Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has congratulated Nigerians on the country’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

He described the occasion as a call to patriotism, unity, and shared responsibility to build a nation that guarantees peace, justice, and prosperity for all.

Ododo stated this on Wednesday, October 1, during his Independence Day message to Kogi citizens.

The Governor paid tribute to the nation’s founding fathers and acknowledged the resilience of Nigerians.

He said, “Today, as we join millions of Nigerians across the world to celebrate the 65th anniversary of our nation’s independence, we are reminded of the sacrifices of our founding fathers, the resilience of our people, and the unshakable hope that continues to drive us as one nation under God.

“Independence Day is more than a date on our calendar; it is a call to patriotism, to unity, and to the shared responsibility of building a nation that guarantees peace, justice, and prosperity for all. Our strength as a people lies in our collective courage to overcome challenges.

He also commiserated with families affected by a recent boat mishap in Ibaji Local Government Area.

“Even as we celebrate, we do so with heavy hearts over the unfortunate boat mishap in Ibaji Local Government Area, which claimed the lives of our brothers and sisters who were on their way to pursue their daily livelihood.

This tragedy reminds us of the fragility of life and the duty we owe one another to continually improve safety and support for our people. On behalf of the Government and the good people of Kogi State, I commiserate with the families of the victims, the Ibaji community, and all who are mourning at this time. We are with you in grief, and we shall not relent in making water transportation safer in our riverine communities.

Ododo highlighted his administration’s efforts to improve education, healthcare, infrastructure, and security in Kogi State. He urged citizens to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reforms and work together towards a brighter future for Nigeria.

“Fellow citizens, our administration remains steadfast in advancing the development of Kogi State through people-focused policies, infrastructural renewal, healthcare reforms, educational transformation, agricultural expansion, and improved security. We’re committed to laying foundations that will secure the future of our children.

“We have made education free and accessible in order to guarantee the independence of future generations from ignorance and limitations. Our administration is operating an Education Law that makes basic education compulsory.

“We’re also breaking barriers to girl-child education by ensuring that education is not only free for every girl, but also supported with cash transfers through the AGILE programme.”

“As Nigerians, let’s use this day to renew our love for our country, to shun division, and to rise above fear and doubt. Let’s work together in faith, unity, and courage, because the destiny of this nation is in our hands.”

“As patriotic citizens of this great nation, let’s continue to support the laudable reforms of our dear President, His Excellency Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose bold steps have set a template for sustainable development. As a nation, we are already beginning to reap the fruits of his courage.”

Hon. Oladipo Olayinka Ajomale, member representing Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly, has congratulated Nigerians on the country’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

In a congratulatory message, Ajomale saluted the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and commended the Renewed Hope Agenda, which is yielding results in various sectors.

“As our dear nation marks her 65th Independence Anniversary, I, Hon. Oladipo Olayinka Ajomale, member representing Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II at the Lagos State House of Assembly, join millions of Nigerians at home and abroad to celebrate this historic day of freedom, resilience, and unity.”

He urged Nigerians to remain united and steadfast in their pursuit of a greater Nigeria.

In another development,former Member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ganiyu Abiodun Johnson, has extended warm greetings to Nigerians as the country marks its 65th Independence Anniversary.

In a goodwill message, Johnson saluted the nation’s past heroes and urged citizens to emulate their values of courage, resilience, and vision.

He called on Nigerians to remain united, focused, and committed to nation-building, promoting peace, progress, and service to humanity.

“As we celebrate our Independence, let us reflect on our journey as a people and renew our commitment to unity, resilience, and progress. Together, with shared vision and unwavering faith, Nigeria will rise to greater heights,” he stated.

Johnson reaffirmed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, urging citizens to rally behind the administration to drive sustainable development.

He went further to congratulate Nigerians on this milestone and wished them a peaceful and fulfilling new month, praying for peace, progress, and fulfillment to every Nigerian household.

The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, a public holiday to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement signed and released on Monday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

According to the statement, Tunji-Ojo congratulated Nigerians at home and in the diaspora and urged citizens to uphold the patriotic spirit, unity and resilience that have sustained the nation since 1960.

“He urged Nigerians to further keep faith in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, which is anchored on national rebirth, economic transformation, and collective prosperity.

“The Minister expressed confidence that, with the cooperation of all Nigerians, the country will continue to grow stronger in peace, progress, and development,” the statement added.

He wished Nigerians a happy and memorable 2025 Independence Day celebration.

The Executive Governor of Kogi State,Governor Usman Ododo has congratulated the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on the occasion of her 65th birthday.

Ododo praised Senator Tinubu, describing her as “an Amazon and a source of inspiration to millions of Nigerians,” for her exemplary strength and dedication to the welfare of women, children, and the less privileged in the society

In a goodwill message on Sunday personally signed by him, Governor Ododo extolled the virtues of the First Lady, noting that her life has been defined by impact, devotion to God, and unwavering service to the nation.

“Your Excellency, we celebrate a life of compassion, exemplary strength, and dedication to the welfare of women, children, and the less privileged. You continue to inspire hope across Nigeria,” the Governor said.

While praying for God’s continued blessings upon Senator Tinubu, Ododo remarked that at 65, the First Lady embodies the grace of God and the testimony of a purposeful life.

He expressed confidence that the First Lady will continue to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and champion noble causes that will further uplift the nation.

“On behalf of the Government and people of Kogi State, I heartily rejoice with you, and I pray that the Almighty will grant you many more years in good health, wisdom, and strength,” Ododo added.
