    The Association of Tourism Practitioners of Nigeria (ATPN) South West Region has applauded the Ogun State Government on the opening ceremony of the National Sports Festival 2025 which commenced on Friday 16,May 2025, describing it as a significant milestone in promoting sports tourism in Nigeria.

    In a press release signed and made available to Investigator news by the Vice President,Association of Tourism Practitioners of Nigeria (ATPN) South South West Region,Hon Apata Samson Nunayon, stated that the association recognize the immense potential of sports tourism in driving economic growth,cultural exchange, and national pride.

    According to the Vice President,”Sports events like this festival have the power to attract visitors, create jobs, and stimulate local economies, making them a valuable addition to our tourism product offerings.”

    He went further to state that the South West region is known for its rich cultural heritage, stunning natural beauty, and world-class infrastructure, which is perfectly positioned to capitalize on the growing demand for sports tourism.

    “This momentous occasion marks a significant milestone in promoting sports tourism in Nigeria, and we are glad to see our region take center stage.”

    “As we gather to celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie, we at ATPN South West Region recognize the immense potential of sports tourism in driving economic growth, cultural exchange, and national pride.”

    ” We believe that events like the National Sports Festival can serve as a catalyst for tourism development, showcasing our region’s unique attractions and experiences to a wider audience.”he said.

    Hon Apata urge the athletes, spectators, stakeholders and investors to use the opportunity to experience the warmth and hospitality and to encourage them to explore business opportunities in the South West region.

    He commended the Ogun State governor,Prince Dapo Abiodun for his visionary leadership and commitment to promoting tourism development in the state.

    Also appreciating the Ministry of Tourism under the leadership of Hon.Dr.Sesan Fagbayi, Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, for his unwavering passion for the growth of tourism in Ogun State.

    He opined that his open-door policy and collaborative approach have fostered a strong working relationship with stakeholders, particularly the ATPN South West Region.

    “We appreciate his commitment to promoting tourism development and look forward to continued partnership.”

    ATPN South West Region Explores Collaborative Opportunities With Ministry Of Culture And Tourism, Ogun State.

    In a bid to unlock the South West region’s rich cultural heritage and natural attractions,the Association of Tourism Practitioners of Nigeria (ATPN)led by its Vice President Hon.Apata Samson Nunayon, has taken a significant strides in strengthening partnerships with key stakeholders in Ogun State’s tourism sector.

    Investigator news reports that the association which is a professional organization dedicated to promoting tourism development and economic growth in Nigeria is committed to promote the rich culture in South West.

    In his speech, the Vice president,Hon Apata stated that the essence of their visit was to collaborate with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism so as to promote tourism development in Ogun State, leveraging the state’s rich cultural heritage and natural attractions.

    He went further to state that the association would used the opportunity to create and activate the Ogun State Chapter of ATPN which will be announced later this month, stating that with the inauguration of the pioneer Executives, ATPN South West Region and the Ogun State Ministry of Culture and Tourism can drive tourism development and economic growth in the state, while promoting the region’s rich cultural heritage and natural attractions.

    Responding the Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Ogun State,Hon (Dr)Sesan Fagbayi thanked the association for the visit and assured them of his Ministry’s commitment and that of the State government in promoting culture and tourism in the state.

    Dr Fagbayi pointed out the Ministry’s policy thrust which includes creating viable platforms for public-private engagement, aligning with ATPN’s goals marked a crucial step towards fostering collaboration and driving tourism development in the state.

    In another development, the Ogun State Government has temporarily closed the Olumo Rock Tourist Complex for renovation and a facelift, effective from April 14, 2025.

    Investigator news gathered that the complex, which receives over 70,000 visitors annually, may likely to be reopened on May 16th, coinciding with the opening ceremony of the National Sports Festival to be hosted by the Ogun State government.

    This major event is anticipated to draw large crowds, and the renovated complex will be a key attraction and with the new the partnership with ATPN which is aimed to unlock Ogun State’s tourism potential, create jobs, and attract investment, ultimately positioning the state as a national and global tourism powerhouse, Ogun State would become a home of attraction for cultural heritage.

    As ATPN South West Region’s mission is to promote tourism development and economic growth in the region, while showcasing the rich cultural heritage and natural attractions of Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti, and Lagos States.

    Honourable Funso Jide Adekunle ,the Ogun East Senatorial Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP)has congratulated the Awujale and Paramount ruler of Ijebuland, His Royal Majesty, Oba Sikiru kayode Adetona GCON (Ọgbagba II), on his 90th birthday and 64 years on the throne of his forefathers.

    Hon Adekunle in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media Comrade Ikpeama Emmanuel,described Oba Adetona as an advocate of justice,one who sees all Ijebu sons and daughters as his children,and in the moments of adversity,has never turned his eyes away,as he has tried on several occasions to reconcile politicians in deep conflicts without taking sides.

    He went further to state Oba Adetona is a visionary and passionate leader who is committed to the growth and development of Ijebuband, the Ijebu sons and daughters at home and in the diaspora as well as Nigeria as a whole.
    According to Hon Fushi,”At 90, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, Ogbagba.

    Agbotemole, the Awujale of Ijebu land, is among the oldest traditional rulers, not only in Yoruba land but also in the entire country. He is also one of the longest-reigning monarchs held in high esteem beyond the chores of Nigeria.”

    “Ijebu-Ode has grown in leaps and bounds under his reign. Its population has increased geometrically,the town is now proud of more industries and other commercial ventures, tertiary institutions, hospitals, five-star hotels, and numerous housing estates.”

    “His reign exemplifies how a traditional leader should conduct himself and how to treat others, whether they are his subjects or not,his respectable demeanor towards others and his humility and personal integrity are special qualities to be emulated”he submitted.

    The Former House Of Assembly Candidate in the last general election opined that Awujale has promoted inclusion as the personification of Ijebu unity by rallying sons and daughters from all Ijebu towns and villages to see themselves as one, while congratulating the Awujale on his dual celebration.

    The Senatorial Chairman of New Nigeria Peoples Party,Ogun East Senatorial District,Hon Funso Jide Adekunle has felicitated with the Muslim Ummah in the state as they join other faithfuls the world over in celebrating the Eid el-fitr which marks the successful completion of the Ramadan fast.

    In a goodwill message signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Comrade Emmanuel lkpeama, the Senatorial Chairman urged the Ummah to sustain the lessons of the holy month and replicate them in their daily lives for the good of the society.

    He tasked the citizenry not to loose sight in face of the current socio-economic and security challenges bedeviling the country but to remain resolute and prayerful with faith that the nation’s trying moment will be over and Nigeria will emerge stronger and more united, noting that Eid-El-Fitr marks the completion of a holy month dedicated to devotion and reflection when families and communities come together to celebrate their blessings.

    The statement reads:”As Muslims in Ogun State and Nigeria in general conclude the month of Ramadan and celebrate Eid al-Fitr, I would like to extend my warmest wishes to all who are celebrating this joyous occasion.”

    “Eid marks the completion of a holy month dedicated to devotion and reflection when families and communities come together to celebrate their blessings.”

    Hon Funso opined that he is always in awe of the immense generosity displayed by the Muslim community during Ramadan, while urging them to allow that spirit to continues for Eid as we remember all those who are struggling or impacted by poverty, hunger, conflict, and disease, and recommit to building a better future for all, stating that the Muslim community is an integral part of religious society in Nigeria and their contributions have been immense.
