    Terungwa Ikon, aka Ortrees, a popular singer in Benue State, has been discovered several weeks after going missing in the North Bank, a suburb of Makurdi, the state capital.

    On Wednesday, April 23, 2022, the deceased went missing, according to reports.

    Before going missing, the singer was said to have left his elder brother’s house for their family’s home in Makurdi’s North Bank neighborhood.

    “He was never seen again until his body was discovered dumped near a river on Sunday, June 5, 2022,” a source said.
    The report was confirmed by state Police Public Relations Officer Catherine Anene, a Superintendent of Police.

    In a text message, Anene said, “It’s true.”
    She went on to say that the singer’s body was dumped in the river, and that several arrests had been made, with the suspects being suspected cultists.

    According to an official, at least 22 people were killed on Wednesday when a passenger van crashed into a ravine in southwestern Pakistan.

    While negotiating a sharp turn in the mountainous range of Killa Saifullah district, 333 kilometers (206 miles) from Quetta, the capital of southwestern Balochistan province, the ill-fated van crashed into a ravine.

    Only one passenger, a 13-year-old boy, survived the accident, said Mohammad Qasim Kakar, a top district official, over the phone to Anadolu Agency.
    He said the bodies had been recovered and that the injured survivor was in critical condition.

    Due to poor road infrastructure, traffic accidents are common in the large province of Balochistan, which borders Iran and Afghanistan.

    The province, which is strategically important due to the abundance of copper, zinc, and natural gas, has a massive 40,000-kilometer (24,855-mile) network of roads and highways, but none of them are dual-lane.

    The leadership of the Nigerian Medical Association’s South-West Zone has requested that the government apprehend the killers in Owo, Ondo State.

    Medical personnel condemned the incident and urged Ondo and neighboring states residents to provide the necessary health care.

    On Sunday, suspected terrorists attacked St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, killing several worshipers.

    The medical doctors issued a statement jointly signed by the zonal caucus Chairman, Dr. Ogunlaja Oladayo, and Caucus Secretary, Dr. Bolaji Salako, at their South-West emergency meeting.

    “The leadership of the Nigerian Medical Association, South-West zone, received with great shock the killing of innocent citizens in Owo, Ondo State,” the statement read in part.

    “This has become a recurring problem with no proactive measures in place to address this obnoxious trend.”

    “We vehemently condemn this heinous crime in its entirety.”

    “We demand that the government and security apparatus act quickly to apprehend these unscrupulous members of our community.

    “We wish the families of the deceased the strength to bear the irreparable loss, and we wish the injured a speedy recovery.”

    “We urge our members in Ondo and neighboring states to continue providing critical health care.”

    In Edo, Eight suspects in police net for alleged attempted $2bn fraud

    According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), eight suspects are currently being held in the Edo Police Command for alleged attempted fraud.

    The suspects were arrested for allegedly attempting to defraud the Federal Government of $2 billion dollars, according to SP Chidi Nwabuzor, command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), who briefed reporters on Tuesday.

    He also stated that the arrest followed a complaint received by the command’s crack team on April 25 via a petition from one High Chief Richard David, a representative of the Okpella community in the state’s Etsako Central Local Government Area.

    He explained that on July 14, 2021, the suspects appeared before the complainant and his relatives and informed them that they had received approval from the Federal Government, via the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), to evacuate scrap bore-hole pipes equipment worth $2 billion.

    “The equipment was provided by the Federal Government through the Petroleum Trust Fund for the Okpella water project” (PTF).

    “The frightened members of the community wisely prohibited the items from being evacuated.

    “However, one of the suspects went to the Okpella police station to report that the community refused to allow them to evacuate the items.

    “During the investigation, one of the suspects, who works for the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs in Abuja, confessed to the truth of the matter,” the police said.

    “The accused also admitted to forging the presidency’s approval for the operation’s auctioneer documents.”

    “The investigation is over, and the suspects will be charged in court shortly,” Nwabuzor said.

    CP Abutu Yaro, the Edo Commissioner for Police, had created operations department annexes to bring police visibility to communities and grassroots, according to the PPRO.

    This, he continued, demonstrated that the CP was well-versed in policing operational orders.

    Residents of the state were urged to assist the command by “saying something when they see something” about suspected criminals and criminal activities.

    Meanwhile, one of the suspects, a member of the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs’ staff and a Principal Administrative Officer, claimed to be the sole author of the fake document.

    “I am the sole originator of the forged document purporting to be from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation,” he claims (SGF).

    “The plan was developed in collaboration with IREK Engineering LTD, a company based in Benin.

    “I got the letter from the wrong side because the documents addressed to the Edo Governor, the Edo Commissioner of Police, and all relevant security agencies were forged.”

    He revealed that the only money he received as a token of appreciation for his efforts throughout the process was N500,000.

    Police in Nasarawa State have apprehended twenty-four suspected political thugs.

    Officers from Keffi Area Command apprehended them at Minki Suites on the Keffi-Akwanga Road.

    Muyiwa Adejobi, a spokesman for the Force, said in a statement on Tuesday that the suspects were working for a 2023 aspirant.

    Adejobi revealed that the politician ran in the Nasarawa West Senatorial primaries.

    After a convoy of seven private vehicles entered the hotel, the police acted on information.

    Eight pump action guns, two locally made revolver guns, 37 rounds of live cartridges, and four bulletproof vests were discovered.

    Adejobi went on to say that the thugs “carry out their heinous acts under the guise of being members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN).”

    Two teens were sentenced to 24 months in a juvenile corrective home by an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday for stabbing a kid.
    The children denied the two-count accusation of assault and creating a breach of the peace.

    Magistrate Olajumoke Somefun, who delivered the verdict, stated that the prosecution had established beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendants were guilty as charged.

    Ms Somefun ruled that they be held in Borstal home correctional center for 24 months without the option of paying a fee.

    The lads committed the act on April 19, at 10:00 a.m., at Railway, Lafenwa area in Abeokuta, according to the prosecution counsel, Olakunle Shonibare.

    Mr Shonibare said that they tried to extort money from him and stabbed him in the head with a broken bottle, causing him physical harm.

    He went on to say that the two prisoners also broke bottles in the neighborhood, which he said was likely to provoke a breach of peace.

    The offence, according to the prosecutor, was in violation of sections 249 and 355 of the criminal code of Ogun, 2006.

    Hajia Laure Mai Kunu, the elderly mother of Kano Central Senatorial candidate under the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Abdussalam Abdulkarim AA Zaura, has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen, according to reports.

    Hajia Mai Kunu was apprehended on Monday morning at her residence in the Rangaza ward of Zaura village in Kano State’s Ungogo Local Government Area (LGA).

    Engr Abdullahi Garba Ramat, chairman of the LGA, confirmed the incident on his official Facebook page. “Innalillahi wa inna’ilaihirraj’un, We just awoke to the sad news that unknown gunmen stormed Ungogo LGA early this morning and whisked AA ZAURA’s mother away to an unknown destination. Allah ka kubutar mana da Baba Laure.”

    The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said the All Progressives Congress (APCsilence )’s on Sunday’s gruesome terrorist attack and killing of innocent worshippers at St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, confirmed the ruling party’s complicity in the terrorist attack across the country.

    The PDP also chastised President Muhammadu Buhari for what it called a “lame and disconnected press statement.”

    The opposition party said in a statement issued Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, that the presidential statement lacked the empathy, concern, assurances, and commitment expected of a Commander in Chief.

    The PDP also called the statement feeble and insensitive, saying that “the statement by the Presidency is a further confirmation of the APC administration’s tacit sympathy for terrorism.”

    “This is because, in saner climes, the President would personally address the nation on the gruesome murder of many citizens under his care,” the statement said in part. President Muhammadu Buhari’s silence is deafening, and it points to public allegations that terrorists are receiving tacit accommodation from the highest levels of the APC administration.

    “It is truly unforgivable that, while terrorists were murdering our citizens in Owo, President Buhari was busy in the comfort, luxury, and safety of the Presidential Villa, having dinner with APC leaders and conducting political meetings aimed at perpetuating APC’s fraudulent, insensitive, inhumane, and vicious government on hapless Nigerians.”

    “Such actions by the APC and President Buhari, who has woefully failed to lead the fight against terrorism from the front lines, continue to embolden terrorists to carry out more heinous attacks on our citizens.”

    “The APC’s inexcusable stance also lends credence to Nigerians’ fears that the APC is planning to orchestrate a crisis in various parts of the country in order to derail the scheduled 2023 general elections.”

    The PDP also claimed that the APC has never strongly condemned terrorist attacks in Nigeria since the revelation that the party allegedly imported outlaws from neighbouring countries to help it rig the 2019 general elections.

    The PDP has challenged the APC to come clean about their support for terrorists.

    The opposition party also urged Nigerians not to despair, but to remain united and vigilant.

    The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has urged its members in Ondo State and surrounding areas to mobilise and assist in the treatment of those injured in Sunday’s Catholic church attack in Owo.

    Dr. Uche Ojinmah, President of the NMA, issued the call on Sunday in a statement following a gunman attack on worshippers at St. Francis Catholic Church on Owa-luwa Street in Owo.
    He also urged Nigerians in the affected areas of the state to donate blood to hospitals where the injured were being treated in order to save lives.

    Ojinmah stated that the NMA was shocked and saddened by the heinous attack on innocent worshippers.
    “Our dear country’s recurring shedding of innocent blood has gone on for far too long.”

    “The NMA believes that explanations, condemnations, and reassurances are no longer comforting.
