In a bid to enhance road safety and ensure stricter compliance with traffic regulations, the Director of Operations Delta State Traffic Management Authority (DESTMA), Engr Edema Francis has announced a strategic partnership with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA)so as to observe LASTMA’s operational blueprint, offender data capturing techniques, and data analytics processes, with the aim of replicating these best practices in Delta State.
This collaboration aims to address the growing concerns of traffic violations, road congestion, and accidents across the state.
Engr Edema made the announcement when he visited the sister agencies on Thursday 8,May 2025,alongside the Director – Technical Services of DESTMA Engr. Atufe Patrick.
He noted that the strategic working visit is aimed at understudying LASTMA’s acclaimed methodologies in urban traffic administration and enforcement and part of the itinerary, the DESTMA delegation will also tour critical traffic management institutions, including Lagos Traffic Radio and the Lagos State Command and Control Centre at the State Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.
The Director of Operations went further to expressed profound appreciation to the LASTMA leadership for the opportunity to glean insights from their expertise.
Receiving the delegates at the Agency’s headquarters in Oshodi, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, emphasized that the establishment of the agency in the year 2000 under the visionary leadership of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was a pivotal step towards revolutionizing traffic management in Lagos.
He reiterated that LASTMA was instituted to ensure the seamless flow of traffic and significantly reduce road mishaps throughout the state.
Mr. Bakare-Oki highlighted the institutional strength and statutory backing of the Agency, rooted in the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.
The General Manager explained that LASTMA’s structured operational framework, bolstered by over 4,000 dedicated personnel, enables it to effectively navigate the complexities of traffic control in a megacity like Lagos.
He further underscored the deployment of modern technology to enhance service delivery, particularly the use of the Traffic Management Solution (TMS) device, which allows real-time documentation of traffic infractions, minimizes physical confrontations with motorists, and mitigates disputes during enforcement.
Looking ahead, Bakare-Oki revealed that the forthcoming 25th anniversary celebration of the Agency will serve as a launchpad for a comprehensive 20-year Traffic Management Plan (TMP), strategically designed to support Lagos State’s broader economic and infrastructural ambitions.

A former executive of Zenith Bank,Hon Habeeb Omowunmi Anibaba on Thursday 1,May 2025,formally declared his intention to contest for the chairmanship position of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA),under the All Progressive Congress (APC) party.
The event which had in attendance Party stalwart,community leaders, artisans ethnic groups and members of ‘The Mandate Movement (TMM).’.
Addressing a large crowd of party leaders, supporters, and community members at the Ejigbo Mini Stadium, Ejigbo, Lagos,Hon Anibaba described his decision as “a pledge to serve, to uplift, and to advance the aspirations of the great people of Ejigbo.”
He stated that his desire to vie for the chairmanship position is to continue and elevate the community by taking Ejigbo LCDA from where it is to where it ought to be;a community of vision, empowerment, development and dignity as a reaffirmation of his roots and lifelong commitment to the Ejigbo community, where he has lived for over 30 years.
Anibaba noted that if elected his leadership style would be rooted in inclusivity, transparency, and grassroots-driven development.

The Chairmanship aspirant who had in time past contested the party primary election for the Chairmanship position in 2017 and was nominated by the TMM group in 2019 to run for House of Representatives but was asked to step down following the instructions of the leaders in the party, opined that he would not just be called Chairman but to be servant leader,an advocate and a voice at the table of governance.
While acknowledging the contributions and efforts of the incumbent Chairman, Alhaji Monsurudeen Oloyede-Bello, he pledged not to discard existing achievements but to build upon them and surpass the achievements of the incumbent chairman.
Speaking Earlier,the former Chairman of Ejigbo LCDA, and the leader of TMM,Hon Kehinde Bamigbetan called on APC members to drum support for Anibaba during the party’s primary election coming soon, saying that he is a trusted hand.

In a bold move that resets the rules of engagement in the Nigerian banking sector, Sterling Bank has removed transfer fees on its digital banking platform, OneBank.
This decisive move makes Sterling the first major Nigerian bank to forgo earning a cut from customer transactions on its own app.
The initiative marks a turning point in the industry and reflects the bank’s deep-rooted commitment to building a future where banking is affordable, accessible, and in tune with the everyday needs of Nigerians.
“This is not a gimmick. This is the future. And it starts now,” said Abubakar Suleiman, Chief Executive Officer of Sterling Bank, during a press briefing in Lagos.
“For years, Nigerians have paid fees just to move their own money. We’re saying no more.”
Suleiman explained that the decision stems from years of digital transformation. The bank builtba custom callback system capable of handling over five million customers, already processing more than 180 million transactions.
It also migrated entirely from a legacy European core to a homegrown platform built for scale, and deployed a private cloud environment with capacity
well beyond current and future demand.
“We’ve engineered a platform that can support 50 times our current customer base without breaking a sweat,” Suleiman added.

The zero-transfer-fee policy applies exclusively to users of OneBank, Sterling’s flagship digital app. New customers who sign up before April 30 will also receive a complimentary AfriGo debit card and lifetime access to fee-free transfers.

The Nigeria Police Force will commence training exercises for 10,000 new police recruits nationwide tomorrow April 12th, 2025.
Investigator news reports that the intensive training program is designed to equip the new recruits with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively serve and protect their communities, which will begin at various police colleges and training schools across the nation.
In preparation for the resumption, the Force Headquarters held an orientation ceremony for the Commandants and Directing Staff of the Training Institutions today April 11th 2025.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, represented virtually by the DIG in charge of the Department of Training and Development (DTD), DIG Frank Mba charged the Commandants of the Training Colleges and Schools to embrace the ongoing police reforms, uphold the highest ethical standards, and demonstrate firm professional conduct throughout the course of the training.
The IGP also expressed his administration’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of recruits on training, in areas of feeding and accommodation, and also ensuring they have a stable and conducive environment throughout their training period.
He charged the incoming recruits to be of good conduct, maintain policing ethics and positive character in the course of their training and career.

The camp of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State suffered a setback on Wednesday, as the party’s Publicity Secretary in the state, Kennedy Peretei, resigned his membership of the party.
Peretei made this disclosure via a statement he issued and made public in Akure, the state capital.
In the statement titled, ‘I Quit As The PDP In Ondo State Leaves The Intensive-Care Unit For The Morgue,’ the politician revealed that those who claim to be the leaders of the party have no intention to win elections now or in the future.
He said, “It is difficult to work with people whose interests are only themselves and how they can use the party to trade every election year.
“I wish to inform you about my decision to quit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as those who claim to be in the leadership of the party have no intention to win any elections, now or in the future.
“It is difficult to work with people whose interests are only themselves and how they can use the party to trade every election year.”
He explained that he has made various contributions to the party at every opportunity, lamenting that the leaders of the party have brought it down.
“I was privileged to serve as the State Financial Secretary of the PDP in its infancy (1999-2003) and served again as State Publicity Secretary, 2020 to date. I contributed my quota at every level.
“But the same people who have held the party hostage, making it impossible to win elections in the last three election cycles have tightened their grip on a party that laid prostrate at the Intensive Care Unit. The PDP in Ondo State is now on its way to the morgue,” he said.
“For those who depend on election funds and party patronage to run their families, I admonish them to seek second addresses so that they can live more meaningful lives than that of political bandits, Almajaris or just ‘Yes’ men.” he concluded.
Reacting to his allegations,the PDP in Ondo State said it was within the right of Peretei to freely belong to any association of his choice.
In a statement released the party, however, described Peretei’s allegations as “vulgar” and a “desecration of PDP”.
PDP Director of Media and Publicity PDP in Ondo, Leye Igbabo, wondered “how an unrealised personal ambition of an individual could have suddenly driven a whole organisation to an intensive care unit from where it is allegedly being taken to the morgue”.
Igbabo said, “The party finds it extremely amusing that Mr Kennedy Perertei who knew that an organisation was on its way to the morgue, could mindlessly seek and recklessly scheme to take the chairmanship position of such a ‘dead’ party!
“We therefore believe that Mr Kennedy Peretei may have slumped into the state of hallucination by saying a lively Party is on its way to the morgue when he actually meant to say that his chairmanship ambition has been taken to the morgue!
“Let it be known that our Party, the Peoples Democratic Party is alive and bouncing very well in Ondo State and the reason that everyone is jostling for its headship.”he submitted
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited board, removing its Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari and board chairman Pius Akinyelure.
Investigator news reports that the replacement takes effect from April 2, 2025, as announced by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga in an early Wednesday morning statement posted on X.
It will be recalled that Kyari was first appointed NNPC chief by former President Muhammadu Buhari but was reappointed in 2023 by President Tinubu
According to the statement, the president also appointed a new board including a new GCEO.
The statement read in part: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a sweeping reconstitution of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited board, removing the chairman, Chief Pius Akinyelure and the group chief executive officer, Mallam Mele Kolo Kyari. President Tinubu removed all other board members appointed with Akinyelure and Kyari in November 2023.
“The new 11-man board has Engineer Bashir Bayo Ojulari as the Group CEO and Ahmadu Musa Kida as non-executive chairman. Adedapo Segun, who replaced Umaru Isa Ajiya as the chief financial officer last November, has been appointed to the new board by President Tinubu.
“Six board members, non-executive directors, represent the country’s geopolitical zones. They are Bello Rabiu, North West, Yusuf Usman, North East, and Babs Omotowa, a former managing director of the Nigerian Liquified Natural Gas( NLNG), who represents North Central. President Tinubu appointed Austin Avuru as a non-executive director from the South-South, David Ige as a Non-executive director from the South West, and Henry Obih as a non-executive director from the South East. Mrs Lydia Shehu Jafiya, permanent secretary of the Federal Ministry of Finance, will represent the ministry on the new board, while Aminu Said Ahmed will represent the Ministry of Petroleum Resources.
“President Tinubu, invoking the powers granted under Section 59, subsection 2 of the Petroleum Industry Act, 2021, emphasised that the board’s restructuring is crucial for enhancing operational efficiency, restoring investor confidence, boosting local content, driving economic growth, and advancing gas commercialisation and diversification.
“President Tinubu also handed out an immediate action plan to the new board: to conduct a strategic portfolio review of NNPC-operated and Joint Venture Assets to ensure alignment with value maximisation objectives. Since 2023, the Tinubu administration has implemented oil sector reforms to attract investment. Last year, NNPC reported $17 billion in new investments within the sector. The administration now envisions increasing the investment to $30 billion by 2027 and $60 billion by 2030. The Tinubu administration targets raising oil production to two million barrels daily by 2027 and three million daily by 2030. Concurrently, the government wants gas production jacked to 8 billion cubic feet daily by 2027 and 10 billion cubic feet by 2030. Furthermore, President Tinubu expects the new board to elevate NNPC’s share of crude oil refining output to 200,000 barrels by 2027 and reach 500,000 by 2030.”he stated
President Tinubu thanked the old board members for their dedicated service to NNPC Limited, “particularly their efforts in rehabilitating the old Port Harcourt and Warri refineries,” and wished them well in their future endeavours.

In a harrowing and unfortunate incident,a deaf pedestrian lost his life in a fatal accident while waiting for a commercial bus at a designated stop along Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, inward Maryland, near Temac Filling Station, Ikeja, Lagos.
According to the release by the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, LASTMA,Adebayo Taofiq stated that the fatal collision involved two Suzuki mini commercial buses (Korope) bearing registration numbers EPE 279 YJ and BDG 558 YG, stating that preliminary inquiries indicate that one of the vehicles, owing to reckless over-speeding, veered out of control and violently rammed into a stationary mini bus before mercilessly mowing down the unsuspecting pedestrian.
Investigator news reports that demonstrating swift crisis intervention in alignment with the United Nations Response Time (UNRT), operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) promptly arrived at the scene, cordoning off the affected area and summoning law enforcement personnel from the Area F Police Division, who assumed custody of both vehicles for an exhaustive investigation.
Simultaneously, the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU), responding to an emergency distress call from LASTMA officials, undertook the dignified evacuation of the deceased’s remains to the General Hospital, Ikeja.
Reacting to this grievous occurrence, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family while issuing a stern admonition to commercial transport operators regarding the imperative of adherence to statutory traffic regulations.
He underscored the indispensable necessity of meticulous vehicular maintenance, with particular emphasis on the integrity of braking mechanisms to forestall preventable catastrophes.
Hon. Giwa went further to reiterate the Intelligence Transport System (ITS) speed limit sites at Alapere, Ogudu Road & Nitel, Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way are to monitor speed violation and improve traffic management, emphasizing their pivotal role in curtailing excessive acceleration among both private and commercial motorists.
He exhorted all drivers to exercise unwavering compliance with stipulated speed thresholds to mitigate reckless endangerment of lives and property.
“Ensuring road safety is a collective responsibility. Indiscriminate speeding and flagrant disregard for traffic laws constitute an existential threat to public safety. I implore all motorists to strictly operate within legal parameters to avert needless loss of human lives,” he asserted.
While expressing profound sympathy, Hon. Giwa also invoked divine solace for the grieving family, praying for fortitude in this time of irreparable loss.
