As part of its efforts to eradicate polio virus,measles,human papilloma virus and yellow fever completely in lsolo LGA,the Executive Chairman of Isolo LCDA,Hon Olasoju Adebayo, on Tuesday 21, October 2024 embarked on sensitization walk.

It will be recalled that the Council authority had on Saturday 19th October flagged off the massive vaccination exercise in conjunction with Lagos State Health District VI and Primary Healthcare Board, the exercise which includes Oral Polio and Measles Vaccination for children below 5 years, Human Palliomavirus Vaccine for age 9 to 14 years as well as Yellow Fever Vaccination for age 9 to 44 years is ongoing across the seven Primary Healthcare Centres subsisting in the council area as well other public places.

Hon Olasoju, who was joined by the Council’s Medical Officer of Health (MOH), Dr. Anne Okonma as well as the Vice Chairman and Supervisor for Health, Hon. Shakir Adeola alongside other top council officials maximised the Tuesday market day of Aswani Int’l Market where the council helmsman harped on the importance of the vaccination which are aimed at effectively curtailing the deadly diseases.

Speaking further, Olasoju, dressed in crested apron as his teeming entourage, cleared the various leftist remarks about the vaccines adding that they are safe for human health, urging those within the eligibility age-bracket to make the most of free exercise.

“We’ve come to inform you about the ongoing mass vaccination exercise against four deadly viruses like Polio, measles, yellow fever and Human Papillomas Virus because your health is important to us.”

“The vaccination is to immune you against these diseases and we urge you to make the most of this free exercise. Visit our PHCs or anywhere you see the designated health officials going about. It’s safe and healthy.”

“Please, tell someone to tell somebody that the vaccination is ongoing and it will run through Saturday 2nd November,” Olasoju who spoke in a mixture of Yoruba and English passionately announced.

The council boss after his address performed a symbolic non-skill-requiring indelibly staining of the left thumb of a vaccinated trader to the admiration of health workers at the duty-post and bystanders as well.

Earlier, the council boss hosted the leadership and members of Ward Health Committee Alliance across the Oshodi-Isolo LGA tasking them on the need to further domesticate the awareness exercise at the grassroots.

……..Organises Free Eye Screening, Treatment for Residents.

Taking his commitment to ensuring abundant life for residents of Isolo LCDA further, the Council Chairman, Hon Olasoju Adebayo in partnership with an NGO, “The Eye Doctors”, on Saturday 7, August 2024 provided free eye screening and treatment for hundreds of residents across the council area.

The healthcare program held at the council premises was aimed at commemorating this year’s World Sight Day.

Investigator news gathered that as early as 7 am, prospective beneficiaries had thronged the council secretariat to make the most of the free healthcare program which featured free Blood Pressure/Blood Sugar tests, free eye consultations, and distribution of reading glasses among others.

Hon Olasoju, in his address, described the healthcare program as yet another testament to his commitment to promoting good health and making life more meaningful for the residents as he recalled his previous numerous strides in walking the talk on his all-encompassing health policy.

He went on to commend the NGO for what he described as a commendable gesture of making Isolo their destination adding that the council area is ever-willing to partner with humanitarian organizations to carry out more meaningful and impactful programs. The council boss then led his cabinet members and councillors to undergo the various screenings.

One of the optometrists, who spoke on behalf of the organisation, Dr. Marygold Okiyi Madu expresssed delight in the partnership and support from the council authority.

Her words: “We are so thrilled at how the council chairman Hon. Bayo Olasoju welcomed us and keyed into the initiative. If we hadn’t gotten the support of the council this programme may not have seen the light of the day. Some LGs are not so receptive but because we know that Isolo LCDA chairman is interested in the health sector the idea to bring the initiative here became logical,” she said.

Speaking further: “Our focus is on dense cataract which can only be corrected with Surgery. We’ve seen people with early cataract which could be corrected with glasses. We are here for harvesting, to fish out eyes that need surgery. After this program and a similar one in Ajah, whoever we are booking for surgery will be contacted in October for surgery and also to properly commemorate the World Sight Day,” she concluded.

Responding the Council medical officer of Health, Dr. Anne Okonma assured of the council commitment to partnership on similar programs in the future as beneficiaries hailed the council boss and the partnering NGO for prioritising the people’s sight.

Buoyed by the need to give back to society and also complement the remarkable developmental efforts of the Olasoju Adebayo-led administration in Isolo LCDA especially in the healthcare sector, Junior Chambers International, Ikeja, on Friday through one of its departments ‘Big Broda’ made donations of hospital equipment to Ajao Estate Primary Healthcare facility.

The items which included two Double Crank beds, one examination bed, one oxygens gas cylinder, a Ward screen, and two drip stands among others were presented to the council boss on the council premises.

According to the president of the visiting NGO, Omowunmi Fakoya, the humanitarian efforts became important following a thorough need assessment exercise carried out in the health facility and the need to support the council’s efforts to ensure quality healthcare delivery for residents of the community.

Corroborating Fakoya’s remark, the Director of Big Broda, JCI Ikeja, Ediril Erhueh, added that the donation was in furtherance of the department’s commitment to acting its name out like a big brother will do to his younger ones.

According to him: “We have different departments in JCI one of which is ‘Big Broda’. What we have come to do today is act like a big brother to our younger ones; someone who is less privileged. We’ve only come to show ourselves as a big brother to Ajao Estate Health Center by this donation.”

The council chairman, Olasoju Adebayo commended the NGO for the handsome donation as he assured of effective and proper usage of the items for the benefit of residents in the elite community. He went on to charge well-meaning individuals, NGOs, and Service clubs alike to see the need to support the government in any way possible just as JCI has done.

“It’s a good one and I want to thank the NGO – JCI for deeming it fit and being thoughtful that giving back to society is a task for everybody.

The government alone cannot do it so they are here playing their part and we will play our part. On our end, we will make good use of what has been donated by JCI and we thank them and pray that God Almighty will replenish their pocket. We hope that other agencies and NGOs should emulate what JCI has done today,” the council boss said.

On her part, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Health District 6, Abimbola Mabogunje who witnessed the donation thumbed up the NGO for what she described as a kind gesture adding that the state is open to partnership for continued improvement in the health and other areas.

Investigator news reports that other items donated by the NGO included a resuscitator for kids, an electric pressure machine, a first aid box, and an Accu check.

The highlight of the event was the symbolic presentation of one of the equipment by the club’s president to the council boss who was flanked by the Permanent Secretary, the council medical officer of health, Dr. Anne Okonma as well as other JCI members and council staff.

As part of efforts to mitigate the spread of Mpox, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has donated 10,000 Jynneous vaccines to Nigeria.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday at the official handover, the Director General of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NHPCDA) Dr Muyi Aina, said the distribution of the vaccine will commence immediately and priority will be given to states with the highest cases and frontline workers.

He thanked the US government for the support and pledged to the judicious use of the vaccines which he said will help save lives and curb the spread of monkey pox across Nigeria.

Investigator news reports that the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has recorded a total of 39 confirmed cases and zero deaths from Mpox across 33 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The Director General of the NCDC, Jide Idris, made the revelation at a press briefing on the declaration of mpox as a public health emergency of international concern earlier in the month.

He said the NCDC is intensifying surveillance across Nigeria to swiftly detect and respond to new cases.

According to Idris, the NCDC all port health services across all five international airports, 10 seaports, and 51 land/foot crossing borders are on high alert.

He added that some states have also been put on high alert including Lagos, Enugu, Kano, Rivers, Cross-River, Akwa-Ibom, Adamawa, Taraba, and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu ‘Dullar,has stressed the importance of providing high-quality healthcare services and called for enhanced training programs for the hospital’s personnel to better serve patients.

Hon Salawu ‘Dullar’ who stated this when he welcomed the new Medical Director of Somolu General Hospital, Dr. Mustapha Quadri, along with his management team, noting that the visit underscored the ongoing efforts to ensure that the hospital remains highly responsive to community needs and prioritizes personnel training.

Chairman ‘Dullar’ who highlighted Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to constructing a state-of-the-art general hospital in Somolu, stating that the hospital is equipped with ultramodern medical equipment and skilled professionals

Speaking on behalf of the team,the Public Relations Officer stated that Somolu General Hospital offers a variety of clinics, including Ante-natal services on Mondays and Wednesdays, Obstetrics & Gynecology on Tuesdays, and Paediatric services from Monday to Friday. Other services such as Dental care and the General Outpatient Department (GOPD) are available throughout the week.

The Olasoju Adebayo-led administration of Isolo LCDA isn’t sitting on its oars and leaving anything to chance in ensuring a flood-free community as the council’s Department of Environment commenced desilting & carting away on the network of drainages in the council area with Akinbaye street being the first port-of-call on Wednesday.

The routine exercise saw workers dipping into the drainage on both sides of the street to unearth the facility to its depth while personnel of the supervising Environment Dept.- ensured that the job went on smoothly and seamlessly.

Though, among the council’s traditional round-the-year undertaking, this present desilting exercise is coming earlier than scheduled given the urgent need to mitigate the flooding occasioned by the heavy rains of July at Akinbaye (Down) as noted by the council boss.

Speaking to newsmen, the Head of Environmental Department, San. Toyin Okunola confirmed that the efforts will be extended to other areas requiring attention noting that adequate provision has been made for prompt evacuation of the wastes from the roadside as soon as they dry up.

Mrs. Okunola meanwhile, commended the road users and residents for their cooperation, she restated the council boss’ message of responsible waste disposal highlighting the consequences of indiscriminate waste disposal on the community.
