    Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has congratulated Nigerians on the country’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

    He described the occasion as a call to patriotism, unity, and shared responsibility to build a nation that guarantees peace, justice, and prosperity for all.

    Ododo stated this on Wednesday, October 1, during his Independence Day message to Kogi citizens.

    The Governor paid tribute to the nation’s founding fathers and acknowledged the resilience of Nigerians.

    He said, “Today, as we join millions of Nigerians across the world to celebrate the 65th anniversary of our nation’s independence, we are reminded of the sacrifices of our founding fathers, the resilience of our people, and the unshakable hope that continues to drive us as one nation under God.

    “Independence Day is more than a date on our calendar; it is a call to patriotism, to unity, and to the shared responsibility of building a nation that guarantees peace, justice, and prosperity for all. Our strength as a people lies in our collective courage to overcome challenges.

    He also commiserated with families affected by a recent boat mishap in Ibaji Local Government Area.

    “Even as we celebrate, we do so with heavy hearts over the unfortunate boat mishap in Ibaji Local Government Area, which claimed the lives of our brothers and sisters who were on their way to pursue their daily livelihood.

    This tragedy reminds us of the fragility of life and the duty we owe one another to continually improve safety and support for our people. On behalf of the Government and the good people of Kogi State, I commiserate with the families of the victims, the Ibaji community, and all who are mourning at this time. We are with you in grief, and we shall not relent in making water transportation safer in our riverine communities.

    Ododo highlighted his administration’s efforts to improve education, healthcare, infrastructure, and security in Kogi State. He urged citizens to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reforms and work together towards a brighter future for Nigeria.

    “Fellow citizens, our administration remains steadfast in advancing the development of Kogi State through people-focused policies, infrastructural renewal, healthcare reforms, educational transformation, agricultural expansion, and improved security. We’re committed to laying foundations that will secure the future of our children.

    “We have made education free and accessible in order to guarantee the independence of future generations from ignorance and limitations. Our administration is operating an Education Law that makes basic education compulsory.

    “We’re also breaking barriers to girl-child education by ensuring that education is not only free for every girl, but also supported with cash transfers through the AGILE programme.”

    “As Nigerians, let’s use this day to renew our love for our country, to shun division, and to rise above fear and doubt. Let’s work together in faith, unity, and courage, because the destiny of this nation is in our hands.”

    “As patriotic citizens of this great nation, let’s continue to support the laudable reforms of our dear President, His Excellency Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose bold steps have set a template for sustainable development.     As Nigeria celebrates its 65th Independence Anniversary, the Nasrul-Lahi-L-Fatih Society (NASFAT) has announced a nationwide and global prayer initiative dedicated to the nation’s peace, unity, and progress.

    In a release signed by the National Public Relations Secretary,Alhaji Shamsideen Owolabi Oseni said that the prayers will hold simultaneously across more than 360 NASFAT locations worldwide, making the celebration not just a reflection of history but a call for divine guidance and renewal.

    According to him,the society has chosen Sunday, October 5th, 2025, during its weekly Asalatu program, as the special day of intercession.

    This initiative is designed to seek Almighty Allah’s mercy on the nation, its leaders, and its citizens. Prayers will focus on stability, economic growth, justice, and security, highlighting NASFAT’s conviction that spiritual intervention is crucial for national transformation.

    In the same vein, the President of NASFAT, Alhaji Ayodeji AbdulWahid AbdulRauf,has congratulated Nigerians on the landmark anniversary and extended warm greetings to members of the society globally.

    He described the Independence Anniversary as a reminder of both Nigeria’s challenges and its remarkable resilience, urging citizens to remain hopeful and committed to building a stronger nation.

    In his message, the President praised the efforts of Nigerians who continue to contribute to nation-building despite daunting circumstances.

    Alhaji AbdulRauf reaffirmed NASFAT’s mission of promoting peace, discipline, and social responsibility as pathways to sustainable development.

    The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, a public holiday to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

    The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement signed and released on Monday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

    According to the statement, Tunji-Ojo congratulated Nigerians at home and in the diaspora and urged citizens to uphold the patriotic spirit, unity and resilience that have sustained the nation since 1960.

    “He urged Nigerians to further keep faith in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, which is anchored on national rebirth, economic transformation, and collective prosperity.

    “The Minister expressed confidence that, with the cooperation of all Nigerians, the country will continue to grow stronger in peace, progress, and development,” the statement added.
