    Kanayo celebrated his 60th birthday with family and friends

    Kanayo Kanayo, a veteran actor, lawyer, and politician, celebrated his 60th birthday on Sunday, May 29, 2022, at the Muson Centre Onikan in Lagos, attracting many important personalities.

    The actor praised his family and friends for their support throughout the years, thanking God for sparing his life so he could see the event.

    “It is a marriage of law and entertainment,” he stated when asked what his next step will be. One of the reasons I studied law was to be able to combine the two fields of law and entertainment, and I believe I am on the right track. There will be a television series called “The People’s Lawyer” airing in the next month or two. I’m willing to bet that it will keep Nigerians hooked to their televisions for the next five to fifteen years, just like ‘Professor Johnbull (in which he starred) did.

    “There are a lot of lawyers in the country, but not all of them work in the entertainment sector,” she says. Being in the entertainment sector and a lawyer gives me a distinct advantage. I also authored and released ‘The Testator’ in less than a year. It adds to the corpus of knowledge. Nigerians’ reading culture is being revived by us.”

    The actor also used the occasion to establish the ‘Kanayo O Kanayo Foundation.’

    The birthday boy’s two ‘triumphant’ entry, both dressed in all-white clothes, were among the event’s highlights. Kanayo wore a bowler hat in his first ‘appearance,’ while a traditional red cap used by Igboland chiefs in his second appearance.
    In a session moderated by famed comedian Ayo Makun, aka AY, he was later joined on stage by his children to cut the birthday cake.

    NCDC confirms 66 suspected cases of monkeypox, one death

    According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), the country reported 66 suspected cases of monkeypox between January 1st and May 29th, 2022.

    According to the centre, 21 suspected cases have been confirmed in nine states, with Adamawa State leading the way with five, Lagos with four, Cross River with two, the Federal Capital Territory with two, Kano with two, Delta with two, Bayelsa with two, Rivers with two, and Imo with one.

    According to the NCDC, a 40-year-old man died of renal co-morbidity while taking immunosuppressive drugs.

    “The twenty (20) new suspected cases reported in May 2022 came from 11 states: Lagos (5), Bayelsa (2), Adamawa (2), Rivers (2), Niger (2), FCT (2), Delta (1), Oyo (1), Kaduna (1), Edo (1), and Gombe (1),” according to the NCDC.

    When compared to April 2022, the number of cases reported has increased by 100 percent.

    The six (6) new confirmed positive cases (out of the 20 suspected cases) in May 2022 were confirmed in four (4) states: Bayelsa (2), Adamawa (2), Lagos (1), and Rivers (1), according to the Centre (1).

    The National Multisectoral Emergency Operations Centre had been activated at level 2 by the NCDC to continue to coordinate ongoing response activities, according to the NCDC.

    President Muhammadu Buhari has assented to 19 of 131 Bills passed by the Senate in the last three years, It was investigation has revealed.

    The upper chamber, inaugurated on June 11, 2019, will clock three years on June 10. According to a document sighted by our correspondent in Abuja, the Senate introduced 976 Bills from inception till March 23, 2022.
    Of the 976 Bills introduced on the floor of the Senate during the period, about 27 were sponsored by the executive while others were Member’s Bills.
    According to orders 76 (a, b and c) of the Senate Standing Orders 2015 (as amended), there are three classes of Bills namely: Executive Bills, Member’s Bills and Private Bills.
    Apart from 2020, 2021 and 2022 Appropriation Bills, other Bills sponsored by the Executive include the Finance Bill 2019 (Nigeria Tax and Fiscal Law) introduced on November 5, 2019 and passed on November 21, 2019.

    Others are the Nigerian Meteorological Agency Act 2003 (Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill 2019, Nigerian College of Aviation Technology Act Cap N96 LFN 2004 (Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill 2019, Nigerian Airspace Management Agency Act Cap N90 LFN 2004 (Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill 2019, Civil Aviation Act 2006 (Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill 2019, Federal Airports Authority Act Cap F5 LFN 2004 (Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill 2019, and Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (Est. etc) Bill 2019, all of which have been passed.

    The Executive also sponsored the Companies and Allied Matters Act, Cap C20 LFN 2004 (Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill 2019, Finance Act (Amendment) Bill 2020, Petroleum Industry Bill 2020, which was introduced on September 30, 2020, and passed on July 1, 2021, Proceed of Crime Bill 2020, Harmonised Retirement Age for Teachers in Nigeria Bill 2021, Copyright Act Cap C28 LFN 2004 (Amendment) Bill 2021 and the National Metallurgical Training Institute, Onitsha (Est) Bill, 2021.

    Other Executive Bills are the Explosive Act (Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill 2021 and the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons Bill 2021.

    Prominent among Member Bills that have been passed by the Senate are the National Rice Development Council Bill 2019, sponsored by Senator Mohammed Bima Enagi, National Health Insurance Commission Bill 2019 and Mental Health and Substance Abuse Bill 2019 (sponsored respectively by Senator Ibrahim Oloriegbe), Sexual Harassment Bill 2019, sponsored by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Public Procurement Act 2007 (Amendment) Bill 2019, sponsored by Senator Shaibu Isa Lau, and Public Procurement Act 2007 (Amendment) Bill 2019, sponsored by Senator Uche Lilian Ekwunife.
