    The Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu ‘Dullar’, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the bold approval of 8,800 Primary Healthcare Centres across the nation.

    He described the initiative as a historic milestone in advancing the health and well-being of Nigerians.

    Hon. Salawu went further to express full confidence in President Tinubu’s administration, noting its clear direction in reforming Nigeria’s health, education, and economic sectors.

    He affirmed that with such visionary leadership, Nigerians can expect lasting impact and sustainable development beyond 2027.

    The Chairman noted that President Tinubu’s dedication to the well-being of citizens is unmatched, adding that as a proud follower of Tinubu’s political and developmental ideology, Somolu is mirroring this commitment through grassroots health initiatives.

    He highlighted the Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu Primary Healthcare Center built under his administration as a model of inclusive healthcare delivery.

    Salawu further mentioned ongoing works at Wright PHC and preparations to rebuild Bajulaiye and Ohekenu PHCs in Fadeyi, while commending Lagos State Government for nearing completion of Akoka PHC.

    The Somolu LG Boss,encouraged the people of Somolu to continue believing in purposeful leadership and to trust that both faith and good governance can build a healthier, stronger society.

    Honourable (Bar)Jesse Okey Joe Onuakalusi, Member representing Oshodi lsolo II Federal Constituency,Lagos State in partnership with National Biotechnology Research Development Agency has provided 1000 constituents with free eye care.

    The event with the theme “Glaucoma: Approaches for Detection, Monitoring and Treatment”held at lgbo House,Ajao area of Lagos State on Friday 11, April 2025,witnessed constituents within and outside Ajao community thronged in at the venue of the exercise for their free medical checkup.

     

    The lawmaker,Hon Okey Joe said that the exercise marked the sixth edition of the programme as he is poised to rid his constituency of eye-related issues that limit their ability to carry out their daily activities to earn a living.

    Patients with dry eye, glaucoma, night blindness, among others were attended to. Other services rendered were diagnosis and provision of medical glasses.

    Declaring the program open,the federal lawmaker, who was represented by his Senior Special Adviser on Politics and Culture, High Chief John Uche said that the outreach includes counselling, diagnosis of the eye and provision of free medical eye glass as the programme was part of his efforts to improve the health and living conditions of his constituents.

    According to him, “Health experts from the National Biotechnology Research Development Agency are in charge for two days to counsel our people, test, administer drugs and present eyeglasses for those that are due for it. Provision is made for at least 1000 people”he said.

    ” I am here based on the promises l made during my campaign within this environment and one of the promises l made was to provide free medical treatment and this is part of it. We have done it in Ejigbo and Okota, today we are here in Ajao,l want to assure you that the exercise would continue, and l urge those who have not benefited to exercise patience.”he stated.

    High Chief Uche went further to highlight some of the achievements of Hon Okey Joe Onuakalusi which includes provision of clean borehole water,solar lights,construction of schools within lsolo axis, payment of school fees for indigent children and scholarship to over 1000 children in Oshodi lsolo II Federal Constituency noting that he has done excellently well compared to those who are representatives in Lagos State.

    The Guest lecturer,Dr Awawu Obasi stated that regular eye check will help individuals to easily detect glaucoma and treat it immediately.

    Speaking on the topic”Glaucoma: Approaches for Detection, Monitoring and Treatment”,Dr Obasi stated that there are two types of glaucoma which are”open angle and angle closure glaucoma “stating that the eye is the second organ in the body and whenever one has issue,early detection will save the day.

    “If you go for regular eye check,it can be detected and treatment is possible,it is only when you don’t go for regular check that it can lead to eye blindness”

    “Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness in the world and the risk factors are those above 40years,those who have family history of glaucoma, diabetic and hypertensive patients, once you know that you are hypertensive and diabetic,it is good for you to go for regular check up so that it can be detected because it does not have signs and symptoms.it comes slowly, damage the nerves and eyes”she submitted.

    Dr Obasi opined that the essence of the free medical test by the lawmaker in collaboration with the agency was to examine the patients and give them free eye glasses as many of them cannot afford to get the eye glass and now they are getting it free,she said.

    The Special Adviser on Media to the lawmaker,Mazi Chuks Nwosu urge the people to use the opportunity provided by the lawmaker to have their eyes checked so as detect any signs of glaucoma and possibly received treatment.

    Mazi Nwosu who acknowledge the event as a success noted that those who don’t have the finance to have a regular eye check and possibly have glasses would be glad to do so and have early detection of glaucoma.

    He appealed to the people of Oshodi lsolo II to keep praying for the lawmaker as he has promised to impact lives and bring more dividends to their doorstep.

    Speaking with investigator news a beneficiary, Mr Felix Uzoma commended the lawmaker for bringing succour to them, lamenting that he had been battling with the issue of eye problem for over four years but with the medical outreach he believed,it will be corrected.

    Another beneficiary, Mrs Helen Akpan also appreciated the federal lawmaker for his selfless service, lamenting that she had issues with her eyes for the past 3 years but respite had come at last through the help of their federal legislator.

    Highlight of the event was free eye glass,drugs and free eye test.

    The Minister of Women Affairs Hon.lmaam Sulaiman lbrahim has reassured the commitment of the federal ministry of women affairs to advancing policies and initiatives that support neurodiverse individuals,ensuring they have access to quality education, healthcare,and economic opportunities.

    In a release signed by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity,Mr Jonathan Eze,the Minister called on all stakeholders,families,caregivers,and the broader society to embrace neurodiversity and create an enabling environment where everyone, regardless of ability,can thrive.

    She said,”Today, April 2nd, we join the global community in commemorating World Autism Awareness Day, a day set aside to recognize and promote understanding, acceptance, and support for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).”

    This year’s theme, “Advancing Neurodiversity and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” underscores the critical connection between neurodiversity and global sustainability efforts.”

    “It highlights the need for inclusive policies, education, and employment opportunities that empower individuals with autism and other neurodivergent conditions to contribute meaningfully to society.”

    “By fostering acceptance and removing barriers, we move closer to achieving the SDGs, particularly those related to quality education (SDG 4), decent work and economic growth (SDG 8), and reduced inequalities (SDG 10).”

    In a decisive move to combat the escalating scourge of drug abuse and its far-reaching implications on road safety, the Assistant Commander General of Narcotics, Archie-Abia Ibinabo, who oversees the Directorate of Operations and General Investigation, Lagos, at the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA),on Tuesday 11,March 2025 paid an official visit to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) Headquarters in Oshodi, Lagos.

    During the high-level engagement, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, was conferred with the prestigious ‘WADA ADVOCACY’ recognition by the NDLEA in acknowledgment of the Agency’s unwavering commitment to drug abuse prevention and public safety.

    Reaffirming LASTMA’s readiness to forge a formidable partnership with the NDLEA, Mr. Bakare-Oki decried the alarming prevalence of illicit drug consumption, particularly among the youth, and underscored its direct correlation to the rising incidence of road traffic crashes. He emphasized that reckless driving, often fueled by excessive drug intake, has become a major threat to road safety and public well-being.

    Furthermore, the LASTMA General Manager exposed the sophisticated methods employed by drug cartels to facilitate the clandestine transportation of narcotics.

    He revealed that illicit substances are frequently trafficked through unconventional channels such as dispatch motorcycles, ambulances, and other seemingly innocuous vehicles.

    Stressing the urgency of a synergized response, Mr. Bakare-Oki posited that an intensified crackdown on drug abuse would serve as a linchpin in addressing a myriad of societal challenges affecting the youth, thereby fostering a more secure and orderly environment.

    In her remarks, Assistant Commander General of Narcotics Archie-Abia Ibinabo reaffirmed that the NDLEA’s visit was a pivotal component of its ongoing sensitization and enlightenment campaign.

    She highlighted the indispensability of multi-agency collaboration in the war against drug abuse, particularly with LASTMA, whose jurisdiction over traffic control positions it as a crucial stakeholder in intercepting illicit drug movements.

    She further articulated that narcotics are predominantly transported via road networks, thereby necessitating proactive intelligence-sharing between LASTMA operatives and the NDLEA.

    She urged LASTMA officers to remain vigilant and promptly relay pertinent information whenever they encounter suspicious activities linked to drug trafficking during their enforcement duties.

    According to her, “Many of our youths are currently in rehabilitation centers across the country due to drug addiction. The only way to curb this menace is through a concerted, all-hands-on-deck approach.”

    This strategic engagement reaffirmed the commitment of both Agencies to a fortified partnership aimed at dismantling drug networks, mitigating the ramifications of substance abuse, and enhancing overall public safety through robust enforcement mechanisms and intelligence-driven interventions.

    In a resolute commitment to public health advocacy and holistic well-being, the LASTMA Muslim Community (LAMUC), in strategic partnership with the Lagos Medical Guild, is poised to facilitate the 2025 Ramadan Free Medical Counseling and Health Screening,a transformative initiative aimed at fostering preventive healthcare consciousness among the Muslim faithful, particularly during the sacred month of Ramadan.

    Investigator news reports that the Ameer of LAMUC, Mr. Bamgbasa Sulaiman,has announced that this comprehensive health outreach is scheduled to take place tomorrow, Friday, February 28, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM at LASTMA Headquarters, Oshodi, Lagos.

    He accentuated the paramount significance of the initiative, underscoring that early detection and proactive health management are fundamental to maintaining overall well-being.

    As part of efforts to curb crime and safeguard the future of young people, the Imo State Government Thursday, in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and other relevant stakeholders such as law enforcement agencies, has intensified its campaign against the use of illicit drugs, narcotics, and other harmful substances.

    The Special Adviser to Governor Hope Uzodimma on Narcotics and Illicit Drugs Monitoring, Chief Ezechukwu Obinna, emphasized the need for youths to avoid substance abuse for the sake of their mental and physical well-being.

    The campaign, spearheaded by the Special Adviser, commenced with a visit to Imo City Secondary School and Emmanuel College in Owerri, where students were sensitized on the dangers of drug abuse.

    Speaking on the government’s broader strategy, Obinna highlighted engagements with traditional rulers, youth leaders, and community president generals in various autonomous communities to address the menace.

    He stressed the importance of collaboration in identifying and reporting drug peddlers to help reduce the circulation and demand for illicit substances.

    “We have organized workshops to enlighten key stakeholders on the adverse effects of illicit drugs.

    “We also encourage them to report individuals involved in drug trafficking, as reducing supply will, in turn, lower demand,” Obinna stated.

    Investigator news reports that the campaign underscores the global nature of drug abuse, which has become a major public health concern.

    Reports indicate that about 280 million people use drugs worldwide, with Nigeria accounting for approximately 50 million users.

    Some of the students who participated in the sensitization program expressed their resolve to stay away from drugs.

    “I have learned that drugs are dangerous for our future. I will also advise my peers to avoid them,” Jonas Victor said

    “The youth are the leaders of tomorrow. If we indulge in drug abuse, we may not live to fulfill that future,” another student, Adaeze Nnadimma added.

    The theme of World Cancer Day 2025: ‘United by Unique’, highlights the value of individualised, patient-centered care in the fight against cancer.

    The theme also highlights the importance of personalising treatment to each patient’s unique needs.

    In a statement signed by the minister’s Special Adviser on Media & Publicity, Mr. Jonathan Eze on Tuesday, the Minister pledged solidarity with women and families affected by cancer and reaffirmed her commitment to supporting their fight against the devastating disease.

    The statement reads in parts: “To the women and families affected by cancer, I want to assure you that you are not alone.

    “We stand with you in this fight, and we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that you receive the support and care you deserve.

    “Cancer affects everyone, but women are disproportionately impacted, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.

    “In Nigeria, breast and cervical cancers are among the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among women. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that women have access to quality healthcare, screening, and treatment services.

    “As we mark World Cancer Day, on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, I want to assure women across Nigeria that we are committed to supporting your health and wellbeing.

    The Coordinator of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Isolo Local Branch, Comrade Sikiru Akibu has called on Political leaders, Government parastatals, Stakeholders and individuals to adopt a right based approach to ending HIV/AIDS in Nigeria.

    Comrade Sikiru stated this when he participated in a campaign against HIV/AIDS organized by the Lagos State Ministry of Health, District VI on Thursday, December 12, 2024.

    He went further to emphasize the need for policies that support HIV prevention and treatment, while pointing out the detrimental effects of discriminatory laws and practices that stigmatize women, girls, and minorities.

    Zico as he is fondly called,commended the Lagos State Ministry of Health, District IV for putting up such an awareness as it will help to reduce the increase rate in HIV /AIDS syndrome.

    The Coordinator encouraged the youth to show compassion towards individuals living with HIV while also urging citizens to take steps to protect themselves from the virus.

    Investigator news reports that the event featured a health walk from Oshodi/Isolo Local Government to Mafoluku Primary Health Centre, where free HIV;/AIDS testing was provided along with health advice for the community.

    The International Association of World Peace Advocates, Lagos State Chapter,Nigeria led by Her Eminence Amb (Dr). Chinaza Jennifer Ugboaja and Heart of Gold Charity foundations are truly making a mark in style.

    In commemoration of the International day of persons with disabilities, the association called on the government and kind-hearted Nigerians to support humanitarian services for those living with disabilities.

    This call was made by the National Secretary of the association, Her Eminence Amb (Dr). Chinaza Jennifer Ugboaja during a programme organized for people with disabilities where over 300 persons living with disabilities, 150 widows, and 3 orphanage homes benefited in Lagos.

    The event, which included widows and orphans welfare programme and special thanksgiving, was made possible by the collaborative efforts of Heart of Gold Charity Foundations, Peculiar Voice of Hope, International Face of Integrity (Nigeria Chapter) IAWPA, and Chicason Group.

    Investigator news reports that the International day of persons with disabilities is observed annually on December 3, to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development.

    This year’s theme, “Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future,” highlights the importance of empowering persons with disabilities to take leadership roles in promoting inclusivity and sustainability.

    Investigator news gathered that the event coincided with the first presentation of the public appearance of His Eminence, Lord Mayor Alexander Chika Okafor, OFR as the International Lord Mayor of Peace.

    His Eminence, Lord Mayor Alexander Chika Okafor, OFR, is the Chairman/Executive of Chikason Group of Companies and the chairman of the occasion ably represented by his personal assistant, Dr. Tony Alaku who expressed his happiness to have first hand contact with these ‘special people’ and it has afforded us the opportunity to provide our shoulders for them to lean.

    Mrs. Uchenna Ofomata convener of Voices of Hope said she has noted the various needs of the vulnerable PWDs and that this will proper her Foundation to plan and do more next year.

Mazi Chuks Nwosu, advocated for inclusivity of persons with disabilities in politics and governance, stressing that physical disabilities do not equate to mental or intellectual disabilities.

    The lawmaker cited the example of para-athletes who won laurels in areas where able-bodied persons failed. He emphasized that persons with disabilities should not be marginalized in the workplace, education and employment.

    “The theme of IDPD 2024, amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future,emphasizes the crucial role persons with disabilities play in shaping a more equitable world”.

    “To achieve this, we must prioritize accessibility, inclusivity, and equity. We must work tirelessly to promote accessible infrastructure, inclusive education, employment, and healthcare systems, and support disability-led organizations.”

    “In Nigeria, we have made progress in promoting the rights of persons with disabilities. The Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018, and the National Disability Rights Commission Act, 2018, are notable examples.”

    “However, there is still much work to be done. Let us recommit ourselves to creating a world where persons with disabilities are valued, empowered, and recognized as equal members of society.”

    “Let us strive for a future where accessibility, inclusion, and equality are fundamental principles guiding our actions.”he submitted
