    Nigeria is on the verge of collapse in 2023, but I can fix it — Obi

    Mr. Peter Obi, a presidential aspirant from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former governor of Anambra State, has given a bleak image of Nigeria’s position, warning that the country is on the verge of collapse, but insisting that if elected, he has what it takes to turn things around.

    Obi, who spoke to Anambra delegates and other stakeholders in Awka as part of his ongoing engagements across the country ahead of the PDP presidential primary, expressed disappointment that Nigerians had prioritised sharing over production.

    “Despite her great economic potentials, JP Morgan, an international organisation, has concluded that Nigeria is no longer an investment destination,” he remarked. Nigeria is on its way down, and my job is to keep the delegates toasty while they make their primary choices.

    “I am dedicated to this cause, and I am confident that I have what it takes to turn the country around.”

    I’ve travelled throughout the country and discovered that the people are in excruciating pain. If I am elected president, we will place a greater emphasis on the production formula rather than the current sharing formula. We do nothing but share in this country, with little emphasis on manufacturing.

    “I am optimistic that the country can be fixed, but it will take someone like me to do so.” No one is better equipped and qualified than me among all those hoping to run for office in both parties.”

    He reminded the stakeholders that Anambra is a PDP state, and that the state must take its proper place within the party, notwithstanding the state branch’s current issues.

    He reminded them, “My argument is that we should go to the primaries as a family because all eyes would be on Anambra delegates.”

    He also urged the delegates to welcome all of the candidates who are going to campaign in the state, saying that they are all out shopping and that he has no enemies.

    Also speaking at the event, Chief Doyin Okupe, the director general of his campaign group, said it would be sheer wickedness to deny Igbos the presidency in 2023, noting that Nigeria would be fortunate to have Peter Obi as president.

    Many prominent Yoruba people, he claims, share his viewpoint and are working hard to ensure that an Igbo man becomes the next president.

    “Those parading themselves in Yoruba country should understand the notion of equity,” he continued. I recall that in what was deemed Nigeria’s most free election, the Igbo people overwhelmingly voted for MKO Abiola.

    “Although I am very competent, I am unable to run since I am aware that it is Igbo’s turn and that Peter Obi is better equipped to fill the position.”

    “Among those arriving from the East, Peter is the best, and he is superior to all others vying to be president.”

    “This man has travelled the globe in search of knowledge, and he is the most qualified person to govern this country.”

    Following the meeting, the Anambra delegates voted a resolution urging other Igbo presidential candidates to withdraw in favour of Obi, so that the South East could go to the primaries as an unified front and show their best.

    Chuba Oranusi, a former member of the State House of Assembly, proposed the motion.

    2023: We Will Give 90% Votes To Amaechi – Taraba APC

    Taraba State chairman of All progressives Congress (APC) Barr. Ibrahim Tukur El-Sudi, on Monday promised that the state party delegates would give 90 percent of their votes to the former minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi to win the party’s presidential ticket.

    The APC chairman made the disclosure during Amaechi’s presidential consultative visit to Jalingo, the state capital.

    El-Sufi said the party was grateful for what he referred to as Amaechi’s enormous interest in Taraba State and pledged in consonance with the delegates to deliver at least 90 percent of their votes to the aspirant to clinch the party presidential ticket.

    “Our delegates know how to separate the chaff from the grain, we are assuring you that 90 percent of our votes will go to you. Our Emir has already spoken, therefore you should be guaranteed of 90 percent (delegate votes).

    “You are a grassroots politician, we know how you came up in Rivers State to become member of House of Assembly, Governor two times and by the grace of God you just resigned as a Minister. Most of our delegates are legislators and I believe they will be very much comfortable with you” El-Sudi assured.

    Earlier, the presidential aspirant, Rotimi Amaechi told the delegates that Taraba State was key to Nigeria as it is one of the highest producers of food in the country.

    According to Amaechi, he will build on President Muhammadu Buhari’s existing agricultural policies to transform Taraba State since it was rich in agro production.

    The former minister also promised to invest in the Mambilla hydropower project to boost power generation and distribution as well as create jobs for the people of Taraba State.

    “Trust me on this, I’m going to invest in Mambilla Power project. Take it for free, I know what is wrong with Mambilla, because I was among those who went to negotiate it in China. So, if you vote for me, you’re voting for yourself, because the jobs that will be created here, will be for the people of Taraba. The next critical thing I will invest in here is agriculture and the value chain will bring industrial development to Taraba” Amaechi promised.

    It was reports that the presidential aspirant also visited the Emir of Muri, Alhaji Abbas Tafida, in his palace in Jalingo.

    A list of governors who signed the expression of interest and Presidential Nomination forms of Ex-Lagos Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was obtained, according to the report.

    Tinubu, a frontrunner for the All Progressives Congress’s presidential ticket, received support from 12 governors and 37 statutory delegates.

    The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, submitted the APC National Leader’s form to Party officials in Abuja on Wednesday.

    “Just in: frontline @OfficialAPCNg presidential aspirant @officialABAT this afternoon submitted his expression of interest and nomination forms to the @OfficialAPCNg officials at the International Conference Centre, Abuja,” the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Lagos State, Gboyega Akosile, wrote in a tweet. Babachir Lawal, former SGF, and Gov. @jidesanwoolu submitted on his behalf.”

    Three serious house of assembly aspirants YPP should consider for it’s tickets in Nnewi

    The number of aspirants joining the race for the Anambra state house of assembly ticket of the young progressive party (YPP) for Nnewi North constituency seems to be taking a new turn, leaving on its trail the marks of three serious contenders in the persons of Hon. Sir Nnamdi Udeaja (CEO of Banquo Global Agency), Sir. James Okoye (MD Jalou Events) and Sir. Augustine Onyedika Ike-Ikedoji (Publisher Bell News).

    The three trailblazers in their various fields seem to be gathering lots of momentum in the hearts of the people, most especially Nnamdi Udeaja, who stands out as the destined one and is working assiduously hard towards getting the ticket.

    Notwithstanding the pivotal role rumored to be played by the incumbent senator-elect of the party in having the option of endorsing or rather anointing a candidate whom he chooses to favour to ride on his popularity in the state.

    An unbiased nomination is more serious because their choice will not be a mere party affair but a candidate not only with the ability to win but a capacity for problem-solving, as seen in the person of Nnamdi Udeaja.

    The same should also go for the main ruling party in the state, the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), whose delegates will be exercising similar responsibility to choose leaders like Comrade Uzo Nwosu as well.

    Nnamdi Udeaja, aka Banquo, who hails from Edoji Uruagu, is a graduate of political science from Nnamdi Azikiwe University.

    Alhaji Ibrahim Tukur El-Sudi, the All Progressives Congress (APC) state chairman, has swore in and inaugurated four party local government chairmen for the state’s Takum, Ussa, Ibi, and Wukari local government areas.

    El-Sudi, who oversaw the swearing-in and inauguration of officials at the party office in Jalingo, said he was following instructions from the party’s national secretariat.
    He claimed that when the new officials were sworn in and removed, those who had previously been elected and sworn in could no longer parade as party officials.
    “In order to remedy the irregularity that occurred at our national convention, I wrote to the national secretariat, requesting the authentic list of delegates.” I was given a list of new people from these four local government regions by the national secretariat, and I am required to engage with them.

    “I’ll have to swear them in as our constitution requires.” Anyone who is unsure about this can contact the national secretariat for clarification. “All I’m doing is following orders,” he explained.

    2023: Wike, Amaechi face zoning battle in Rivers

    The general elections of 2023 are still reverberating. It is a political tendency that is predicted to spread throughout the federation’s States, regions, and geopolitical zones.

    It’s not only about the normal electioneering campaigns, propaganda, voting, and contentious election outcomes this time. The desire for equity and fairness in all of the country’s micro-zones appears to be at the forefront.

    This is the situation in River State, where the people are demanding equity from the governing political bloc in the uplands.

    The ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressives Congress, APC, as well as other fringe parties, are vying for the 2023 gubernatorial election in the state.

    Senator Magnus Abe and his primary competitor, Tony Cole, are both APC guber candidates from Rivers.

    Cole is supposed to be the consensus candidate in the APC camp led by former Transport Minister and APC presidential candidate Chibuike Amaechi. Despite being in the same party, Abe and Amaechi each have their own APC parallel structures.

    Abe recently accused Amaechi of attempting to “sell the spirit of the State” at a ceremony in Okrika town.

    “We are here to inform you that the soul of our dear State is on the line,” he said. The red flag has been raised, indicating that danger is approaching. Rivers State’s soul cannot be sold.

    “Our transformers, the Olympia hotel, were purchased by Tony Cole. They will sell the entire state if he returns. The Minister began the process of his second imposition by plotting out those who worked with him, just to bring in a guy from Lagos to lead us for the second time.

    “I implore you to join me in opposing the plot against our country. Tonye Cole is unfamiliar with Rivers State, and Rivers State is unfamiliar with him. We don’t want a governor who is far away. If Amaechi wants him to be our governor, he must first restore all of our property that Amaechi sold to him while he was in office.”

    Felix Obuah, former PDP State Chairman, Padonson Gabriel, Senator Lee Ledogo Maeba, and Hon. Isaac Kamalu are among the prominent PDP candidates from the upland Rivers.

    Kamalu was finance commissioner and immediate previous commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, as well as former Chief Whip of the State Assembly, while Maeba was a PDP Senator representing Rivers South-East from 2003 to 2007.

    Gabriel was also the former chairman of the Gokhana Local Council Area and afterwards served in the legislature for the Gokhana State seat from 2003 to 2007. He also served as Chief of Staff to the ill-fated Omehia governorship.

    Wike, on the other hand, has his own hidden strategy. According to sources, the furious Governor is already displaying fake confidence as he considers appointing a crucial and trusted member of his cabinet as his successor in 2023.

    Wike’s intentions included using the State’s Accountant-General, Fubara Siminayi, as his successor, according to further inquiry. Siminaye comes from the riverine Opobo-Nkoro political bloc and was the previous Director of Finance, DF, of the Government House.

    The Governor is currently rumoured to be considering Tammy Danagogo, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), as a prospective replacement. Danagogo hails from the state’s riverine Akuko-Toru Council Area.

    Danagogo had also worked with the state and federal governments in a variety of positions. He was the chairman of the Akuko-Turo Local Government Council, the former Commissioner for Urban Development under Amaechi’s governorship, and the former Sports Minister under former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s presidency.

    There are three senatorial districts in Rivers State. Senatorial districts Rivers East, Rivers West, and Rivers South East are the three.

    The senatorial district of Rivers East includes Ikwerre. It is the most populous of four main local government areas. The Ogonis are the next most populous tribe. Kana, Gohkana, Taia, and Eleme local council regions make up Ogoni.

    The riverine people, which include the Ijaw and Ogoni ethnic groups, are currently declaring that it is their time to create the next governor of the state. The Ogoni have even claimed that they have never held the offices of Governor, Deputy Governor, or Speaker of the State Legislature.

    To the exclusion of the people of the South East and Rivers West senatorial districts, only the upland people of Rivers East senatorial district have alternatively been chosen governors of the state.

    People from the Rivers upland have been occupying the BrickHouse, the State’s administration structure, turn by turn since the fourth Republic began on May 29, 1999.

    Former Governor Peter Odili was the catalyst. His term as governor lasted from 1999 until 2007. The governorship of Celestine Omehia was short-lived. A court ruling cut short his term, although he was quickly succeeded by Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, who served as governor for eight years from 2007 to 2015. Amaechi and Omehia are first cousins.

    Amaechi resigned from the then-ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the platform on which he ascended to prominence, to the then-newly formed All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the 2015 general elections.

    He intended to use his incumbency to transmit the governor baton to another zone, but his long-awaited plan fell through.

    This is due to the fact that Hon. Dakuku Peterside, the 2015 APC governorship candidate and former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime and Safety Administration, NIMASA, hailing from the Riverine Opobo-Nkoro council area, lost to Governor Nyesom Ezenwa Wike, the then PDP flagbearer and 2023 PDP presidential aspirant. Wike is from the highland Ikwerre hegemony’s Obiakpor Council Area. He is a two-term governor whose term will expire on May 29, 2023, according to the state constitution.

    It is, nonetheless, a truth that the people of the Rivers upland are in charge of the state politically and economically. With a sizable election war chest at their disposal, it will only take a strong political will to correct the state’s glaring power inequities.

    By May 29, 2023, the Rivers upland will have had 24 years of uninterrupted government rule.

    The littoral people of the State have elevated the stakes of their agitation for power rotation in 2023 on these premises.

    However, the upland political establishment has long ignored this solitary demand for a governorship rotation in the state.

    Aisha Buhari charges APC women to get people to vote for female candidates

    Aisha Buhari, the wife of Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, urged APC supporters to rally behind female candidates on Saturday in Abuja.

    Ahead of the party’s primary elections, she addressed a summit of female APC aspirants.

    She explained that the summit’s goal was to unite the party’s female candidates so that they could win the party’s primary elections and the general election in 2023.

    “I will be with you; I will stand by and defend you as the wife of the president,” she said.

    According to her, in order to gain a foothold in politics, women must unite and work hard.

    Aisha urged women to take responsibility for their own well-being in order to promote gender equality and increase the number of women in elected office.

    “Our party’s efforts to increase female participation are commendable.

    Her words, “I appreciate the party’s recent gesture of offering free nomination forms for female Aspirants,” are apt.

    The APC announced in April that all elective offices in the general election of 2023 would be open to women candidates for the first time in the country’s history.

    A Federal High Court in Abuja had just ruled that the government must implement a 35% affirmative action policy for women, and that was just 24 hours earlier.

    However, female aspirants must pay the prescribed fees for submitting Expressions of Interest.

    A 50 percent discount on the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms was offered to female candidates in the party prior to April’s waiver.

    As part of her plea to the party’s leadership, Aisha requested that the 35 per cent affirmative action be included in the party’s Constitution to ensure that women’s aspirations for elected and appointed positions are protected.

    She thanked the party’s leaders and Progressive Governors for their long-standing support of APC women and urged them to keep up the good work.

    It is time to “believe in women and show us more solidarity during elections,” she said.

    Aisha’s advice to the female candidates was to remain steadfast in their pursuit of political office.

    National Women Leader Betta Edu in her remarks lauded Mrs. Olusegun Obasanjo as an inspiration to women in Nigeria for her determination to fight for the rights of women.

    When the president’s wife made her first appearance in Nigeria’s legislature to advocate for women’s rights, she said, “History will never forget you.”

    Also, Aisha received praise from Edu for her role in persuading the party to provide free nomination forms to women candidates.

    In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), a female aspirant expressed her desire to win the competitions, which she requested to remain anonymous.

    An additional contender for the party’s flag, Nana Hauwa Ibrahim, from the Lafia-Obi Federal Constituency in Nasarawa State, expressed confidence in his ability to do so.

    Because of the lack of democracy dividends since Nigeria’s return to democracy, her constituents are looking for a change of political landscape in their area.

    Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret.) congratulated Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, the new President of the United Arab Emirates, on Saturday. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed was chosen by a Federal Supreme Council to replace his late half-brother, Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed, as President.

    In a statement signed by Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, he said, “President Buhari congratulates the new leader of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed, and says Nigeria looks forward to even better relations.”

    On Saturday, Buhari congratulated the new leader on becoming the leader. He said, “I know it won’t be easy to fill the shoes of the late Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed, who had a lot of experience and was a good leader, but I’m sure that his successor is just as well prepared for the work ahead.”

    “Your predecessor did a lot to change the UAE in a big way. He made it a huge business and tourist hub, built infrastructure, and made it one of the best places to live in the world. I’m sure you’ll build on what your half-brother started and make it even better.”

    The President also said, “Nigeria looks forward to more cooperation with the UAE, which has helped Nigeria a lot in finding illegal assets and tracking down terrorist funds.” He added, “Dubai is a reliable partner for Nigeria’s progress, and I’m sure that under the new leader, this cooperation will grow and get stronger.”

    I pray that President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed will be guided and wise by God as he takes on this huge job.
