    Breaking: Terrorists release 11 kidnapped train passengers

    After intense negotiations between FG and the terrorists, the media consultant of Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, Malam Tukur Mamu has revealed that 11 kidnapped train passengers were released on Saturday by the terrorists.

    He said the 11 victims that were released have been flown on the orders of President Buhari to Abuja for medical evaluation and treatment before the decision to reunite them with their grieving families.

    According to him, some retired Army Generals and a renowned professor also assisted toward the release of the passengers.

    Ondo church attack: NANS sends message to Buhari, Akeredolu

    The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has strongly denounced the attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owa-luwa Street, Owo town, Owo Local Government Area, Ondo State, and the barbaric massacre of numerous parishioners there.

    In a statement, the students’ group urged the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government and the Ondo State Government, led by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, to address the escalating insecurity in Owo town and guarantee that those responsible for the “massacre” are brought to justice.

    In a statement, Comrade Oladimeji Uthman, Executive Director, Campus Intervention, NANS National Secretariat, denounced how gunmen attacked the church on Sunday during its Pentecost Sunday liturgy and shot several people to death.

    “It is with great sadness that we report that while the Holy Mass was in progress, unknown gunmen attacked and opened fire on members of the church, killing several and injuring dozens more.” This is heartbreaking. Uthman described the situation as “inhumane, sarcastic, diabolical, and pitiful.”

    He expressed concern because Owo Local Government Area is home to one of the state-owned tertiary institutions, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, and asked security forces to guarantee that the attackers do not get away with it.

    “Waking up to such heartbreaking news as this is an unanticipated development is terrible and cruel.” The culprits of the Owo atrocity must be held accountable.

    “The student body’s leadership condemns this satanic action in its entirety, since this regrettable episode is highly condemnable and constitutes a severe threat to our collective survival as a people.”

    “Since a matter of urgency, the chiefs of security agencies should deploy their personnel to the community to monitor and restore normality, as the lives of our students studying in Owo town are very important to us as a leadership.”

    “We urge all Nigerian students in Florida to be law-abiding, alert, and not to take the law into their own hands.”

    Kidnappers demand N100m for Methodist Prelate Kanu-Uche, 2 others

    The kidnappers have demanded N100 million in ransom from His Eminence, Samuel Kanu-Uche, the Prelate of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, and two other church priests.

    The Bishop of Owerri, Rt. Rev. Dennis Mark, and the Prelate’s Chaplain were kidnapped on Sunday in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia, according to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN).

    They were kidnapped while on their way home from a council-sponsored event.

    In a statement to the press on Monday, the Conference Secretary, the Rt. Revd. (Dr.) Michael Akinwale, confirmed the demand.

    He urged all parishioners to come forward and help raise the N100 million ransom.

    “Everyone has been shocked by the news of our Prelate, the Bishop of Owerri, and the Prelate’s Chaplain being kidnapped.

    “This is a time of testing, and the Church must cry out that ‘The Lord Who Answereth by Fire’ must be our God in order to destroy the adversary’s manipulations.

    “Let us all get up and pray to the Lord!”

    “As we engage in Prayer Warfare, please be advised that the abductors have demanded a ransom of N100 million.”

    “Given the urgency of the situation and the critical need to arrest it for the safety of our Prelate and other abductees, it has become necessary to seek your URGENT RESPONSE to raise the N100 million ransom.”

    “The safety of the Prelate and other abductees must be a top priority for everyone, and your spiritual and financial contributions will not go unnoticed.”

    According to NAN, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna, the Police Public Relations Officer in Abia, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Sunday.

    “It’s a pity,” says the narrator. Efforts to save him and the other priests with him are in high gear.

    “Please, we seek credible information from the public in order to save them,” Ogbonna had said.

    Breaking: Gunmen in Anambra attack broadcast station, set fire to vehicles, building

    Unidentified gunmen broke into the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) Awada, Onitsha station in the early hours of Monday.

    A building, a company bus, and another vehicle parked on the premises belonging to a staff member who had worked overnight were set on fire by gunmen suspected of being part of those terrorising the State for over a year.

    According to reports, no one was killed in the attack, but the gunmen brutalised the employees they encountered on the premises, injuring them.

    As of the time of writing, a member of staff who requested anonymity said they were being questioned by security agents about the attack.

    He promised to give a detailed account of the gunmen’s attack on them, as he had worked all night and witnessed it.

    Anambra Broadcasting Service, a state-owned corporation, has been assisting the state government in its fight against rogue gunmen.

    Nasarawa: Gunmen kill ex-gov aspirant’s agent, abduct two daughters

    Zakari Umaru-Kigbu, a former commissioner of the Nasarawa State National Population Commission, was killed by gunmen who stormed his home in Azuba Bashayi, Lafia Local Government Area on Saturday night.

    According to reports, gunmen killed Umaru-Kigbu, 60, and abducted his two daughters at about 11:40 p.m. on Saturday.

    According to a source, Umaru-Kigbu, a lecturer at the state-owned Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic in Lafia, acted as an agent for former Minister of Information Labaran Maku in the Peoples Democratic Party’s Nasarawa state governorship primary election.

    Maku, on the other hand, had dropped out of the governorship primary election just hours before it started.
    “Mr. Umaru-Kigbu was a man who believed in peace. In this state, he has had the honour of holding a number of positions. We don’t know who he may have offended, and we don’t know why he died so soon. Everyone knows he avoids conflict, so we’re shocked to hear such bad news,” the source continued.

    ASP Ramhan Nansel, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Sunday, saying that officers from the command had been dispatched to the scene of the attack to restore normalcy, secure the release of Umaru-two Kigbu’s daughters, and apprehend the kidnappers.
    “On Saturday night, the Police Command received a distress call about the tragic incident that occurred at Azuba Bashayi, Lafia North Development Area in the Lafia Local Government Area,” Nansel said.

    “We immediately dispatched our command patrol teams, as well as military personnel, to the scene of the incident to assist the Nigeria Police Force in rescuing his two daughters and apprehending the perpetrators of the act.”

    “Umaru-Kigbu was rushed to the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital in Lafia, but he died there due to his bullet wound.”

    The clergymen were kidnapped in the afternoon, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), while on their way home from a programme in the council area.

    “It’s a pity.” Efforts to save him and the other priests with him are at a fever pitch.

    To avenge the deaths of two colleagues, over 100 motorcyclists attacked Same Global Estate in Abuja’s Lokogoma area.

    On Sunday, a motorist is said to have hit two Okada riders and fled into the estate for safety.

    The Okada riders allegedly set fire to two of the estate’s buildings.

    The motorcyclists attacked the estate, residents told our correspondent, in an attempt to apprehend an unknown motorist.
    The motorist was pursued by a large group of motorcyclists after he overtook two of them, according to the witnesses.

    Security operatives had arrived on the estate, according to reports, to prevent further property damage.

    “Over 100 Hausa bike riders attacked our estate some hours ago,” said the estate manager, Mr. Adebisi Adelowo, who spoke. They set fire to two buildings in an attempt to burn down the estate. They tore down our gate and began throwing stones at people’s homes. We weren’t able to stop them until the police and the army arrived.

    “We later found out that they attacked our estate because two of their colleagues were killed by a motorist who fled to our estate for safety after being chased by large stones and other dangerous weapons.

    Breaking: ‘Over 20 Killed’ In Port Harcourt Church Stampede

    An early morning stampede at a new generation church in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, is thought to have killed at least 21 people.

    The incident occurred during the fourth edition of the church’s gift and food distribution, according to a witness.
    According to the witness, some of the invitees had been arriving since Friday, while others had arrived as early as 6.30 a.m. for an event that was scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.

    According to the witness, some people who were supposed to be at a sports session arrived around 8 a.m. and opened the small gate, allowing the surging crowd to push their way in, resulting in the stampede.
    “This morning, there was an incident. The fourth edition of the church’s food and gift distribution was open to the public. Some arrived on Friday, while others arrived as early as 6.30 a.m. on Saturday.
    “Those engaged in sporting activities opened the small gate, and the stampeding crowd tried to gain access through the small gate.” He said, “I counted about 21 one dead bodies on the ground.”

    Many victims, he said, had been taken to an undisclosed Port Harcourt hospital.

    Iringe Grace Koko, the Public Relations Officer for the Rivers State Police Command, said she was on her way to the scene of the incident to get accurate information when contacted.

    ‘Drug trafficking’ puts Abba Kyari’s life in jeopardy, begs for bail

    DCP Abba Kyari, the embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police, pleaded with the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday to be released on bail, claiming that his life was in danger. Kyari is currently in front of Justice Emeka Nwite on a drug trafficking charge.

    The suspended supercop entered the plea through his team of lawyers, led by Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN, at the resumption trial.

    Kyari told the court that he felt unsafe at the Kuje Correctional Center, where he was living with hardened criminals at the time.

    During his motion for reconsideration of his client’s application, Ikpeazu pleaded with the court to consider the new application while the charge against him is resolved.

    He went on to say that his plea was necessary because of the nature of the assignments he (Kyari) was assigned while performing his duties as a police officer.

    The defense lawyer went on to say that some of the inmates on remand at the Kuje Correctional Center were people who were apprehended thanks to Kyari’s team at the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT).

    He also pleaded with the court to allow the release on bail of three other police officers, ACP Sunday J. Ubia, Insp. Simon Agirigba, and Insp. John Nuhu, who are all on trial for the same alleged crime.

    However, the third defendant in the case, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Bawa James, did not join them in filing the application.

    In response, Mr. Sunday Joseph, counsel for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), urged the court to deny the defendants’ bail request.

    The matter was originally scheduled for a review of the facts of the case involving two self-confessed drug traffickers, Chibunna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwane, who were linked to the suspended DCP, Kyari, Joseph insisted.

    Both Umeibe and Ezenwanne were arrested at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu while attempting to smuggle cocaine into the country. They were cited as the 6th and 7th Defendants in the charge marked FHC/ABJ/57/2022.

    Recall that they, along with Kyari, pleaded guilty to drug trafficking during their arraignment on March 7.

    Kyari had argued that reviewing the facts of the case or sentencing Umeibe and Ezenwanne while his trial was still ongoing would be prejudicial to him.

    He also drew the court’s attention to the fact that both Umeibe and Ezenwanne were mentioned in some counts in the charge against him and the other accused cops.

    The court had previously ruled on Kyari’s objections, with the Judge stating that the facts of the case against Umeibe and Ezenwanne would be reviewed.

    Kyari and his police co-defendants stated at the resumption of the proceedings that they have appealed the ruling to the Court of Appeal.

    They also asked the court to temporarily halt the trial while they await the outcome of the appeal, an application that the prosecution opposed, accusing the defendants of attempting to delay the trial in a criminal case. The case has been postponed until June 14 to allow the defendants to file a new bail application.
