    Princess Olaloko went further to state that  “Women are community pillars,”, while stressing the importance of women’s collective action against digital violence,she urge all women and girls to come together so as to combat digital abuse and promote online safety for all.

    “We also want to encourage unity among women. You know this already when women stand together, the entire community is stronger. If your neighbour faces trouble, do not laugh at her,do not shame her. Help her speak up and let her know she is not alone.”

    “Today’s outreach is not just a program. It is a message of hope and we want women in Ejigbo to know that their safety matters and their dignity matters. Online or offline, you deserve respect.”

    The Convener acknowledge all their partners, supporters,for standing with them especially Ejigbo LCDA,the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Ejigbo Chapter.She also thanked the market leaders for their hospitality

    The event featured a keynote address by Comrade Suleiman, who highlighted the rise of technology has brought a new form of harm: digital violence.

    He stated that women and girls in Nigeria face cyberbullying, online harassment, non-consensual sharing of images, and digital stalking.

    According to statistics presented by him 45% of women have experienced cyberstalking, and 10.6% have faced doxing, putting them at risk of further harm.

    He emphasized that digital violence is not just a problem among adults, but also affects children and adolescents, especially girls.

    Comrade Suleiman noted that digital violence leaves deep emotional scars, destroys confidence, and follows victims into their physical lives.

    He called on individuals to raise awareness that digital violence is a crime and not a joke, and to support survivors by creating safe reporting channels.

    A report released in 2025 found that 9 in 10 Nigerian children face at least one form of “online risk” — including sexual exploitation, unsolicited sexual content, cyberbullying, scams, and general digital abuse.

    “Many cases involve minors receiving unwanted sexual advances, messages,images, or being coerced into sharing content — thus highlighting the vulnerability of children and teenagers online.”

    ” According to the report, about 58% of online harms target women —indicating a strong gendered dimension to digital violence.”

    “This shows that digital violence in Nigeria is not only a problem among adults —children and adolescents, especially girls, are deeply affected.”

    “In today’s world, abuse no longer happens only behind closed doors. With the rise of technology, many women and girls now face a new form of harm—digital violence.”

    “This includes cyberbullying, online harassment, non-consensual sharing of images, digital stalking, impersonation, threats, and the constant invasion of privacy. The damage is not virtual. It is real, painful, and dangerous.”

    “Digital violence leaves deep emotional scars, destroys confidence, and in many cases,follows victims into their physical lives. It may happen online, but the fear, anxiety, and trauma are felt offline.”

    “For many survivors, their phones—tools meant to empower—have become sources of intimidation and control.” he submitted.

    The Vice Chairman of Ejigbo LCDA, Hon Ambibola Ike, who was the special guest of honor, stated that the surge in online abuse was even more worrying than traditional forms of gender-based violence.

    Ambibola who was represented by her Personal Assistant Mrs Faith noted that digital violence has risen by over 45%, exposing young girls to a new spectrum of harm that no longer ends when the physical assault stops.

    A young girl or woman today is exposed not only to physical harm, but also to cyber bullying, humiliation, blackmail, and threats that linger forever on the internet. These are not abstract concerns, they are lived experiences of real people,” she stated.

    The Vice Chairman added that digital platforms, once seen as tools for empowerment, have increasingly become battlegrounds where women and girls face relentless attacks that follow them into their homes, workplaces, and private spaces.

    She thanked the organizers for coming out to enlightening the women especially the girls on what to do so as to combat the menace, stating that the elimination of violence against women,whether physical,emotional, or digital. Online abuse is not “less serious.” It is not “just words.” It is a violation of dignity and a threat to safety.

    Other guest who gave their goodwill message at the event include the Councilor representing Ailegun ward,Hon Ifatumise Adedoyin Adefioye who was represented by Mrs DaSilva,the Councilor representing Oke Afa ward,Hon Rukayat Olabisi who was represented by Comrade Abdulramah Alugo, Deputy Co-ordinator NYCN,Engr Alimiran Sunday.

    The Secretary Community Development Committee, Ejigbo LCDA, Barrister Ambibola Olawale in her goodwill message called for stronger collective action to tackle digital violence against women and girls, warning that digital abuse targeting women and girls is rising sharply and should be treated with the same seriousness as physical violence.

    The CDC Secretary warned that violence against women and girls remains a major human rights concern and called on the public to report abuse, challenge harmful cultural norms, and support efforts to create respectful environments at home, at work and online.

    A member of the NGO, Hassan Adijat, thanked the organizers for the initiative and appealed to the government to move “from awareness to action” and work towards a society founded on dignity, safety, and equality for all.

    The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), has praised the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, for her tireless efforts to combat gender-based violence in the state.

    AKOD made this commendation while attending the official commissioning and handover ceremony of the newly upgraded Lagos State Police Command Gender Unit, located beside Grange School, Harold Shodipo Crescent, Ikeja.

    The upgraded facility is expected to enhance timely intervention, victim support, and coordinated justice delivery.

    AKOD praised the First Lady for her efforts to protect vulnerable groups and strengthen the fight against gender-based violence.

    He emphasized the importance of collaboration between government institutions, security agencies, and community leaders in building a safe and just society.

    The Council boss noted that the First Lady’s vision and leadership have been instrumental in promoting a safe and just society, and urged all stakeholders to work together to protect vulnerable groups and promote a culture of respect and dignity for all.

    The Shibiri Youth Forum has launched an anti-drug abuse initiative,with the Executive Chairman of Oto-Awori LCDA,Hon.Kareem Abiodun,emphasizing the need for a healthier Shibiri community, free from the scourge of drug abuse.

    Speaking at the ‘Say No to Drug Abuse’ awareness walk, Abiodun highlighted the devastating effects of drug abuse, which destroys lives, traps individuals, and causes deaths.

    He announced plans to integrate comprehensive drug abuse education in schools, starting next academic year, and to establish peer mentors, workshops, and awareness campaigns.

    Abiodun also revealed that the LCDA will partner with psychologists and the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to train teachers and parents on recognizing early signs of drug abuse and implementing timely interventions.

    The Council boss went further to state that the LCDA will deploy dedicated drug abuse counselors at health centers and establish rehabilitation partnerships to support survivors.

    Kogi State Governor,Ahmed Usman Ododo,has commissioned 80 revitalised primary health care facilities across the state,marking a significant milestone in the administration’s efforts to provide accessible, affordable,and quality healthcare to all Kogites.

    Speaking at the commissioning ceremony in Lokoja, Ododo hailed President Bola Tinubu’s dedication to transforming Nigeria’s health sector, noting that the President’s visionary reforms have freed up more funds for states to invest in primary healthcare delivery.

    The Governor also acknowledged the contributions of development partners, including the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), which donated medical equipment and commodities to the state.

    “Today’s gathering symbolises our vision of building a sustainable and people-centered healthcare system that serves every community across Kogi State,” Governor Ododo said.

    Investigator news reports that the revitalised facilities, upgraded under the World Bank IMPACT Project and NPHCDA, are expected to significantly improve service delivery at the grassroots level.

    Ododo also presented the State Leadership Challenge Awards to outstanding Local Government Areas and individuals, recognizing their dedication to healthcare delivery.

    He warned against vandalism and misuse of public assets, saying anyone caught sabotaging government efforts would face the full weight of the law.

    Ododo commended the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza, and the Executive Director of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Muazu Musa Omeiza, for their outstanding work in redefining the future of healthcare in Kogi State.

    In a welcome address, the Executive Director of the Kogi State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Muazu Omeiza, highlighted the transformation of 80 PHC facilities from Level 1 to Level 2 status.

    Omeiza noted that the upgrade means improved infrastructure, including two consulting rooms, uninterrupted power supply through solar energy, functional toilets, fenced compounds, staff quarters, and portable water supply.

    “A Level 2 facility means improved infrastructure, two consulting rooms, uninterrupted power supply through solar energy, functional toilets, fenced compounds, staff quarters, and portable water supply,” Omeiza explained.

    He stressed that the upgrades will enable round-the-clock service delivery, especially for maternal and child health

    “By God’s grace, maternal, infant, and child mortality rates will be reduced to the barest minimum,” he affirmed.

    He also emphasised the importance of community ownership and stakeholder engagement, calling on traditional institutions, religious leaders, and local communities to play active roles in sustaining the progress made.

    The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams, hailed the collaboration between the state and development partners.

    “This glaring evidence of performance cannot be hidden. What we see today is the product of visionary leadership, selfless service, and partnership between government and key health agencies,” he remarked.

    He reiterated that the revitalized PHC facilities, equipped with solar power, boreholes, staff accommodation, and essential medical equipment, would now provide 24-hour healthcare services, significantly improving healthcare outcomes across Kogi State.

    “The security and maintenance of these facilities depend on us all. Communities must take ownership and protect what belongs to them,” he urged.

    Dr. Muyi Aina, Executive Director and CEO of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, lauded Governor Ododo’s exemplary leadership and responsiveness.

    “I engage with many state governors across Nigeria, and I must say, Your Excellency, you stand out in your commitment and responsiveness.”

    “You never say no when we make any request—and that’s true leadership,” Aina said.

    He lauded the state’s consistency in stakeholder engagement and its dedication to healthcare innovation, noting that the standardization of the PHC centers’ design was “a model that other states can emulate.”

    “Kogi State is translating President Bola Tinubu’s vision of high-quality, equitable, and financially accessible healthcare into reality. We have never had it this good,” he added.

    In a warm vote of thanks, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Evangelist Kingsley Fanwo, expressed gratitude to all stakeholders, particularly Dr. Muyi Aina.

    “Dr. Aina is a true son of Kogi who continues to point proudly to his roots with the right hand. His contributions to our state’s development embody the spirit of Kogi people—committed, resilient, and dedicated to progress,” he said.

    In a commendable display of international collaboration and community dedication, the Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area(LCDA) in partnership with the Eko Club Atlanta,has launched a medical mission outreach to provide critical healthcare services to  over one thousand individuals in Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye LCDA and Lagos State in general.

    The outreach program which is part of the club’s commitment and the LCDA’s efforts to improving healthcare and foster community wellbeing took place at Council premises on Monday 3, November 2025 with a range of free medical services, including health education, free medication, dental checks, vision screening with free frames, malaria and tuberculosis testing, cervical cancer screening, and general health intervention.

    Speaking with newsmen in a press conference,the Executive Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA,Hon Seyi Jakande emphasized the importance of community involvement in healthcare and commended the dedication of the visiting medical team from the United States.

    He stated that the event is part of his HEWA Agenda to bring accessible healthcare to those who need it most,while expressing gratitude to the Eko Club Atlanta for their support and encouraged community members to take advantage of the free medical services.

    “This initiative is designed to cater for a handful number of community residents in just one day, a monumental task that speaks to our commitment to bringing accessible healthcare to those who need it most as spelt out in my HEWA Agenda.     Jakande promised to take the medical outreach to other members of the community who couldn’t benefit at the event. He hinted on extending it to all the 9 Wards of the LCDA in form of a medical tourism.

    The event was not only a display of healthcare provision but also a celebration of community spirit, as Hon. Jakande inferred that proactive governance is about bringing care directly to residents rather than waiting for them to seek healthcare abroad.

    He likewise shared food items to the elderly people who participated at the medical outreach.

    Jakande highlighted that the 1-day medical outreach will be providing a diverse array of free medical services to the community, including consultations with the experienced medical professionals, ensuring personalized attention for each participant,medication distribution for those who require it, so that no one leaves without the resources they need.

    Provide health screenings that will help identify potential health issues and promote preventive care and educational health talks that will empower attendees with knowledge about their health.

    He said the initiative was designed to replicate the benefits of medical tourism within the community as over 1000 individuals will benefit from the program

    Lending his voice, Hon. Deji Ajiboye, President of Eko Club Atlanta reaffirmed the club’s commitment to improving healthcare access and building stronger community partnerships, noting that their aim is to ensure that they attend to over 100,000 people living in Lagos especially the aged mothers and fathers.

    Investigator news reports that as at 8,:00am,the council secretariat was already filled up with residents and non residents of Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye LCDA who thronged in their numbers to receive the free medical care from the medical expertise.

    Residents who benefited from the program expressed their gratitude to Hon. Jakande and Eko Club Atlanta for bringing quality healthcare services to their community.

    “We’re so grateful to Hon. Jakande and Eko Club Atlanta for bringing this medical outreach to our community,” said Mrs. Abiodun Adebayo, a trader. “Many of us couldn’t afford these tests and consultations elsewhere.”

    Mrs. Aminat Lawal said she was delighted to receive free blood pressure checks and nutrition advice. “As a young mother, I’m very happy about this outreach. They checked my blood pressure and gave me advice on proper nutrition. We thank Hon. Jakande for remembering us at the grassroots,” she said

    For Mrs Chinenye Ude,she commended the organisers for extending care and compassion to residents. “This is more than just free medical care,it’s an act of love.

    “Hon. Jakande and his team have made us feel seen and valued. Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye is proud of him,” she said, noting that the outreach reflected true community spirit and empathy.”

    Another beneficiary Mr. Ibrahim Akerele, an artisan, praised Hon. Jakande for demonstrating true leadership through service. “I appreciate Hon.     Ikeja Local Government Chairman Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD) has reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote public health, particularly those aimed at reducing maternal deaths resulting from unsafe abortion practices.

    AKOD stated this while attending an advocacy film screening titled “Tó Bá Sé Wò (If It Were You)” at the Council Secretariat, Ikeja.

    The event, organized by WARDC and Pamoja,is aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of unsafe abortions and promote safe healthcare practices.

    In his welcome address, Comrade AKOD warmly received the guests, commending the organizers for using creative advocacy to address such a sensitive yet crucial health issue.
