Rising Insecurity: Time For President Bola Tinubu To Appoint Maj Gen Samuel Adebayo (Rtd) As The Nation’s Anti- Terrorism Chief.

    By Efosa Idehen.

With the security situation in the land worsening on a daily basis as bandits, terrorists, kidnappers, separatists, militants and assorted criminals enjoy a field day at the expense of innocent citizens and their properties, the defining moment has come for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to appoint a top anti-terrorism chief to oversee the ongoing war on insurgency in order to root the criminal and terrorist elements from our land once and for all.

To the question, who might likely be appointed as the top anti-terrorism czar, the hallowed name that readily comes to mind is Major-General Samuel Adebayo (rtd), erstwhile Chief of Defence lntelligence (CDI) and Head of the Defence lntelligence Agency (DIA), whose gloried tenure from 2022-2024 witnessed the drastic decimation of criminal networks and successive neutralisation of their dastardly perpetrators while making large swaths of the nation safe again for peaceful abode and commercial enterprise.

Utilizing his vast store of knowledge, invaluable experience and technical expertise to bear, an intrepid Major-General Adebayo deployed a vast array of modern technological tools of intelligence gathering, processing and application which greatly assisted in the destruction of Boko Haram terrorist cells and hideouts as well as numerous armed bandit camps in the North West and North Central parts of the country.

The former CDI’s methodical, tactical and strategic approach to counter-insurgency operations was the stuff of legend and is deeply admired and emulated both within and outside the nation’s shores.

The tenacious DIA supremo strenuously gathered critical intel, data and crucial info on the subject matter and diligently ensured that they were accurate to the letter before taking surgical action in order to minimize collateral damage to innocent residents.

However those who were culpable or allied to criminal perpetrators always bore the full brunt of Major General Adebayo’s counter-terrorist response, no more no less.

Major-General Samuel Adebayo was tough, dedicated, ruthless and utterly uncompromising supremo in the war against terrorism, armed banditry, separatism, kidnapping, militancy and all other anti-social crimes that threatened the peace, unity, stability and tranquility of his beloved nation.

Earlier in his career as a trailblazing Chief of Staff at the Nigerian Corps of Military Intelligence (NAIC), later Director of Military Intelligence, then Chief of Military Intelligence, Nigerian Army and Director of Operations of the Defence lntelligence Agency before his top appointment as DIA boss, Major-General Adebayo was creative, resourceful, energetic and proactive in the rapid dismantling of terrorist networks and their fellow travellers.

During his glorious tenure, Major General Adebayo repositioned and recalibrated the DIA in order to more credibly deliver on its onerous mandate to provide an efficient system of obtaining military intelligence for the Nigerian Armed Forces and Ministry of Defence, promote Nigeria’s Defence Policy, enhance military cooperation with other countries, protect the lives of Nigerian citizens, and maintain the territorial integrity of Nigeria.

The policy reforms he put in place majorly succeeded because Major General Adebayo ensured that all and sundry in the DIA fully understood and wholeheartedly subscribed to the agency’s inalienable mission which is tied to the indivisibility, indestructibility and indissolubility of the Nigerian nation.

Apart from policy decisions, the DIA helmsman also invested in the welfare and well-being of the Agency’s staff in order to further boost their overall morale and productivity

As far as a patriotic Major-General Adebayo was concerned, Nigeria’s existence as a corporate entity is settled and not open for negotiation QED.

Having set terrorists, bandits, kidnappers and other assorted criminal cohorts on the run, scattered and seriously depleted, the DIA supremo continued to soldier on, ridding his beloved nation of terrorist deviants and their acolytes wherever they may be ensconced.

This was indeed the undiluted vision and untramelled mission of the tough, resolute, courage and utterly uncompromising Major General Samuel Adebayo which was summarised thus: No Retreat, No Surrender Until Total Victory is Achieved.

With the outstandingly courageous and overwhelmingly forward looking profile, resume and distinguished track record of the former defence intelligence boss, it is of no surprise that the clarion call is mounting across the nation for the urgent appointment of Major-General Samuel Adebayo by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the nation’s top anti-terrorism chief in order to restore security, peace, stability and tranquillity nationwide.

The indomitable and indefatigable Major General Samuel Adebayo has done it before and he can do it again. Let us make hay while the sun shines. There is no further time to waste.

This move aims to ensure public safety, preserve infrastructure, and enforce traffic regulations.

Investigator news reports that over 10 heavy-duty trucks were impounded during the initial operation over the weekend.

Honourable Sola Giwa, Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, announced the enforcement operation, stating that it follows a period of stakeholder engagement and public sensitization.

“The Third Mainland Bridge is categorically excluded from the list of permissible routes for some articulated vehicles.”

“This restriction is clearly enshrined in the law, and non-compliance will be met with decisive sanctions. Officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) have begun a full-scale enforcement operation, and defaulters will be apprehended and penalized without exemption,” he asserted.

He stated that despite previous warnings, some operators have continued to flout the directives, endangering lives and the bridge’s structural integrity stating that articulated vehicles above 9 tonnes are prohibited from traversing the Third Mainland Bridge.”

“The deployment of these technologically advanced monitoring tools is a critical component of the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration’s broader strategy to entrench road safety, prevent structural fatigue, and engender responsible driving behaviour—particularly on high-risk corridors such as this bridge,”

“Pursuant to prevailing traffic statutes and regulatory frameworks promulgated by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, the movement of articulated trucks and similar heavy vehicular platforms across select bridges—especially during peak operational hours—remains expressly prohibited. This policy is aimed at averting structural overstrain, minimizing accident potential, and alleviating traffic bottlenecks.”he noted

According to Giwa, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) is leading the enforcement operation as high definition speed enforcement cameras have been deployed to monitor vehicular compliance.

He issued a stern admonition to stakeholders within the logistics and freight sectors including fleet operators and articulated vehicle owners to comply unequivocally with the designated traffic matrix and legally prescribed operational corridors. He warned that any continued infraction, whether by ignorance or wilful defiance, will attract the full weight of legal reprisal.

“The period of indulgence is over. Ample sensitization has been undertaken, and as the regulatory position is unambiguous.

“Any truck operator found flouting the prohibition will have their vehicle impounded immediately, and appropriate sanctions will be enforced in line with the law,” he declared.

Giwa opined that the enforcement initiative is part of the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration’s broader strategy to promote road safety and responsible driving behaviour.

Investigator news gathered that the Lagos State Government urges stakeholders within the logistics and freight sectors to comply with the designated traffic matrix and legally prescribed operational corridors as this initiative is part of the State’s comprehensive traffic reform agenda, encapsulated within the THEMES+ policy architecture

  • Community-Led Response to National Threat: An Enhanced Paradigm for National Security.

Community-Led Response to National Threat: An Enhanced Paradigm for National Security.

    Emmanuel Clement

In a nation as diverse and dynamic as Nigeria, the effectiveness of national security cannot solely rest on state institutions, therefore the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, MON,Department of State Services (DSS) is adopting a community-led approach to national security, empowering citizens to become active stakeholders in the fight against crime, extremism, and insecurity.

Investigator news reports that uder Mr. Ajayi’s visionary leadership, the DSS has begun to deepen grassroots engagement by integrating local intelligence networks, enhancing civic trust, and fostering synergy between communities and security agencies.

This paradigm does not merely decentralize security intelligence;rather democratizes it, empowering citizens to become active stakeholders in the fight against crime, extremism, and insecurity.

Ajayi’s renewed approach acknowledges that communities are often the first to sense early warning signs of threats, that is from suspicious activities to potential radicalization.

By establishing structured, yet discreet, feedback and liaison mechanisms with traditional institutions, youth networks, and civil society organizations, the DSS is creating a participatory model that is both proactive and preventative.

This shift complements Ajayi’s broader agenda of refocusing the DSS towards covert intelligence, inter-agency collaboration, and technological innovation.

However, the community-led approach stands out as a deeply human-centric strategy, one that nurtures trust, builds national consciousness, and reclaims vulnerable spaces before they are exploited by hostile elements.

At a time when national threats are increasingly sophisticated, the need for an inclusive security ecosystem has never been more urgent.

Mr. Ajayi’s embrace of community-based vigilance as a cornerstone of national defense signals a transformative era for internal security, where every citizen, from city centers to rural enclaves, plays a part in safeguarding Nigeria’s peace, unity, and sovereignty.
