    The Mayor of Isolo, Olasoju Adebayo, is not relenting in matching words with actions regarding his promise of infrastructural renewal in the council area.

    This is as the ongoing construction work on Shongobiyi Street, off Osolo Way, nears completion. The development is coming on the heels of the commencement of work on Baale and Ibadan Streets in Ilasamaja Ward of the council area.

    Having completed works on the drainage on both sides of the road, the contractor, on Wednesday, performed thorough excavation and grading exercise to advance the construction work.

    Upon completion, the street which connects with the ever-busy Osolo way and Mureni street at either ends will serve as an escape route for road users from the regular traffic hold up at Aiye Bus-Stop.

    A resident who simply identified himself as Tunde hailed the council boss for the developmental efforts thumbing him up for being relentless in his developmental strive.

    “I speak for all the residents on this street and I can tell you that we are all happy about this development. It gladdens our heart. It’s a thing of joy that Sangobiyi streets is getting rehabilitated. We used to feel that the chairman does not plan to construct this road because you will see of all the road in the axis ours is the only one in a not-too-good condition.

    “He did Mureni, Olusola Faronbi, Shonibare, Holy saviour leading to Aderinto, shodehinde and the others. Sangobiyi is the only one that looks odd but we are happy now that our road is being put into better condition. We appreciate him for this development even as we look forward to the speedy completion because of rain,” he said.

    A motorist, Kazeem Alao, has this to say; “This is a great development because I won’t have to go through Aiye before connecting with Osolo Way, this road will be another option for me if I enter through mureni, I can now pass Sangobiyi or Olusola Faronbi or Shonibare.”

    He went on to appeal to the chairman to see to the removal of gates at the entrance and exit of the street for seamless access for motorists

    Amidst heartwarming cheers and commendations from stakeholders, residents and traders in Ilasamaja Ward, the indefatigable council chairman, Olasoju Adebayo, today, flagged off the construction of Baale and Ibadan Streets.

    The project is being undertaken by the council authority as one of the “114 LG Roads” promptings of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration among local governments and local council development areas in the state.

    In his remarks, Olasoju impressed it on his audience that, upon completion, the project will take the tally of undertaken road projects by his administration to 36 assuring that he would rather continue his even distribution of developmental strides among the subsisting wards than rest on his oars.

    Highlighting the features of the road, Olasoju explained that it will be interlocked using one of world’s best paving stones – HFP with drainage channels on both sides as well street light for illumination at night.

    Meanwhile, the council boss requested for the observation of a minute silence in honour of the late Osolo Of Isolo, Oba Kabiru Alani Agbabiaka whom he said would have been happy to be part of the occasion given his penchant for development across the communities particularly in Ilasa.

    “Today’s groundbreaking exercise and the onward construction of this road is in furtherance of our administration’s commitment to leaving no area out of our development stride and my humble appeal to residents especially those on this street to give the contractor the needed support while the construction lasts stating “The project will be delivered on time to avoid weather disruption and it is my expectation that the community will take ownership of it upon completion,” Olasoju said.

    On his part the Baale of Ilasamaja, High Chief Fatai Alani Abereijo showered encomium on the council boss for making Ilasamaja the destination of after a long wait. He assured of continued cooperation with the contractor and proper maintenance of the road when delivered.

    The ward councillor, Hon. Akeem Adeyemi (Alarape) as well as the Chairman of the community development committee (CDC), Hon. Adesegun Olatunde among others were unsparing with words of commendation for the council chairman.

    The contractor and CEO of Jidsma Nigeria Limited, Alhaji Jide Oni assured that the road will be delivered within the stipulated time assuring that, if properly maintained, it will stand the test of time.

    Highlight of the event was the groundbreaking ceremony which the council boss performed with Baale Aberejo, CDC chairman, Council Manager and other flanking him.

    Lagos Government Mourns As Gov Sanwo-Olu’s looses Aide

    It was a black Wednesday as the death of the deputy chief of staff,Mr Goboyega Soyannwo to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State came to the staff of government house as a shock as they could not hide their expression when the chief of staff,Tayo Ayinde broke the news to the governor.

    Soyannwo died on Wednesday at the age of 55, after a brief illness at a hospital where the former Deputy Chief of Staff was rushed to after he slumped

    The death was officially announced in a statement by the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso.

    The statement reads, “With deep sorrow, the Lagos State Government announces the passing of the Deputy Chief of Staff (DCoS) to Mr Governor, Mr Gboyega Soyannwo

    “Mr. Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on behalf of the Government and people of Lagos, sends his condolences to the Soyannwo family.

    “After a minute’s silence in respect of the late DCoS, Mr. Governor ended the EXCO meeting.

    It will be recalled that Soyanwo, who celebrated his 55th birthday last October,has been with the governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, since his first term in 2019

    Goboyega Soyannwo was born on 3rd October 1968 and had his primary education at the Corona School Victoria Island, Lagos from 1974-1980 and his secondary education at the prestigious Kings College, Lagos from 1980-1985.

    He thereafter proceeded to the Federal School of Arts & Science for his A-Levels which he successfully completed in 1987. He thereafter sought and was granted admission into the University of Lagos from where he graduated in 1992 earning a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. Hons.) Degree in Economics.

    Soyannwo also holds an MBA (General Management) from the revered Lagos Business School.

    Soyannwo started his career at the Central Bank of Nigeria in 1992 as a Youth Corp member. He subsequently worked in the following institutions where he served in various capacities: Financial Services Consultants Limited, STACO Insurance Plc., National Bank Of Nigeria Limited (now WEMA Bank Plc). Zenith Bank Plc. and Oceanic Bank International Plc (now Eco Bank Plc.), where he left in December 2009 as the Group Head – Commercial Banking to join the First Class Group Limited as Director, Finance and Strategy.

    The late Gboyega Soyannwo is survived by a wife and two children. May his soul rest in peace.

    United Nations (UN) in Nigeria, led by the Resident Coordinator, Assistant Secretary-General Mohamed Malick Fall has committed to galvanizing the private sector for stronger partnerships and more impactful investments towards acceleration of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

    This is part of the goals of its partnership with the Sterling One Foundation geared towards building more effective multi-sectoral partnerships on impact investments in critical sectors through the Africa Social Impact Summit (ASIS).

    It will be recalled that last year, the UN and Sterling One Foundation co-convened the Summit with the support of various stakeholders working towards sustainable development. Since then, the UN Country Team (UNCT) has focused on using the platform to emphasize the role of partnerships in driving SDGs towards agenda 2030.

    Mr. Mohamed Fall went further to described such partnerships as important in galvanizing coordinated social impact support by the private sector, which is essential for rescuing the SDGs in Nigeria.

    “What the UN System offers to such partnerships is coordinated and complimentary efforts to assist the most vulnerable households and ensure no one is left behind,”he added.

    Sharing her thoughts on what to expect from a second year of co-convening with the UN, Mrs. Olapeju Ibekwe, CEO of Sterling One Foundation highlighted the huge opportunities for including more sectors and investors in this year ‘s summit.

    “What we hope to achieve this year is to build on the momentum we have gained from two years by engaging decision-makers from the private sector and other key sectors to move from commitments to action, as shown in the design of this year’s edition,” she said.

    In addition to panel sessions on key issues ASIS 2024 will feature more sector-specific workshops focusing on SDG progress and solutions for acceleration.

    Highly-rated, independent investment advisory firms have picked Fidelity Bank as a very attractive stock with potential to generate high returns for investors.

    Independent investment research reports by many market pundits reviewed at the weekend showed that Fidelity Bank was assigned “buy” ticker, a recommendation to investors to consider the potential attractive returns of the bank.

    The research reports were based on the historical and current operational performances of the bank as well as the clear-sighted implementation of the bank’s growth plan. The reports also considered the quality of board and management and the general human capital and resources of the bank.

    The investment advisory reports included those of Afrinvest Group, FSDH Capital and Cardinal Stone among others.

    Analysts were unanimous that Fidelity Bank’s share price could double in the period ahead given professional assessment of top traditional performance parameters including the company’s operational reports, investors’ preference and projections.

    Cardinal Stone stated that Fidelity Bank’s share price could double citing the bank’s “robust earnings growth” and the increasing profitability of its core banking operations.

    After an extensive review of the global and domestic stock markets, FSDH Capital selected Fidelity Bank as one of the “FSDH Top Picks”, a group of stocks that the investment advisory firm considered to be most attractive for discerning investors. FSDH Capital’s stock selection considered a stock’s pricing history, dividend history, fundamental values and peer ratios among others.

    Providing background on analysts’ exhaustive research for stock selection, Afrinvest explained that the company’s fair value estimate “takes into account a weighted average of price estimates derived from a blend of valuation methodologies including the Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) and its variants as well as other relative and comparable trading multiples valuation models”.

    “However, we attach the most weight to DCF valuation methodology, particularly the Dividend Discount Model (DDM), Free Cash Flow (FCF) model and Residual Income Valuation/Model (RIV/RIM). The utilization of comparable trading multiples is guided by the analysts’ understanding of the banks’ fundamentals, as well as key price drivers from the firm, industry and macroeconomic perspectives,” Afrinvest stated.

    The “buy” rating, according to analysts, implies that “the expected total return over the next 12 months is 25 per cent or more. Investors are advised to take positions at the prevailing market price as at the report date”.

    Afrinvest projected that Fidelity Bank, with a dividend yield of 9.3 per cent, has price upside potential of more than 35 per cent. This effectively makes the stock an inflation-hedging stock, implying that investors in the bank’s shares can retain money value despite the current inflationary environment.

    Futureview Group said Fidelity Bank’s recent operational reports highlighted the bank’s “excellent operational performance and the breadth of its income sources”.

    The audited report and accounts of Fidelity Bank for the year ended December 31, 2023 had shown that gross earnings rose by 65 per cent to N555.83 billion. The top-line performance was driven by significant growths across income lines including 55 per cent growth in interest income, 562 per cent increase in other operating income and 44 per cent growth in fee and commission income.

    The bottom-line fared better with net profit after tax rising by 99 per cent to N99.46 billion in 2023. Earnings per share (EPS) thus jumped by 93 per cent to N3.11, providing a strong buffer for the bank to increase dividend payout without undermining its sustainability.

    Interim report and account of the bank for the first quarter ended March 31, 2024 also showed that the bank started the current business year on stronger footing with three-digit growths across key performance indicators.

    The three-month report, released at the Nigerian Exchange (NGX), showed that gross earnings increased by 89.9 per cent to N192.1 billion in first quarter 2024. The bank’s top-line performance continued to be driven by broad-based growths across income lines with interest income rising by 90.7 per cent and non-interest income growing by 84 per cent in first quarter 2024.

    Growth in interest income was primarily spurred by a higher yield environment and strong earning assets base, while the increase in non-interest income was led by double-digit growth in account maintenance charges, foreign exchange (forex)-related income, trade, banking services, and remittances, supported by increased customer transactions.

    Profit before tax doubled by 120 per cent to N39.5 billion in first quarter 2024 as against N17.9 billion in first quarter 2023. The bank’s performance was driven by expanding market share with total deposit rising by 17 per cent within the three months to N4.7 trillion, compared with N4 trillion recorded at the end of 2023. The bank also increased its supports for national economic growth with net loans and advances rising by 21 per cent from N3.1 trillion at the end of 2023 to N3.7 trillion by March 2024.

    The much-anticipated 10th edition of the annual Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) came with outstanding surprises ‘Breath of Life’ was the biggest winner of the night, clinching six categories including ‘Best Lead Actor’, ‘Best Supporting Actor’, ‘Best Supporting Actress’, ‘Best Director’, ‘Best Sound Design’ and ‘Best Movie’.

    The annual event, which saw the African film and television industry come together to honour outstanding talents and creativity in the industry. From gripping performances to captivating storytelling, took place on Saturday night at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos,as Wale Ojo, Kehinde Bankole, Layi Wasabi, and Demola Adedoyin were among the winners at the 2024 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA).

    Bankole defeated Funke Akindele and Ireti Doyle to clinch the ‘Best Lead Actress’ category,Ojo won the ‘Best Lead Actor’ category while Demola snagged the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ award for their roles in ‘Breath of Life’ respectively.

    The award ceremony was hosted by ace presenter IK Osakioduwa, with notable industry personalities including Joke Silva, Sola Sobowale, Chidi Mokeme, Richard Mofe Damijo, Genevieve Nnaji, Ramsey Noah, Kunle Afolayan, Mo Abudu, Odunlade Adekola, Kanayo O Kanyo and a host of others in attendance, which featured captivating performances from music stars such as Adekunle Gold, Chike, Seyi Sodimu, and Shaffy Bello.

    In the same vein, Nollywood Actress Funke Akindele has reacted to the outcome of the just concluded African Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) were her film “A Tribe Called Judah” missed out on all nominations.
    Akindele’s reaction came in the form of a cryptic post on her Instagram story—a dark, blank page, possibly reflecting her disappointment with the loss,despite being nominated in three categories—Best Movie, Best Lead Actress, and Best Makeup Artist—the movie fell short, with Kehinde Bankole clinching the Best Lead Actress award for “Adire” and “Breath of Life” securing the Best Movie title.

    In a bid to unearth and nurture grassroots sports talents, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Lagos State on Grassroots Sports Development, Hon Adebanji Atewogboye SKIBANJ, has embarked on a comprehensive talents identification program across the state.

    The initiative which is aimed at discovering and developing young athletes, has seen Hon Atewogboye and his team traverse the length and breadth of Lagos, scouring local communities, schools, and sports clubs for raw talents.

    According to SKIBANJ as he is fondly called, “Our goal is to create a platform for young Lagosians to showcase their sporting prowess and provide them with the necessary support and resources to excel at the state, national, and international levels.”

    “The talents identification program has already yielded impressive results, with several promising young athletes identified in various sports disciplines, including track and field, football, basketball, and tennis.”

    “The Lagos State Government has pledged its full support for the program, committing resources to ensure the success of this grassroots sports development initiative.”he stated.

    Hon Atewogboye went further to expressed optimism that this initiative would not only help to develop the state’s sports sector but also provide a positive outlet for youths, thereby fostering a sense of purpose and community engagement

    It will be recalled that as the search for talents continues,the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor remains committed to leaving no stone unturned in his quest to empower the next generation of sports stars from Lagos State.
